Plot had some major holes in it, and the dialogue and expressions of all involved were bereft of any substance. At times the background music was so loud you could not make sense of what was said on screen.... Could have been so much more than it ended up being.

Just a Ghost Story
nogodnomasters20 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
James Lincoln (Jonathan McClean) is a supernatural reporter who writes about unexplained events from UFOs to ghosts. He records the stories of folks whom he does not believe. He is tipped off about the "Thirty" an event that happens at the same village of Herg every 30 years. Someone disappears every 30 years and the anniversary is this weekend, go place to go and take you pregnant girlfriend (Anna Dawson). Needless to say, someone disappears and we get a mish-mash explanation of events and the characters involved which includes flashbacks of unknown significance.
It was just a bad script with bad direction and effects.
Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

better than worst horrors

Although this horror movie is so bad that it does not need explanation why, it is definitely not the worst. Unexplained, unfinished, fake, no effects, low quality, bad actors. Through association it becomes better, for example main character reminded me of myself by look, age, behavior, his searching looked similar to real life searching, being worried, asking for help. Also characters look serious and behave real enough except towards end. Although location looks ideal for horror, lack of more people, events, places makes it look so fake. Overally, bad, fake, boring.
Waste of time

I've seen more emotional range in an ironing board
aelthric6 November 2019
Seriously this film deserves the same degree of apathy from viewers as displayed by the lack lustre cast with all the emotional range of a blancmange and rather less emotional range than an ironing board.
The story is ludicrous and unbelievable, and if you are after action, scares or anything other than monotonous meandering by someone whose pregnant girlfriend is supposed to be mysteriously missing then don't bother with this.

Warning: Spoilers
A journalist desperately tries to find his missing fiancee and finally uncover the truth behind some sinister folklore finds himself on a dangerous road of discovery. The PR for this said that it's in the tradition of Midsommar, but I promise not to try and hate this movie because of that.
Sean Brown and Luke Gosling worked together on the short Athena before this, their first full-length film.
Writer James Lincoln is sick of covering local stories of UFOs and ghosts. He feels like it's a waste of his time and that he's meant for bigger things. He soon learns of something called the Thirty, where someone has disappeared from a small town every year for the last twenty-nine years. So he does what none of us would do. He takes his pregnant fiancee to that town and of course, she gets taken.
This eventually turns into the kind of movie that I usually complain about. You know it, too. It's when the characters all wander the woods and yell the missing person's name over and over again.

Good Old Fashioned Rural Village Fun!

I did not expect much at all from this film. I gave it a go because the synopsis mentioned 'folklore', of which I can never get enough. I was unbelievably surprised and pleased to find that it was a well done film in the vein of The Wicker Man and Straw Dogs. I had never heard of or seen any of the actors, but for an indie film(which I prefer to more mainstream movies), it was super fun. It's not a movie that will be to everyone's taste. But if you love rural English villages oozing with folklore and strange happenings, see it on a dark and stormy night with popcorn and a friend!
My Review Of "Blood Myth"
ASouthernHorrorFan31 October 2019
The story has a creepy cool set-up. A rural folklore with hints of occult practices. I only hope that there is a legitimate legend it is based on. Then, maybe something of substance is available to prop this film up. It has a great concept, it just needed to be fleshed out more and amped up a little. It moves a bit too slow and the thrills are non-existent.
The acting is superb. The characters have depth, they feel real and relatable. They just play out with an air of melancholy. The beginning starts off interesting, it sets up a cool premise that is intriguing. Unfortunately once the story gets going it looses energy and gets a bit boring. The last 35 minutes pick up and acting gets dark and chilling, but by then it all seems a bit "too little too late".
"Blood Myth" has some cool atmosphere that permeates the whole movie. What little horror is present is done well. The music score and lighting is proper. The only downside is the lack of energy or build up to more thrilling events. Plus there is a brilliant, witchy component that seems to brushed over. A real missed opportunity. And I am not a hundred percent sure if I really understood the ending.
Overall "Blood Myth" will have some fans. British folk horror inherently feels elevated and this film has some of that going for it. Still it does quite reach intended expectations. There is big chunk of movie that seems to be aimless and just eats up time and very little actual horror. Still, given the subject matter and quality of the acting, check it out.

Creepy Rural Chiller

Blood Myth was a refreshing horror movie to watch in an age of jump scares and gore. The story is slowly paced but expertly unravels, building creepy tension and a dread filled atmosphere which pulls you in.
The acting is great and in the tradition of American Werewolf and Wicker Man, there are some genuinely creepy locals in the village the film takes place. The lead is very good at portraying an everyman character and everything he does makes sense unlike some horror films where the protagonist does stupid things and walks into danger.
If you like slow-burn horror/thrillers then you will appreciate Blood Myth. The story builds towards a great twist (don't watch the trailers - it will spoil it) and I was very satisfied with the payoff. Like all great mysteries, it doesn't give you all the answers and leaves you wanting to know more.

A Thrilling Horror

A good creepy dark thriller with some nice horror moments. Suspenseful mystery story with a great twist. Shot really well and with solid performances for a low budget indie. Strong set up, slow burn middle and a satisfying payoff.
