A fun bit of political nonsense from the Clinton era.
28 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's always fun to see who will show up as a fictional president and first lady, let alone a real life president, and here you get two legends as former presidents and another legend as a former first lady. Jack Lemmon and James Garner are excellent as two former one term presidents who hated each other (Garner a perfect president, better cast than Walter Matthau who would have not been so believable), now on the run together when they discover that the current president Dan Ackroyd, Lemmon's former VP) has framed Lemmon for corruption that he was responsible for. Lauren Bacall is very glamorous as Lemmon's wisecracking wife who proves that she's as able to deal with political nonsense as the old boy's club.

This is a very enjoyable if flawed comedy that shows how the two parties can and should come together to fight corruption, putting Garner and Lemmon in some very amusing situations. Conchetta Farrell is fun as always as a deadpan truck driver, and Michael Peña very sweet as an illegal immigrant who is very touched by a generous act that Lemmon makes. Esther Rolle, Wilford Brimley, Sela Ward and James Rebhorn are good in other supporting parts. A scene with the two presidents ending up in a gay pride parade is very funny. There are moments that are very touching as well as humorous, such as when the two men encounter a homeless family. Maybe not "Grumpy Old Men" or even "Out to Sea", but worth seeing.
