As an ambassador in Prague, Karla Lorenz supports a German-Czech prestige project on artificial intelligence in the medical sector. The experienced diplomat should ensure that Germany can take on the second phase of the project as planned. During the presentation at the Future Campus in Prague, which was also well prepared for the press by the Czech State Secretary Zdenek, Karla learns that there are serious problems on the Czech side and that the project is about to end. The public prosecutor's office is investigating fraud and their contact person, the charismatic ministerial official Stokr, is also under serious suspicion: He is said to have committed an accident with a hit-and-run, presumably drunk. The victim is the son of a police officer. For Commissioner Horava there is no doubt about Stokr's guilt, as there are incriminating signs of accidents on his off-road vehicle. However, the officer has an alibi: Karla Lorenz had a business meeting with him on the evening of the accident. If that goes on record, Horava will have to stop his investigation into Stokr. For Karla one thing is certain - even if she might endanger the project, she was not wrong, although everything speaks against Stokr. Steadfast at her side - Jannik Schümann as Nikolaus Tanz, who, together with Karla, finds the surprising truth .

A man with his six-year-old daughter from St. Petersburg who fears for his life lands at BER Airport: the German-Russian journalist Kolja Petrow, a childhood friend of Karla Lorenz. Instead of the diplomat, who knows nothing about his visit, a Russian secret service team awaits him and little Manja. Before the kidnappers catch him, Kolja disappears a data stick and hides Manja in a rental car. When the police discovered the girl shortly afterwards, there was no trace of the kidnapped man. However, a phone number that Kolja wrote on Manja's arm leads to Karla. She is surprised to hear from him after a long radio silence, but takes his daughter into her home. While her boyfriend Jan takes care of the girl, Karla supports the crisis team, including the BND officer Weimer. It is found that Kolja is being held at the Russian embassy. When State Secretary Wagner put pressure on foreign policy, the Russian state media sent a surprising explanation: Petrov is said to have fled because he murdered his wife in St. Petersburg. Karla, who has known the suspect since childhood, thinks this is an excuse. In fact, he had evidence of Russian influence by their secret services on important political elections in Germany, which are supposed to be covered up .

Rome, the Eternal City. The diplomat Karla Lorenz is looking forward to her new place of work. As soon as she is on duty, the ambassador has to put protocol aside after an attack on an occupied theater: the young Ines, daughter of the building contractor Robert Felting, who works in Italy, and Karla's employee Nikolaus Tanz are in the hands of activist hostage-takers. The previously unknown group is demanding compensation for the victims of a house collapse for which they blame Robert Felting. Karla doesn't want to rely on the Roman chief investigator Motte, nor on the right-wing populist minister Romagnoli, who wants to make a name for himself at the expense of the supposed left-wing extremists. With the support of her life partner Jan, the ambassador investigates herself. She puts her hope in Ines' mother Sabine, of all people, who is supposed to obtain a missing report that may incriminate her husband.
