An absolute must watch!

Breathtaking footage, some never seen before shots, along with funny moments of incredible animal interactions. The desert scene scapes are incredibly humbling and it was pure joy to watch this episode. My absolute favourite so far. I really enjoy the last ten minutes to show what goes on behind the scenes and just how much work goes into this series. A must watch for adults and children alike, my 4 year old and 2 year old watched this episode continuously without a break. I would highly recommend watching this series, however if you only have time for one episode, this is the one to watch!!!!

Thought provoking stories, beautiful vibrant filming with a message
T100-10018 November 2023
The roller coaster of emotions is beautiful balanced though out this episode, sadness and loss, joy, jeopardy, humour, threat and relief. The ostrich story was powerful enough to feature in the human nature documentary Gogglebox in the UK.

The animal relationships to the grasslands and deserts across the world are explored beautifully from the opening drone shots to close up remote den cameras.

A sensitive message of caution and hope for the human relationships and impact is intertwined thoughtout, and developed further in the "making of" section at the end.

Overall a brilliant episode and a essential viewing fotlr everyone.

Well you heard it here first folks!

Over a third of the earth's surface is covered in dusty barren desert. Take into account that the other two thirds, or rather 71% of our planet is covered by water and mr. Attenborough just cancelled about 104% of the earth's surface as a suitable living space. Cities, suburbs and other residential areas are now cancelled... I used to enjoy these documentaries, but the continuous barrage of environmental fear mongering is reaching the point of obviousness where a child can do the math. The pictures are breathtaking, but you can just feel that around every corner lies the "but then came man", "things are changing too rapidly" mantras. Who are the real conservatives here?

the lies are not necessary. just preset the facts

The lies are not necessary. Just preset the facts. In this episode, david attenborough in one scene, says that the den of an animal is empty, which misleads the viewer and immediately makes the viewer feel sad, because it was populated by pups in a previous scene... and then just 10seconds or so later, you see the pups come out and then you realize "oh, you just lied to me to build suspense". You shouldn't lie to the viewer. It's already bad enough with the GIANT amount of foley sounds that this entire series contains, which are literally fake sound effects, but to go EVEN FURTHER and straight up lie and make up facts just to evoke sadness from the viewer, is a real scum move, even for the BBC.
