Warning: Spoilers
It's almost pure fiction, the old white guy takes Indian princess fantasy. Except in this case, Catalina was enslaved, and Diego was the slave trader.

"Netflix's 'The Queen and the Conqueror' alternatively titled 'La Reina de Indias y el Conquistador, is a historical drama that is loosely based on historic events. The show follows a dramatized history of India Catalina's tragic story. After being abducted as a child by Spanish conquistador Diego de Nicues, Catalina learns Spanish and becomes an interpreter and intermediary for another Spanish conquistador, Pedro de Heredia.

No one knows Catalina's real name and she married Pedro's nephew, Alonso Montanez, not Pedro. In the show, the story is quite different.

Pedro de Heredia is shown as a kind and compassionate man to Native Americans and African slaves. That is no true. We know he was a slave trader in both.

The writers whitewash what really happened, 'The Queen and the Conqueror' is told from the imperialist's point of view.

In the show, Pedro equally credits Catalina with establishing Cartagena. There is nothing to support that.

Her culture was destroyed and her relatives murdered. And yes, the real Pedro de Heredia used slaves. Cartagena became a huge slave market.
