Dune: Part Two (2024)
Dune and dumber.
What am I Missing?
I just don't get it. I'm a big fan of science fiction but I could not be more bored with this movie. It has good action, good special effects and good acting but I was so uninterested with the story line. Was there a story?
I saw Dune Part One the day before to be sure that the story would be fresh in my head. I was also hoping that Part Two would somehow help make part one more meaningful. Nope. Nothing.
I see Timothee Chalamet as an excellent actor with many great movies in his future. Austin Butler was fun to watch with his undeniable range. Zendaya's performance did absolutely nothing for me. Others were obviously there for the paycheck.
I hope others enjoy it and maybe someone can sit with me and explain the appeal because I fear that I'm the one telling "the emperor that he's not wearing any clothes".
Dune 1 & 2. Dune and dumber.
Blacklight (2022)
Almost Good
Almost Good, but it wasn't.
This movie had all the key elements of a great movie. Good actors, good directing, great action sequences, new car chases, emotional family ties. But what it lacked was . . . A script. What a boring, predictable and un-suspenseful waste of time.
I am a huge fan of Liam Neeson, but he obviously did not read the script; only the paycheck. Same with Aidan Quinn.
It almost seemed like they (the producers) filmed this entire movie without the principle actors first, had them (the actors) "fill-in-the-blanks" over a weekend and then told them "okay, we're done with you. Enjoy your time here in Australia (where the movie was filmed.)"
If you fall asleep while watching this, you probably did yourself a favor.
Secret Headquarters (2022)
Good Clean Action Fun
I was very happy to stumble upon this fun family-oriented movie.
Finally, a decent movie that you can watch with the entire family. If you're like me and get tired of stumbling through movies that are rated "MA", "TV-MA", "R" or "PG-13" (and they slip in an F-bomb and/or an uncomfortable sex scene), then this is a refreshing movie.
Aliens, youth sports, school dances, espionage and superheroes are all part of this fast acting flick.
Some may be bored because they have become numb to wholesome entertainment but I welcomed it and I am looking forward to watching this again with my grandkids without having to worry about keeping my finger on the fast-forward button.
History of the World: Part II (2023)
A complete UNFUNNY waste of time.
I can't believe that Mel Brooks signed off on this piece of garbage. Netflix must have waved a very large sum of money for him to put his name on this. Not a single second of humor. Foul language, dreadful characters, awful parodies, blasphemous, poor acting, bad writing and then it got worse.
I wish I stopped at the first episode but I told myself, "It HAS to get better". Boy, was I wrong! It got worse. My only saving grace is that I watched it alone and I didn't finish it.
Spare yourself the agony and watch paint drying. It's less painful.
Or better yet, watch Young Frankenstein again.
Oy vey!
The Shack (2017)
Not completely biblical but still encouraging
From my Christian perspective, I cannot fully endorse this movie for one simple reason. It's not Biblically accurate. While there are many good and decent aspects of this movie, no one should base their eternal beliefs on any movie. Only the Holy Word of God is infallible.
That being said, allow me to share some of the good aspects of this movie
1) The man, Mack does read the Bible.
2) The movie goes go out of its way to talk about the importance of forgiveness. Unforgiveness is a poison you take with the expectation that the other person will suffer. Jesus said,"If you do not forgive others, you will not be forgiven.
3) The movie also goes go out of its way to talk about the importance of relationships. Relationship with family, friends, God and others. It's an important lesson that started in the Garden of Eden.
The "not-so-good".
1) Anytime you try to humanize God, you are bringing Him down to our level. God already did that when He sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins and at the end, He said, "It is finished."
2) It is not Biblically accurate.
A Bible believing Christian may be able to see this movie with discernment, but I would not suggest a non-believer see this for fear that they will see (and believe) an inaccurate portray of a fallible God.
Fight Club (1999)
Bloody Hell
What did I just watch? So much hype and NOTHING.
The violence was gratuitous, the story was nonexistent and the ending was dumb.
The only iota of saving grace is the brilliant Helena Bonham Carter. She's a wonderful actress but what a waste of time and talent.
Reality check. Don't bother.
The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
Horribly Unfunny!
I don't get it.
Bad acting. Stupid story.
Gratuitous suicide attempt and nudity.
Famous ensemble cast that does absolutely nothing.
I'm a fan of Gene Hackman and Ben Stiller but what a waste of time.
Reservoir Dogs (1992)
Don't believe the hype.
This movie is just a bunch of guys talking about a heist that never happened.
I guess I'm just not a fan of Quentin Tarantino.
First Reformed (2017)
Boring
Slow build up and delivers nothing.
Actually less than nothing.
Christmas Break-In (2018)
To compare this movie to "Home Alone" is an abomination.
Danny Glover, Denise Richards, the entire cast of this movie all did something horrible and broke the law. Since they're actors living in California with a really good lawyers, as part of their punishment, they must agree to be in this movie as "community service" aka punishment.
I cannot think of any other explanation for this terrible movie.
There is a brief cameo by Kris Kringle, but his presence is never explained.
The bad guys are named "Rico" and "Barbi".
Stephen Hawking could have written a better script with his foot on a typewriter during an earthquake.
Big Night (1996)
Wish I could give it a ZERO!
Worse movie I ever saw!
Don't waste your time.
These actors are better than this.
Victor Frankenstein (2015)
Better than Expected
Because it did so poorly in the movie theaters (maybe it was released along side some blockbusters . . I don't know), I didn't expect much. That being said I'm always interested in a twist on a familiar story. THIS DELIVERED! Igor's perspective.
I've never liked Daniel Radcliffe in anything (especially Swiss Army Man) but I have always been a fan of James MacAvoy. They both deliver!
The only reason I didn't give it a better rating was because I had hoped for a better ending. Who knows, maybe they were holding out for a sequel . . . ?
Enjoy this one.
