Ricky Stanicky (2024)
Solid entertainment
This story is so full of holes, it would make fishnet stocking blush, but that's also where the fun begins!
One can tell the actors, producers and director had fun on this film. Sure it has its weak moments, but if you're going in expecting Shakespeare just know it's not that!
An interesting concept come to life, this movie has big (and some little) laughs and delivers on the entertainment front. A great cast and supporting actors, who are not afraid to be the butt of the joke, starting one of my all time favourites William H Macy - and here's the best part: filmed in Australia and I reckon if you listen closely, you'll find some Aussie accents that weren't quite able to hide it.
Super fun all-round!
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023)
Not just PG, just too easy
I was really looking forward to this as I'd enjoyed the movie. However, being PG shouldn't mean that it's just too easy. The whole pathway is set out, there are few (if any) surprises, making the whole thing rather boring.
Younger children might enjoy it, but then again it may be too confusing for them with all the gods and their family connections going on. So I really don't know who this is for, if not for someone looking for a way to pass time, while also replying to emails, cooking dinner or grooming the dog.
A quest for those looking for hidden gems. Please let me know if you find any!!
A Million Miles Away (2023)
A gentle slow burner to enjoy
While it was a slow burner, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie. As if the slow pace of the film took us on the long journey this inspiring man had to endure.
Some wonderful themes throughout, this film has a lot of feeling to really enjoy following along.
Watch it with your partner, friends or family, this is a movie that can be enjoyed by all, young and old.
I always appreciate a movie that is based on real life and seeing real life footage and photos during the credits, also one of the actor with the man himself, is a lovely way to finish this journey of tenacity, a real superpower!
The Little Mermaid (2023)
2hrs I'll never get back
I always say that if you create a re-make or life-action version of a movie you have to have something you want to add/ change. This was just 2hrs of dribble with some not- so- great added songs and actors who managed to convey nothing in their meaningless stares. Sad for the all the cast involved..!
Apparently I need to add more here to count as a review, which is odd. I think I've conveyed my feelings above.
I love Melissa McArthy and she was cast well in the role of Ursula, but her make-up made her look like a darker version of the Queen of Hearts.
Javier... you could have done better!!!
Reacher (2022)
What a let down...
Eye candy to attract the viewer, that is all this Reacher has to offer.
Unfortunately, due to the wooden "acting" by the lead there's no charisma between the three main characters at all and this whole show falls on its face.
Could have been so good...
Scream (2022)
Thoroughly enjoyable
I was sceptic when I heard about this movie, intrigued after seeing the previews and throughly enjoyed the movie from start to finish. Not a nail-biter exactly, but hit the spot!!
F9 (2021)
Just. Stop. Please!
Magnets, a trip down family lane and space rockets...
Feels like the writers were on acid as they discussed "what haven't we done yet?"
"Cars in space".
"Great idea!! Let's do it".
Just. Please stop!!
But I get it: 500 million revenue, I wouldn't stop either!!
The Green Knight (2021)
Discombobulated tripe
What a weird way to tell a story. If you're into mushrooms this might be for you.
