Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare delivers an exciting but fictionalized account of Operation Postmaster — a British special operation at Bioko during World War II. The action war drama is based on Damien Lewis’ 2014 book, Churchill’s Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of The Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII. It stars Henry Cavill as Gus March-Phillipps, the late special operations veteran of the British Army awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his highly successful missions. The film follows a group of skilled British soldiers under the command of Cavill’s Gus March-Phillipps in a covert operation against Nazi

Reacher's back -- unfortunately, he's not alone. Author Lee Child's airport-paperback novel series famously stars a hero that can only be described as a walking, talking tank. Prime Video's "Reacher" series has neatly translated the franchise's popularity on the page to the streaming era, thanks in large part to Alan Ritchson (recently the scene-stealing star of Guy Ritchie's "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare") as Jack Reacher. A far cry from Tom Cruise's capable (if not even remotely book-accurate) casting in the two movies, Ritchson embodies all the physicality described in the original books. After two successful seasons throughout the last few years, however, Reacher is due for his biggest challenge yet ... speaking extremely literally, of course.
Reacher's greatest enemy now has an equally as formidable actor attached to the role. According to CinemaBlend, the hulking villain known as Paulie will be played by Olivier Richters in all his seven feet,...

“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” (Warner Bros.), the year’s second-biggest grossing film so far (after the same studio’s “Dune: Part Two”). The $19.99 rental was an immediate #1 on both the iTunes (transaction counting) and Fandango (revenue) VOD charts.
The release comes 46 days after its theatrical opening, a fairly standard delay if not a bit longer. Meanwhile, “Godzilla Minus One” (Toho), the sleeper Japanese success and Oscar Visual Effects winner, has now passed the five-week mark since its domestic release with no home viewing options in sight.
The timing is tied to agreements between Legendary Films (the domestic “Godzilla” licensee) and the franchise’s Japanese owner to not directly compete with each other. As the Warners film advances in its home availability ($5.99 rentals and Max streaming still to come), it remains to be seen when Toho’s film will be permitted.

Henry Cavill’s professional relationship with director Guy Ritchie has been a subject of interest in recent times. Previously collaborating twice, in the 2015’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and 2024’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Cavill and Ritchie met with rather underwhelming performances of their films at the box office, both times.

Although different people will have different picks, when it comes to picking their favorite James Bond, at least we can agree that all the 007 actors over the years have been ridiculously handsome. But initially, in Daniel Craig’s case, he wasn’t seen as attractive enough for the part of James Bond.
While this statement might appear ridiculous at first glance, as Craig isn’t only handsome but also the best Bond since Sean Connery, Martin Campbell had some genuine reason behind his hesitancy. Even though the director had no problem with the actor and was always his first choice, for a moment, he was worried because Craig didn’t fit the mold for a traditional-looking Bond.

The Anne Hathaway- and Jessica Chastain-starring psychological thriller “Mothers’ Instinct” is set for release in Chinese theaters.
Directed by cinematographer-turned-helmer Benoît Delhomme, the 1960s film depicts a pair of model homemakers and next-door neighbors whose close friendship is severely undone by sudden tragedy. The film is an English-language remake of the 2108 French-language effort by Belgium’s Olivier Masset-Depasse’s film, which was an adaptation of the 2012 novel “Derriere La Haine” by Barbara Abel.
The film will release in China on May 24 on 2,500 screens. That likely sets it in competition with “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” as another English-language title releasing on that date, Variety has confirmed.
The film has had a handful of international releases and is also set for a North American outing at an unspecified date through Neon. The China release follows an agreement between sales firm Anton Corp and Chinese distributor Jl Film.

Pirates of the Caribbean 6 discussions are mostly centered around the potential return of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, despite the producer confirming it as a reboot project. Disney dropped Depp from the role after the actor was accused of domestic violence. However, the producer of the films, Jerry Bruckheimer, always supported the actor and advocated for his return to the role. He once again reiterated his wish during a recent interview.

Bruckheimer shared last year that he would like to potentially bring back Depp to a sequel film in the franchise. In his most recent comments, he shared that he would have the Donnie Brasco actor back if it were up to him.

John Krasinski and Ryan Reynolds teamed up together to create an iconic movie titled If which could have been quite an interesting tale. With Emily Blunt, Steve Carrell, and, Awkwafina joining the cast, the movie had great potential, but something turned out to be missing.

The reason why we say that it “could” have been a huge blockbuster is because of its early ratings. Although the film hasn’t been released yet, the early reviews are here and people did not like the movie too much. It seems that the critics hated the film even more, judging by the movie’s current ratings.

Guy Ritchie has already set up his next film, reportedly titled Wife & Dog. More on the project below.
Guy Ritchie, Hollywood’s busiest man, is already setting up his next film. World Of Reel reports that Ritchie’s next film will be called Wife & Dog. The film is heading to the Cannes market in the hopes it’ll find more backing there.
That’s all we really know at this point. World Of Reel mentions that the film is said to tackle the subject of class like his recent Netflix TV show The Gentlemen loosely based on a true story – the top secret Operation Postmaster.
The Snatch director is quickly gaining a reputation as the hardest working filmmaker in Hollywood. In the last five years, Ritchie has released six films and a TV show. He’s also currently filming Fountain Of Youth with Natalie Portman and John Krasinski.

Jerry Seinfeld’s highly touted (and largely panned) feature directorial debut, “Unfrosted,” spent four days leading Netflix’s top 10 movie chart before another Netflix original, “Mother of the Bride” starring Brooke Shields, took the slot before the thematically appropriate weekend holiday.
“Unfrosted” led for just four days, with “Shrek” from 2001 leading midweek before the debut of “Bride.” The Dreamworks animated classic is still in second place, while Seinfeld’s Pop-Tarts comedy dropped to fourth.
“Bride” comes from director Mark Waters. Perhaps best known for his “Freaky Friday” remake and the original “Mean Girls,” Waters went on to direct “The Spiderwick Chronicles,” “Vampire Academy,” and “Bad Santa 2.” In the new rom-com, Shields is a mom who realizes the father of her future son-in-law broke her heart decades ago.

One of the latest obsessions of viewers around the world is Guy Ritchie's “gentlemen” universe. Starting with 2019's The Gentlemen, and of course the new series of the same name that was released on Netflix in 2024, the stories of morally ambiguous men in nice suits drive the audience crazy.
However, it seems that these two projects weren’t enough for the director, so he decided to create another flick with a gentleman-esque vibe in the title. We are talking about the 2024 movie called The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
The first question that comes to the minds of all potential viewers was whether the movie is in any way connected to the already existing universe of The Gentlemen? All three installments were created by the British director Guy Ritchie, but if the two previous Gentlemen share “one DNA,” the new movie is not quite their buddy.

While in the middle of filming his latest mystery film, Fountain of Youth, Guy Ritchie is revealing another film project, Wife and Dog. Ritchie’s 18th feature hails from Black Bear, who launches Wife and Dog at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival event. Plot details about Wife and Dog remain a mystery, though Variety hears Ritchie is returning to the shady world of British Aristocracy for this anticipated feature. Cameras roll for Wife and Dog in October, with top-tier Hollywood actors negotiating for starring roles.
Like many of Ritchie’s film projects, he’s writing the screenplay and producing alongside his production partner, Ivan Atkinson, and Black Bear’s John Friedberg. Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler of Black Bear executive produce.

Guy Ritchie has another film in the works that doubles down on the British upper class.
The prolific director — already behind this year’s Netflix hit “The Gentlemen” and WWII action thriller “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” — has unveiled his 18th feature film, “Wife and Dog,” with Black Bear launching sales in Cannes.
Plot details and cast are currently being kept under wraps, but Variety hears that with the film, Ritchie will return to the colorful, back-stabbing world of British aristocracy that he explored in both “The Gentlemen” Netflix series and 2019 feature. “Wife and Dog” will shoot in October, with an A-list cast reportedly in negotiations to star.
Ritchie wrote the screenplay and produces alongside long-time producing partner Ivan Atkinson and Black Bear’s John Friedberg. Executive producers include Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler for Black Bear.

Jason Statham is someone who is admirably unpretentious and genuinely grateful for his success, and within that, he has a definite preference of films that can predominantly define his career. Earlier this year, Statham was seen in The Beekeeper, a seemingly usual action B-movie fare with the star, but the movie from Suicide Squad director David Ayer would throw in some bold conceptual curve balls to the normal vengeance tale. Deadline has now reported that Statham will be working with director Baltasar Kormákur for his next action film.
Kormákur’s resume features such credits as Contraband, 2 Guns, Everest and the recent Idris Elba lion attack film, Beast. According to Deadline, “In the currently untitled pic, Statham will play Mason who lives in isolation in a remote Scottish island. “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” is a high-octane movie directed by the incomparable Guy Ritchie and starring Henry Cavill alongside Eiza González. It promises a thrilling ride through a World War II narrative equipped with all the hallmarks of a classic Ritchie production: meticulously crafted style, unapologetic irony, and cinematic excellence.
Much like Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” (2009), “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” delivers a delectable mix of entertainment and popcorn fun without leaving a lasting mark. Yet, it doesn’t intend to break new ground or redefine Ritchie’s well-established directorial approach. Instead, it confirms his unparalleled ability to balance pace and polish the rough edges of his ‘rogue’ characters with an undeniable elegance.
Though “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” may fade from memory once the credits roll, it leaves an undeniably sweet aftertaste, making it a solid recommendation for a crowd-pleasing watch.

Celebrated for his portrayal of the iconic Superman in the DC Extended Universe, Henry Cavill has long been the subject of discussions regarding a potential crossover in the MCU. And one of the Marvel characters fans have envisioned him embodying is Wolverine. With Hugh Jackman likely to take a break from the character after Deadpool & Wolverine, several actors have emerged as potential contenders to play the X-Men.

(Welcome to Under the Radar, a column where we spotlight specific movies, shows, trends, performances, or scenes that caught our eye and deserved more attention ... but otherwise flew under the radar. In this edition: the haunting genre-bender "The Beast," the farcical indie "Hundreds of Beavers," and HBO's "The Sympathizer" all stand out as clear highlights.)
Buckle up, folks: The theme of this month's edition of "Under the Radar" falls under the category of weird and wild.
More so than in previous years, this past April marked something of an awkward transition point in the overall release calendar. While Oscar season is well and truly behind us, the summer blockbuster season still remains a few weeks away from truly ramping up in earnest. Sure, the one-two punch of "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" and "Furiosa" technically kick off the festivities in short order, but June and July are when the real heavy-hitters -- hello,...

Marvel Boss Kevin Feige Reflects On MCU’s Box Office Failures(Photo Credit –Wikimedia)
Kevin Feige is hopeful that Marvel will turn around from its rough phase box office-wise. The Marvel boss has recently reflected on the current state of the MCU and shared his thoughts on it. The studio is, however, looking forward to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool & Wolverine’s theatrical release for a blockbuster. Keep scrolling to get the deets.
Over the past few years, especially after Avengers: Endgame’s release, the MCU has been going through a tough time as its films are not doing as well as before. Some assume that this might be the case of superhero fatigue, but the Endgame directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, aka the Russo brothers, believe it is due to a generational gap. Ever wonder what it'd look like if a World War II drama was filtered through director Guy Ritchie's sensibilities? There isn't a single piece of generative AI tech out there that could possibly have come up with the result of "Casablanca" by way of "Inglourious Basterds," with a scene-stealing performance from Alan Ritchson, to boot. "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" perhaps wasn't the most Guy Ritchie film we've ever received, but it certainly was an entertaining enough way to spend an afternoon at the movies as the ensemble cast of stars pummeled Nazis for a solid two hours. Based on true historical events as depicted in the book "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: How Churchill's Secret Warriors Set Europe Ablaze and Gave Birth to Modern Black Ops," the action-comedy took a much more irreverent tone to the overall story of the first black ops mission in modern warfare.

While Guy Ritchie’s brand new movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare isn’t doing as well as everybody wished in the box office, a real lifesaver has already come to the director’s rescue.
Four years after its theatrical release, Ritchie’s action comedy hit The Gentlemen is finally available to stream on Netflix — and the timing for the movie’s arrival couldn’t be better.
Having a star-studded cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Hugh Grant, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong and many others, the film follows American cannabis wholesaler Michael ‘Mickey’ Pearson who seeks to sell his weed empire so that he and his wife Rosalind, portrayed by Michelle Dockery, could spend the rest of their life carelessly.

Challengers failed to repeat as the top film of the box-office weekend as newcomer The Fall Guy easily claimed first place by a margin of $20.4 million. Universal Pictures enjoyed dominance over the box-office weekend top ten as the studio sported three films in the weekend’s list.
Claiming first place was The Fall Guy with $28.5 million, easily besting the second-place film, the re-release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace which took in $8.1 million for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. This pushed last weekend’s top film, Challengers, to a third place finish where it added $7.6 million, raising its two-week total to $29.5 million for United Artists Releasing. Screen Gems, meanwhile, enjoyed the debut of Tarot in fourth place where it managed to bring in $6.5 million for the studio. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was consequently dropped two spots where it claimed fifth place with $4.5 million over the weekend.

Henry Cavill has starred in multiple action films in his career and has even performed many of his own stunts. The actor starred in two action comedies this year alone, featuring in Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle and Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which saw him return to his action hero persona.
The Superman star also featured in Mission: Impossible – Fallout in 2018, which saw trade blows with Tom Cruise. The latter, who is known for performing dangerous stunts on his own reportedly inspired Cavill to do so on the sets of the film. However, he had to go through one obstacle before he was allowed to perform one iconic stunt that the Cruise-led franchise is known for.

After the humongous hit and accolades he received from Barbie last year, Ryan Gosling is back on the big screen with The Fall Guy. The film interestingly pairs him with Oppenheimer star Emily Blunt whose film was part of the Barbenheimer hype train last year. Their hilarious banter about the phenomenon and their films attracted fans to see their chemistry in The Fall Guy.

The film was released on May 3, and audiences generally loved the David Leitch-directed film. On its opening day, the film collected an underwhelming box office collection of $10.4 million, a relatively low opening compared to its budget. The summer movie season has unfortunately started on a dull note.

Kerry Condon (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), William H. Macy and Clifton Collins Jr. have joined director Clint Bentley’s “Train Dreams,” Variety has learned.
Production on the film, from Black Bear and also starring Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones, began earlier this month in Spokane, Wash.
“Train Dreams” is the sweeping and poignant tale of Robert Grainier (Edgerton), a day laborer employed as a logger helping to expand the railways across America. Forced to spend prolonged periods of time away from his wife, Gladys (Jones), and their young daughter, Grainier struggles to make sense of his place in a rapidly changing world. As his story unfolds, he experiences great love, unspeakable loss, and unique bonds on a journey that is both distinct and universal. The picture features a script by Bentley and Greg Kwedar (“Sing Sing”), which is adapted from Denis Johnson’s iconic, Pulitzer Prize-nominated novella of the same name.

The past two weekends at the box office have been, in a word, miserable. Yes, "Challengers" won this most recent frame with a $15 million opening, but the total take for the weekend domestically was just over $60 million. Last weekend, when "Abigail" and Guy Ritchie's "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" underperformed, the weekend total was barely above $65 million. When total ticket sales for a weekend are less than what would be a so-so opening weekend for a summer blockbuster, things are dire. Fortunately, there are a couple of bright spots among the darkness.
On its fifth weekend in theaters, "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" pulled in $7.2 million domestically, dropping just 25% from weekend four. It held the number three spot on the charts behind this weekend's newcomers, "Challengers" and "Unsung Hero" ($7.75 million). That was also enough to bring it past the $500 million mark globally. After two weeks atop the box-office weekend, Civil War was pushed from the number one spot (and then some) and replaced by Challengers which took first place by a margin of $7.2 million.

Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers” (Amazon MGM) nearly doubled any other gross in its opening weekend, taking an easy #1 with an estimated $15 million. That’s respectable for the Zendaya-starring erotic tennis drama.
However, another week with this level of a #1 film isn’t what theaters need. After a month of intriguing new releases, none of them are likely to gross as much as $75 million in the U.S./Canada. Theaters faced a double burden — too few films released, and too few perform — but May could be different: It starts the summer season next week with “The Fall Guy” (Universal).
“Challengers” was not an automatic sell. It has Zendaya and excellent reviews (83 Metacritic score). Recent R-rated, sexually charged dramas are unusual these days. “Saltburn,” also from Amazon MGM, grossed $11 million in its release — $4 million less than the “Challengers” opening. “No Hard Feelings” with Jennifer Lawrence had the same opening gross last summer.

Guy Ritchie has been maintaining a consistent success rate with his films ever since his debut with Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. However, his recent ventures like The Covenant and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare have not fared well at the box office. The situation seems to be similar for the Russo brothers post their hit Marvel run.
Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin was a big hit for Disney in 2019
Their non-Marvel projects like Cherry and The Gray Man have not resonated with audiences. The Russos and Ritchie are returning to Disney for the live-action adaptation of Hercules. April came to a close with a number of smaller releases, ahead of the start of the summer movie season launching in May, though one movie definitely stood out ahead of the others. Read on for the weekend box office report.
Luca Guadagnino‘s tennis romance, “Challengers,” starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist, opened in 3,477 theaters on Friday with solid reviews, racking up $1.9 million in previews from Thursday and earlier. After pulling in $6.2 million on Friday (including previews), “Challengers” won the weekend with ease, making an estimated $15 million, and receiving a fair “B+” CinemaScore from audiences polled, as the movie became the talk of social media all weekend. “Challengers” also added another $9 million overseas in 52 markets to bring its global total to $25 million.

As expected, Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers scored an easy win this weekend, with a $15 million weekend, just a touch softer than we predicted earlier this week. The tennis-cantered love triangle was no doubt boosted by Zendaya’s star power, with her hotter than ever in the wake of Dune: Part Two’s blockbuster showing this winter. IMAX screens were dominated by Zendaya in one form or another, with both Challengers and Dune 2 playing in the format this weekend thanks to the latter’s re-release.
Notably, the film posted Guadagnino’s best box office opening to date, with the weekend total more than doubling the total take of his previous biggest opener, Bones and All. It’ll be interesting to see if Challengers can hold up in the coming weeks, with The Fall Guy opening next weekend and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes opening the weekend after. With...

It's no secret that the first third of 2024 has been at best uneven as far as the box office goes. Ticket sales are lagging way behind this same point in 2023, in no small part thanks to movies like "Abigail" and "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" underperforming on the same weekend. Thankfully, the summer movie season is on the horizon and Hollywood, as well as theater owners, will hinge their hopes on a varied slate being able to sell an outsized number of tickets. That all begins next weekend with the release of Universal's "The Fall Guy." The question is, can Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt strike gold in the summer season once again after last year's Barbenheimer phenomenon?
"The Fall Guy" will be the first blockbuster to hit theaters in May, which typically ushers in the summer for Hollywood. Currently, the big-budget action/comedy is looking at an opening weekend in the $40 million range,...

Jack Reacher’s Alan Ritchson stars alongside a powerhouse cast in Guy Richie’s action-packed historical dramedy, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Based on incredible true events, the film boasts names like Alex Pettyfer, Cary Elwes, Eiza González, Henry Golding, and – former Superman himself – Henry Cavill. While the ensemble cast shines, Ritchson was particularly struck by Cavill’s dedication. As the lead in his own show, Ritchson deeply understands the weight of being number one on the call sheet, and he praises Cavill’s leadership and work ethic. Whew, it’s not even May, and the cinematic “body count” rises up considerably with another lone, determined warrior facing nearly insurmountable odds. I suppose this is more of the “John Wick” effect, as filmmakers try to “up the ante” and deliver a flick with near wall-to-wall frenetic action. So far this year we’ve gone from the spy showdowns of Argyle to the avenger of the elderly The Beekeeper, and winding up a couple of weeks ago with the manic Monkey Man. For this week’s thriller we’re sent to a near future time in an exotic foreign land as, in a nod either to old Variety newspaper headlines or the beloved ABC Tgif sitcom, Boy Kills World.
And it is a nasty dystopian world for the preteen boy (Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti), who is being trained in the jungle by the surly, “slave-driving” Shaman (Yayan Ruhian). And...

With ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’, Guy Ritchie returns to his storytelling roots, reminiscent of his earlier works like ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’ and ‘Snatch’. This film, while standing on the familiar ground of high-stakes, artistically violent narratives, uses a historically inspired backdrop unlike any other. A high-octane blend of fact and fiction dazzles as Ritchie applies his signature quick cuts and gritty aesthetic to the murky waters of WWII espionage. Rooted in True WWII Espionage Inspired by the real-life operations of Britain’s Special Operations Executive (Soe), known for their unorthodox warfare strategies during World War II, ‘The
