Earlier today, the news broke that author Suzanne Collins is writing a new Hunger Games novel titled Sunrise on the Reaping. It will arrive in bookstores on March 18, 2025, and features a story which takes place 40 years after The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
"With 'Sunrise on the Reaping,' I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, 'the easiness with which the many are governed by the few,'" Collins explained. "The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question 'Real or not real?' seems more pressing to me every day."
Fans of the hit franchise wasted no time speculating that this book is likely setting the stage for another movie and, unsurprisingly, Lionsgate has confirmed plans (via SFFGazette.com) for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on...

There is a new Hunger Games movie in the works, and this time it will be a prequel about Haymitch Abernathy, the District 12 tribute and champion played by Woody Harrelson in the original cycle of films in the 2010s. The news came simultaneously Thursday with the announcement of the book upon which the film will be based: Suzanne Collins’ forthcoming The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
According to the press release, the new Young Adult novel and film will follow the events of the 50th Hunger Games, aka the Second Quarter Quell, when Haymitch became an unwilling tribute as a teenager. Presumably the experiences he endured both in the arena and the Capitol will turn him into the bitter middle-aged drunkard who Katniss Everdeen meets and redeems over the course of the original The Hunger Games story, which is set 24 years after the events of Sunrise on the Reaping.

Despite dystopian fantasy novels filling up bookstores on every street corner around the world, only a rare few manage to never go out of stock. It may be as ancient as J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit (1937) or as recent as Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games (2008), but the allure of escaping into a universe beyond one’s imagination never fails to attract crowds of fans thirsty for an escape.

Like J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology of Middle-earth, J.K. Rowling’s Hogwarts, and George R.R. "The Hunger Games" are far from over. Not only has it been confirmed that author Suzanne Collins is continuing the franchise with a brand new prequel novel, but Lionsgate has also announced that the forthcoming book will be turned into a movie. Titled "Sunrise on the Reaping," the book is due to hit shelves in 2025, with the movie dated for 2026. Most crucially, this new story will fill in the history of a character fans have wanted to know more about for a long time. Namely, Haymitch Abernathy.
According to a press release, the book will hit shelves on March 18, 2025. Lionsgate wasted precisely zero time in getting the rights to the film locked up. Francis Lawrence, who has directed every entry in the franchise save for the original, is in talks to return for this latest installment. That makes every bit of sense given the success of last year's "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes...

We are living in a time when Hollywood is actually making a lot of musical biopics, so it does not surprise us that one of the biggest musical artists of all time, Michael Jackson, will also be the center of an upcoming biopic. Lionsgate has acquired the rights to his story, and the upcoming film Michael is currently set for an April 18, 2025 release. The movie is a gamble due to Jackson being a controversial figure, but from what we can deduce, the executives at Lionsgate have a lot of confidence in the project.
Jim Packer, president of worldwide television distribution at Lionsgate, recently talked to the media and revealed his enthusiasm over the upcoming film, claiming that it will be Lionsgate’s biggest project of all time!
Packer told the media about his confidence in the movie, going as far as to claim that it is the studio’s biggest project ever.

The Hunger Games novel series by Suzanne Collins is a pillar of modern young adult fiction and one of the most important franchises of our time. It started off as a trilogy of novels – The Hunger Games (2008), Catching Fire (2009), and Mockingjay (2010) – which was later adapted into a well-received and lucrative film series. In 2020, Collins wrote The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, a prequel novel that was also recently adapted into a movie, and we have just received confirmation that Sunrise on the Reaping, another prequel novel, will officially be published on March 18, 2025, expanding the fictional universe of The Hunger Games.
The novel has been kept under wraps for some time, but this piece of news is certainly exciting as we now know that Collins has not given up on the franchise, which means that more works might appear in the future, which would be great!

A new Hunger Games novel by author Suzanne Collins will be published on March 18, 2025, publisher Scholastic announced today. Sunrise on the Reaping will be the fifth in the dystopian book series.
The new book will be set 24 years before the original Hunger Games novel and 40 years after the most recent installment The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
While Collins pointed to such influences as Greek mythology and Roman gladiators for her earlier entries in the series, she said the new one owes a nod to Enlightenment philosopher David Hume.
“With Sunrise on the Reaping, I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few.’ The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. Jim Packer, president of worldwide television distribution at Lionsgate, is betting the upcoming spin off of his Hollywood studio’s film and TV production and library business will become a franchise machine.

[This story contains spoilers for the first two episodes of Star Wars: The Acolyte.]
If you study enough trailers and promotional spots, you’ll start to notice the very deep game that trailer editors will sometimes play, especially with franchises as notoriously coy as Star Wars. Of course, any coded language is most evident when watching marketing materials after you’ve finally viewed the title in question, but in the case of the Leslye Headland-created and Amandla Stenberg-led The Acolyte, our first glimpse of their mystery-thriller series offered a few lines that were bound to perk up ears.
In March, when The Acolyte’s official trailer debuted, it began with Lee Jung-jae’s Master Sol addressing a group of Jedi younglings by saying, “Close your eyes. Your eyes can deceive you. We must not trust them.” That’s when yours truly theorized that Lee’s character was also offering meta advice to the audience about the Disney+ series’ overall narrative,...

Amandla Stenberg’s The Acolyte is the new addition to Disney’s Star Wars roster, which continues the House of Mouse’s formula to bank on small-screen releases since the debacle of The Rise of Skywalker. Moreover, following the mixed reception to the sequel trilogy, in recent years, fans have been warming up to the prequel trilogy, which was initially panned upon their release.
But while the public perception towards the prequels has changed over time, a majority still holds the original Star Wars trilogy at the top, and for good reason. However, Stenberg, who is not new to controversies, had a surprising answer when asked about her favorite entry in the franchise.

Brought you from the school of “let’s throw everything at the wall and see what sticks”, the latest instalment in the long-running Bad Boys franchise – the first film was released in 1995 – feels less like a real movie and more like an extended TikTok skit. Helmed by Belgian-Moroccan directing duo Adil & Bilall, Bad Boys: Ride or Die reunites Will Smith and Martin Lawrence for the fourth time in the weakest film of the franchise so far.
When their recently murdered police captain gets falsely linked to drug cartels, Miami cops Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) embark on a race against time to clear their old mentor’s name. While Mike is apprehensive about their ability to uncover the conspiracy against their old boss, Marcus has deduced that a recent near-death experience has resulted in him becoming invincible.
Hilarity ensues when the duo are accused of deliberately breaking out...

After the Harry Potter franchise concluded in 2011, the filmmakers attempted to fill the young adult movie niche. The new fashion of the 2010s became a series of teen dystopian movies, headed by The Hunger Games that was a huge success back in 2012.
Based on Suzanne Collins’ novels, it set the bar quite high for similar movie adaptations, however, the subsequent big screen versions of the hyped bestsellers clearly lacked its wholesomeness. These include the 2014 sci-fi action flick that followed in Thg’s footsteps.
Set in post-apocalyptic America, the movie centers on Tris, a 16-year-old girl whose fate is about to be decided. The point is the new dystopian society is divided into four factions based on human virtues: Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, and Erudite.
Born and raised as a member of Abnegation, Tris should choose which faction is going to be her new home, but before that she is warned...

This weekend, the box office looked more like a Wasteland than the fruitful Green Place of Many Mothers.
“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” underperformed in its box office debut with $25.6 million between Friday and Sunday and an estimated $31 million through Memorial Day on Monday. Instead of ruling the box office as expected, it’s in a shockingly close race for first place with Sony’s animated “The Garfield Movie,” which collected $24.8 million over the weekend and an estimated $31 million through the four days. Neither could salvage the holiday weekend, which is the worst it’s been in nearly three decades.
It wasn’t just domestic audiences that failed to show up for “Furiosa.” The fifth entry in director George Miller’s post-apocalyptic series, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, is stalling at the international box office with $33.3 million from 75 territories, bringing its worldwide tally to $58.9 million. Kai Cenat is on a roll. After completing a marathon playthrough of the notoriously difficult video game Elden Ring, Cenat kept his hot streak going when he drew 400,000 viewers for a collab with actor and comedian Kevin Hart.
Hart teased his appearance on Cenat’s stream one month before the broadcast’s go-live date. He promised “big things” for the collab, and he did not disappoint Cenat’s 10.7 million Twitch followers. During a broadcast that lasted nearly four hours, Hart and Cenat presented comedic “gifts” and matched each other’s high-key energy. The affinity between the two entertainers comes as no surprise; Cenat, who has serious Hollywood ambitions, has been described as a Kevin Hart for the internet age.
Hart is not the first celebrity to appear alongside Cenat on his popular Twitch channel, and the streaming star is making sure to provide plenty more entertaining broadcasts for his ever-growing audience.

Back in 2012, the world saw the first film, based on Suzanne Collins’ dystopian novels. Since then, The Hunger Games fever has swept all cinema lovers, especially ones of the younger generation, and marked the new era of dystopian movie franchises.
It has also given rise to a number of attempts to mock all these authoritarian fictional worlds and their frightening rules, with one movie of this kind definitely standing out among all of them. Even though it was released 4 years ago and fell victim to the pandemic’s limitations, it’s still heatedly discussed by Redditors.
Its plot revolves around twelve people who wake up in a strange remote place unaware of where they ended up and how. It turns out they were kidnapped by a group of crazy elites to hunt them for fun. However, their game is about to be turned down by one of the hunted who...
