It wasn’t hard to choose five of George Harrison‘s most awkward interviews because he had many throughout his career. The top five will make even some of the former Beatle’s casual fans cringe.
George Harrison | Bernd Mueller/Getty Images 1. ‘Today Show,’ 1986
George’s 1986 appearance on the Today Show is one of his most awkward interviews for many reasons. At the beginning of the interview, the reporter asks about his involvement with Monty Python. She says “Monty Python” slowly, as if she is not saying it correctly. George picks up on it and imitates her in a slow American accent. You can watch it at the 2:30 mark in this video.
Her mention of Monty Python leads to a seemingly deep but confusing question about George’s philosophy of making films with his production company, HandMade Films. She says laughter is the biggest release and asks him if...

Tokyo Dragon Chef – available on DVD and Digital
From us: Yoshihiro Nishimura directs another preposterous combination, this time mixing yakuza, food, musical and exploitation in the most insane matter, and through a rather low budget approach that did not allow him to present his trademark special effects. The characters, however, are as absurdly hilarious as they can come, with the whole concept of the hardcore yakuza trying to be kind to their customers and hiring influencers to help them, being both extremely funny and a kind of social comment regarding social media and the fate of failed/retired yakuza. (Panos Kotzathanasis)
Deliver Us From Evil – avail. for release now
Distributor: Signature Entertainment
From us: Overall, this is an entertaining action movie featuring two strong and likeable leads, although the predictable set-ups are sloppy and the story offers nothing new. In fact it’s similar to Wilson Yip’s “Paradox,...

Ever since Crisis on Infinite Earths back in the 1980’s, I’ve always been a sucker for those big DC events featuring dozens of heroes and villains. Legends, Zero Hour, Convergence, Countdown, Infinite Crisis, and many others have come and gone before. Being honest, the story hasn’t always lived up to expectations with these events, but the novelty of throwing all these characters together usually makes up for that. I’m especially a sucker for using obscure or third banana level characters, or teaming up characters from different time periods. Hey, don’t judge me, I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Generations Shattered has had something of an odd history, coming out several months later than originally planned, due to Dan Didio’s firing and its original endpoint having to be...

Steve Kornacki has a new job that lets him keep his old uniform.
MSNBC viewers revere the khaki-and-dress-shirt-clad correspondent’s ability to synthesize reams of polling data that helps them understand the twists and turns of various elections. Just a month ago, Kornacki manipulated a giant touch screen during hours and hours of MSNBC 2020 election coverage — and helped millions of anxious viewers get through one of the most harrowing political events in recent memory.
Now he’s hoping to do the same for football fans.
Kornacki just finished a second week of Sunday duty for NBC Sports, making regular appearances on ”Football Night in America” and the halftime show of ”Sunday Night Football.” He’s not looking at how many votes Trump or Biden may have left in Arizona’s Maricopa County. He’s examining the potential for the Miami Dolphins or Baltimore Ravens to reach the playoffs. “There’s...

Anne Winters, who starred in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, is stepping up behind the scenes after optioning Elissa R. Sloan’s debut novel The Unraveling of Cassidy Holmes.
Winters, who will star in the upcoming third season of Hulu’s The Orville, will produce an adaptation of the YA novel, which was published in September 2020 by Harper Collins.
The book follows Cassidy Holmes aka Sassy Gloss, the fourth member of the most idolized pop group in America who ends her own life. Told in multiple perspectives, including Cassidy’s, the page-turning story is a behind-the-scenes look into the rise and fall of a pop icon, and a penetrating examination of the dark side of celebrity and the industry that profits from it.

When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers face the New York Giants this evening on “Monday Night Football,” it will mark a sort-of reunion — Bucs quarterback Tom Brady reunited with the Giants, the team that most bedeviled him during his legendary run with the New England Patriots. And though Brady’s no longer with the Patriots and the Giants are off to a 1-6 start, the matchup will call to mind for many one of the greatest championship games in NFL history — Super Bowl Xlii in 2008, when Eli Manning’s Giants pulled off a come-from-behind victory, ending what would have been an undefeated season for Brady and the Patriots.
For ESPN reporter Michelle Beisner-Buck, the occasion is both opportunity and challenge. Brady v. the Giants provides an obvious and rich territory to explore in her weekly feature segment on the network’s pregame show “Monday Night Countdown.” But Super Bowl Xlii has...

I'm not dressing up for Halloween this year, but that's Ok, because Tabria Majors has put in the work of me plus 15 more people for her 2020 costume. The model dropped an unbelievable video tribute to Beyoncé for the Oct. 31 holiday, honoring Queen Bey's most iconic music video moments from the early 2000s up 'til today.
"I wanted to do something different this year for Halloween and pay tribute to someone that I admire and respect so much - Beyonce!" Tabria wrote on Instagram alongside her video. "This project was incredibly stressful to make but so much fun!" Tabria doesn't consider herself a dancer "by any means" but she "wanted to apply Beyoncé's infamous work ethic to this project and see how far I could push myself."

“Cellphone horror” updates itself as technology improves and its place in culture changes. In 2019, “Countdown” warned of the perils of downloading every newfangled popular app for funsies, especially apps that kill. This year, Jacob Chase’s “Come Play,” adapted from his 2018 short “Larry,” moves from phones to smart devices and cries “stranger danger,” reminding audiences that none of us know who’s watching us through our screens, or what; a pervert named Larry, perhaps, or an extra-dimensional child-snatching monster?

Game 4 of the NBA Finals on ABC dominated Tuesday night in the primetime ratings, delivering a 1.9 in the adults 18-49 demographic and 5.27 million viewers — both numbers rising from Sunday’s Game 3. Last night saw the Los Angeles Lakers defeat the Miami Heat to take a 3-1 series lead and can clinch the title Friday.
As always with live sports, those numbers are likely to get adjusted later today, but so far they are the best for this year’s NBA championship series since Game 1. Last night’s game was preceded again by ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night and NBA Countdown, and the block gave the network the overall victory in both the demo and viewers for the night.
Fox aired its new sci-fi drama Next, which finally got its premiere after being held over from last season. Its debut fell below the premieres of the...

While this year’s Emmy Awards had a 33% increase in Black nominees, there were still many groups who were underrepresented or not recognized at all.
To mark the importance of such recognition moving forward, Ana’s Alliance for Inclusive and Multicultural Marketing – Aimm – partnered with Billy Porter, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Daniel Dae Kim, Isis King, Jamie Chung and Nicole Scherzinger to create a PSA challenging the entertainment industry to increase diverse and accurate cultural representation in programming and advertising. An extension of Aimm’s #SeeALL movement, television viewers are being driven to participate through a dedicated social campaign.
Aired during the “Countdown to the Emmys” preshow on ABC, the spot encourages the entertainment industry to unite in this fight for change. Its powerful message raises awareness for the importance of meaningful, holistic cultural representation, showcasing how diverse and multicultural actors and actresses are more than boxes to be checked on a casting sheet.

Channel 4 has announced that it is rebooting its iconic morning show The Big Breakfast after an 18-year hiatus, with BAFTA-winning British comedian Mo Gilligan hosting a one-off special.

ITV Studios will produce The Big Breakfast revival after the show was originally made by Charlie Parsons’ production company Planet 24. Channel 4 promised to recapture the show’s anarchic spirit and said it will be reimagined through an “unashamedly Black British lens.”

With the season two finale of NBC’s “Songland” just hours away, hitmaker and star mentor Ester Dean is not ready to say goodbye to her Monday night showcase. “I want to do more TV,” she says. “I love TV, and if TV coincides with my songwriting, I don’t have to give up one kid for the others. So I would love to do more. I want to be Oprah. At the end of the day, that’s my goal. … I mean, Kelly Clarkson is doing exactly how I want to do it. She’s amazing.””

Ray Donovan‘s surprise cancellation means that the Season 7 finale must now function as the Showtime drama’s series finale. And that would be all well and good had the episode featured even a modicum of closure. Unfortunately, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” — which aired on Jan. 19 — left the fate of nearly every character up in the air.
Showtime confirmed on Tuesday that the Liev Schreiber-fronted drama would not be back for Season 8, telling TVLine in a statement, “After seven incredible seasons, Ray Donovan has concluded its run on Showtime. We are proud that the series ended amid such...

For the fourth consecutive weekend, “Frozen 2” remained as the box office champion in South Korea. The Walt Disney release earned $6.55 million from 896,000 admissions between Friday and Sunday and accounted for 42% of the total weekend box office.
It has now earned a total of $85.9 million from 12.1 million admissions after four weekends on release. The animated feature is currently the fourth biggest release of the year in the country, behind “Extreme Job” and two other Disney releases: “Avengers: Endgame” and “Aladdin.”
Opening on Wednesday, “Jumanji: The Next Level” landed in second. The Sony release earned $5.77 million from 803,000 admissions over five days, including $4.42 million over the weekend. The fantasy adventure film accounted for 28% of the country’s total weekend grosses.
“Ford v Ferrari,” “Knives Out” and “A Little Princess” each slipped by one place from the previous weekend’s second, third and fourth spots, respectively. Disney’s “Ford V Ferrari” earned $1.88 million between...

“Playmobil: The Movie” will make box office history, but certainly not in the way it intended. Stx’s animated adventure generated less than $1 million despite launching in 2,337 North American theaters and now stands as one of the worst opening weekends of all time.
“Playmobil” scraped together just $668,000 over the weekend, marking the third-lowest debut ever for a film that was playing in over 2,000 locations. The only movies to suffer worse fates were 2012’s “The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure” and 2008’s “Delgo”.
North American theater chains and regional venues offered the film for $5, significantly less than the average ticket price in U.S. of roughly $9. Children’s tickets can run up to $15 in major markets like New York or Los Angeles. But even heavily discounted prices weren’t enough of an incentive. Since it’s already a competitive time of year for moviegoing, the studio will struggle to hold...

Not since Nemesis have we seen Patrick Stewart in the role of Jean-Luc Picard, but that all changes in 2020.
On January 23rd, CBS All Access will launch Star Trek: Picard, a brand new installment in this iconic franchise that picks up years after Nemesis left off. Such a dramatic leap has naturally fueled heated debate online, as Trekkies attempt to solve exactly what happened to Picard and The Next Generation crew in the intervening years.
Well, thanks to the newly-released comic Countdown #1 by Kirsten Beyer, Mike Johnson, and Angel Hernandez (h/t ComicBook.com), we can at least cross one name off the list: Cmdr. Geordi La Forge. As the comic is a prequel by design, it takes place in the year 2385, two years before Romulus is destroyed by a Supernova and several more years before the events of next year’s Picard series.

Four films debuted in theaters this weekend and those same four films took the top four spots in the box-office weekend countdown. For this weekend at least, bragging rights for the top spot goes to the Veterans’ Day themed Midway, which took in $17.5 million.
Elsewhere, the horror-film Doctor Sleep debuted in second place just behind Midway, with an opening weekend tally of $14.1 million. Meanwhile, the family-friendly Playing with Fire enjoyed a $12.8 million opening weekend and the romantic, holiday-themed comedy Last Christmas made $11.6 million during its first weekend in theaters.
Dropping from first-place last week to fifth this was the science-fiction sequel Terminator: Dark Fate, which managed to add $10.8 million in a crowded weekend, giving the sequel a two-week total of $48.5 million. Joker, meanwhile, finished in sixth place—dropping from second last week—adding another $9.2 million to its considerable bank so far, which now stands at $313.5 million over the last six weeks.

Deadline is reporting that Anne Winters will join the cast of the third season as Charly Burke. As is the norm with this series, no other details have been revealed.
The move to Hulu was announced back in July by Seth MacFarlane, who explained that the show would not be back on the air until the end of 2020.

Late last week, National Association of Theater Owners CEO John Fithian performed a victory dance in the New York Times when “The Irishman” clearly fell short of the theaters Netflix sought for its platform opening. However, that looks like a Pyrrhic victory in the face of “Terminator: Dark Fate” — yet another $100 million-plus would-be blockbuster that opened in his theaters to little box-office effect.
Theaters don’t make the movies, of course, but they do influence what studios make. At Cinemacon, exhibitors respond to clips from films like “Terminator: Dark Fate,” “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” and “Gemini Man” as if they represent roads paved with gold, while lustfully booing any mention of Netflix. This is the third big-budget flop this fall, and it reveals a myopia that could destroy the industry.

Paramount’s “Terminator: Dark Fate” is falling short of expectations with a projected $27 million opening weekend at 4,086 North American locations.
Though the sixth installment of the sci-fi franchise is dominating domestic moviegoing, the results are a disappointment, given the hefty $185 million cost. “Terminator: Dark Fate” took in $10.6 million on its opening day, including $2.4 million from previews on Halloween night.
Pre-release forecasts for “Dark Fate” had been in the $40 million range. The film had generated buzz due to it being the first franchise entry since 1991’s “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” with series creator James Cameron and stars Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger returning.
“Dark Fate” centers on Hamilton’s resistance leader Sarah Connor protecting a young girl from a deadly new killer cyborg from the future. Tim Miller (“Deadpool”) directed “Dark Fate” from a screenplay by David S. Goyer, Justin Rhodes and Billy Ray. New cast members include Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes and Gabriel Luna.

Elizabeth Lail has had an eventful first five years in Hollywood. After graduating from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in the spring of 2014, Lail quickly landed the role of Anna (based on the Frozen character) on ABC’s Once Upon a Time. From there, Lail wasted no time as she became a finalist to play Kara Danvers/Supergirl on CBS’ Supergirl. Paramount/Skydance Media/Fox’s Terminator: Dark Fate drew $2.35M from 7 p.m. shows on Halloween night. Last night we were hearing early estimates between $1.5M-$1.7M, so this definitely is an improvement on that.
That’s on par with the Tuesday night previews of its previous chapter, Terminator: Genisys which made $2.3M back on June 30, 2015. In fact it is pretty good for a Halloween night, which typically attracts audiences to genre and family fare. Genisys had a five-day opening, making $27M over its three-day weekend and $42.4M over five days. Note this is the second time in the Terminator franchise since the first pic in 1984 that one of its pics have played the fall corridor and also opened on a pure 3-day weekend. Typically Terminator movies play the July 4th spread, opening mid-week and racking up a five-seven day run. Terminator Salvation was the only movie to play the...

Now that Halloween is officially upon us, going to the theaters to check out one of the recent horror movies – Zombieland 2, The Lighthouse, or Countdown – may sound like a good idea. But, did you ever stop to consider that maybe home video might be your best option for this ghoulish holiday?
Sure, watching reruns of some of your favorite slasher classics may sound like a typical course of action – especially the appropriately named John Carpenter series – but one of the best horror films of this year, which came out a long time ago. has certainly earned its place in your candy-filled movie night: Jordan Peele’s Us.
Premiering at this year’s SXSW film festival, the Get Out director’s sophomore feature was another smash hit, grossing over $250 million at the global box office. Surely, a lot of that movie’s success can be attributed to the not one, but...

It makes sense that on the week when people dress up for make believe, the movie that created one of the most popular characters of Halloween 2019 returned to No. 1 in its fourth weekend.
D.C. Comics’ “Joker” fell only 35 percent in its fourth weekend — and more impressively, it’s on a weekend that tends to see a fall in grosses. It also was helped by the weakness of three new wide releases.
Grosses are likely to stay close to the same period a year ago. That’s a positive shift, but the gap remains around $525 million with only a little more than two months to close it.
“Joker” would be doing well by any gauge; it’s especially true with a $65 million production cost, and updated worldwide figures surging to $850 billion. It looks like it could have as much as $100 million left in it, even without the China date that...

It's a narrow race at the top of the box office, but based on estimates WB's Joker was able to return to the weekend #1 spot after a brief respite last weekend as Disney's Maleficent: Mistress of Evil falls to second in its sophomore frame Meanwhile it was an equally tight race for third as well as fifth with the new releases of Countdown and Black and Blue competing for that last spot in the top five.
Returning to the top of the weekend box office is WB's Joker, which dipped just -35% as it entered its fourth week in release with an estimated $18.9 million three-day. The film's domestic cume now tops $277.5 million, which is enough to make it the seventh largest R-rated release domestically of all-time. Internationally the film added another $47.8 million this weekend, pushing the film's overseas total to $571.5 million for a global tally totaling nearly $850 million.
