- It's Greg Pratt's last shift at County General and he treats a number of cases that were started by John Carter on the day shift. They treat a 12 year-old near drowning victim who has little chance of recovery; a Buddhist nun who has a special gift of seeing another's inner self; a woman who is convinced that the day's solar eclipse signals the end of the world; a drug addict who scams both of them for pain medication; and a pregnant woman who had her baby torn out of her womb. Dr. Romano has his re-attached arm amputated. Carter receives a call from Luka Kovac asking if he can come to the Congo and help out. Abby is none too pleased. Meanwhile, Doc Magoo's burns to the ground.—garykmcd
- On the day of a solar eclipse, both shifts in ER, shown in rapidly alternating shots focusing on Pratt for the night-shift (it's his last planned shift at County before he moves on to Northwestern) and Carter in the day-shift, are slammed with cases. Carter must mainly deal with a mass cult suicide and Pratt mainly with the victims of a gang war resulting from the drive-by shooting the week before, but several cases are passed over, like a pre-teen drowning victim who Carter initially believes has little chance but recovers that night while being treated by Pratt, a Buddhist nun dying of cancer, and a woman who had her baby cut out of her. Corday offers support as Romano has his useless arm amputated. Hearing Luka can't cope in the Congo, Crater volunteers to join him, while Doc Magoo's burns down and Pratt decides to stay after all.—KGF Vissers
