True Crime is a part of everyday media that the TV series, specials, films, and documentaries all about it have been around forever. But actually, that’s not the case. The format we now see, wasn’t the norm at all in the 80s when Unsolved Mysteries began its iconic run. A weekly series built around cases and interviews with the people who were a part of them, re-enacting the crimes…had never been done before.
But then one day a series came along that would not only showcase True Crime but would also give us ghosts, UFOs, and all points in between. Not only that, but the theme song would cause Ptsd in most kids my age who had the fortune or misfortune to hear it. That series is Unsolved Mysteries, a series so popular that it changed not only pop culture but the way investigations within law enforcement were conducted.

Did you ever wonder what your favorite stars did before they were famous?
Although there are a few rare exceptions, most celebrities did not start as stars. They had standard jobs just like the rest of us.
Some even had extremely unusual jobs. Here are eleven examples.
Harrison Ford Was a Carpenter
You would be hard-pressed to find a person alive who doesn't know who Harrison Ford is.
The iconic actor starred in some of the most popular films ever, including the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises.
The star of 1923 and Shrinking turned 81 on July 13, 2024, but he seems to have no intention of slowing down. That's no surprise since he has been a hard worker for his entire life.
Shrinking Season 1 Episode 3 Review: 15 Minutes

You can’t turn on the television or open a podcast these days without being assailed by true crime in its many forms and director Jimmy Goldblum, after working on one of those shows, made the decision to take a particular trope from the genre and flip it on its head. Jude, an extract from a novel and made as a proof of concept short, doesn’t follow the typical trajectory of a young girl gone missing narrative but instead dives into the crevices of what is left behind and in particular, that empty void where a child once sat, cherished and loved. Seeking a better reality, 14 year old Appalachian local Cindy Stoat cuckoos herself into that hole left by loss and the tragedy is suddenly seen from different eyes. The mysteries and unspoken truths in Jude ooze out of every scene, the dark and brooding house where our young...

If you’ve watched Russell Chuck’s 1988 movie The Blob as a kid, my sympathies. Anybody who has seen the movie is bound to be uncomfortable at the mention of blobs throughout their lives. Netflix’s Files of the Unexplained takes you to a small town in Washington where mysterious blobs fell out of the sky in the early 90s.
What Happened In Oakville?
From August 7, 1994, a series of rainy days began in Oakville. Oakville residents Sunny Barclift and her mother noticed small, transparent, gelatinous blobs falling from the sky along with the rain. Sunny and her mother thought the rain looked ‘thick.’ When her mother fell ill after touching the substance, Sunny decided to conduct tests on it. The blobs float in water, dissolve in alcohol but don’t break down, and have zero flammability. Soon after Sunny’s mother fell ill, reports of other people in town falling...

In the episode of "The X-Files" called "Bad Blood," Agents Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Mulder (David Duchovny) have to get their story straight after Mulder murders a young man (Patrick Renna) believing him to be a vampire. Know immediately that "Bad Blood" is one of the rare comedy episodes of "The X-Files," and that it is deeply beloved by X-Philes the world over. Indeed, /Film listed it as the best episode of the series, replacing the show's usual funereal tone with one of whimsy. This is an episode wherein Mulder, when knocked in the head, uncontrollably begins singing "Theme from Shaft."
"Bad Blood" is told in a pair of flashbacks, telling slightly different versions of the same event, "Rashomon"-style. Scully recalls investigating a series of mysterious cattle exsanguinations in Texas and is careful to relate Mulder's behavior as cavalier and condescending. She also notes that there was no evidence of vampires.

Last September, it was announced that the Netflix streaming service had ordered a third volume of their Unsolved Mysteries reboot, with the initial plan being for the new episodes to be released sometime in summer 2022. Well, those episodes are going to be a little later than expected, but most of them will be available to watch in time to add some chills to your Halloween season this year. Netflix has revealed that they will be releasing the episodes of Unsolved Mysteries volume 3 in three installments, with the release dates being October 18, October 25, and November 1. Each of those dates is a Tuesday.
Since the previous two volumes of this Unsolved Mysteries both consisted of six episodes, I’m assuming that volume 3 does as well – and if that’s the case, we’ll probably be getting two episodes each week.

How does Netflix determine which titles leave and which enter its dauntingly large library? Do they carefully analyze viewing statistics and find content that caters to our interests? Or do they simply throw an immense amount of content at the wall and watch what sticks?
The answer is probably a mix of both. Like most entertainment companies, Netflix knows full well the potential of mathematics, but it also respects the creative spirit. As such, some new additions may have been carefully chosen, and others not. In any case, here’s an overview of the 81 new movies and TV shows headed to the platform this coming week.
Let’s begin with the basics. One of the most inoffensive yet well-crafted Hollywood films arriving is Donnie Brasco. Produced in 1997, it stars now-legendary actor Johnny Depp in one of his first lead roles ever, and tells the story of an undercover cop who...

The summer movie season, as we usually know it, isn’t happening this year, with few big releases planning to drop over the next couple of months, even if cinemas are just starting to reopen. Instead, then, it’s falling on Netflix and the various other streaming services to pull their weight and give movie lovers a range of new content to feast on. Thankfully, July isn’t looking too shabby for original films and TV, not to mention lots of classics or underrated gems appearing on all the usual sites.
Of course, Netflix has the most original output coming across next month. TV fans, in particular, have got much to look forward to, including season 2 of The Umbrella Academy. In fact, it’s a good month for fantasy series based off comic books all-round, as we’ve also got Arthurian retelling Cursed and super-powered action show Warrior Nun coming as well.

You know, plenty of streaming services would treat the dog days of summer as an excuse to slow down. At Netflix, however, the content buffet is still open, baby. Despite the coronavirus pandemic shutting down all of Hollywood for an extended period of time, Netflix’s new releases for July 2020 are still jam-packed with a host of familiar originals.
The blockbuster this month is probably The Umbrella Academy season 2. The next installment for the Hargreeves family arrives on July 31. And if that’s too long of a wait for you, Netflix gets the month off to a strong start with a string of originals as well. Unsolved Mysteries arrives on July 1, followed by Warrior Nun on July 2, and The Baby-Sitter’s Club on July 3. That’s not even to mentioned the feminist take on Arthurian legend, Cursed, which premiers on July 17.
There are a couple of intriguing original movies to consider this month as well.

It’s time to solve some mysteries. Netflix is rebooting the classic “Unsolved Mysteries” television show and the streaming service dropped a trailer for the upcoming series early Tuesday.
“Unsolved Mysteries,” which documents various cold cases and paranormal occurrences, has been dormant for several years but had a rich history before Netflix announced its intent to reboot the franchise earlier in the year. Now, Netflix is rebooting the show with Meurer and Cosgrove, as well as “Stranger Things” production company 21 Laps Entertainment.
The first six episodes of “Unsolved Mysteries,” which will contain 12 episodes, will premiere on Netflix on July 1. Release dates for the other six episodes were not provided.

Netflix has mysteries that need to be solved. The streamer is bringing back Unsolved Mysteries, the iconic docuseries returns with six new episodes on July 1 with six additional to drop at a later date. The original series creators John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer are on board with Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy. "We regarded Unsolved Mysteries as a 'mystery' show, not a 'true crime' show. When choosing cases, we've always looked for diversity in races, ages, locations and eras. We've covered such classic mysteries as Bigfoot, and high-profile, historic crimes ranging from the Black Dahlia murder to the Kennedy assassinations," Cosgrove and Meurer said in a statement released...

The streaming wars may have recently been kicked up a notch with the addition of new combatants like Disney Plus and HBO Max, but with over 180 million subscribers worldwide, it looks like Netflix‘s position at the top of the tree is virtually unassailable.
It helps that they seem to have a bottomless pit of cash that allows them to fund mega-budget original projects like Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman and Michael Bay’s 6 Underground alongside acquiring the streaming rights to countless other movies and TV shows, and while the focus has been shifting more and more towards in-house content in recent years, there’s no sign of them abandoning their well-established and massively successful strategy just yet.

The hope is that the sorrow of losing a loved one proves the extent of the pain we must suffer before we set about sifting through what’s left of that expired life. It’s why we throw parties after funerals to try and approach a sense of normalcy through a celebratory remembrance of yesterday’s good times together despite today’s tough truth making it possible. We take a deep breath, confront our grief, and await the will reading meant to put every duck in its row before dispersing back towards our respective homes and families yet again. We take care of these details in the present to alleviate what must ultimately be done in the future. We confirm each other’s wishes so there’s no room for any surprises.

Comcast and NBCUniversal are pushing Peacock out of the nest starting Wednesday, April 15, promising to unfurl a rich plume of 15,000-plus hours of streaming content, first for the cable giant’s own TV and internet customers.
Peacock is then slated to be available across the U.S. on July 15 — while NBCU is mulling the possibility of moving that up sooner — in various three tiers across mobile, web and connected-tv devices: paid with ads ($4.99 monthly); paid with no ads ($9.99 monthly); and completely free with ads with a truncated content lineup. With the national launch, Comcast (and Cox) subscribers also will have the option to get an ad-free version of the service for an additional $5 per month.
So what’s on the menu? Peacock will include live and on-demand content across current and past TV shows, movies, news, and late night programming, with some live sports once they resume post-pandemic. Most of...

In the old days, you would check in on an alien-visitation shlock-tv documentary (or an episode of “Unsolved Mysteries”) all to catch those grainy home-movie glimpses of alien spaceships. On that score, “Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind” is nothing less than an all-you-can-eat banquet of UFO porn. There are vintage clips of “sightings” shot in 8 and 16mm, but most of them are from the home-video and cell-phone-camera era, all tagged with important-sounding datelines.

One of the more bonkers films out of Fantastic Fest was Jack Henry Robbins’ celebration of VHS culture, VHYes (2019).
Shot entirely on VHS and Beta, the film takes place over a week in the life of 12-year-old Ralph (Mason McNulty) when his family gets a brand new camcorder for Christmas. Ralph is fascinated by their new acquisition, particularly when he learns that the camera can be connected to the TV to record television programming. He grabs the first tape he can find (which happens to be his parents’ wedding video) and sets to work documenting his crazy misadventures, as well as the wonders of 1980s cable TV.
The television portions are presented as a late-night channel surf, cutting back and forth between shows and grabbing the occasional commercial. It’s here that the film’s talented comedic cast really shines. From Thomas Lennon as an overenthusiastic QVC host to Kerri Kenney...

According to the official announcement of the move, the rebrand will “continue the mission of Escape,” which targets women 25 to 54 with true-crime-focused programming.
Escape is currently available in 103.5 million homes, or 94% of the U.S. TV footprint. Multicast networks, have become a burgeoning sector, emerging from the TV industry’s transition to high-definition signals several years ago, which unlocked new broadcast spectrum capacity.

As a sister network to Court TV, Court TV Mystery will feature a lineup of mainstays like The First 48, Forensic Files, American Greed, FBI Files, Crime Watch Daily and Unsolved Mysteries.
