Before he wrote such memorable lines as, "A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone" and "death is so terribly final, while life is full of possibilities," novelist George R.R. Martin helped pen another instantly quotable turn of phrase: "It's rock and roll, you dumb son of a b***h!"
This quote is hilarious on its own, but even funnier when put in context: it comes partway through a now-forgotten episode of a once-popular "Twilight Zone" reboot series that aired from 1985 to 1989. The speaker of the quote is Gary Pitkin (Jeff Yagher), a spot-on Elvis impersonator. The subject of his ridicule? It's the King himself, also played by Yagher in a time travel plot that sees the two men come face to face on the eve of Elvis' first studio session. It doesn't go well. The episode, "The Once and Future King," was written by Martin from a story by Bryce Maritano.

Holly Robinson Peete’s career is anchored by full-circle moments. So it’s pretty fitting that her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony is also pillared by a blast from the past.
“I got very emotional, and I thought about my mom driving me across the country when I was 9 years old from Philadelphia in search of a better life,” she tells Variety. “I thought of her becoming a personal manager and signing her first client, LeVar Burton. She was the Og momager and she is absolutely the reason why I’m getting this star.”
Fast forward to June 21 and Burton is one of the people speaking on Peete’s behalf when she receives that star. “I can’t wait to hear him speak on the 11-year-old Holly,” she adds.
Growing up, Peete was always around actors. Her mother, Dolores Robinson, represented clients including Martin Sheen, Pierce Brosnan, Wesley Snipes, Rosie Perez and Michael Clarke Duncan.

Since he first haunted the Palais Garnier opera house, The Phantom has captivated and chilled readers of Gaston Leroux's classic novel and viewers of its many film adaptations. The most memorable translation from page to screen is widely considered to be the first one, thanks in large part to Lon Chaney Sr.'s stunning, skeletal transformation into The Phantom. Nearly a century later, Black Heart Enterprises, LLC is celebrating the actor's iconic appearance in The Phantom of the Opera with a new life-size bust coming next year from Sideshow Collectibles.
Meticulously sculpted by Jeff Yagher, the new life-size bust of Lon Chaney Sr. is a detailed depiction of the actor as he appeared in the classic 1925 movie The Phantom of the Opera. Standing approximately 17 inches tall, the life-size bust gorgeously displays Chaney Sr.'s haunted expression under ghoulish makeup that forever cemented the tragic character in horror film history.

From Sideshow Collectibles: "He's got some family issues.
The meat business is pretty good, unless you're actually the meat. Sideshow's collection of classic horror villains grows by one with the introduction of the Leatherface Premium Format™ Figure. Many actors played Bram Stoker's iconic creature of the night on film, but Bela Lugosi memorably portrayed the bloodsucker on both the stage and screen, playing Dracula on Broadway in the late 1920s before donning the fangs for the classic 1931 film adaptation of Stoker's 1897 novel. Lugosi's version of Dracula is now further immortalized with an incredible new life-size bust from Sideshow Collectibles and Black Heart Enterprises.
Now available to pre-order for $599.99 and expected to ship this summer, Sideshow Collectibles and Black Heart Enterprises' life-size bust of Bela Lugosi's Dracula was authorized by Bela Lugosi Jr. and perfectly captures the entrancing blue eyes that have scared and thrilled viewers for the better part of a century. Teresa Wright: Later years (See preceding post: "Teresa Wright: From Marlon Brando to Matt Damon.") Teresa Wright and Robert Anderson were divorced in 1978. They would remain friends in the ensuing years.[1] Wright spent most of the last decade of her life in Connecticut, making only sporadic public appearances. In 1998, she could be seen with her grandson, film producer Jonah Smith, at New York's Yankee Stadium, where she threw the ceremonial first pitch.[2] Wright also became involved in the Greater New York chapter of the Als Association. (The Pride of the Yankees subject, Lou Gehrig, died of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in 1941.) The week she turned 82 in October 2000, Wright attended the 20th anniversary celebration of Somewhere in Time, where she posed for pictures with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. In March 2003, she was a guest at the 75th Academy Awards, in the segment showcasing Oscar-winning actors of the past. Two years later,...

Teresa Wright and Matt Damon in 'The Rainmaker' Teresa Wright: From Marlon Brando to Matt Damon (See preceding post: "Teresa Wright vs. Samuel Goldwyn: Nasty Falling Out.") "I'd rather have luck than brains!" Teresa Wright was quoted as saying in the early 1950s. That's understandable, considering her post-Samuel Goldwyn choice of movie roles, some of which may have seemed promising on paper.[1] Wright was Marlon Brando's first Hollywood leading lady, but that didn't help her to bounce back following the very public spat with her former boss. After all, The Men was released before Elia Kazan's film version of A Streetcar Named Desire turned Brando into a major international star. Chances are that good film offers were scarce. After Wright's brief 1950 comeback, for the third time in less than a decade she would be gone from the big screen for more than a year.

Johnny Depp rose to fame in the 1980s as a teenage heartthrob in the hit TV show "21 Jump Street." With the film version now in production, it is nice to hear that Depp has not forgotten what made him a big star.
The actor is set to make a cameo as a teacher! According to Life & Style Magazine, "Johnny makes a cameo as a teacher and he bumps into his 'old' character in the halls of the high school."
Aw...
Depp, of course, starred in the series as the lead detective Tom Hanson. It's interesting to note that on the pilot episode of the show, Jeff Yagher played the character but was replaced in the next episode by Depp. I wonder whatever happened to Yagher.
Jonah Hill co-wrote the script of the movie version and is also one of the stars. He promises that his take on "21 Jump Street" will appeal to the adult crowd.

In a departure from my long-standing and hopefully generally objective approach to genre journalism, in regard to this past weekend’s Monsterpalooza 3 (see our extensive photo gallery below), I’d like to comment, “Omfg this show is the most fucking amazing horror convention anyone has ever attended!”
Orchestrated by Eliot Brodsky, La’s premier horror convention Monsterpalooza ran April 8-10 at the Marriott Burbank Convention Center in Burbank, California, and, given the word of mouth generated by last year’s fantastic show, continued to increase its horrific momentum. The annual celebration of make-up effects again featured its fan-favorite monster museum, which showcased the practical works of dozens of fx artists, as well as a packed and extensive dealer room, in-depth makeup demonstrations, appearances by myriad notable artists (including Glenn Hetrick, Mike Hill, Jeff Yagher, David Whitford, The Chiodo Brothers, John Goodwin, Mike Westmore and dozens more) and the inclusion of...

The aliens have landed. Well, sort of. ABC is greenlighting a pilot for a new version of V. Back in the 1980s, the V miniseries spawned both a sequel, novels, and a short-lived TV show.
The original 1983 mini-series stars Jane Badler, Michael Durrell, Marc Singer, Jeff Yagher, Blair Tefkin, Robert Englund, and Faye Grant, and focuses on a race of friendly and helpful humanoid aliens that land on Earth. Referred to as "The Visitors," these aliens offer up their advanced technology in exchange for the chemicals and minerals their ailing world desperately needs. Unfortunately, they're not what they appear to be. Journalist Michael Donovan eventually discovers that the human-looking aliens are actually reptiles who prefer live meat. Before he can get the word out, the Visitors take control of the media and soonafter, the world.
