Amazon UK MD Chris Bird was among the latest group of industry execs to appear in front of the UK’s British Film & High-End TV Inquiry this afternoon, during which he revealed how much cash the streamer has invested in content from UK broadcasters for the first time.
“We have spent more than $400 million licensing, co-producing, and co-commissioning content from the UK Public Service Broadcasters,” Bird said. “Not only to make bigger and better shows but we’ve also helped produce everything from Steve McQueen’s Small Axe and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag to the recently announced second and third seasons of The Night Manager with the BBC.”
Deadline was first to break news of The Night Manager returning with Tom Hiddleston signed on to star.

Pauly Shore once again addressed his in-development Richard Simmons biopic that has become a hot topic.
“I’m also gonna be starring in the Richard Simmons biopic…whether he likes it or not, Richard,” Shore said at his Netflix Is a Joke show at the Comedy Store Friday night in Los Angeles. “Just another fucking bump in my fucking road.”
Shore’s hour-and-a-half comedy set recounted his life story with a particular focus on growing up in Los Angeles with parents Sammy Shore and Mitzi Shore who co-founded the Comedy Store.
While the bulk of the set detailed his childhood through to the time he spent on MTV and even at the Playboy Mansion, at the very end he jumped to the present to talk about his current life stage and achievements and to briefly address the ongoing biopic situation.
The comment comes after a string of social media back-and-forths...

It’s been over 40 years since the pioneering hip hop group Run-dmc formed in Hollis, Queens, but Darryl “Dmc” McDaniels insists, “I remember everything like it was yesterday.”
He appeared at Deadline’s Contenders Television: Documentary & Unscripted virtual event to discuss the Peacock docuseries Kings from Queens: The Run Dmc Story, which chronicles the group’s incredible achievements and influence. “We’re going back to 1980,” producer/EP William H. Masterson III said of the series, “when really hip hop was relatively small, and taking the viewer on a ride with these three young men from Queens that came together and really changed a lot — changed pop, changed fashion, changed music, changed race relations between white people and Black people.”

Pauly Shore said he “was up all night crying” due to Richard Simmons continuing to publicly distance himself from a biopic that would star Shore as the fitness guru.
“I just read that a man that I don’t know is writing my bio pic starring Pauly Shore,” Simmons wrote on his verified Facebook page earlier this week. “I do not approve this movie. I am in talks with major studios to create my own bio pic with some help. Wait for this movie.”
Simmons previously said that he was not involved with the biopic and didn’t give Shore “permission” for it, right after it was announced that a feature film about the fitness icon, backed by the Wolper Organization, was in development.
“You guys, I was up all night crying regarding Richard Simmons’ tweet,” Shore wrote on his Instagram Thursday. “Richard, how do you not approve of this movie?...

Like a sweaty workout routine, Pauly Shore‘s Richard Simmons biopic continues to gain momentum. The Wolper Organization says it’s hiring Jordan Allen-Dutton (Robot Chicken) to pen the screenplay. The biopic comes after the success of The Court Jester, a short film starring Shore as the fitness guru and sunny cheerleader for people struggling with weight control and self-esteem issues. The Court Jester sold out multiple screenings in Park City, Utah, earlier this year and gained over one million views on YouTube in 24 hours. While the project has some unfortunate vibes, the team continues to press on with development.
While details about the Richard Simmons biopic remain as scarce as a neon pink leotard up someone’s rear end at the climax of an aerobics routine, producer Mark Wolper says the project will be “a dramatic and heartfelt feature in the tone of Little Miss Sunshine.”

While the title of the film hasn’t yet been disclosed, nor specifics to the approach it’ll take in depicting the life of the famed fitness guru, producer Mark Wolper has shared that it will be “a dramatic and heartfelt feature in the tone of Little Miss Sunshine.” Shore came to the project after campaigning for years to play Simmons in a feature, given popular online opinion that no one resembles the fitness icon more than him. Kiss are the latest artists to sell off their music catalog — and, in this case, their well-known onstage personas and makeup — for big money.
The band — which closed out its (alleged) farewell tour in December 2023 — announced they have sold the rights to their music and imagery to Pophouse, the Swedish company that created the Abba Voyage hologram show and is working on a similar project involving Kiss.
While the price wasn’t revealed in a joint press release, Fortune reports that Kiss raked in upwards of $300 million in the sale.

Professional fitness coach Richard Simmons has apologized for a Facebook post that led some fans to believe he was dying.
Last month, the 75-year-old fitness guru shared a concerning post in the morning on Facebook. He said, “I am …. dying.”
He went on to write about death and living life to the fullest. In his post, he wrote, “Why am I telling you this? Because I want you to enjoy your life to the fullest every single day. Get up in the morning and look at the sky… count your blessings and enjoy.”
He continued to emphasize healthy habits. For instance, he talked about eating three meals a day.
“One healthy day of eating will lead to the next… and the next,” and then suggested dessert every “once in a while.”
He also advised his audience to stay active.
“Every day that you are alive you have got to move.

Having played J. Jonah Jameson in Marvel and Commissioner Gordon in DC, J.K. Simmons is no stranger to excelling in the comic book genre. And with Invincible, the Oscar-winner was once again allowed to spread his acting chops in the realm of superheroes, and unlike his live-action Cbm counterparts, Omni-Man was not bound by mortality.
But this isn’t the lone time the actor has voiced Cbm characters in animation, as prior to this series, the Whiplash Star had played two major DC villains in the acclaimed Justice League Unlimited.

The world of animation has literally no bounds. An animated show can be as brutal or violent as the creator’s imagination or as dreamy as Disney. J.K. Simmons knows this fact better than most since he voices the character of Omni-Man in the iconic animated TV show Invincible.
It is the belief of J.K. Simmons (and us too) that animations have no restraints. While talking about Invincible and how the character of Omni-Man is quite an iconic one, Simmons revealed that he hasn’t read ahead much in the source material. Staying true to its comic roots, Invincible has largely pivoted away from Omni-Man in its second season. After nearly beating his son to death in Season One, the J.K. Simmons-led character undergoes an emotional journey and finds his new home in Thraxa after saving their people from a black hole.
However, the character has remained largely absent in Season Two since the show’s premiere after getting gravely injured while battling the Viltrumites alongside his son and is ultimately taken into custody. Reflecting on his little appearance this season, Simmons elaborated on the character’s future moving forward.

The Story: It is the future (like say – 1989). Robots are now commonplace, being used for everything from manual labor to childcare. But, robots go bad and when they do, the LAPD calls in Sgt. Jack R. Ramsay (Tom Selleck), an expert in so-called “Runaways”. When a madman (Gene Simmons) invents a microchip that turns all robots into runaways, Ramsay, and his new partner (Cynthia Rhodes) must put a stop to his evil plan – the fate of the world just may depend on it! Oh, and also Ramsay is afraid of heights. Trust me, that’s important.
The Players: Starring: Tom Selleck, Cynthia Rhodes, Kirstie Alley, G. W. Bailey and Gene Simmons. Written and directed by Michael Crichton.
The History: While most famous for his novels, Michael Crichton actually had a decent Hollywood career as a director, having a couple of solid hits under his belt by the time 1984 rolled around.

Meanwhile, Berle hosted SNL on April 14, 1979, and Ornette Coleman was his musical guest. It’s unclear where Berle fits into Reitman’s movie at this moment in time.

Howard Stern said on Monday that he’d love to have exercise guru Richard Simmons on his show to “get to the bottom” of why he dropped out of sight. But so far, Simmons has turned down his invites.
The “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” star, who hasn’t made a public appearance since 2013, alarmed fans last week when a tweet of his implied he was dying. The 75-year-old later clarified that his tweet was not to be taken literally and that he was in good health (since everyone is technically always one day closer to their inevitable death).
After Stern discussed the incident, his producer Gary Dell’Abate said he’d been corresponding with Simmons, who is a friend.
“I wrote to Richard, not for airtime for the radio, and I’m not gonna talk about what we discussed, but I did confirm that I was corresponding with him. Because, you know,...

In Jon Watts' 2019 film "Spider-Man: Far from Home," Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is tempted to cede control of a newly-bequeathed orbital missile network to an alleged interdimensional traveler nicknamed Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). Mysterio mentions that he's a superhero from a parallel timeline and that Earth is only now starting to reach into other dimensions. Mysterio's story will later prove to be a lie, yet the notion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe multiverse was implanted in people's minds (building off its brief mention in "Doctor Strange").
That multiverse idea was then hammered home in the film's epilogue. After the day was saved and Mysterio was defeated, Spider-Man's secret identity was brazenly revealed on international TV by none other than J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons), a character not seen since Sam Raimi's 2007 film "Spider-Man 3." Raimi's films, it should be noted, are in a separate continuity from the MCU "Spider-Man" movies.

On Tuesday morning, renowned fitness personality Richard Simmons opened up about his experience with skin cancer and detailed the emotional journey from diagnosis to treatment.
Simmons, who had previously alarmed fans with a post that said he was dying, revealed that he noticed a persistent blemish beneath his eye and decided to consult a dermatologist.
After a microscopic examination of the affected cells, the doctor informed Simmons that he had basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer associated with sun exposure.
Simmons, initially taken aback by the diagnosis, shared his lighthearted response to the doctor’s use of the “C word” to turn the point into a brief moment of laughter amidst the seriousness.
Basal cell carcinoma typically requires the removal of cancerous cells, and Simmons sought the expertise of Dr. Ralph A. Massey, a specialist in cancer treatment. Simmons said, “There was no numbing, it just had...

Since the February 2nd episode of Friday Night SmackDown, The Rock has made a return to WWE programming, hinting at his regular appearances leading up to WrestleMania 40. His ongoing feud with Cody Rhodes implies that The Great One will play a significant role in WWE in the coming weeks. With that said, there was also a time when The Great One refused to travel with his old tag team partner, due to one big reason.
The Rock
Fans are eagerly anticipating a potential showdown between The Rock and Roman Reigns, but there’s also a collective desire to ensure that Cody Rhodes’ storyline isn’t overshadowed. Initially, there were concerns about this imbalance, but a more balanced approach has been adopted. As a result, there has been a shift in the trajectory of WrestleMania 40’s storyline. However, fans are now genuinely enjoying the direction it has taken, especially after the initial backlash.

In 1992, comic book writer and artist Todd McFarlane created a new superhero character called Spawn. Five years later, director Mark A.Z. Dippé and screenwriter Alan B. McElroy brought Spawn to the screen in a PG-13 rated movie that didn’t go over well with a lot of fans. There were rumblings of a sequel for years after that, but nothing ever happened. Back around 2005, McFarlane announced he was going to make sure a new Spawn movie was going to be made, even if he had to produce, direct, and finance it himself. For nearly twenty years, he has been slowly pushing that project forward… but there is some level of hope that we might finally see the new Spawn sometime in 2025, so we figured we should put together a list of Everything We Know About the Spawn Reboot.

Richard Simmons is opening up about his experience being diagnosed with skin cancer.
In a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday, Simmons reflected on the time he found a “strange looking bump” under his right eye which made him book an appointment with his dermatologist.
He wrote, “I sat in his chair and he looked at it through a magnifying mirror. He told me he would have to scrape it and put it under the microscope. Now I am getting a little bit nervous. He comes back about 20 minutes later and says the C word. You have cancer. I asked him what kind of cancer and he said. Basel Cell Carcinoma. I told him to stop calling me dirty names. He laughed.”

Just days after Richard Simmons alarmed fans with a misguided “I’m dying” Facebook post – he isn’t – the former fitness guru now says he has recently been treated for skin cancer, specifically the burning off of a basal cell carcinoma on his face.
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer and highly treatable. With proper care, the prognosis, according to the Cleveland Clinic, is “excellent.”
In a Facebook post yesterday, Simmons, who had noticed “this strange looking bump under my right eye,” detailed his doctor visits and treatment. After being told by his doctor that he’d need to see a “cancer doctor,” Simmons made the recommended follow-up appointment.
“I waited in his waiting room and said hello to all of these people who had skin cancer as well,” Simmons writes. “I was shocked to see all of the skin cancers that they had. Some...

After 20 seasons, “Top Chef” has gone through some significant changes. Most notably, former champion Kristen Kish replaces longtime host Padma Lakshmi for Season 21, which also introduces its first major twist — at least since the introduction of redemption with “Last Chance Kitchen” — to the overall gameplay in two decades.
“It was a great opportunity for us to take a look at what we’ve done for the first two decades and start thinking about the next two decades,” Ryan Flynn, SVP of Current Production for NBCUniversal Entertainment and Streaming, told IndieWire. “With Padma moving on, it really felt like a great exclamation point” on that period of the franchise.
With “Top Chef” Season 21, which sees Kish join returning judges Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons for the installment set in Wisconsin, there was an opportunity to “sort of shake the rhythm a little bit” and “challenge ourselves to step outside of the...

For a reclusive figure, Richard Simmons sure has had a public 2024 so far. First it was blasting Pauly Shore’s portrayal of him in the short film The Court Jester – apparently some sort of dream project for The Weasel – and now he is trying to convince people that he is in fact not lunging towards death’s door.
Richard Simmons drew concern from his social media followers when he wrote, in part, “I have some news to tell you. Please don’t be sad. I am ….dying. Oh I can see your faces now. Released back in 2016 and starring Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, John Lithgow, and Jean Smart, The Accountant was a major hit for Affleck and director Gavin O’Connor. The movie successfully combined Affleck’s autistic accountant, Christian Wolff, with an action-filled storyline that had both fans and critics praising the movie. J.K. Simmons has embodied as well as voiced a considerable number of renowned characters, and that of Omni-Man in the Invincible saga still ranks as one of his best ones to date. Yet as much as fans love his voice behind the character in their favorite superhero animated series, Simmons isn’t willing to reprise his role in a live-action project.

Instead, the 69-year-old actor strongly believes he could be a much better option to play one other character; one more inclined to the supervillain panel than his current character. And as much as fans want him to reprise his role, they also can’t help but admit that his playing a supervillain wouldn’t be a far reach for him either.

J.K. Simmons, the voice actor of Omni-Man in Robert Kirkman’s Prime Video animated superhero series, has announced his top pick for the role of the Viltrumite in the Invincible live-action movie that’s still under development.
Fans have continued to throw names into the mix of actors to embody the title character and his father in the film since the announcement of the big-screen adaptation in 2017.

And now, courtesy of Simmons, we have another potential candidate, who the 69-year-old believes would be a proper fit for Nolan Grayson. That someone is none other than X-Men star Hugh Jackman. With ample experience in the superhero genre and enough gravitas to qualify for the complex role, Jackman’s foray into the Invincible world wouldn’t seem far-fetched or unrealistic.

Backlash surrounding Meghan Markle and Prince Harry continues. A reporter agrees with Spotify executive Bill Simmons, who once called the couple “grifters,” saying that Meghan and Harry’s new website motto should be “all grift, no duty.”
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are still ‘grifters’ claims reporter
The New York Post reporter Kirsten Fleming shared her opinion regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal fame without ties. She writes, “Theirs is a solid strategy for amassing personal wealth — and ensuring they always have a ride to the next glitzy concert, movie premiere, or charity dinner to pick up yet another empty award.”
As working royals, the couple were tasked with rules regarding gifts. The House of Windsor does not allow any royal family members to accept free items, as it would place them under obligation to the donor.

Russell Simmons has been sued for defamation for allegedly trying to undermine sexual assault accusations made against him.
Drew Dixon, a former Def Jam Recordings executive who alleges she was raped by the music mogul in 1995, claims in a lawsuit filed on Thursday in New York’s state Supreme Court that Simmons engaged in a “concerted and malicious campaign to discredit” her with the aim of undercutting her rape accusations. Among other statements, Simmons said in an interview on a podcast in December, “Could someone want notoriety in the market where people thirst for fame” and “I’ve never been forceful in any of my relationships,” all of which were “consensual.”
The complaint was filed on the heels of another suit against Simmons for sexual assault and battery from an ex-executive at the label he cofounded, who sued as a Jane Doe.
