"Love is the only thing that can heal, Jimmy." Wildcard Distribution has unveiled an official trailer for an acclaimed, award-winning Irish film titled Redemption of a Rogue, opening in the UK in August. It won the Best Irish Film award at the Galway Film Fleadh last year. Described as a "bible, black comedy [musical] about a prodigal son returning to his hometown to seek salvation for his sins." Redemption of a Rogue follows Jimmy, played by Aaron Monaghan, on his road to redemption after returning to his hometown of Cavan. Stuck in a Groundhog Day-like purgatory, Jimmy embarks on a sacrificial and outlandish journey to rid himself of his guilt and shame from the past, ultimately redeeming himself through love. This also stars Aisling O'Mara, Kieran Roche, Liz Fitzgibbon, Kevin McGahern, & Pat McCabe. Looks like a great discovery and very clever take on redemption. Worth a watch - hopefully this will get a US release soon,...

Colin MacCabe on shooting Berger: "John absolutely refused to plan things." Photo: Anne-Katrin Titze
Author, artist, self-declared storyteller John Berger is the focus of the intricately woven strands that make up The Seasons In Quincy: Four Portraits Of John Berger. Produced by The Derek Jarman Lab as a quartet of individual film essays, directed by Tilda Swinton, Christopher Roth, Bartek Dziadosz and Colin MacCabe, the combination allows for fascinating interplay of concerns.
On the opening day in New York, Colin MacCabe and I had a conversation that led from Berger's kitchen to Ken Loach's I, Daniel Blake, The Spectre Of Hope on Sebastião Salgado, Chris Marker, Neil Jordan collaborator Patrick McCabe, Isaac Julien, Roland Barthes, Jacques Derrida, Martin Heidegger, the editing by Christopher Roth and the cinematography of Bartek Dziadosz, apples, raspberries and cows, Brexit and Northern Ireland.

Pondling Written by Genevieve Hulme-Beaman Directed by Paul Meade Gúna Nua and Ramblinman 59E59 Theaters, NYC September 8-October 4, 2015
Of all the chores on her grandfather's farm, Madeleine particularly loves crushing cans. She especially enjoys those cans that put up a bit of resistance right at the end, admiring how they fight the inevitable. Her satisfaction in dispatching cans contrasts with those times when she must hold the flashlight while her brother and grandfather feed the cows: at these times, she knows that her task is essentially a ploy to keep her from feeling useless, an insight that speaks to her relative isolation in Genevieve Hulme-Beaman's Pondling, part of New York City's annual 1st Irish Festival.
Of course, it is likely that Madeleine, played by Hulme-Beaman herself, is not actually our protagonist's name. She likes to introduce herself as Madeleine Humbel Buttercup, pronounced with a French accent, one part of her campaign of self-fashioning.

It’s the game no one wants to play in. Ultimately it doesn’t mean much; it is just a badge, to finish on a high despite the looming shadow of Sunday’s Final reminding those involved of what could have been. But on Friday one of these sides will be deemed “third best team in the world”.
On paper it doesn’t sound bad, being third best considering there are plenty more teams below you in the pecking order. But the wounds are still too raw either both teams to appreciate that fact, the healing effect of time yet to be given a chance to soothe.
Both sides could feasibly have been playing two days later and both will feel aggrieved not to be there. The Welsh arguably have a greater justification to be annoyed, given the performance they put in against the French considering they went an hour...

Richie McCaw’s metatarsal and Dan Carter’s groin have occupied the minds of many New Zealanders recently, with more men than women thinking about the latter than is typical.
Luck was not something that smiled on the All Blacks in the last couple of weeks, highlighted by the loss of two fly half’s in a week, with Colin Slade suffering almost the same groin injury as the man he was understudying. Such is there fear of anything happening to 3rd choice Aaron Cruden he has been banned from his favourite past time of skateboarding.
To add injury to insult, Mils Muliaina fractured his shoulder last week in what was his 100th All Black appearance. But injury equals opportunity, and Stephen Donald and Hosea Gear are the chosen ones and who knows, they could be the next ones to “do a Priestland”

- “Oh, serious, serious, serious!” Patrick “Kitten” Brady Few years after the forgettable The Good Thief , Neil Jordan comes back in perfect shape for what can be easily considered his best film since The Butcher Boy. As delirious and exuberant as it is sincere and moving, Breakfast on Pluto is an extreme, uncompromising exaltation of the power of imagination. Welcome to the glamorous, desperate life of Patrick "Kitten" Brady, an Irish child born from an illegitimate love affair between a priest and his maid, “sold” into adoption to a greedy widow, and matured with two great desires: to become a woman and to finally meet his real mother, who ran away to London soon after Patrick’s birth in search of fortune.
