Laurence Fishburne and Sam Rockwell will return to Broadway this spring in a revival of David Mamet’s American Buffalo, lead producers Jeffrey Richards, Steve Traxler and Stephanie P. McClelland announced today.
Directed by frequent Mamet collaborator Neil Pepe, American Buffalo will begin previews in March 2020 with an official opening on Tuesday, April 14. The theater has not been announced.
Fishburne, last on Broadway in 2008’s one-man play Thurgood, will play the character Donny. Rockwell, returning to Broadway after 2014’s Fool For Love by Sam Shepard, will play Teach.
The duo’s casting leaves the play’s third character, Bobby, as yet unfilled or unannounced.
After Chicago and Off Broadway productions in 1975 and ’76, American Buffalo premiered on Broadway in 1977, with Ulu Grosbard directing Robert Duvall as Teach and Kenneth McMillan as Donny. John Savage played Bobby. In a 1981 Off Broadway production at Circle in the Square starred Al Pacino, Thomas Waites and Clifton James.

Exclusive: Copper comes from Arizona, and Peaches from Georgia, but if we had to rewrite the lyrics to the Blossom Dearie standard “Rhode Island is Famous For You,” you can add film production to the latter 1,214 square mile sized state. Much of that has to do with producer Chad A. Verdi who over the last eight years has pumped out 20 features with notable homegrown titles like 2016’s Bleed for This and the upcoming Grindstone Entertainment Group/Lionsgate crime pic Vault, both which shine a spotlight on his native Rhode Island.
Vault is one of six projects that Verdi has in his 2019-2020 pipeline, which also includes Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Netflix movie The Irishman this fall. The pic reps Verdi’s fifth film with The Departed Oscar-winning director and producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff. Delivering familiar bromides with fresh brio, Green Book is an altogether pleasant and very entertaining trip back in time that is more relevant than ever. More than anything else in the career of director Peter Farrelly, it reminds me of Outside Providence (1999), a warm and affectionate comedy-drama about a young working-class man from Rhode Island who gets sent to a private academy for his senior year of high school. Set in the 1970s, it was based on a novel by Peter Farrelly, who cowrote the screenplay and produced with his brother Bobby Farrelly and Michael Corrente, who directed. Outside Providence is a minor work but a funny, likable effort. The Farrelly Brothers had cleaned up with broad, outrageous comedies earlier in the decade --...

Determined to find the lock it matches, the boy embarks on a Picaresque odyssey across New York City. Director Stephen Daldry and screenwriter Eric Roth have fashioned a film both grand and intimate, beautifully-adapted from Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel, thought by most who read it to be unfilmable. Fine support from Jeffrey Wright, Sandra Bullock, John Goodman, Viola Davis and the great Max von Sydow. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Featurettes. Widescreen. However, thanks to Facinelli’s itch to write, we get Loosies and even though Facinelli’s writing is average, it really shows he’s an incredibly talented actor. He seems to have some ability in the writing department, but now I’m more excited for The Twilight Saga to come to a close so Facinelli can sink his teeth into some meatier roles. Coming off the Twilight series, actor Peter Facinelli is trying his hand in the writing game with Loosies. His screenplay debut is directed Michael Corrente (American Buffalo) and comes out of nowhere, as it is currently on VOD and hitting theaters early next year. Facinelli plays a NYC pickpocket that runs into trouble with some news from a past girlfriend. The low-budget feel is clear, but the plot is somewhat intriguing. With a supporting cast that includes Vincent Gallo, Michael Madsen, Joe Pantoliano, and Thor‘s Jaimie Alexander, it could be worth checking out to see if Facinelli has any talent with the pen. "My kid's father steals out of old lady's handbags." Today's fun trailer is for an indie drama called Loosies, starring and written by Peter Facinelli, who plays a New York pickpocket (we've had ballerinas, spies, musicians, taxi drivers, now a pickpocket?) that learns he got a girl pregnant, which then flips his world upside, of course. Jaimie Alexander from Thor, who I must admit is absolutely beautiful and talented as all hell, also stars as the girl, Lucy, in this. Michael Madsen, Vincent Gallo and Joe Pantoliano are in it, too. This doesn't look half bad coming out of nowhere, I'm intrigued, give it a shot anyway. Watch below! The awesome Peter Facinelli had some very good luck at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff). Peter’s new movie, Loosies, has found a Us home in IFC and should get a release date in December. Read more below:
IFC is picking up U.S. rights to drama “Loosies,” starring Peter Facinelli (“Twilight”) and Jaimie Alexander (“Thor”), and plans a December release.
“Loosies,” shot last summer, centers on a successful pickpocket in New York City who roams the city disguised as a stockbroker — until confronted with a recent one-night stand who tells him she’s pregnant with his child. Facinelli penned the script five years ago as an homage to New York, with the ideas coming to him as he walked the streets.
Project was produced by Chad A. Verdi of Verdi Prods. along with Facinelli, Noah Kraft and Glenn Ciano. Michael Madsen, Vincent Gallo and Joe Pantoliano also star with Michael Corrente (“American Buffalo”) directing.
Cmg is selling foreign rights at Toronto and held a screening for buyers Thursday. Facinelli told Variety prior to the screening that he was inspired by several prominent films: “Midnight Cowboy,” “The Sting” and “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”

Dr. Carlisle Cullen could pick our pocket any day.
Peter Facinelli, everyone's favorite vampire dad, plays a New York City thief and con artist who's forced to rethink his carefree lifestyle when he's suddenly confronted with impending fatherhood in the new crime comedy, "Loosies."
Facinelli also makes his feature screenwriting debut with the film, which sports a pretty amazing cast. We were already impressed with seeing the likes of Michael Madsen, William Forsythe and even Vincent Gallo in the trailer, but the late appearance of Joe Pantoliano tops them all (of course).
The plot starts off a little like "Miami Blues" (remember that one?), with Facinelli stealing Madsen's badge and going on a cop-impersonation spree (however, as far as we can tell, Madsen doesn't have his fake teeth stolen as well, unlike poor Fred Ward in "Blues"). And then one of Facinelli's one-night stands (Jaimie Alexander) shows up and things get a bit more complicated.

David O. Russell is sure having fun discussing what projects he could direct post-Oscar nominated for The Fighter, but he doesn’t seem all that desperate to actually get anything in front of camera’s. He’s become something of the master of first dates, a guy who initially shows interest in a long commitment only to rarely call back and he certainly never takes his date home.
Vulture reports that O. Russell has become interested in directing yet another project, this time a biopic of long-time former Providence, Rhode Island mayor Buddy Cianci who held office for a whopping 21 years in two lengthy separate terms. Acting is not the only gig in Peter Facinelli's Hollywood portfolio. He's also a screenwriter, and it seems that a lot of his written works are now picking up speed.

Peter Facinelli has hopped on board a pretty reliable gravy train as paterfamilias Carlisle Cullen in the Twilight films, but even if that's treating him better than playing Mike Dexter in Can't Hardly Wait did, he still probably needs another option to keep the lights on. So he's going the route of plenty of actors who see their time as professional pretty boys running out: he's writing. Facinelli has written the script The Loosies and found Michael Corrente to direct it, with Variety reporting that Vincent Gallo and Michael Madsen have also hopped on board. Facinelli will also play the main character, a criminal somehow making a successful living as a pickpocket but derailed with an old fling shows up pregnant with his child. Gallo and Madsen's roles aren't specified, but both have proven pretty good at playing bad-guy types in the past, so don't be surprised to see them...

Now that The Twilight Saga has reinvigorated his career, Peter Facinelli, also known as Dr. Carlisle Cullen, is stretching his cinematic reach and writing his own gigs. Variety reports that the actor has penned a new film called Loosies, which will put him alongside the likes of Michael Madsen and Vincent Gallo. Michael Corrente (Outside Providence) will direct when production kicks off next month.
Facinelli will star as "a successful pickpocket living the outlaw lifestyle until confronted with an old one-night stand who tells him that she's pregnant with his child." If the IMDb cast list is right, it looks like the one-night stand could be played by his real-life wife Jennie Garth. As for Madsen and Gallo, there's no word on what sort of characters they'll play, but considering the subject matter, I think it's fair to say that they're a part of the pickpocket's "outlaw lifestyle."

It’s been a long time since we heard anything about the Scare Ri screenwriting contest we first told you about way back in September of 2007. So long, in fact, that I was beginning to wonder if anything were going to come of it at all...
Turns out that yes, indeed, the project is still happening! The contest, which was sponsored by director/producer and Providence, Ri local celebrity Michael Corrente (Showtime’s “Brotherhood”, Brooklyn Rules), saw hundreds pitch their ideas for a horror film, which was then whittled down to 58 who actually had to produce a script, then down to 19 that were good enough, finally settling on Carl V. Dupre’s Shift Change as the winner!
The winning script was announced just before Halloween by the Providence Journal, which may explain why we’re just now seeing it (thanks to the Rasmussen Brothers, whose Skeleton Crew script is another...

- Americans love to hate politicians. Better yet, they love to love to hate them. However, most Americans overlook the politics of Rhode Island. Michael Corrente's based-on-a-book-based-on-a-true-story The Price of Providence appeals to the great American dream of watching a politician rise, fall, rise again, and fall even further, and Rhode Islanders will finally get the cinematic recognition they surely crave. Oliver Platt is set to star as the scandalous Buddy Cianci Jr.Co-written by David Mamet and Howard Korder, the film is about the corrupt ex-mayor, Vincent "Buddy" Cianci Jr. who was part urban visionary, part Tony Soprano – a flawed political genius in the mold of Huey Long and James Michael Curley. His lust for power cost him his marriage, his family, and close friendships. Yet he also revitalized the city of Providence, where ethnic factions jostle with old-moneyed New Englanders and black-clad artists from the Rhode Island

Director Michael Corrente and producer Marisa Polvino are corralling the cast for their political biopic The Prince of Providence.
Robin Williams is in talks to join Dermot Mulroney, Adam Goldberg, Bradley Cooper, Ed Burns and Oliver Platt, who will play charismatic and corrupt Providence, R.I., Mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci. Williams' participation will depend on scheduling issues to be determined. Steven Soderbergh has lent his name to present the production.
David Mamet, with a script polish by Howard Korder, adapted Michael Stanton's eponymous 2003 book about the man who dominated Providence's political machine for 21 years. The drama chronicles a roller-coaster series of ups and downs for one of America's longest-serving mayors.
Corrente will produce alongside Polvino (The Door in the Floor). The Collective's Shaun Redick will executive produce and rep the film's North American sales. Principal photography is set to begin late this summer in Rhode Island.
Corrente has a long relationship with Mamet, having directed a big-screen adaptation of his play American Buffalo starring Dustin Hoffman in 1996.

City Lights Media Group has acquired North American distribution rights to the dramatic thriller "Brooklyn Rules", starring Alec Baldwin, City Lights CEO Danny Fisher said Friday. Directed by Michael Corrente and written by Terence Winter, the film, set in 1985, tells the story of three lifelong friends in the mob world. Freddie Prinze Jr., Mena Suvari, Scott Caan and Jerry Ferrara also star in the movie, set for a late spring release.
According to Australia's Daily Telegraph, Russell Crowe is in talks to topline the indie biopic The Prince of Providence. The Cinderella Man star reportedly made calls to director Michael Corrente expressing interest in portraying notorious American politician Vincent "Buddy" Cianci, who served as mayor of Providence, Rhode Island for more than two decades before ultimately facing federal criminal charges of racketeering, conspiracy, extortion, witness tampering, and mail fraud. Adapted from Mike Stanton's book of the same name, Corrente will produce the project through his New York-based production company, Iridium Entertainment. Crowe is currently filming the crime drama Tenderness for director John Polson.

"A Shot at Glory" is a straightforward sports movie that treats its audience to ample amounts of soccer action while keeping its characters and narration as simple as possible. Filming in several stadiums with as many as 10 cameras rolling at once, the film captures the excitement this sport generates among its fans. A pet project for producer-star Robert Duvall, who recruited Denis O'Neill to pen the script, "Glory" is directed by Michael Corrente with an eye to establishing a Scottish blue-collar environment and the passion many of its citizens feel for soccer.
Made more than two years ago and languishing on the shelf since its debut at the 2000 Toronto International Film Festival, "Glory" is now getting a shot at theatrical glory beginning with a limited release in six Southwestern cities from newly formed MAC Releasing. The film should attract sports fans as well as fans of Duvall. Overseas, where soccer fanaticism is rampant, the film is an even surer bet. (The film has already played in the United Kingdom, where it did well.) Nor does it hurt that Scottish soccer great Ally McCoist makes a lively acting debut with the movie.
Duvall plays Gordon McLeod, the manager of a Second Division team in a tiny seaside town in Scotland that hasn't won a championship in 100 years. With such a limited fan base, the team's American owner, Peter Cameron (Michael Keaton), is eyeing a move to Dublin, Ireland, to add value to his investment.
Meanwhile, Peter hires a former First Division superstar, striker Jackie McQuillan (McCoist), willfully ignoring the fact that booze and womanizing have brought down not only Jackie's career but also his marriage to Gordon's daughter, Kate (Kirsty Mitchell). Earning more money than the rest of the team combined and still beholden to his errant ways, Jackie nevertheless inspires a winning streak that carries the lightly regarded team into the Scottish Cup finals. The proposition then becomes simple: If the team beats the Glasgow Rangers -- against almost impossible odds -- Peter will allow it to remain in its hometown.
There are only two real conflicts in the movie: between Gordon and his spoiled son-in-law and then between Gordon and his own daughter, whom he has never forgiven for marrying Jackie. There is a nominal villain in Brian Cox's Martin Smith, the Rangers' manager and a onetime mate of Gordon who long ago betrayed him. But Martin pops up too late in the movie to generate any sparks.
Mostly, the movie exists for its soccer action and its fine acting. Duvall's Gordon is a man who treasures his betrayals. He nurtures wounds with righteous pride and wears disdain for those who inflict them as if it were the finest silk. In his first role ever, McCoist displays such a friendly, amiable manner he could easily continue in acting if he so desired. Mitchell and Morag Hood ably play the two long-suffering women of Gordon's life -- his daughter and wife. Oda Schuster is most amusing as the team's aging locker room assistant, who seemingly performs all chores that do not involve kicking a ball.
Alex Thomson's cinematography is first-rate, and Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits) provides the Scottish-accented music, which nicely punctuates the action and occasional moments of drama.

Who knew? Then again, it makes perfect sense.
Director Michael Corrente's previous films, including "Federal Hill" and "American Buffalo", have dug into the grit of blue-collar environments to understand the rites and rituals of male camaraderie. And the Farrelly brothers' wacky comedies are, at their very core, studies of intellectually challenged, lower-class males who triumph against all odds in the pursuit of outrageous goals.
So perhaps it should surprise no one that "Outside Providence" -- Corrente's film that he wrote and produced with the Farrellys based on Peter Farrelly's first novel -- is such a pleasure. The Miramax release could become a sleeper hit, but this will require careful marketing. Any promotion exploiting the Farrelly brothers might bring in the wrong crowd or at least disappoint those expecting "Dumb & Dumber II."
Not that the film lacks for jokes about excessive drug taking, gross practical jokes, a three-legged dog and a youth whose dad calls him "Dildo". But at its heart, this comedy is an affecting and sometimes sentimental coming-of-age tale about a slacker, 1970s style, from Pawtucket, R.I., who is thrust into a tony prep school.
Shawn Hatosy is outstanding as Tim Dunphy, a 17-year-old who is often his own worst enemy. Like the pals he hangs out with in Pawtucket, Tim has smoked enough dope and downed enough booze in his young life to have killed more than a few brain cells.
His latest scrape with the law forces his old man -- played by a disheveled Alec Baldwin -- to pack him off to Cornwall Academy. There he runs afoul of the dorm master (Timothy Crowe), surrounds himself with a new group of druggies and boozers and, astonishingly, wins the heart of Jane Weston (Amy Smart), the coolest girl in the school.
Corrente lets the audience empathize with Tim but not always sympathize. Many of his scrapes are entirely avoidable, and the upper-class milieu doesn't have the positive effect on him it should. Indeed, it's his blossoming romance with Jane that finally makes him discover the value of study.
Nothing in "Outside Providence" hasn't been examined in countless coming-of-age movies. But Rhode Island locales make much of this feel fresh, and the character work by a mostly young cast, aided by a couple of old Hollywood pros, invigorate the familiar story.
Hatosy's astute performance is winningly supported by Baldwin as Old Man Dunphy and Tony Bone as Tim Younger,'s wheelchair-using brother. (Tim explains his brother's damaged body as being the result of a touch football game where his brother fell off the roof, a line that perfectly captures the pain behind many of the film's laughs.)
Among many in the outstanding cast are Jon Abrahams as the aptly named Drugs Delaney; Jack Ferver as Tim's roomie, who struggles against the memory of ego-deflating hazing; Gabriel Mann as a mendacious upper-class student; and George Wendt as Old Man Dunphy's card-playing pal who has his own secret life.
The various plot threads, including revelations about the death of Tim's mother, all get tied up a bit too neatly in the end. The film suffers from some nostalgic gloss in which the laughs are funnier and the bad things are much less sad than they probably were.
The nostalgia gets reinforced by a lively soundtrack of 1970s hits such as "Band on the Run", "Take It Easy" and "Won't Get Fooled Again".
But realism is not what Corrente and the Farrellys, all native Rhode Islanders, are after. Rather, they are comically contemplating a past that abounded with youthful opportunities, some seized and others lost forever.
