A small group of advertisers were serenaded by Metallica’s Master of Puppets (one of those songs that Stranger Things brought to a new generation) as they walked into Netflix’s first in-person Upfront.

It comes as the streamer unveiled a number of new series and films including a new Kevin Williamson drama, a bull riding drama starring Tim McGraw and a slew of sports docs as well as more episodes of 3 Body Problem.
Shonda Rhimes kicked things off, talking up her move from ABC to Netflix, saying that she’s doing things that can’t always be done on broadcast television. “The definition of a Netflix show is one that people like to watch,” she said before introducing a sneak peek of Bridgerton’s third season,...

Welcome to Nobody Wants This — a very, very good place brought to you by Erin Foster. The comedy stars Golden Globe nominee Kristen Bell and SAG nominee Adam Brody as Joanne and Noah, an unlikely pair that are bound to make you giggle. The first photo from the series (above) proves the duo will also make you swoon. If the romance feels real, that’s because it was inspired by Foster’s own love story.

Casting Chris Pratt as Star-Lord was a pretty big gamble for Marvel. After all, to most of us he was the man-child Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation and nothing more. Fortunately for Pratt and the MCU, director James Gunn saw something special in him. While a number of actors also auditioned for the part, one who still remembers that moment and why he didn’t land Peter Quill is Joel Edgerton, who is well aware he just didn’t understand the tone they were going for.
Appearing on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast (via Variety), Joel Edgerton remembered Guardians of the Galaxy being one of the most high-profile projects he missed out on, probably for good reason. “Star-Lord’s a good one, actually, because I, unlike Chris [Pratt], didn’t quite sort of understand the tone of it the way he did and the way that those guys did. Chris Pine Addresses “Emotionally Incapacitating” Acne That Kept Him From Landing Role in ‘The O.C.’
Chris Pine is opening up about not landing the role of Ryan Atwood in The O.C. due to his bad acne at the time.
In Welcome to The O.C.: An Oral History, which was released in honor of the show’s 20th anniversary, casting director Patrick Rush revealed that the Star Trek star did not get the lead part in the Fox show because of his skin problems.
During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast ahead of the release of Pine’s directorial debut, Poolman, host Josh Horowitz asked him if bringing up how he lost the role due to his acne was Ptsd or a sour point for him.
“No — I mean, it’s a part of my life. Look, do I wish…? The man didn’t have to talk about it. I mean, it’s his prerogative,” the Wonder Woman star said. “I...

Joel Edgerton has been in Star Wars and the series Obi-Wan Kenobi, so he is versed in sci-fi.
But he failed his audition for the role of Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy. He says the reason for that is not understanding the film’s tone.

“Star-Lord’s a good one, actually, because I, unlike Chris, didn’t quite sort of understand the tone of it the way he did and the way that those guys did,” he said. “And I wasn’t really sure how I could be a part of that tone.”

Joel Edgerton revealed on The Playlist’s “Bingeworthy” podcast that he failed his audition for Star Lord in “Guardians of the Galaxy” because he just couldn’t nail down the tone writer-director James Gunn was looking for. Grace Caroline Currey has joined the cast of “The Breed,” and is set to lead the film. Directed by brothers Nathan and Griff Furst, the film is an “unconventional reimagining of the Wes Craven cult classic.” The brothers will produce together through their company, Curmudgeon Films.
The film centers around Currey’s character Violet, “a rebel icon and badass on a mission to search for abandoned dogs on a remote island which leads to complete adrenaline-fueled terror.”
Currey most recently starred in Lionsgate’s adventure thriller, “Fall,” directed by Scott Mann. The film follows two daredevil climbers, Becky (Currey) and Hunter (Virginia Gardner), who decide to scale the B67 TV tower — an abandoned 2,000-foot communication tower that juts up in the middle of the California desert.

“Ready or Not” directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin are ready for their horror movie’s sequel — and they say the new script is a masterpiece.
The collaborators and producing partner Chad Villella (aka Radio Silence as a trio) told Entertainment Weekly in an interview out Monday that they’ve been working on “Ready or Not 2” since the original came out in 2019. Plus, it sounds like they’ve got an “absolute f—king banger” on their hands.

What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute f—ing banger of a sequel. And however it gets made, and in whatever capacity we are helping get it made, we are so excited that it’s happening.

Chris Pratt listened to a lot of old school music as his Guardians of the Galaxy character Peter Quill. But after a while, he didn’t enjoy the soundtrack nearly as much as his Star-Lord did.
Why Chris Pratt grew tired of Star-Lord’s music Chris Pratt | Anthony Harvey/Getty Images
Pratt did whatever he could to get into the head of his Star-Lord character in Guardians of the Galaxy. This meant working out rigorously for the role so he could get himself into superhero shape. But this also meant listening to Star-Lord’s music nonstop. When audiences are first introduced to Pratt’s Peter Quill in the first movie, the character is seen dancing around and listening to music. The music is a mix of songs Quill’s mother made for him back when he was still living on Earth.

We have the 2019 hit Ready or Not to thank for landing directors Radio Silence the keys to the Scream franchise, the film released into theaters in August 2019 and scaring up $57.6 million at the worldwide box office. Ready or Not was a deliciously twisted play on the concept of meeting the family of one’s fiancée. Samara Waving plays a young woman who is invited on the night of her wedding by her new husband’s rich, eccentric family to participate in a time-honored tradition that turns into a lethal game with everyone fighting for their survival. The horror comedy also starred Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, Elyse Levesque, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell and was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who have gone on to direct Scream (2022) and Scream VI.

AlleyCatz, an unassuming bowling alley in a fictional California town, isn’t compelling to passersby or potential customers from the outside. The venue run by Mozell (Sister Sister’s Jackée Harry) has a drab brick exterior, a monument to the sad architecture of suburban shopping centers. It doesn’t offer much when you walk inside either. The lanes need waxing, the bar requires tending and the equipment is in various stages of disrepair. Some people might take one look at AlleyCatz and run, but Walt (Shameik Moore), the silly protagonist of Yassir and Isaiah Lester’s boisterous directorial debut The Gutter, doesn’t have a choice. He needs a job.
The young man, who prefers to live life without a shirt, has been fired from more gigs than he can count. In a particularly amusing early sequence, Walt recounts his shoddy employment history to Mozell, whose face becomes increasingly disturbed with each revelation.

He recalled attending the Independent Spirit Awards back in 1997, when he was up for best debut performance for his starring role in Basquiat. “The first time I was here at the Independent Spirit Awards,...

Jeffrey Wright is finally an Oscar nominee. The actor’s storied career had already brought him under the direction of masters such as Sidney Lumet, Ang Lee, and most recently, newcomer Cord Jefferson in the satirical dramedy “American Fiction.” But with his Oscar nom, Wright says he feels more supported than ever by the Hollywood community and studios.
“I’ve never had this level of support behind a project that I was central to from the powers that be, the business side of our industry,” he tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast. “I’ve never had it until now. I’m really grateful for that. We’re here now, and I’m so pleased the film has been recognized across the board. With a small movie and 26 days of filming, our budget was probably the catering budget for the last Bond movie I did.”

[Editor’s note: The following article contains spoilers for “Lisa Frankenstein,” “Jennifer’s Body,” and “Young Adult.”]
Sometimes rage is the only way for a woman to get what she wants — especially if she’s a teenage girl with nothing else on her side. And no one channels that rage into movies better than screenwriter Diablo Cody.
The latest Cody film has all the signature requirements behind the Oscar-winning screenwriter’s scripts: Billed by Focus Features as “a coming of Rage love story,” the teen-centric, not quite rom-com hinges on the sexual awakening and empowerment of a high school senior (Kathryn Newton) who seeks solace from a centuries-old corpse (Cole Sprouse) after grieving death and coping with an assault.
“Lisa Frankenstein” is just the most recent female-fronted original horror-dark comedy from Cody, who penned the iconic “Jennifer’s Body” and recently told Deadline that “Lisa Frankenstein” exists in the same universe as the Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried two-hander.

Guess Angelina Jolie’s Salary For Mr & Mrs Smith? (Photo Credit: IMDb)
Brad Pitt has been a part of over 100 movies, but the most controversial remains Mr & Mrs Smith. That’s where he fell in love with his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie. He was already married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston, and their unexpected divorce drew a lot of backlash. But what has left us more furious is the gender pay gap between the leading stars. Scroll below for all the details!
Mr & Mrs Smith was a 2005 American action comedy directed by Doug Liman. It starred Brangelina as a bored upper-middle-class couple who eventually learn that they’re assassins of competing agencies and have been assigned to kill each other. Brad plays the role of John, while Angie portrays his wife, Jane.
Mr & Mrs Smith Cast Salary
It is well understood from the plot that Angelina and Brad have equally shouldered the film.

Diablo Cody returned to the horror-comedy genre with Lisa Frankenstein and is now declaring that her previous film, Jennifer’s Body, takes place in the same universe.
“I am just declaring that this movie takes place in the same universe,” Cody told Deadline during the premiere of Lisa Frankenstein. “I have decided that. I will not say that you’d see any overt references to that but I’m saying it.”
Jennifer’s Body is a 2009 horror comedy that Cody wrote starring Megan Fox in the titular role. Having worked on TV shows like Watchmen and The Good Place, Cord Jefferson makes his directorial debut with this feature adaption of Percival Everett’s 2001 novel, Erasure. American Fiction follows Thelonious “Monk” Ellison (Jeffrey Wright), a writer who is irritated at how the publishing world rejected his latest work for not being “black enough.” Monk pours those frustrations into a novel satirising the tropes that black writers are expected to adhere to, although he is surprised at how well-received the book becomes.
What Jefferson has crafted is a witty piece of social commentary that approaches the treatment of black stories in ways that are thoughtful and entertaining. The frustration is felt at how the stories most valued are the ones pandering to tired stereotypes,...

Cord Jefferson’s directorial debut, American Fiction, has slowly but surely, quietly but confidently, been picking up buzz throughout awards season. At the time of writing, the team behind the film can celebrate earning five Oscar nominations, too, and most of them are thoroughly deserved. No, it is simply because Jefferson has delivered such a surprisingly charming and entertaining film that you will find it impossible to leave the theater without a smile on your face.
American Fiction is the story of Monk, real name Thelonious Ellison (Jeffrey Wright). Monk is a fairly well-respected author but has struggled to put his name to a hit novel for quite some time. He is forced to take a...
