The story of Dave Bautista's Hollywood career is the story of him trying to prove he's not your average wrestler-turned-actor. To be fair, Bautista's best movies really do suggest he has the talent to take his acting career beyond the tough-man roles so many former grapplers come to embody. He proved that he has potential with his role as Sapper Morton in "Blade Runner 2049," and then followed through on that promising turn with his performance as Leonard in 2023's "Knock at the Cabin." But despite charting a diverse filmography and being recognized as the best wrestler-turned-actor by his "Glass Onion" director Rian Johnson, it's always seemed like Bautista has wanted more.
Though he claims to have proven himself with "Knock at the Cabin," that doesn't mean he's done demonstrating his talents. This year, we've seen him finally given more to do in Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" duology...

"He needs to be heard. He's a victim, too." Vmi has revealed a new official US trailer for the thriller film What Remains, a Finish production featuring the Skarsgård family in many roles. This initially premiered in 2022 and played at the 2023 Locarno Film Festival but has never been given a release until now - opening in the US on VOD later in June. At a Scandinavian psychiatric hospital, an uneasy triumvirate of multiple murderer Mads, therapist Anna, and policeman Soren, all have a vested interest in unearthing the truth, and a deepening co-dependency threatens to consume them all. Who will uncover what's really going on? Based on a true story, making this yet again another true crime film to feed to the true crime-obsessed audiences these days. Starring Gustaf Skarsgård, Andrea Riseborough, Stellan Skarsgård, Jussi Kostamo, Éva Magyar, and Antti Luusuaniemi. This seems unsettling with a series of great performances at least.

Bill Skarsgård is following the legacy of his father and legendary Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård who appeared in MCU and the Dune franchise. Following his Hollywood debut in 2016 with Robert Schwentke’s sci-fi thriller Allegiant in The Divergent Series, Skarsgård made his breakthrough with Andrés Muschietti’s two-part horror thriller It.

Bill Skarsgård was braced for fan backlash playing clown Pennywise in “It” thanks to a marketing stunt pulled by the studio.
Pennywise was first brought to the screen by Tim Curry in a 1990 two-part TV movie. Warner Bros. took on the film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel for two films, the first released in 2017.
Skarsgård recalled to Esquire that the release of a first-look image of him dressed as Pennywise only rattled him further during production. The photo was released in 2016 before he started filming.
“They did a thing that I felt was kind of mean,” Skarsgård said of the studio’s marketing tactic that spurred online backlash to his casting. “I was so incredibly nervous to start this job, and then the internet is having so many hateful opinions on the weird, strange look of the thing.”

The Exorcist is my choice for the best horror movie of all time. Some may say Rosemary’s Baby or The Shining or Night of the Living Dead, but as a good Catholic boy, nothing has ever gotten under my skin the way William Friedkin’s original did. But, with great success comes the desire for Hollywood to make a hit into a franchise, but Friedkin was not a franchise director. He famously turned down French Connection II, but the studio, perhaps noticing how the second French Connection turned out decently, decided to go ahead and turn it into a franchise. Still, the results, with one notable exception were a disaster. So without any further adieu, here’s our list of Exorcist movies ranked – from worst to best.
Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977)
So, worst is a degree here rather than a black-and-white fact. All of the Exorcist sequels – with that one...

One of the central villains in Frank Herbert's 1965 novel "Dune" is the amoral hedonist Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, ruler of House Harkonnen and overseer of spice production on the planet Arrakis. In the novel, he is described as being so immensely fat that he required a suit of anti-gravity devices -- called suspensors -- to hoist his massive girth. The Baron is cruel, power-mad, and regularly has sex slaves sent to his quarters so that he may engage in sick acts of murderous coitus. Some have criticized the Baron as an example of fatphobia and, rather unfortunately, "queer villainy" in popular media.
In David Lynch's 1984 film adaptation of "Dune," the Baron was played by Kenneth McMillan, and Lynch made him all the more revolting by encrusting his face with oily carbuncles that produced shot glasses of black pus. McMillan was outfitted with a fat suit, although he was decidedly...

In February 2022, Stellan Skarsgård hinted at a second season for ‘Andor,’ stating filming would commence in late 2022. By April, cinematographer Adriano Goldman indicated a shift from the original plan of five seasons to an expected three.
During the Star Wars Celebration in May, Lucasfilm officially announced a 12-episode second season. Gilroy clarified that the initial five-season plan was unfeasible due to the series’ magnitude, thus opting to conclude with one additional season that seamlessly connects to the events of Rogue One.
Recent reports suggest that the second season of ‘Andor’ will adopt a distinctive format characterized by significant time jumps, posing challenges for the entire production team. In a recent Collider interview, Adria Arjona, who portrays Bix Caleen, delved into the hurdles she faced in portraying an aging Bix, while also revealing intriguing insights into the show’s structure.

In February 2022, star Stellan Skarsgård suggested that ‘Andor’ would have a second season, with filming starting in late 2022. In April, cinematographer Adriano Goldman mentioned that the initial plan for five seasons had changed, and the series was now expected to last three seasons.
At the Star Wars Celebration in May, Lucasfilm confirmed a 12-episode second season. Gilroy explained that the original five-season plan was deemed “physically impossible” due to the series’ scale, so they decided to conclude with one more season that directly leads into the events of Rogue One.

Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" movies are truly the definition of "star-studded." Bleak though "Dune: Part Two" may be, the sequel in particular is packed with big-name actors, from stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya to Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, and Javier Bardem. Villeneuve even managed to coax Christopher Walken out of a four-year acting hiatus for his follow-up to 2021's "Dune." All of which amounted to a set that must have been intimidating for even seasoned actors.
Take Dave Bautista, for example. When shooting "Dune: Part Two," the wrestler-turned-actor was particularly intimidated by "Elvis" star Austin Butler, before being surprised at how warm and supportive he was. Even Butler himself admitted to being unnerved by the scale of the production, revealing in a behind-the-scenes clip that he was nervous about the shoot and that arriving on set felt like "the first day of school."

Now that "Dune: Part Two" has crossed box office milestones and set up director Denis Villenueve to keep the spice flowing with a forthcoming "Dune 3," we can forget all about claims that Frank Herbert's original "Dune" novel was "unfilmable." We no longer need to worry that Villeneuve's adaptation would be too arcane and dense with sci-fi lore to appeal to mass audiences. We can simply take in his "Dune" duology for the breathtaking spectacle that it is.
The "Dune" discourse will likely veer toward the forthcoming threequel and the "Dune: Prophecy" series, set to hit Max this fall, but in the meantime, Villeneuve can simply revel in his latest blockbuster's success. But this isn't just a commercial win for Villeneuve. Ahsoka was a successful Star Wars show that received high viewership and critical acclaim. While the series enjoys a vast family fanbase, there are hardcore fans who believe that it couldn’t live up to the gritty storytelling of Andor. Ahsoka was written and produced as a sequel to the animated series, Star Wars Rebels, which appealed to the family audiences. However, the Diego Luna-led series appealed to a more mature audience.

Dune: Part Two has been available to purchase on Digital services for almost a month now, but Warner Bros. has finally announced a streaming date for Denis Villeneuve's critically-acclaimed sci-fi sequel.
Fans will get to return to Arrakis from the comfort of their couches very soon, as Dune: Part Two is set to premiere on Max next Tuesday, May 21.
Although the movie didn't reach $1 billion as some predicted (always a long shot in the current box office climate), it did pass $700 million worldwide, meaning a third film based on Frank Herbert's second novel, Dune: Messiah, is likely.
Part Three hasn't been officially greenllt, but is believed to be in the early stages of development - though there's no guarantee that Villeneuve will to return to complete the trilogy.
“If we go back, it needs to be real, it needs to be relevant," the filmmaker told Empire in a recent interview.

As the seasons pass, sexual tensions rise, and tourists come and go, Enrico begins to unearth disturbing clues about Max’s dark and mysterious past.

In 2002, Christopher Nolan directed a film set in a small town in Alaska where the sun doesn’t go down for days at a time. The film starred the great Al Pacino as a once again decorated but tortured Detective at full Heat level intensity, squaring off against the legendary Robin Williams in an against-type role as a creepy, cerebral murderer of a teenage girl. And somehow……some way…..it’s considered underrated. Christopher Nolan. Al Pacino. Robin Williams. Underrated. These are not words that go together. So, let’s talk about just Wtf Happened to Insomnia.

Anya Taylor-Joy makes a very brief appearance in Dune: Part Two, but if and when Denis Villeneuve returns to helm his adaptation of Dune: Messiah, the Furiosa star will have a much more substantial role.
If you haven't seen the movie yet, spoilers follow.
In Part One, we learn that Paul Atreides' mother, the Bene Gesserit Lady Jessica, is pregnant with the late Duke Leto's child. When the Fremen take in the survivors of the Harkonnen massacre, Jessica agrees to become the tribe's new Reverend Mother (she isn't really given a choice) and is "persuaded" to drink the Water of Life (a blue substance that's been extracted from a juvenile sandworm).
This gives Jessica incredible foresight and knowledge of previous generations, while also awakening similar abilities in her unborn daughter, who begins to communicate with and seemingly influence her mother's actions.
When Paul ingests the same liquid later on in the movie,...

Danny and Michael Philippou, the breakout directors of last year’s box office horror hit “Talk to Me,” are re-teaming with A24 on their next horror film, an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire. And this time they’re being paired with a two-time Oscar nominee.
Sally Hawkins will star in “Bring Her Back” from the Philippous, who are writing and directing the original movie for A24. Danny and Michael Philippou are also re-teaming with the producers on “Talk to Me,” Causeway Films’ Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton (“The Babadook”).
Plot details are being kept under wraps for “Bring Her Back,” but the film will begin production later this summer.
This would not be the first time Hawkins has starred in a horror film. Way back in 2007 she appeared in “The Killing Gene” alongside Stellan Skarsgård, Tom Hardy, and Selma Blair. The closest she’s gotten to the...

Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a strange time for the franchise. The post-"Avengers: Endgame" era saw Kevin Feige and co. trying to shepherd the concept of the multiverse into our collective consciousness while simultaneously introducing a host of new heroes and somewhat reinventing the MCU for a new generation. Much of it worked well, with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" holding things down on the cinematic front. Meanwhile, "WandaVision" and "Hawkeye" made a good case for the McU's streaming age being a good development — a case that was later ruined by the poorly-reviewed "Secret Invasion."
But for every good entry in Phase 4, there was a "Thor: Love and Thunder" or a "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" to undermine them. Thankfully, Phase 4 will always remain beloved for introducing us to one of the best arguments for the MCU expanding into the world of streaming television: "Loki.

This article contains likely spoilers for Dune: Part Three as well as the books Dune Messiah and Children of Dune.
You are not prepared for what is to come. These are the words of promise, or prophecy, in Anya Taylor-Joy’s lone scene in Dune: Part Two. Whether the sequence is a kind of psychic chat room occurring between Paul “Muad’Dib” Atreides (Timothée Chalemet) and his unborn sister, Alia, or an actual vision of a conversation they will have in the future is obscure. Either way, the meeting seems otherworldly, not least of all because Paul and Alia are conversing on a beach. On Arrakis.
“Paul, you are not prepared for what is to come,” Alia warns. “You’ll now learn the truth about our family, and it will hurt you to the core.”

Box office sands continue to flow for “Dune: Part Two,” which is nearing $700 million worldwide.
Director Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic has grossed $276 million in North America and $419 million overseas, bringing its global tally to $695.8 million after eight weeks of release. It’s an impressive benchmark in post-covid times; only five movies in 2023, eight in 2022 and five in 2021 managed to cross the $700 million mark.
At this point, “Dune 2” is the highest-grossing movie of 2024 at the domestic and worldwide box office. Outside of the U.S. and Canada, the biggest markets are the U.K. ($48.8 million), China ($48.5 million), France ($42.6 million), Germany ($39.7 million) and Australia ($22.5 million).
“Dune: Part Two” has far outgrossed its predecessor, 2021’s “Dune,” which generated $433 million while landing simultaneously on HBO Max. The sequel’s impressive staying power is thanks to several factors, including glowing word-of-mouth, an A-list ensemble led by Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, and interest in Imax and other premium formats.

Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" films are an embarrassment of riches. With a strong ensemble cast, gorgeous visuals, an arresting story, and production design to die for, the filmmaker's take on Frank Herbert's epic sci-fi saga is firing on all cylinders. The movies also have fantastic effects makeup; a talented team is responsible for turning Austin Butler into a scowling, pale villain, etching runes onto the faces of the Bene Gesserit, and making everyone generally look both hot and windswept.
Oscar-nominated makeup artist Donald Mowat is credited as head of the makeup department on both 2021's "Dune" and "Dune: Part Two," but in 2020, he told Inside The Film Room that he nearly didn't get to work on the movies after all. Mowat previously collaborated extensively with Daniel Craig, doing his makeup on films like "Cowboys & Aliens" and "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" before joining the Bond franchise for "Skyfall" and Spectre.

After experiencing the desert world of Arrakis in Denis Villeneuve’s epic film Dune 2, fans eagerly look forward to playing the tie-in game Dune: Awakening. While the sand-filled planet is expected to dim down the coloring of the Survival Mmo game, developers Funcom have some plans to add ‘spice’ to the aesthetics. In addition to adding the canonical underground vegetation to the game’s world, the developers are also considering changing locations from Arrakis to some darker places.

The developers are of course eyeing Giedi Prime, the home to House Harkonnen in Dune 2, as a potential setting for the game. The black-and-white aesthetics of the planet are far different from the brown and grey shades of Arrakis.

Legendary Pictures announced that Denis Villeneuve will be collaborating with the production for not one but two major motion pictures. And the highly anticipated Dune: Messiah is one of them!
Based on Frank Herbert’s novel, Dune is always three movies. Considering the end of Dune 2, a third movie is pivotal to Paul Atredis’s fate and how the consequences of the sequel affect the story’s arc in general.

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two has been regarded as the filmmaker’s masterpiece and has been reigning at the box office since its release earlier in March. With $577 million at the global box office, the film has become the highest-grossing film of the year. Based on Frank Herbert’s novel series, the film starred Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya in lead roles.
While most critics and fans have been applauding Villeneuve’s vision for the sci-fi epic, there have been criticisms of the movie regarding its depiction of people hailing from Mena backgrounds. Have you noticed that a lot of science-fiction movies haven't felt so fictional of late? Oh sure, the genre has always been about our real-world problems in the present day. Yet, as technology has caught up to our collective imaginations, a lot of would-be fantastical representations of the future have come to resemble our current hellscape but either slightly shinier and/or dingier and with A.I. that's capable of more than cranking out fake YouTube film trailer screencaps of men standing behind nude women. Even movies set thousands of years from now on distant planets tend to be about the all-too-topical concern of young white twinks embracing fascism (much to the dismay of their progressive girlfriends).
As dour and sometimes surreal as these movies are, they're also excellent vehicles for filmmakers to talk about the biggest issues of the day and, in doing so, perhaps make them feel just...

Making a place for himself among critically acclaimed directors like Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese, Denis Villeneuve has turned himself into an extraordinary icon following his take on Dune. While previously the novels were considered “unadaptable” following David Lynch and Alejandro Jodorowsky’s failed attempts, Villeneuve proved his capabilities with his sequels.

Apart from Dune, Denis Villeneuve also has other acclaimed projects like Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, and more under his belt. But much like most filmmakers, even Villeneuve’s proficiency comes from his appreciation for cinematic brilliance. Naming a few of his favorite films of all time during an interview with BBC Radio 1, the filmmaker held one movie in high regard that he even paid homage to in Dune.

“Dune: Part Two” is barreling toward another box office milestone.
Director Denis Villeneuve’s science-fiction sequel has grossed $494.7 million globally, including $208 million in North America and $289.4 million internationally. It should surpass the $500 million mark by Monday, a figure that few films have reached in post-pandemic times. Although it’s early in the year, “Dune 2” is currently the highest-grossing film of 2024 at the domestic and worldwide box office.
After 10 days on the big screen, “Part Two” surpassed the entire domestic tally of the first film ($108 million), although it’s worth noting that the benchmark comes with a major caveat. The original 2021 film was released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max, so its ticket sales were stifled by the hybrid release on streaming. Now, the follow-up film has outgrossed its predecessor, which generated $433 million at the worldwide box office.
