Since its initial announcement in 2010, “Reagan” has encountered several obstacles, such as delays resulting from Covid shutdowns and the SAG-AFTRA/WGA strikes. It’s interesting to remember that in 1960, Reagan spearheaded an actors’ strike while leading SAG.

Well, the first trailer for Dennis Quaid’s Ronald Reagan biopic has debuted. The actor plays the 40th President of the United States in the feature, which promises to span the major events of Reagan’s life, including his confrontation with childhood bullies, his acting career and time leading the Screen Actors Guild and his ascendant rise in politics bolstered by anti-communist rhetoric. Set to a cover of Tears for Fears’ ’80s hit “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” the trailer tracks how Reagan wanted to rule the free world — and did.
“I was a lifeguard on a river. And I learned how to read the currents — not just the ones on the surface, but also the ones deep underneath the water,” President Reagan says in the trailer, drawing a comparison to his own eye for geopolitical tensions. The footage also teases more well-known moments from the conservative President’s tenure,...

"There's nothing a retired governor can do about the Soviets..." ShowBiz Direct has revealed a trailer for a movie called Reagan, a brand new biopic about the 40th President of the United States of America. This will open in theaters at the end of August this summer. Actor Dennis Quaid stars as Ron, who worked as an actor before getting into politics. "I've always been told bits and pieces of the stories of Ronald Reagan's life, but this movie puts the whole story together. I've played quite a few real people over the years, and I like to play them from their point of view, without judgment. It was a big challenge for me to get behind the public persona of the man and also to move beyond my own feelings of admiration for him." Set against the backdrop of the Cold War, the film was shot in Oklahoma...

In Todd Haynes’ Netflix drama “May December,” the subject of a decades-old tabloid sex scandal is visited by a famous actress set to portray her in a film.
Julianne Moore plays Gracie Atherton-Yoo, who was 36 years old when she was caught having sex with Joe, a 13-year-old boy who worked with her at a pet store. After having his first child from behind bars, Gracie began her life with Joe (Charles Melton), who is now the same age Gracie was when they first met. Gracie and Joe have three children together, the youngest of them about to graduate high school, and are settling into quiet suburban life when Elizabeth Berry (Natalie Portman) arrives at their waterfront home to study her subject and rock the boat.
If the story feels ripped from the headlines, that’s because the film is loosely inspired by the Mary Kay Letourneau tabloid scandal of the late-1990s.

Brian De Palma’s “play nice” films—in which he shows that he can groove to the strictures of pop cinema while reinvigorating formulaic stories with his formal gifts—often have an acrid aftertaste. While watching The Untouchables or Mission: Impossible, the De Palma acolyte may sense the artist’s resentment at having to impersonally flex his mastery. Carlito’s Way, though, is an exception.
Working from a vivid screenplay by David Koepp, adapted from two novels by Judge Edwin Torres, De Palma embraces the romantic possibilities of mainstream cinema, using his skill to deepen the audience’s engagement with melodrama rather than to interrogate it. The 1993 film is an increasingly endangered bird—an intelligent and beautiful entertainment for adults—that was taken for granted by many at the time.

A version of this story about the hairstyling of “Dahmer—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” first appeared in the Limited Series/Movies issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
One of the great ironies of Jeffrey Dahmer’s existence is that while his apartment stank of, in his words, “rotting meat” (we all know what it really was), his physical appearance was initially anything but shabby. He even had a tidy blond hairdo, which Evan Peters wears as the cannibal serial killer in producer Ryan Murphy’s “Dahmer—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” for Netflix.

This week in Hollywood was packed to the gills with parties, screenings combined with glad-handing receptions, luncheons, galas, you name it, as awards season shifted into high gear. The Golden Globe Awards came back, with nary a swag suite nor a studio afterparty in the usually packed Beverly Hilton environs and low ratings on the NBC broadcast. Will they be back next year? If all the stars who Did show up and cried when they won have a say, the answer is apparently “yes.”

The true crime mini-series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is one of the biggest hits the Netflix streaming service has ever had, so a lot of subscribers have spent a good amount of time watching Evan Peters inhabit the role of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Peters sat in on a panel with co-stars Niecy Nash and Richard Jenkins and Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story co-creator Ryan Murphy last Saturday, and during the panel it was revealed that Peters stayed in character for months while making the show.
Four months of prep and six months of shooting were required to bring Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story to the screen, and during that time Peters wore weights on his arms and lifts in his shoes to match the real Dahmer’s physicality and did extensive research to get his dialect right. Netflix's latest true-crime series, "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story," is revisiting the chilling murders of the notorious serial killer. The 10-part limited series delves into Jeffrey's childhood and the psychological behavior that preceded his unnerving string of sexual assaults and murders, which he carried out over a decade before finally getting caught in 1991. Jeffrey horrifically raped, killed, and dismembered 17 known victims, most of whom were underage males of color, between 1978 and 1991.
The Netflix series, from Ryan Murphy, presents a fictionalized version of the true events and is told, in part, through the lens of the victims of the late murderer, portrayed by Evan Peters. Jeffrey's parents - mother Joyce Dahmer (portrayed by Penelope Ann Miller) and father Lionel Dahmer (played by Richard Jenkins) - also play a huge role in the series as it analyzes whether the infamous criminal's emotionally devoid upbringing led to his distorted psyche.

The promotional train for Dahmer may have started late, but the lack of publicity for the series has seemingly resulted in more interest.
Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story beat Netflix records in its first week on the streaming service.
After just five days available, it secured 196.2 million hours of viewership, allowing it to hit the #1 spot in several countries.
The numbers make Dahmer the highest first week of viewership for a series debut on Netflix.
Granted, the numbers were probably helped by the fact that the series dropped on a Wednesday instead of a Friday.
We'll have more concrete numbers when the show has been available for longer.
The series narrowly beat Inventing Anna, which netted 195.97 million hours viewed.
Squid Game, which became the streamer's most-watched show ever, kicked off with just over 63 million hours viewed.

Our own Alex Maidy wasn’t very impressed with Netflix’s new limited series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which he gave a 6/10 review. A relative of one of Dahmer’s victims described the show as “cruel“. But Netflix subscribers certainly were curious to check it out. Netflix has announced that Dahmer debuted at #1 on the English TV list with 196.2 million hours viewed, making it the most viewed title on the streaming service this week. The series also broke into the Top 10 in 92 countries around the world. According to Deadline, Dahmer’s “hours viewed” number makes it one of the biggest hits on Netflix – at least since the streamer started reporting those numbers in June of 2021. The only shows that have had more hours viewed when they premiered were Squid Game, All of Us Are Dead, Stranger Things season 4, and Bridgerton season 2. Personally, I think it’s a...

Held back from critics, presumably so that co-creator Ryan Murphy could protect the viewing experience for audiences without access to Wikipedia, recent television or semi-recent history, Netflix’s Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is an infuriating hodgepodge. (That’s the last time I’m going to use that full idiotic title, one of several things Netflix brass should have had the wherewithal to prevent.)
One can appreciate the performers in Dahmer — Richard Jenkins and Niecy Nash in particular; Evan Peters despite an excess of familiarity in his turn — and respect that Murphy and co-creator Ian Brennan have tangible and meaningful things to say here, while also feeling that the 10-episode series is haphazardly structured, never finds a happy medium between exploration and expectation, and probably would never have existed if adulation for The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story had been more universal.

Plot: Between 1978 and 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer gruesomely took the lives of seventeen innocent victims. It takes six episodes for “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” to meaningfully expand beyond the scope of either the serial killer or Evan Peters’ portrayal of him. In that episode, “Silenced,” directed by Paris Barclay and written by Janet Mock and David McMillan, the story of Dahmer victim Tony Anthony Hughes comes to the forefront. Tony (played with warm charm by “Deaf U” alum Rodney Burford) was a gregarious aspiring model with a big heart. He was Deaf, Black, gay, a great dancer. His friends and mother (a moving Karen Malina White) loved him very much. With every moment Burford gets to give Tony new life, the inevitable end of “Silenced” becomes all the more harrowing, and the cops’ inaction to find the truth all the more infuriating. But as the show’s nonsensical maze of a title suggests, this episode is an exception rather than the rule.
