Despite Bob Iger’s recent announcement that the MCU will produce fewer new projects, we still have many shows to look forward to that started before the strikes.
One of these is a live-action adaptation of ‘Wonder Man,’ based on the comic book character. The show faced many delays and was rumored to be canceled several times over the past few years. Recently, it was confirmed that the show is still happening, so we decided to summarize everything we know about it so far.
‘Wonder Man’ will follow the story of a stuntman who hits a rough patch
The show will focus on Simon Williams, an actor and stuntman who gains superpowers and becomes a superhero known as Wonder Man. It is described as “Hollywood satire.”
In the comics, Simon Williams is the son of a wealthy industrialist whose business struggles due to competition with Stark Industries. To save the family business,...

Now Huntington has gone into production, and Deadline has revealed that the cast also includes Jessica Henwick (Glass Onion), Topher Grace (That 70s Show), Zach Woods (Silicon Valley), and Raff Law (Masters of the Air). On June 7, 1996, Buena Vista unveiled Michael Bay’s actioner The Rock, which paired Sean Connery with Nicolas Cage. The R-rated film, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, went on to gross $134 million domestically that summer. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:
An above-average big-bucks action film with enough macho behavior and explosive thrills to please fans of the genre, Hollywood Pictures’ The Rock has the usual problems with credibility, but the ride is so fast and ferociously executed that one has fun with its excesses while admiring the solid performances from its trio of stars.
On target for a big breakout on its opening weekend, the final Simpson/Bruckheimer production is dedicated to the late Don of high-testosterone blockbusters. Furiously paced and ruggedly directed by sophomore helmer Michael Bay (Bad Boys), The Rock has firepower to spare and plenty of dramatic sparring, but no time for romance or genuine bonding...

Tom Bower, the veteran character actor best known for prominent turns on The Waltons and in Die Hard 2, has died. A family member confirmed the news to Deadline’s sister publication The Hollywood Reporter. He was 86.
Bower never had what one might call a “breakout” part, but he was an actor one recognized from, well, everywhere. His more than 180 screen credits include appearances on The Rockford Files, Lou Grant, Quincy M.E., Miami Vice, Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, The X-Files, Law & Order and many other TV staples of the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and early 2000s.
And he kept on working. In the past 15 years, Bower was on Ray Donovan, Bosch, Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, The Office and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He also played the father of Bob Odenkirk’s character on Lucky Hank and had a part in Vince Gilligan’s El Camino, A Breaking Bad Movie.

Top Gun: Maverick certainly caught audiences off-guard when it was released. Despite having been released decades after its first part, the film managed to grasp relevance in the best of ways. Many small pieces had to work seamlessly to make sure that the machine that was the film did not crash. It was excellently well-executed in every aspect, and many are to thank for it.

Perception is everything. Filmmakers often toy with reality by unscrewing the story from the unreliable narrator’s vantage point. In filtering events through a distorted lens, incrementally unraveling the truth, writers and directors keep the viewer tip-toeing through a battlefield littered with dynamite. Darren Aronofsky’s mother! and Mitzi Peirone’s Braid shift reality like tectonic plates. Both are illusory, fever dreams that don’t even seem real. The filmmakers test our mental capacity and push our patience for such absurdism to the absolute limits.

Renny Harlin's "The Strangers: Chapter 1" is the third film in the "Strangers" series, but is intended to be the first film in a new rebooted trilogy sporting a unique continuity. Not that "The Strangers" possessed a complicated mythology; each movie follows a trio of mute, masked killers -- perhaps a family -- who have made a sport of breaking into people's houses and torturing them for kicks. In the credits of "Chapter 1," the killers are credited only as Dollface, Pin-Up Girl, and Scarecrow (previously called The Man in the Mask). This time around, they are played by Olivia Kreutzova, Letizia Fabbri, and Matúš Lajčák, respectively.
The plot of "Chapter 1" is as simple as can be: A young city couple (Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez) is driving to Portland, Oregon when they get waylaid in a small town called Venus. Naturally, their car breaks down and they have to...

While these are more space fantasy than true sci-fi, the genre's core purpose is to offer commentary on our present and possible future. Films like Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, and Ridley Scott's The Martian are exemplary in their scientific fidelity. However, one film stands out for its unparalleled accuracy: Ron Howard's Apollo 13.
The Story of the Failed, Yet Heroic Flight to the Moon
"Apollo 13" is not your typical sci-fi movie but rather a science space drama with fictional elements, dramatizing the perilous events of the April 1970 space mission. Directed by Ron Howard, known for films like Willow, A Beautiful Mind, and The Da Vinci Code, and written by William Broyles Jr. and Al Reinert, the movie meticulously recreates the dangerous mission.

With the release of ‘Echo,’ the MCU underwent significant changes. It became the first TV-ma-rated show in the MCU and the inaugural series under the ‘Marvel Spotlight’ banner, emphasizing character-driven stories that don’t require prior knowledge of previous projects.
During the recent Disney Upfronts presentation, it was revealed that Marvel Studios has segmented its development into several divisions: Marvel Animation, Marvel Television, and Marvel Spotlight. This new strategy aims to simplify the MCU for new fans, making it easier to understand and engage with the universe.
We have long known that more Marvel Spotlight shows are in the works, such as ‘Marvel Zombies,’ which will also be TV-ma rated. There has been speculation that ‘Wonder Man’ could be released under the same banner.
This was recently confirmed by Variety in an interview with Brad Winderbaum. ‘Wonder Man’ will indeed be part of Marvel Spotlight. Since the character has not previously appeared in the MCU,...

With the release of ‘Echo’ plenty of things changed in the MCU. It was the first TV-ma-rated show in the MCU, and the first to be released under the ‘Marvel Spotlight’ banner, meaning that it’s heavily character-oriented and that you don’t have to watch previous projects to understand the story.
Recently, during the Disney Upfronts presentation we saw that MCU, or rather Marvel Studios had separated its development into several segments: Marvel Animation, Marvel Television, and Marvel Spotlight which is also a part of the new strategy to make it easier for new fans to get a good sense regarding what the MCU is about.

With Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Daniel Destin Cretton no longer attached to Avengers 5, he's been able to focus on Disney+'s upcoming Wonder Man series.
While the show has never been "officially" announced by Marvel Studios, we have a new update from Variety. In a piece addressing the decision to bring back the "Marvel Television" label to better differentiate big and small screen stories, the trade confirms that Wonder Man will fall under the "Marvel Spotlight" banner Echo debuted with in January.
That's meant for one-off, character-driven TV shows which can serve as standalone projects with fewer connections to the wider MCU. However, with Echo, that decision seems to have been made relatively last-minute seeing as it set the stage for Daredevil: Born Again.

Margaret Qualley and Demi Moore are teased as playing the same character for feminist body-horror thriller “The Substance.”
The Cannes feature, which premieres in competition at the festival, has already been picked up by Mubi for worldwide distribution. French director Coralie Fargeat helms her sophomore film, following her debut “Revenge” which premiered at TIFF in 2017.
“The Substance” is titled for a mysterious serum that transforms users into the ideal versions of themselves. The elusive official synopsis reads: “It generates another you. A new, younger, more beautiful, more perfect you. And there’s only one rule: You share time. One week for you. One week for the new you. Seven days each. A perfect balance. Easy. Right? If you respect the balance…what could possibly go wrong?”
The teaser shows Moore intently watching an ad for the substance injection and contemplating undergoing its cellular division. Could Qualley be who Moore transforms into?...

Roth (“The Hateful Eight,” “Sundown”) will star as Kissinger, while Jeff Stanzler will direct from his screenplay, and Claude Dal Farra and Brian Keady of Bcdf Pictures (“To Leslie”) are producing along with Stanzler. CAA Media Finance and Concourse Media are co-representing domestic rights, and Concourse is handling international rights, with sales launching at Cannes.

Before "Star Wars," there was "Thx 1138." A strange, dystopic science fiction movie packed with big ideas up to its eyeballs, "Thx 1138" is now mostly known as the feature directorial debut of one George Walton Lucas Jr. (though it also came back in conversation when the best episode of "Andor" paid homage to it). The future Lucasfilm founder originally created this story of repressed emotions and stymied sexuality as a student film, but by the time it was reimagined as a feature, it had gained backing from Warner Bros.
Lucas' American Zoetrope co-founder Francis Ford Coppola also had faith in the movie, and served as one of its producers. "Thx 1138" starred Robert Duvall, then already known for his work on stage and television, not to mention in films like "To Kill A Mockingbird," "M*A*S*H," and "True Grit." Future "Halloween" actor Donald Pleasence co-starred, along with a then-unknown actress named Maggie McOmie.

His name is Nasubi. He sits alone and naked in a small apartment for months on end, trying to win food and clothing as mail-in sweepstakes prizes. He doesn’t quite know it, but his strange predicament is being broadcast to 17 million people. It sounds like a work of fiction about a torturous psychopath — something out of a “Saw” film — but in 1998, it was the premise of a Japanese reality TV show, and is now now the subject of documentary Clair Titley’s wildly intriguing (if often imbalanced) “The Contestant.”
The British documentary, now available on Hulu, chronicles the inception of this cruel and unusual game through the eyes of not only its subject — wannabe comedian Tomoaki Hamatsu, a.k.a. Nasubi — as well as TV super-producer Toshio Tsuchiya, who created the bizarre challenge for comedy/prank reality series “Susunu! Denpa Shōnen.” Starting with six-minute segments of Nasubi’s life,...
