When we think about the world’s richest actors, Robert Downey Jr, Brad Pitt, and Tom Cruise are the names we cannot just skip. However, many would be surprised to know that the richest actor in the world has not been an active face in the industry for now. We’ve been referring to The Lost Boys actor Jami Gertz who has a massive net worth of $3 billion as of 2023.

Steven Spielberg’s production company Amblin Entertainment was one of the production companies that backed up the 1996 film Twister. The hit disaster thriller starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Jami Gertz, and Cary Elwes introduced storm chasers trying to contain a tornado outbreak in Oklahoma. Spielberg also served as an executive producer (EP) on the film.

Many years later, Spielberg is also an EP on the standalone sequel Twisters which is coming soon to theatres. The film stars Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos. For Ramos’ character Javi, the actor envisioned him having a Southern accent. However, Spielberg told him to keep his natural accent for the film, which surprised Ramos.

It's been 28 years since Jan De Bont's "Twister" ripped through theaters and whipped up a $496 million worldwide gross. In the meantime, it's become a weekend cable mainstay, where viewers can tune out its wafer-thin plot and simply enjoy the foul weather spectacle. It's far from a classic, but its visual prowess is undeniable, and its colorful cast of storm chasers led by Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt seem to be having a ball. Any film that includes Philip Seymour Hoffman, Alan Ruck, Jami Gertz, Todd Field, and Lois Smith is bound to be fun on some level.
So why has it taken so long for Universal to make a sequel to the second-highest-grossing film (domestically) of 1996?
"Twisters" didn't exactly have a stormy development process, but it did go through a couple of iterations over the last four years. Joseph Kosinski was attached to direct in early 2020. When that fell through,...

It’s been four decades since Samantha Baker bemoaned the fact that everyone had forgotten her 16th birthday amid the chaos caused by her wacky sister’s impending nuptials. On May 4, 1984, “Sixteen Candles” was released, the success of which prompted a string of hits by filmmaker John Hughes, launched the careers of several performers and inspired the glory years of teen movies in the 1980s. Read on for more about the “Sixteen Candles” 40th anniversary.
After the success of two movies based on screenplays he had written, “Mr. Mom” and “National Lampoon’s Vacation” (1983), Hughes was given the opportunity to direct one of his scripts. Up to this point, “teen movies” had largely evolved from cautionary “rebellion” films in the 1950s to the beach party films of the 1960s to slasher films of the 1970s to sex comedies in the early 1980s. Hughes wrote a script that truly reflected the life of an average teen,...

Robert Downey Jr. is one of the biggest movie stars of our generation. The actor recently won his first Oscar for his role in Christopher Nolan’s monumental 2023 historical drama Oppenheimer. But, despite his many impressive movie roles, Downey Jr. will forever be Iron Man for Marvel fans.
The 59-year-old actor also won fans over after candidly talking about his battle with drug addiction and how he overcame it. However, long before the Iron Man actor was on his road to redemption, he played the role of a drug addict in a forgotten 1987 thriller. Playing the said role catapulted him further into the dark depths of addiction.

New Drake-produced doscuseries “Magic City: An American Fantasy” debuted at SXSW Monday night to a roaring crowd packed with friends, patrons and fans of the project’s titular iconic Atlanta strip club, Magic City.
After the first episode of the three-part doc, which does not yet have a distributor or platform attached, was screened, producer Cole Brown and director Charles Todd fielded a few questions from the audience, including “Was there anything too explicit to put in the documentary?”
“We wanted to walk a fine line with nudity, in particular — where you can’t make a documentary about a strip club and not have any nudity, it just isn’t true to form — and you’re trying to tell the true story,” Brown said. “At the same time, we didn’t want it to be salacious, gratuitous. The first trailer for the upcoming non-sequel Twisters has arrived, taking the Super Bowl by storm during its debut.
After a brief teaser during Super Bowl Lviii, the Twisters trailer hit the web, with the ominous warning that, “Whatever’s in there, it’s big and it’s moving fast.” We then get a hype call and response of, “If you’re feelin’ it” … “Chase it!” – which we have to admit would make a great tagline! The action only amplifies, with the warning that the team will be facing off against twin twisters, hence the movie’s title.
But lest you think this is a direct sequel to 1996’s Oscar-nominated Twister, you’ll notice that none of the surviving original cast members – Helen Hunt, Cary Elwes, Jami Gertz, and more – were featured. That’s because Universal’s Twisters doesn’t rely as much on the original as you’d think,...

Nostalgia sometimes takes time to form. The 1996 disaster film “Twister” directed by Jan de Bont, starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Jami Gertz, and Cary Elwes, was always a fun lark, but it’s only in recent years it’s been reclaimed as a ’90s classic. And so yeah, enough time passed, and studios suddenly wanted to make a belated sequel. That’s essentially the story of the sequel “Twisters.”

Last month, it was announced that Patrick Wilson, who has starred in the likes of three Conjuring movies and three Insidious movies (one of which he directed), is producing a stage musical adaptation of Joel Schumacher’s 1987 vampire classic The Lost Boys (watch it Here). Now that project is taking a big step forward, as Deadline has learned that there’s going to be an industry presentation of the show next month, with Frozen‘s Caissie Levy, Dear Evan Hansen‘s Nathan Levy, and & Juliet‘s Lorna Courtney having been cast in major roles. This private presentation is scheduled to be held on February 23rd – and even though only industry insiders will get to watch it, that’s enough to inspire the people behind the show to release a teaser trailer for what they’re calling The Lost Boys: A New Musical. You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

The Lost Boys, the previously announced, in-development stage musical adaptation of 1987 horror classic, has set an invitation-only industry presentation for next month, with Frozen‘s Caissie Levy, Dear Evan Hansen‘s Nathan Levy and & Juliet‘s Lorna Courtney in pivotal roles.
The private presentation in New York City will take place on February 23. A high-concept teaser trailer was released today, which includes a snippet of a haunting song with the repeated lyrics “when the secret comes out…” Watch it above.
The new musical, announced in December, will feature a book by David Hornsby (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia writer/EP) & Chris Hoch, music & lyrics by pop-rock band The Rescues. Tony winner Michael Arden (Parade), will direct.

Jerry Seinfeld made history with his TV deal in the 1990s. Since leaving Seinfeld, he has amassed an expansive fortune. As the Seinfeld star closes in on becoming a billionaire, it would be easy to assume he is the richest alum from the fame TV series about nothing. That isn’t actually the case, though. Back in 1996, the Twister cast, outside of Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton was largely unknown. At the time, not too many of them were famous. However, in the years since the film, much of that has changed and much of the Twister cast has gone on to fame both in front and behind the camera.
Helen Hunt was arguably the film’s biggest star in the cast back in ’96, but she wasn’t the first choice for the movie. Before the role of Dr. Jo Harding went to her, Jurassic Park standout Laura Dern, Bridget Fonda, and Kate Mulgrew almost wore the good doctor’s white tank top and reinforced mud-stompers. Initially, Tom Hanks eyed the role of Bill Harding but ultimately felt Twister wasn’t the right fit for his brand of character creation. Other actors floated for Bill Harding include Kevin Costner, Michael Keaton, Kurt Russell, Richard Gere,...

The Lost Boys was released in an era before vampire movies were once again in vogue; while it wasn’t a huge box office hit, it did serve to reignite interest in the genre, paving the way for many of the vampire films that followed. The film, directed by Joel Schumacher, was highly acclaimed for its casting, as it assembled an all-star team of 1987’s top young talent, including Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, Jami Gertz, Alex Winter, and Kiefer Sutherland. With the film now recognized as a cult classic, Speaking at a Steel City Con panel, Sutherland said he knew it was an interesting movie, but had no idea that it would have such staying power. Marc Charles Williams, better known as Mars Williams, the front-and-center saxophonist of ’80s New Wave bands The Waitresses and The Psychedelic Furs, died Nov. 20 of the rare and aggressive ampullary cancer in a Chicago hospice facility. He was 68.

Following his initial stints in the Waitresses and Psychedelic Furs – both bands were early MTV favorites with videos often spotlighting the playful Williams, and he would reunite with the Furs throughout his life – the saxophonist went on to lead his own jazz ensembles including the influential, Grammy-nominated acid jazz group Liquid Soul in the 1990s.

Patrick Wilson is no stranger to the horror genre, having starred in the likes of three Conjuring movies and three Insidious movies (one of which he directed), among other things – but I never would have predicted that his name would be attached to a stage musical adaptation of Joel Schumacher’s 1987 vampire classic The Lost Boys (watch it Here). Malcolm Mowbray, the British director of “A Private Function,” died June 23, producer Deniz Erel confirmed to Variety. He was 74.
Mowbray was known for directing “The Revengers’ Comedies,” “Meeting Spencer,” “Out Cold” as well as the 1984 feature “A Private Function.”
Maggie Smith, Michael Palin, Richard Griffiths, Denholm Elliott, John Normington and Tony Haygarth starred in “A Private Function,” which Mowbray co-wrote. The dark comedy followed the citizens of a small English town in 1947 who were awaiting the wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillip. The citizens had to ration their food, but the royal celebration was the one exception. They gathered to prepare and raise a pig for the celebratory meal — but a couple, Smith’s Joyce and Palin’s Gilbert, decide to steal the pig in an act of rebellion. The film garnered six BAFTA wins, including original screenplay and best film.

The '80s was a pretty great time to be an undead bloodsucker. Writers and directors were clearly enjoying themselves playing with the old tropes; Tony Scott's "The Hunger" dispensed with fangs altogether and toyed with the idea of vampire immortality before turning into softcore erotica; Nicolas Cage lost the plot and munched live cockroaches in "Vampire's Kiss;" Kathryn Bigelow brought a Western theme to her mean and moody "Near Dark;" and "Lifeforce" even gave us vampires from outer space. To top it all off, Count Dracula teamed up with other classic Universal monsters like the Wolf Man and the Mummy in "The Monster Squad." These movies left behind the spooky castles and misty graveyards of Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee's iconic iterations of Bram Stoker's most famous creation, bringing the vampire myth right into the modern world.

In the past decade, Atlanta has earned the moniker Hollywood of the South. The city boasts a population of around 500,000 in Atlanta proper and roughly 6 million in the greater metro area, with a rising number of full-time and part-time residents who are entertainment industry professionals. Many have been lured to work on productions like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Walking Dead and the new Father of the Bride, or to find more stable work at the 700-acre Trilith Studios or Tyler Perry Studios in the heart of Atlanta.
Long a mecca for hip-hop artists and Black creators, Atlanta has also become increasingly popular with public figures from all walks of life. The undisputed media king of Atlanta — Tyler Perry — recently completed an astounding 100 million estate on 2,100 acres in the city of Douglasville, near his 330-acre studio complex. “Minari” filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung is in talks to direct “Twisters,” the sequel to the 1996 storm-chasing blockbuster starring Helen Hunt and the late Bill Paxton.
News broke in October that Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment had accelerated development on the project, with Mark L. Smith (“The Revenant”) signed on to write the sequel’s screenplay and Frank Marshall (“Jurassic World Dominion”) attached to produce through his Kennedy/Marshall Company. “Twisters” will be co-financed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Chung is best known as the writer and director of 2020’s “Minari,” the intimate semi-autobiographical family drama about a Korean family navigating life on an Arkansas farm in the 1980s. The film went on to earn six Academy Award nominations, including for best picture. Chung himself was nominated for best director and best original screenplay, while the film’s star Yuh-Jung Youn made history with her best supporting actress Oscar win. The filmmaker...

Sometimes life imitates art, and other times, art imitates life. In the case of "Less Than Zero," it's impossible to miss the glaring similarities between star Robert Downey Jr. and his character Julian Wells. Loosely based on Bret Easton Ellis' debut novel of the same name, the 1987 film is, on its surface, about rich white kids doing too many drugs in Los Angeles. However, "Less Than Zero" is a powerful story about addiction that boasts unforgettable performances from Andrew McCarthy, Jami Gertz, and especially Robert Downey Jr. It's also beautifully shot by cinematographer Edward Lachman, who would later go on to earn Oscar nominations for his work on "Far From Heaven" and "Carol." Plus, the film has a great soundtrack.
"Less Than Zero" follows Clay (McCarthy), as he comes home from college to find his former girlfriend Blair (Gertz) and his best friend Julian not only sleeping together, but also...

"Can't believe we didn't think this part all the way through." Amazon has revealed a second trailer for the romantic comedy I Want You Back, arriving on Prime Video just in time for Valentine's Day this month. They're really hoping that people will choose to watch this for their Valentine's Day date night, but I'm not so sure. Here's the entirely unoriginal concept: Newly dumped thirty-somethings Peter and Emma team up to sabotage their exes' new relationships and win them back for good. Jenny Slate and Charlie Day co-star, with an ensemble cast including Gina Rodriguez, Manny Jacinto, Scott Eastwood, Isabel May, Jami Gertz, Clark Backo, and Dylan Gelula. The first trailer launched back in December, and this new trailer isn't that much better. There's not that many funny moments at all, and the rest of it seems so bland. Here's the second trailer (+ another poster) for Jason Orley's I Want You Back,...

Charlie Day and Scott Eastwood in I Want You Back will premiere exclusively on Prime Video February 11, 2022 in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Check out this hilarious trailer:
Peter (Charlie Day) and Emma (Jenny Slate) are total strangers, but when they meet, one thing instantly bonds them: they were both unexpectedly dumped by their respective partners, Anne (Gina Rodriguez) and Noah (Scott Eastwood), on the same weekend. As the saying goes, “misery loves company,” but their commiseration turns into a mission when they see on social media that their exes have happily moved on to new romances, Anne with Logan (Manny Jacinto) and Noah with Ginny (Clark Backo).
Terrified that, in their 30s, they have lost their shot at happily ever after and horrified at the prospect of having to start over, Peter and Emma hatch a desperate plot to win the loves of their lives back. Each will...

"Look at you, good work." "Yeah man, I'm a psycho!" Amazon has unveiled the first official trailer for the romantic comedy I Want You Back, arriving on Prime Video in February for streaming just in time for Valentine's Day evening. How's this for an "original" concept we've never ever seen before? Newly dumped thirty-somethings Peter and Emma team up to sabotage their exes' new relationships and win them back for good. Haven't we seen this before already? Jenny Slate and Charlie Day co-star in this, with an ensemble cast including Gina Rodriguez, Manny Jacinto, Scott Eastwood, Isabel May, Jami Gertz, Clark Backo, and Dylan Gelula. This does looks cute and fun and light-hearted, despite the sadness of break-up. And there's a few good awkward moments in the trailer that will make everyone cringe-laugh. Check it out. This American Horror Story: Double Feature review contains spoilers.
American Horror Story Season 10 Episodes 1 and 2
For 1984, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk channeled their inner Sean S. Cunningham in order to craft a campy, funny, bloody ode to classic slasher movies from Friday the 13th to Sleepaway Camp. From the very opening moments of this season, in which a car sweeps down a deserted two-lane highway along a cold, frosty beach, the first half of American Horror Story: Double Feature, dubbed “Red Tide”, evokes nothing more strongly than the works of Stephen King and Joe Hill. It’s hard to do anything related to New England and horror without running into the King family, and rather than attempt to run from the obvious influences, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk lean in and give the people what they want from the very first frames.

Exclusive: Ruby Cruz (Castle Rock) has landed the female co-lead opposite Ellie Bamber and Erin Kellyman in Willow, Disney+ and Lucasfilm’s upcoming TV series follow-up to the 1988 fantasy movie, with the film’s star Warwick Davis reprising his title role, I have learned. She replaced Cailee Spaeny, who had been originally tapped for the role, after an extensive recasting process. Lucasfilm declined comment.
The new incarnation of Willow, which also co-stars Tony Revolori, comes from Jonathan Kasdan, who wrote the pilot and serves as co-showrunner alongside Wendy Mericle; the original film’s director Ron Howard and writer Bob Dolman; as well as Lucasfilm, which produced the movie. The Willow movie, written by Dolman from a story by George Lucas, starred Davis as a reluctant farmer who leads a ragtag crew on a quest to protect a special baby from a tyrannical queen who vows to destroy her.

Along with Slate and Day, the ensemble cast includes “The Good Place” star Manny Jacinto, Gina Rodriguez and Scott Eastwood. Clark Backo, Jami Gertz, Jordan Carlos, Midori Francis, Mason Gooding, Isabel May and Luke David Blumm also appear in the film.

The appealingly atmospheric crime thriller Alphabet City (1984) debuts on Blu-ray this fall courtesy of Fun City Editions. Directed by Amos Poe, with a script by Poe, Gregory K. Heller (additional dialogue is credited to Robert Seidman), Alphabet City belongs in the company of After Hours and Into The Night (both 1985) as one of the ultimate ’80s nightmare nocturnes, and it is downright, well, criminal that Alphabet City is not better remembered today. Hopefully this Blu-ray will work towards amending that.

It’s been a while since I penned a Which is Better article on here, so, as seen as Summer is making me wish Autumn was here, and I’m counting down the days for the Halloween season, I figured I’d go back to two of my favourite vampire movies ever, and pit them against each other in this almost-pointless-because-it’s-subjective-anyway battle of evil versus evil, vamp versus vamp. Fright Night versus The Lost Boys.
*Cue People are Strange by The Doors*
Ok, so I grew up with The Lost Boys on my television set and the record of the soundtrack echoing from the stereo system. I have always had a lot of fondness for the 80s glam-vamp teen-comedy that featured some of the big names from the era, with Keifer Sutherland in the role of head-but-not-quite-head vampire, David, Jason Patrick and Corey Haim as brothers Micheal and Sam,...

“One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach … All the damn vampires.”
-Grandpa (Barnard Hughes), The Lost Boys
I respectfully disagree with Grandpa’s sentiment. My favorite part about watching the faux coastal fantasia of Santa Carla is all the damn vampires. Despite being very much a time capsule capturing a certain place and cultural moment, The Lost Boys is simultaneously, a bit paradoxically, as immortal as its titular teenage vampires when it comes to being a genre staple. The 1987 horror comedy was helmed by the late great Joel Schumacher, who passed away on June 22nd. It is being celebrated today ahead of its return to Southern California theaters this Thursday at the Mission Tiki Drive-In, on a double bill with that other terrific ’80s vampire horror comedy, Fright Night (1985). It’s hard to articulate just how special and singular The Lost Boys is, but I have to try.

This week, the gang at How Did This Get Made? covered The Boyfriend School, a 1990 romantic comedy starring Steve Guttenberg, Shelley Long and Jami Gertz. To better understand how (and why) this film got made, I spoke with the film’s editor, Marshall Harvey, and its producer, George Braunstein. Given that George Braunstein hasn’t produced a […]

Twister, the 1996 blockbuster hit, is set to conjure a new vaunted vortex on the big screen, thanks to plans for—get ready for it—a reboot movie.
Universal Pictures, which co-produced the original film, is spearheading a Twister reboot effort, and is in talks to tap Joseph Kosinski to direct, according to Variety. While there’s currently no script or even plot details in place, the studio is reportedly meeting with writers. Additionally, the legendary Frank Marshall is attached to produce the picture.
Manifesting as an archetypal effects-heavy blockbuster, Twister focused on weather-chasing meteorologist Jo Harding (Helen Hunt), who, armed with a team and state-of-the-art equipment, is determined to gather valuable data on a tornado headed for Oklahoma with potential to reach F5 status, similar to the one that claimed her father’s life when she was a child. However, Jo’s pursuit of her proverbial white whale is complicated...
