It is a sad state of affairs in Hollywood when you can have such talented actors as Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard, but the best you can do is stick them in boomer-baiting forgettable comedic contrivances like Summer Camp, the latest in a long line of movies for Keaton, who also is a producer on it, in which she is cast with female peers of similar age to mix slapschtick with attempted pathos and senior romance. It is the kind of formula you can sell with a simple pitch: Take three beloved septuagenarian Oscar winning and nominated stars and send them back to the summer camp where they bonded as kids. Hilarity and hijinks ensue, along with giving each a later-in-life regret or dead husband to add a bit of drama to the proceedings. Bingo! The mid-week matinees will be sellouts!

Adria Arjona and Glen Powell may have some very steamy scenes in “Hit Man,” but filming them was anything but sexy.
It all went wrong when they were shooting in a bathtub and someone added Dawn dish washing soap to the water. “That strips you of all your oils of your skin,” Arjona says on this week’s episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast. “That’s used for baby ducks when there’s an oil spill for God’s sake. We soaked in this bathtub for an hour and I get out of the tub and all of a sudden I dry myself and I can’t bend my knees because I have no oils.”
She was not only in pain, but she and Powell ended up covered in nasty rashes. But the show had to go on. “That was the day that we filmed all of our sex...

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming Parmount+ series Landman is already coming back for Season 2. Actress Demi Moore has confirmed this and has a few details about the series. What did she have to say?
Demi Moore Reveals Landman Season 2
Although Demi Moore is in Cannes to promote her new movie The Substance, she has revealed some news about her upcoming Paramount+ series Landman. Speaking to Deadline, she shared that the Taylor Sheridan series is returning for Season 2 in early 2025. She also teased a bit about the premise of this new series.
It is a very interesting world in the boomtown of Fort Worth, Texas. It’s kind of this subculture that we haven’t seen before, which is what I think Taylor does so well.
In this series, she plays “an oil tycoon’s wife…lots of nice clothes.” Therefore, fans should expect Demi all glammed up. She also...

The overriding message this market? “There’s a lot”.
“A few weeks ago we thought there would a decent amount but, wow, there’s a lot”, one packaging agent told us.

Those international distributors have re-stabilised their business somewhat, more so than the streamers. We’ll know more in a week but at the moment there are plenty of decently priced projects with meaningful actors, directors and scripts, and there is a good spread of projects.”
There’s Kristen Stewart returning on a vampire movie, Dwayne Johnson in a big-budget A24 wrestling movie, Mahershalah Ali in a gritty big-canvas crime movie, a couple of Jason Statham projects for those who want brawn, historical drama with Russell Crowe, a YA empowerment pic with Chris Pratt,...

Kevin Costner was a rising young actor featuring in minor roles in the early 80s. The future superstar was on the verge of stardom by the mid-80s and was cast in two films that would become his breakout hits. First, he was cast in Roger Donaldson’s action thriller No Way Out. After finishing that film, he was approached by director Brian De Palma for the crime drama The Untouchables.
Kevin Costner and Gene Hackman in No Way Out
Costner was not a big name at the time but Paramount and De Palma seem to know the potential that he had. No Way Out had also not come out yet and the studio led with a generous $800,000 offer for the role of Eliot Ness in The Untouchables. Costner, knowing the responsibility of playing a real-life American hero bargained his way to increase his pay to $1 million.

Andy Garcia was much more of a gentleman with Bridget Fonda in “The Godfather Part III” than he was with Joe Mantegna.
Garcia said during “The Pete and Sebastian Show” that his co-star Fonda was “nervous” to be fully nude for a scene in the 1990 Francis Ford Coppola feature. Garcia instead suggested that she wear his coat, which is what we see on film.
“Bridget Fonda was extraordinary to work with, and that’s my coat she’s wearing,” Garcia recalled. “That’s my coat. And initially, you know, they wanted her to be, you know, naked. And she was very nervous. And I said, ‘No, no. She’s not gonna be naked, no. Come on.'”
Garcia continued, “I said to [costume designer] Milena Canonero, I said, ‘Milena, why doesn’t she just wear my leather coat. It’s on the bed, it’s on the floor. Let her come out in my coat.

After the March 28 friends, family, and industry screening for Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” at Universal’s CityWalk AMC in IMAX, reactions were wild. Some said it was his most ambitious film since “Apocalypse Now;” another described it to Puck as “batshit crazy.” Made for $120 million and bankrolled entirely by Coppola through the sale of one of his vineyards, it incorporates new VFX techniques — ones, the filmmakers hope, will be seen on the biggest screens possible.
For that to happen, it will need a major theatrical deal and the filmmakers are now in talks with distributors and major studios. However, those entities have been particularly risk averse these days — and while Coppola is a legend, he hasn’t made a commercial success in three decades.
The film’s stars include Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, and Giancarlo Esposito; maybe, say, Paramount or Universal want to be back in the Coppola business.

Believe it or not, even the most beloved movies can face initial skepticism from actors. Field of Dreams, a 1989 classic, became more than just a sports movie. It delved into deeper themes like redemption, family, and the importance of pursuing dreams. Despite its universal appeal, Ray Liotta, who played the memorable character “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, wasn’t immediately sold on the story.

Francis Ford Coppola is considered one of the leading figures of the New Hollywood film movement in the 1960s and ’70s. After graduating from the UCLA Film School, he worked on several projects in the early 1960s and made his first feature-length film, Dementia 13 in 1963.
Francis Ford Coppola and Marlon Brando on the sets of The Godfather
There have been numerous instances in the industry when filmmakers have struggled to bring their ideas to the big screen because the studios did not like them. Copolla was no exception. Long before he gained acclaim with The Godfather in 1972, the legendary director was determined to debase the studio system which often tended to suppress his visions for cinema.
Luckily, he has finally achieved that with his self-funded film Megalopolis, and viewers are moved to the core after watching it.

Expendables 4 or Expend4bles was the final nail in the coffin for the renowned Sylvester Stallone action franchise that made a name for bringing some iconic stars together on screen. The Ocean’s trilogy of movies is confirmed for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK, with a release pencilled in for the end of April: more here.
Steven Soderbergh’s trilogy of Ocean’s films – Ocean’s 11, Ocean’s 12, Ocean’s 13 – brought together a starry ensemble cast for a trio of crime caper movies. Really successful ones at that, even if the sort-of twist in Ocean’s 12 continues to have a degree of Wtf did they really do that about it.
Ocean’s 11 in particular though is a an absolute treat, and there’s much to enjoy across the three films, which as coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK for the first time.

Some movies can be so iconic that they accidentally end up damaging their own genre in the long run. For instance, we’re all aware of how cyberpunk has been living in the shadow of Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner since 1984, with it being nearly impossible to tell a story about a futuristic dystopia without bringing out the flying cars and neon signage. Fortunately, there are exceptions to this rule, and one of my personal favorites happens to be Kathryn Bigelow’s 1995 sci-fi thriller Strange Days.
A genre-bending murder mystery that takes place in the “distant” future of 1999, this special little film has aged spectacularly well despite its pre-millennial DNA, tackling pertinent issues like race relations and police corruption while also telling a surprisingly engaging love story. This is precisely why I think revisiting this retro-futuristic New Year’s extravaganza is the perfect way to start off 2024 with a bang.

Directed and co-written by Sylvester Stallone, The Expendables was a hit when it was released in 2010, drawing in viewers who wanted to see an old school action movie that allowed Stallone to share the screen with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis for the first time. Two years later, The Expendables 2 was even more successful, and many fans feel that film is where the concept really reached its potential. Mistakes were made on 2014’s The Expendables 3 that could have been easily fixed with a fourth film, which should have come along after a couple years. Instead, it took nine years for Expend4bles to happen… and when it did, with Scott Waugh at the helm, Stallone not only didn’t have a writing credit, but he was barely even in the movie. Expend4bles was a box office failure. But franchise cast member Dolph Lundgren thinks we might still see The Expendables 5 someday.

Dolph Lundgren thinks that 'The Expendables 4' failed for a multitude of reasons. The 66-year-old actor reprised his role as Gunner Jensen in the action film that disappointed both critics and audiences and thinks that a mediocre script as well as a lack of creative involvement from Sylvester Stallone contributed to the poor response to the picture.Dolph told Screen Rant: "That project had issues from the beginning, and it usually starts with the script, it really didn't have a good script."I'm not playing the lead, so it's hard for me to weigh in on some of the issues, but I know Stallone wasn't involved, like he usually is. He just played a character in it, and when he's in charge, the quality is going to be pretty good, it doesn't drop below a certain level."But he wasn't involved, so I think the problem was with the script,...

The Expendables” franchise is an action-packed delight that stands unmatched in its intensity and adrenaline rush ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
“The Expendables” is one of Hollywood’s most famous and successful action franchises ever. It is known for its very dynamic action sequences and a star-studded ensemble cast with actors renowned for their roles in action movies, with a hint of comic relief woven into the mix. The most exciting part about this franchise is that it is directed by the man of action.
Sylvester Stallone created this whole franchise to pay homage to the action films of ‘his time.’ And to prove that, he assembled nearly every prominent actor associated with the action genre. The movies consist of, of course, Sylvester Stallone, in addition to Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Randy Couture in the titular roles. Abigail Breslin is subtle as the 1960s victim of sexual crime in a dramatisation of a landmark case that is a welcome defence of US jurisprudence

On Dec. 20, 1990, Francis Ford Coppola unveiled The Godfather: Part III at its premiere at the Academy Theater in Beverly Hills. The film went on to gross $136 million globally and nab seven Oscar nominations at the 63rd Academy Awards. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:
It’s business, and personal. A complex depiction of Michael Corleone’s dying-days attempt to cement the family in the “legitimate” business world and attain spiritual redemption, this third installment of the Corleone Family chronicle is a full-bodied, albeit somber dramatic orchestration.
However, legitimacy has its price — respectability exacts a grayness and a tempering of one’s style and substance — and this splendidly conceived, although often confusing saga, is itself vulnerable to the dramatic doldrums of Michael’s venture into “respectable” dominions.

With The Mask of Zorro, Antonio Banderas truly marked himself as a genuine star and sex symbol across the globe. While he earned acclaim for his collaborations with Pedro Almodóvar in Spain and made his presence known in the States with Philadelphia and Interview with the Vampire, The Mask of Zorro was his first leading role to near $100 million at the domestic box office. George Clooney is teasing a potential Ocean’s Eleven sequel that could be in the works as he has a “good script” in his hands.
During a recent interview, the actor who played Danny Ocean in the Steven Soderbergh-directed films hinted there could be more heists coming up.
“We have a really good script for another Ocean’s now, so we may end up doing another one. It’s actually a great script,” Clooney told Uproxx.
When the reporter asked if the film would be titled Ocean’s Fourteen, Clooney added, “Well … I don’t want to call it that… I mean, the idea is kind of like Going In Style.”
The Ocean’s universe is expanding, with a prequel to the 2001 film in the works starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Danny Ocean’s parents. Clooney also gave his thoughts on having Robbie and Gosling play his parents in the prequel.

The film gods are a fickle bunch. If the flip of the coin had landed on a different outcome at various points in Hollywood history, the entire landscape of cinema as we know it could be completely changed. In fact, movie star Tom Cruise is something of a cottage industry to himself when it comes to major roles that he could've signed on for, but ended up little more than fascinating notes of trivia -- in our universe, at least. There's the infamous "Iron Man" scenario that could've seen him suit up as Tony Stark instead of Robert Downey, Jr., of course, along with the near-miss of starring in the classic "Shawshank Redemption." But there's one other little-known factoid that completes this little trilogy of alternate-history Cruise projects: one where he could've been cast as the lead of "The Mask of Zorro," incredibly enough.

2023 may have been a great year for movies, but not even Oppenheimer could have made a bigger bomb this year than the long-delayed fourth adventure for Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham’s action superteam: The Expendables 4 (aka EXPEND4BLES)!
It’s been nine long years since Expendables 3 let action fans down with its toned down PG-13 rating, but Stallone promised to make it worth the wait with his final R-rated turn at age 77 as Barney Ross, handing over the guns and grenades for most of the film to Statham’s Lee Christmas as he and the new team stop a villainous mercenary and the rogue CIA agent he’s working for (who may or may not be a visibly bored Andy Garcia) from kicking off World War III. Unfortunately, the cast lineup they have to work with exchanges actual action stars like Bruce and Arnold for the youth friendly...

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie directors! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between.
Today we speak with the great Andrew Davis, director of The Fugitive (now available on 4K Uhd and Digital). We chat about his favorite days during the production of the iconic Harrison Ford thriller, some of his B-Sides and the trajectory of his career in general.
There’s his debut feature, the bluesy ensemble piece Stony Island. There’s the movie he got to make after his meteoric success: Steal Big Steal Little. And then there’s the Coast Guard action drama The Guardian from 2006, which Davis claims had better test screening scores than any movie in the history of Touchstone Pictures.
His 1998 thriller A Perfect Murder is discussed, and Davis explains why he was never as...

The Expendables 4 is coming to physical media in time for Christmas.
The Expendables 4 – or The Expend4bles, if you really must – wasn’t quite the franchise resurrection that its backers had been hoping for. Arriving nine years after somebody decided that a PG-13 version of The Expendables 3 was a good idea, the sequel at least didn’t make that mistake again. Instead, it made some new ones.
Still, if you missed the movie in cinemas and want to catch up on the series, then the fourth film, with its clunky title, is heading to DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK this December.
December 11th 2023, to be exact, with a 15 certificate on the box. No confirmation yet of any extra features though, although in fairness, we’re long past the days where we tend to get a press release or anything about the majority of physical media releases.
