Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
Best Movie in Mad Max Franchise
I didn't think they could top Fury Road, but they did. I didn't think Taylor-Joy would pull off a young Furiosa after how well Theron played the part. But she did, stellar performance.
The real surprise is Hemsworth. Best performance of his career in my opinion. Didn't think his character as the villain could be played with such depth - he was perfectly cast, and wouldn't be surprised if he gets several best supporting actor nods during award season.
The quality of the acting overall was a surprise, but I expected awesome action sequences, and it didn't disappoint: the War Rig fight scene is just awesome. Miller and his team stepped it up even more from Fury Road, still giving the same look and feel of the brutal Wasteland, but with even more grittiness and realism, obviously taking advantage of advances in production since 2015.
Overall it is one of those rare prequels that is better than what was already a great sequel. I can't wait to watch it again when it is out on streaming and watch Fury Road immediately after.
Outer Range (2022)
Y'all need new TV complaining "it's too dark"
If you have a good TV, this isn't "too dark", it's obviously part of the cinematography... it's the point of the show. If it's "too dark you can't see" it's because you have a crappy TV or it's not set right. Set it to "vivid" or similar mode. Seriously, sum y'all just dumb...
1883 (2021)
Griping, authentic, moving, couldn't take my eyes of it...
Y: 1883 so far is masterfully done. The characters pull you in, the cinematography and score are beautiful, the acting is strong, and above all it feels authentic.
Taylor Sheridan has delivered. It is awesome to see the origin of the Dutton Ranch and the Dutton family. Yellowstone is such an awesome show, and Y:1883 makes both even more enthralling to watch. I can't wait to see more, and I'll definitely be logged onto Paramount Plus every week!
Dune (2021)
Wow... will change culture, like Star Wars did...
Ok... so this is the next Star Wars, the next "Marvel" franchise, but even bigger, better, and critically different. It is Oscar Worthy, it's worthy of our next evolution as film viewers, and further connective tissue to bring us together. It is exciting to see the next evolution in what influences popular culture for decades to come. It's the same magic as Star Wars, but, as noted, critically different. It's just utterly beautifully done. It's perfect. It's legendary. The direction is almost perfect. It'll never be perfect. But the tone, tenor, pace, decision not to use stupid humor, is perfect. They capture a Zeitgeist in this film, like Star Wars did. Sure Dune was written around the same time Star Wars, but Dune's time is now. It's vision is fully realized while changing it for the better, tapping into the core values we have always held. This was never shared, to those always on the outside, in Star Wars. The director of Star Wars was a product of their time, sadly, even as they tried to descend it. So please do not forget the first tine you saw Dune 2021. Because it's one of those moments that will change culture. Witness history.
