The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Some people will LOVE this!
...but they aren't those who know anything about Tolkien's legendarium or writing.
This is definitely a show born of it's time. It was written with the ideology and political leanings of current day Hollywood writ large across it. As such, there was no room left for the authentic story telling of Tolkien or the Silmarillion (pretty much the antithesis of this), which chronicles the 2nd age of middle earth, of which this series is set. You can hardly blame Amazon for that though, they don't have the rights to it... the intelligent thing then, you might think, would be to not have written the story of the 2nd age.
This credits amazon with some semblance of intelligence... I suppose.
Firestarter (2022)
Another Stephen King 'adaptation'
As a film, it's 'ok'. It is short enough that it's not a borefest, and is adequate for telling 'a story'. Enjoyable enough and passes the time without feeling like I wanted to turn it off. I enjoyed it well enough, but it really could have been so much better.
Everyone involved is capable of doing better than they did, but in the end the best thing I can say is that it wasn't 'Terrible'.
The Lazarus Project (2022)
A slow burner that picks up after a couple of episodes and just builds... and BUILDS!
Wow, I binged this one. I was dubious at first, the first episode was interesting but I wasn't completely sure. After episode three though, I was really enjoying it, and from that point all I can say is that it really builds well. The tone and momentum really gets you hooked. I watched it all in one sitting and now I'm waiting desperately for the next season!
REALLY enjoyable and worth biting into.
9/10 for me.
