On June 4, Aventura - the timeless bachata band that consists of Romeo Santos, Henry Santos, Lenny Santos, and Max Santos - hit the stage at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, as part of their reunion tour Cerrando Ciclos. They had already performed at the venue two nights in a row, as well as played a show at Madison Square Garden on May 23. With an audience filled with mostly Dominicans - many of them proudly waving their flags - it was remarkable to see how a genre that was once associated with the bars and brothels of lower-income neighborhoods in the countryside of the Dominican Republic has become such a global phenomenon. And it was Aventura, a boy band formed by four Dominican teenagers in the 1990s, that would completely revolutionize bachata beyond what any of them could have originally envisioned.

Zoe Saldaña is one of the few Hollywood stars whose reputation undoubtedly precedes her. As such, her work not only stands out as a product of her excellent ethics but also an irrevocable personality that drives her to achieve perfection in every single role she embodies. But such quality of work doesnʼt breed out of compliance and pleasantness.
Zoe Saldaña in Special Ops: Lioness [Credit: Paramount Network]For the Avatar star, it took incredible strength and bravery to pursue work in an industry that makes it their daily mission to promote misogyny. Saldaña has hardly kept quiet in the past about the difficult working environment on Pirates of the Caribbean sets and she isnʼt about to do so now as she makes explosive revelations about the openly vile nature of studio execs.

After over a year and a half of negotiations, Condé Nast and a union representing hundreds of its workers officially have a first labor contract.
In a ratification vote that took place on Tuesday, 97 percent of Condé Union members voted “yes” on a three-year deal announced by negotiators on May 6. The agreement, which averted a threatened strike from workers at the May 6 Met Gala, boosts wages by $3.6 million in total and converts company permalancers into full-time staff members, according to the union.
Some 550 Condé Nast workers at publications including Vanity Fair, Vogue, GQ, Bon Appétit, Allure, Architectural Digest, Condé Nast Traveler, Epicurious, Glamour, Teen Vogue, Self and Condé Nast Entertainment belong to the Condé Union and are covered under the contract. Shonda Rhimes argues that 'Barbie' "didn't need to be" a "feminist manifesto".The 'Bridgerton' producer admits that she enjoyed last year's blockbuster featuring Margot Robbie as the iconic toy doll but was disgruntled with the cultural discourse that put unnecessary expectations on the flick.Speaking to Variety, Shonda explained: "Ok, here's what I'll say. If you're expecting a 'Barbie' movie, then I thought it was great."But I think a lot of people were expecting so much more, and then tried to make it so much more. "There was nothing wrong with the movie; I thought it was totally delightful. But the weight people put on a movie about Barbie was very interesting to me."I've heard the song 'I'm Just Ken' in my house every single day because one of my kids sings it all the time. There's no arguing that Shakira is a feminist icon. Entering the year on the heels of a very public split from her long-term partner and the father of her two sons, Gerard Piqué, she managed to take a painful experience and turn it into a shared triumph. Her latest studio album, "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran," is a testament to independence and the strength that comes with it. It's a sentiment that many, especially women, will be able to relate to. In her recent Allure cover interview published on April 1, Shakira delves into what that strength looks like and what it means to be a woman healing today. But one thing that stood out from the interview was the singer's controversial take on another feminist pop culture pillar: the "Barbie" movie.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie was one of the biggest hits of 2023. The film was received well by both fans and critics, also receiving numerous awards and nominations. But, while the film was praised by most for its approach to feminist themes, not everyone was satisfied with how the movie tackled this issue. And while it did not surprise us that some men expressed their disdain, there were some issues on the female side as well.

The Colombian pop star – and mother of two boys – disliked the global blockbuster, saying its message robs men of chance to ‘protect and provide’
In an unlikely dissension from what has become a critical and commercial consensus, Colombian musician Shakira has said that the Barbie movie is “emasculating” and suggested that it “rob[s] men of their possibility to be men”.

Shakira is not a big fan of last year’s biggest film.
“My sons absolutely hated it,” the singer told Allure magazine of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. “They felt that it was emasculating. And I agree, to a certain extent.”
The Grammy winner went on to elaborate.
“I’m raising two boys. I want ’em to feel powerful too [while] respecting women. I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide. I believe in giving women all the tools and the trust that we can do it all without losing our essence, without losing our femininity. I think that men have a purpose in society and women have another purpose as well. We complement each other, and that complement should not be lost.”
That doesn’t mean, she said, that the patriarchy isn’t real.

Contentious contract negotiations between publishing giant Condé Nast and the union representing staffers at many of its magazines spilled over Wednesday when staffers marched to the New York City offices of the company’s CEO.
The action by members of Condé Union comes after it criticized Tuesday’s negotiations over the first contract since the NewsGuild union received certification in 2022. According to the union, during the talks, management threatened to add five additional layoffs to a proposed list and possibly more.
After the company announced layoffs affecting 5% of staffers last November, talks with the union yielded a higher percentage of union members who could be affected. According to the union, the company proposed to lay off 94 union members, about 20% of the union’s membership.
Negotiations are set to resume on Thursday.
A rep for Condé Nast, when contacted by Deadline, did not offer any initial comment on the back and forth with the union.

There's a reason why we're still talking about America Ferrera's "Barbie" monologue months after the blockbuster was released. While presenting the Best Supporting Actress award during the 2024 Oscars, Rita Moreno gave an emotional speech about Ferrera, who was nominated for her role of Gloria in the pink-filled film. While Ferrera didn't wind up taking home an Oscar - the award instead went to Da'Vine Joy Randolph for her role in "The Holdovers" - Moreno's speech left folks in the audience trying to understand why.
"America. Your powerful Barbie monologue is perhaps the most talked-about moment in the most talked-about movie of the past year," Moreno said. "Your words and the passion with which you delivered them about the most impossible standards females must try to live up to galvanized not only women but everyone with a pulse."

Oliver Jackson-Cohen’s string of Netflix hits includes 2018’s “The Haunting of Hill House” and 2020’s “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” two Mike Flanagan-created horror series that garnered the 37-year-old actor a global popularity he’d never seen prior to starring in Netflix originals. He parlayed the success of these series into a film career that spanned both streaming and theatrical hits (Universal’s 2020 reimagining of “The Invisible Man”).
But is Jackson-Cohen a star? The actor recently joined The Independent for an interview where he briefly touched upon life as a performer who is “Netflix famous,” which he basically summed up as star power that lacks any kind of actual longevity cause it’s always on to the next.
“[Being] Netflix famous…It’s quite an interesting thing,” he said. “You’re the most famous person in the world for a while and then the next show comes along and that completely takes over.

Charlize Theron is dismissing rumors that she got a facelift, while also discussing how the aging process has made it more complicated to address weight gain and stunts for roles.
In a recent interview with Allure magazine, The Old Guard star took the rumor mill to task while discussing aging in Hollywood as the face of a number of high-profile ad campaigns, including the upcoming launch for Dior’s L’Or de J’Adore. Theron expressed that while her “face is changing,” she loves that as well as that she’s “aging” visibly. Her one qualm is observers who claim she’s had cosmetic procedures done to her face.
“People think I had a facelift. They’re like, ‘What did she do to her face?’ I’m like, ‘Bitch, I’m just aging! It doesn’t mean I got bad plastic surgery. This is just what happens,'” the Fast X actress said.

And they don’t really want to see me in a romantic thing,” Jennifer – who has starred in films such as ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ and ‘Yes Day’ – told Allure magazine.

You'd think some celebrity kids would be in awe of having two famous actors for parents, but not Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck's children. The former couple, who divorced after 10 years of marriage in June 2015, share three children together: 17-year-old Violet, 13-year-old Seraphina, and 10-year-old Samuel. And according to Garner, they're not big fans of her onscreen projects, unlike their dad's.
In her May cover story with Allure, Garner explained, "They don't mind watching their dad, but they kind of want me to be their mom," after revealing that her kids don't love watching her movies. She added, "They don't want to see me upset and women cry more in what we do. And they don't really want to see me in a romantic thing." So that likely rules out Garner's films like 2004's "13 Going on 30," 2009's "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past," and 2010's "Valentine's Day."

Science fiction films -- especially ones featuring aliens -- require a suspension of disbelief. Filmmakers use all of the gadgets in their toolbox -- plot, dialogue, score, costuming, and more -- to convince audiences that they're aboard a fantastical, futuristic, or far-away world. Fans appreciate it when alien designs use makeup effects, so a creature feels like it exists in three-dimensional space. There's even a reality show dedicated to this concept: in SyFy's "Face Off," special effects designers compete to see who can create and apply the best look for their models.
Makeup artists and directors often like practical effects as much as fans. "Guardians of the Galaxy" special effects makeup designer David White told Fast Company, "James [Gunn] always pushed for practical and makeup effects. He wanted, like me, to see the real deal there on set." Some of the best alien effects can make it hard to see...

Millie Bobby Brown is officially a college girl! In a new interview with Allure magazine, Brown revealed that she’s decided to enroll as an online student at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana — the same state her hit show “Stranger Things” is famously based in.

Elsewhere in the interview, Brown discussed the platform her massively successful role as Eleven on the Netflix series has given her.

In the past, the 18-year-old star has been transparent about how she handles life in the spotlight and its detriment (case in point: the hypersexualization she's endured since coming of age). However, in her September cover interview for Allure, Brown gets candid about how people's perception of her has impacted the way she views herself.
"It helped to be able to understand that I don't need to be anything they said that I need to be."
"It's really hard to be hated on when you don't know who you are yet," she told the outlet. "So it's like, 'What do they hate about me? Cause I don't know who I am.' It's almost like, 'Okay, I'm going to try being this today.

Have mercy on Chlöe Bailey—she's admittedly a little new to the dating game. The singer got candid about her love life in her cover story for Allure's June/July 2022 issue, sharing that since she was homeschooled during her teenage years, she never got a chance to date around and now finds herself "getting into that world and learning the ways of men." There are few people in the world who can just go by three letters, but still J.Lo doesn’t feel like she’s quite at the top of the industry.
“I think I’m an underdog,” Jennifer Lopez revealed to Rolling Stone. “I always feel like I’m scraping from the bottom.”
While Lopez may seem like the definition of Hollywood A-list — performing at the Super Bowl, dating former flame (and Oscar winner) Ben Affleck — the “Marry Me” actress admitted there are certain stereotypes she just can’t shake.
“I always felt like I wasn’t the one that was supposed to be in the room. That’s part of being Puerto Rican and from the Bronx and a woman,” Lopez said. “Not being born into a family with money. Not knowing anybody in the business. I just went out there and said, ‘Fuck it. I’m going to just try.
