Sabrina Carpenter is a master of the art of the music video and her clip for “Please Please Please” is no exception. The storyline for the video might be a little confusing to viewers who aren’t huge fans of the “Espresso” singer. Carpenter revealed that the music video for “Please Please Please” was connected to one of her previous hits. Interestingly, “Please Please Please” also drew inspiration from a number of classic movies.
Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Please Please Please’ is a sequel to ‘Espresso’
According to a 2024 Vogue article, Carpenter reflected on the popularity of her single “Espresso.” “I’m feeling like I will never pay for another coffee again, and I’m so grateful and excited for people to hear the whole record,” she said. “It’s so close to me!”
The “Nonsense” singer said that the “Please Please Please” singer was a sequel to the “Espresso” video.

Travis Scott has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit over unlicensed samples, with the rapper’s lawyers claiming the allegedly infringed-upon sample — the phrase “alright, alright, alright” from the 1992 DJ Jimi song “Bitches (Reply)” — does not warrant copyright protections.
Scott was sued earlier this year by Derrick Ordogne and Dion Norman, who wrote “Bitches (Reply).” According to the complaint obtained by Rolling Stone, the song’s opening “Alright” refrain has been widely sampled over the years (Beyonce’s “Church Girl,” Lil Wayne’s “Start this Shit Off Right,” and...

Normani Channeled Janet, Recruited Brandy, and Put ‘Absolutely Everything’ Into Her Album ‘Dopamine’
About four years ago, Normani seemed to disappear. The 28-year-old artist, who made it big as part of the girl group Fifth Harmony, went solo after the group disbanded in 2018, and found success with collaborations alongside Sam Smith and Khalid. She toured with Ariana Grande and riled up fans with her first single, the instantly catchy “Motivation.”
And then, her momentum slowed down. Normani would pop onto the scene briefly, drop a single or two, and then fade away again. She dealt with some ups and downs that kept her from releasing consistent music,...

Rebel Wilson On Straight Actors Playing Gay Roles ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
During an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs broadcast on Sunday, 2 June, Pitch Perfect Star Rebel Wilson weighed in on the ongoing discourse on the unfairness of Straight actors playing gay roles.
While discussing double standards in comedy, host Lauren Laverne asked if women can get away with different jokes than men. In Response, Rebel Wilson recalled, “I’ve definitely told a lot of edgy jokes, and said them sometimes in very public places like the Baftas.”
Rebel Wilson then asserted this was not a gender issue, noting, “If you are something, then now you’re allowed to joke about it. So, say, if you are overweight, you can tell jokes. But if you’re not (you can’t), that’s kind of what’s currently happening. So it’s not really gendered.”

Netflix made some noise in the unscripted world when it hired Jeff Gaspin, the former NBCUniversal chief, as its new defacto reality boss earlier this year.
The hire ostensibly signaled that the streamer wanted to step up its unscripted efforts and take on the broadcast networks when it comes to buying big entertainment formats.
During his time as NBC’s head of alternative entertainment, he developed series including The Apprentice, The Biggest Loser and Deal or No Deal and after his promotion, his last act as Chairman of NBC Universal Television was buying The Voice, which other than The Masked Singer, was arguably the last major entertainment format to breakthrough on the broadcast nets.
Netflix is now doubling down on efforts to find its version of The Voice.
“The difference from the past is we want to focus on bigger formats, more of what you would call broadcast-style shows versus the cable style shows.

Rapper Cardi B recently revealed that she does not plan on endorsing President Joe Biden this year despite having done so in 2020.
Cardi said she’s felt “layers of disappointment” from the Biden administration, yet she does not support Trump’s policies either, she told Rolling Stone. Though she endorsed Biden during the 2020 election, the musician said she would not do so again, citing high inflation and lack of action on her priorities.
In 2020, Cardi interviewed Biden for Elle and encouraged him to focus on BLM issues.
“I feel like people got betrayed,” she said about the two candidates. “It’s just like, damn, y’all not caring about nobody. Then, it really gets me upset that there is solutions to it. There is a solution. I know there’s a solution because you’re spending billions of dollars on any f—— thing.”
In January 2023, she posted a video on social media criticizing high inflation.

Premiering out of Critics’ Week in Cannes, Alexis Langlois’ debut feature “Queens of Drama” is a musical blast of queer culture euphoria, telling a decades-spanning, impossible love story between a pair of pop idols who begin as fans and then become lovers, who climb the charts and permeate the culture as enemies, and who end up forgotten, as time moves forward and a new generation of teenage fans claim new idols for themselves.
The film’s familiar rise-and-fall rhythms struck a chord with filmmaker Alexis Langlois, who cites Vincente Minnelli and George Cukor as inspiration. “I wanted to offer a great, romantic story,” says Langlois. “Really, to give all these queer characters – and the queer actors who play them — a sense of grand romance by mixing the codes and memories of classic cinema with something much more modern.”

After providing vocal support for Bernie Sanders and then Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential primaries and election, Cardi B has no interest in getting involved in 2024. In her new Rolling Stone cover story, the rapper, political junkie, and occasional pundit discussed her disillusionment with all sides of the American political system, saying of Biden and Donald Trump: “I don’t fuck with both of y’all niggas.”
While Cardi said she saw Trump’s presidency as a major threat, she’s felt “layers and layers of disappointment” during the Biden administration.

The Drake-Kendrick Lamar showdown will continue — at the 2024 BET Awards.
The rappers will compete in two categories at the June 30 show: best male hip-hop artist and best collaboration. In the latter category, Drake is nominated for “Rich Baby Daddy” with Sza and Sexyy Red, while Lamar is nominated for his guest verse on the remix of Beyoncé’s “America Has a Problem.”
Drake is the show’s top contender with seven nominations, thanks to his album For All the Dogs (Scary Hours Edition). Lamar didn’t release an album that was eligible this year. The Canadian rapper’s other nominations include album of the year, best male R&b/pop artist and viewer’s choice for “Rich Baby Daddy.” He’s nominated twice in the video of the year category: “Rich Baby Daddy” and his guest verse on J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter,” the late 2023 track that reignited his feud with Lamar.
Cardi B revealed what she cherishes and what she finds challenging about her long, complicated relationship with Offset, describing it in her new Rolling Stone cover story as less a connection between married partners, than an intractable bond between best friends.
“We do love each other,” Cardi said. “It’s not even about love. We’re best friends. And it’s like, ‘Ok. Well, there was a time that I didn’t have a best friend, or I didn’t have a support system.’ It’s not even about ‘How do you leave a partner?...

Cardi B is makeup-free and draped in an orange, impossibly plush, queen-size blanket as she shuffles into Glenwood Place Studios in Burbank, California, around nine o’clock one evening in mid-March. Whatever hairstyle she currently has (knowing Cardi, it could be anything from a wig worth thousands to her fluffy, waist-length natural hair) is tucked under a giant bonnet, its magenta-and-teal geometric print immediately familiar from videos she’s posted on TikTok.

Cardi B addressed the backlash she has been receiving on social media since the Met Gala on Monday.
During an interview with Emma Chamberlain for Vogue at fashion’s biggest night, the rapper was asked who designed her massive black gown, which took up the entire landing of the carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Sensen Lii for Windowsen spent two months working on the gown, so when she couldn’t remember his name, people felt she was disrespecting the designer.
“I feel amazing,” Cardi said on the Met Gala carpet, before pausing for a moment and adding, “It’s this amazing designer. They’re Asian and everything.”
In response to the backlash, the “Up” artist posted a video on Instagram, per Entertainment Tonight, that has now expired and is circulating on Twitter (formerly X).
“I want to make this very clear, right, first thing’s first,” she began the two-minute-plus video.

This year’s Met Gala was attended by a memorable guest list of musicians including Bad Bunny, Lana Del Rey, Dua Lipa, Janelle Monáe, and Cardi B, but Katy Perry was not among them. However, AI-generated photos of the singer on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art fooled many people into thinking otherwise — including her own mother.
AI renderings of Perry “attending” the annual event quickly went viral on Monday night, purportedly showing the artist wearing a billowing floral gown that would have fit with the dress code of “The Garden of Time.” So many social media users were tricked into thinking she went to the Met Gala that Perry herself had to debunk the images.
“Couldn’t make it to the Met, had to work,” Perry clarified in the caption of an Instagram carousel featuring two of the fake photos. She also shared a text message from her mother,...

Cardi B made an incredible entry and ruled the green carpet with her enormous black tulle outfit. With a team of numerous men dressed in tuxedos who meticulously smoothed her billowing skirt, Cardi grabbed attention as soon as she arrived.
This year’s Met Gala, themed ‘The Garden of Time,’ urged attendees to look into the relationship between time and nature through their wardrobe selections. Cardi B ran with this concept, adding classic elegance and touches of lush foliage to her wardrobe.
Cardi’s ensemble was a piece of art in and of itself, not just a fashion statement. The rapper’s powerful presence was emphasised by the huge tulle skirt that encased the Metropolitan Museum of Art staircase, akin to a flowering rose.

Did Anna Wintour add more tables to this year’s Met Gala? Because the steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art felt especially crowded on Monday evening, May 6, teeming with Hollywood A-listers wearing a plethora of artful looks. And while not everyone leaned into the evening’s theme, “The Garden of Time,” for the most part the stars acquitted themselves well in looks that ranged from quiet elegance to over the top and outrageous.
Even with the nature-centric theme, the night surprisingly was highlighted by some stars in neutrals. Nicole Kidman offered a great backstory for her black and white Balenciaga gown, while Cardi B served up the night’s best drama in a Windowsen black gown that almost spanned the width of the museum steps. Flesh-toned gowns likewise were abundant, including Pamela Anderson in Oscar de la Renta and Lizzo in a custom floral-inspired corset gown by Paris-based designer Victor Weinsanto.

Domingo was among many celebrities who walked up the steps of The Met to celebrate the new exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” This year’s gala theme was “The Garden of Time,” and Domingo wore a cape that extended from his jacket and paired it with wide-legged pants.
“They both wore capes when they were at the Met,” Colman told E! at the event. “Everything I do, I feel like it’s gotta be for the culture. It’s gotta be more than just for me.”
He continued, “I wanted to honor these brothers who were here before me as well.”

Cardi B says the strategy remains the same for every Met Gala appearance: “Be iconic.”

Universal Music Group chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge has applauded a new music licensing deal with TikTok which ends a recent months-long standoff over royalties to be paid out around the social media platform.
“It’s another significant step we’ve taken to guide the industry’s evolution to a future where human artistry must be respected,” Grainge told an analyst call after the release of his company’s first quarter financial results. He argued the resolution of the TikTok dispute had impacts beyond a single social media platform.
“The income from social media is increasingly important income to artists, songwriters, labels and publishers, which is why we’ve pushed so hard and we will continue to push hard to protect and to develop it,” Grainge warned.
“Ultimately, the point of engaging in such conflicts is to find a higher common ground from which new and greater progress can be made.
