You don’t have to be an avid basketball fan to know the name Rudy Gobert. The Minnesota Timberwolves center, who also plays for the French national team, made headlines back on March 9, 2020; two days before Who officially declared Covid-19 a pandemic.
As many people around the world became concerned and began taking precautions, Gobert was skeptical about the disease and what he did during his press conference raised eyebrows. At the time, the athlete played for the Utah Jazz and when he was done answering the reporters’ questions, he jokingly touched all the microphones with his hands. Following that incident, the NBA announced that Gobert had tested positive for the coronavirus and suspended the season.
These days, Gobert has made headlines for other incidents such as a few on-court altercations and why he missed Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Denver Nuggets. Here’s more on that...

There’s a reason the most successful night of primetime used to be branded “Must See TV.” In the late 1990s, NBC’s “ER” would attract more than 30 million viewers a week in its Thursday 10 p.m. time slot. At its peak, the medical drama came close to commanding a 40 share — meaning that 40% of people watching TV in that hour were tuned in to the Warner Bros. Television series.
Today, such an accomplishment is beyond the reach of any TV program short of the Super Bowl. Viewers now watch TV in very different ways than they did 25 years ago, on their own timetables. Spending big to establish their businesses, streamers ushered in an era of series that came with shorter episode orders, high-wattage A-list talent and pricey production values. For nearly a decade, the traditions of old-fashioned linear TV have paled by comparison to the big-budget, commercial-free fare offered by Netflix,...

Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Anthony Edwards is becoming one of the biggest stars in the NBA. He was selected with the first pick in the 2020 draft and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. In 2023, he made his first All-Star appearance. That was also the year he went public with Jeanine Robel.
A few months after giving Robel a shoutout during his 44-point game performance, their relationship made headlines for the wrong reasons when Instagram model Paige Jordae accused Edwards of cheating on Robel with her and then paying for her to have an abortion.
Around that same time, Robel announced that she was pregnant with Edwards’ child. The couple ended up working things out and staying together. Since then though, many people have had questions about the pair including how much older Robel is than Edwards. Here’s the answer to that and more on the athlete and his girlfriend.

Grey’s Anatomy may have a lot in common with long-running hospital shows like ER on the surface. But TV showrunner Shonda Rimes revealed the slight details that made them very different from each other.
‘ER’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ focused on two completely different things Alex Kingston, Paul McCrane, Ming-Na, Michael Michele, Anthony Edwards, Goran Visnjic, Noah Wyle, Maura Tierney, Eriq La Salle, Sherry Stringfield, Laura Innes | NBC/Getty Images
ER and Grey’s Anatomy would inevitably have things in common, with both being successful medical dramas. But the genesis of each show was different. ER was created by Michael Crichton, and was based on his own experiences going to law school. Meanwhile, after watching a TV show, Rhimes was inspired to make Grey’s Anatomy.
Before Rhimes came up with Grey’s, she was actually working on a war series. But current events dissuaded her from going any further with the show.

The actor who played “Wolfman” in the original Top Gun is suing Paramount Pictures over what he claims is the unauthorized use of his likeness in the 2022 sequel.
Barry Tubb, the actor who played Leonard “Wolfman” Wolfe in the 1986 movie Top Gun, filed a complaint Wednesday in California court.
Tubb claims that any permission to use his likeness “did not include the use of his image in the sequel,” the massively successful Top Gun: Maverick.
The scene that raised the objection features an old photo of Iceman (Val Kilmer), Goose (Anthony Edwards), Maverick (Tom Cruise), and Wolfman.
The complaint states that the image is “a four-shot close-up clearly establishing plaintiff,” and “[Tubb’s] likeness in the scene is essential in a way that is not incidental.” The papers allege that the photo is actually an altered version of a behind-the-scenes shot of the original actors, and therefore the alterations “destroyed any purported copyright” to the image.

A supporting actor who appeared alongside Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer in the 1986 action drama Top Gun is now suing Paramount over the use of his likeness in the 2022 smash hit sequel Top Gun: Maverick.
Barry Tubb, who played Leonard “Wolfman” Wolfe in the 1986 movie filed the suit Wednesday in L.A. against the studio that released the nostalgic Top Gun: Maverick, which became the second-highest-grossing movie of 2022 at the worldwide box office. In the complaint, Tubb states that there was no stipulation in his contract to include his image in any potential sequel, which is what happened in a notable scene in Maverick.
Tubb is demanding a jury trial in the case.
The Maverick scene in question shows two characters coming upon an old photo from the era of the 1986 film that shows Iceman (Val Kilmer), Goose (Anthony Edwards), Maverick (Tom Cruise) and Tubb’s Wolfman.

High School Musical fans waited a long time for the fourth movie. In 2019, it finally came out – not as fourth installment but as High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Created by Tim Federle, it premiered on Disney+ in 2019.
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
The first season of the TV show didn’t follow the usual storyline from the Disney movies. Instead, it focused on real high school students at East High, where the original High School Musical was filmed.
The original HSM debuted in 2006 and was an instant hit. Disney subsequently released two sequels to the original film. The main leads in the original cast were Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. But, it seems like NBA star Anthony Edwards wants to replace Efron if the remake ever happens.

David Fincher is an obsessive filmmaker. He's become somewhat infamous for his perfectionism, shooting multiple — some would say exhausting — takes to get what he needs. There's a method to this madness: Fincher is looking for something raw and honest. "I hate earnestness in performance," the filmmaker once half-jokingly said. "Usually by Take 17 the earnestness is gone." It's fitting, then, that Fincher's best film is about obsession. "Zodiac," which hit theaters in 2007 and promptly failed at the box office, is the best work of art the filmmaker has created so far; a brilliant, captivating film that grabs you by the throat from the first frame and doesn't let up. Like the characters who inhabit the movie, we grow obsessed with the story; with the mystery; with the truth that can never really be learned.
Fincher knows a thing or two about serial killers. His thriller "Seven" (or "Se7en" if you want...

It’s a great season to be a Minnesota Timberwolves fan, with the team currently leading the NBA‘s Western Conference. Stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards have undeniable chemistry; veteran Mike Conley shows real leadership on the court; center Rudy Gobert is gunning for his fourth Defensive Player of the Year award. This is the kind of basketball you can get excited about.
But the Timberwolves have an additional, not-so-secret weapon you won’t see at the Target Center in Minneapolis. In fact, he’s never even been there.

“Succession” wasn’t even nominated at the Screen Actors Guild Awards until its third season when it got five nominations. The HBO hit is predicted to earn five nominations again for its fourth and final season and is the frontrunner in all three drama categories, ensemble, actor and actress. Such was the case last time and it only won one award, ensemble. But with the show over and bigger than ever, can “Succession” pull off a rare drama sweep?
There have only been five drama sweeps in the SAG Awards’ 29-year history, accomplished by three shows. The first to do was “ER” in 1998, which earned individual trophies for Anthony Edwards and Julianna Margulies. “The Sopranos” achieved it for its first season in 2000 and its last season in 2008, with James Gandolfini and Edie Falco taking the actor and actress prizes, respectively, both times. “The West Wing” also pulled off double sweeps...

Now the final season of “Succession” is hoping to match that nominations record — or even beat it — at the upcoming 2024 Golden Globes.
Gold Derby currently predicts that HBO’s dearly departed family show will easily score six Golden Globe noms. Drama series, drama actress Sarah Snook, drama actors Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong and Brian Cox, and supporting actor Matthew Macfadyen all seem to be givens. A seventh bid is on the bubble for supporting actor Alan Ruck. That means if any of the potential dark horse candidates also get in, “Succession” would enter the history books. Could it grab eight, nine or even 10 nominations?

Their common marital experience and career suggest they are a perfect match with the practical knowledge to sustain their union for the long haul. Fast Times at Ridgemont High is one of the most influential movies of the eighties. It was the first classic teen comedy of the decade, but unlike many other teen-focused flicks, it aspired to be a realistic depiction of what teens go through. In fact, the movie was based on a book by a young Cameron Crowe (who adapted the screenplay) who went undercover as a teen and wrote about his experiences. The movie tackled teen sex, pregnancy, abortion and drugs without any of the doom and gloom the topic would have been presented with had it been made by just about anyone else at the time.
Directed by Amy Heckerling, the movie featured an incredible cast of future stars, including Sean Penn as the stoner icon Spicoli, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold, Phoebe Cates (whose nude scene became one of the most rewound moments of the VHS era), Forest Whitaker,...

The United States, Lithuania, Germany and Slovenia secured their berths in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Fiba World Cup after posting their fourth straight wins in the tournament. The US held off Montenegro 85-73 in Manila to improve to 4-0 and secure a top-two finish in Group J, reports Xinhua.
Bojan Dubljevic had a layup with three minutes and three seconds remaining to pull Montenegro within 72-68, but the US answered with a 7-1 run to make it 79-69 with 1:29 left.
Anthony Edwards had 17 points and three rebounds to lead five Americans in double digits, while Nikola Vucevic finished with a game-high 18 points and 16 rebounds for Montenegro, who outrebounded the United States 49-31.
“They got 22 offensive rebounds, they executed, tried to pound us inside, but I’m proud of our guys,” said US head coach Steve Kerr.

Manila, Aug 31 (Ians) The US delivered another impressive performance in the Fiba World Cup, securing consecutive games with over 100 points for the first time since 2006, as they defeated Jordan 110-62, while China concluded its winless group phase after a loss to Puerto Rico.
After defeating Greece 109-81 on Monday, the US secured a spot in the round of 16 with a game to spare. They only needed a victory on Wednesday to secure the top spot in Group C, reports Xinhua.
Against Jordan, who had suffered back-to-back defeats, the US displayed aggressiveness right from the start, nearly sealing the win with a halftime score of 62-33.
“We were looking to experiment with some lineups. The challenge with Fiba is that you have only a few weeks to shape your team compared to an NBA season spanning six to eight months. While the game wasn’t competitive, both groups had a good rhythm.

In Anna Boden's and Ryan Fleck's 2019 superhero film "Captain Marvel," the title character (Brie Larson) has a cat she named Goose. Goose, a Garfield-like orange tabby, was named after the character played by Anthony Edwards in the 1986 film "Top Gun." But it would later be revealed that Goose was not a cat at all, but a shape-shifting alien creature called a flerkin, a voracious squid-like alien that can swallow human-sized prey whole before returning to the size of a house cat, presumably digesting its meals very, very quickly. It was Goose that scratched Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) across his eye, leaving him wearing his signature eyepatch.
According to a 2019 piece in Collider, "Captain Marvel" hired four different cat actors to play Goose throughout the film. Their names were Gonzo, Rizzo, Archie, and Reggie. One of them was hired because it has good at being held, one had the most attractive cat face,...

David Fincher’s 2007 film Zodiac has been acclaimed by critics, with it boasting a 90 percent freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a top five ranking on The Hollywood Reporter‘s list of the best 50 movies of the 21st century so far. But there were still some people who were disappointed by the movie’s lack of resolution.
With the many theories about the identity of the Zodiac killer, some viewers might have wanted a more definitive ending or take on the still unsolved mystery that gripped people for decades.
Speaking at a recent Tribeca Festival panel with Steven Soderbergh, Fincher recalled, “There was so much flak after Zodiac came out about people saying, ‘Why didn’t you go down this rabbit hole? Why did you only go down the Graysmith rabbit hole?'”
“That’s the book that we bought,” he said, cutting off his own line of questioning. “We...

If there was ever an actor worthy of the distinction of "America's Sweetheart," it's Meg Ryan, who has been appearing in films since 1981. Effortlessly charming and with an often easygoing magnetism whenever she's on-screen, Ryan channels her natural talents effectively in romantic comedies and family-friendly fare. However, Ryan also possesses a much wider range than many give her credit for, delivering solid work in military dramas and character studies while occasionally branching out into hard science-fiction and fantasy.
Despite performing in dozens of film roles over the past 40-plus years, Ryan is one of her generation's more underrated actors. In fact, though millions of moviegoers adore her and her work, Ryan has yet to earn an Academy Award nomination of any kind. With that in mind, here are the 14 best Meg Ryan movies spanning her feature film career so far.

Nicholas Hoult is poised to have a pretty successful spring. This weekend he has the title role in Universal’s gory R-rated comedy “Renfield” opposite Nicolas Cage as Dracula. Next month, he returns to Hulu’s comedy “The Great” for Season 3 fresh off his first-ever Emmy nomination for the show last year. He’s also starring in Robert Eggers’s next ensemble horror-thriller, “Nosferatu” opposite the likes of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bill Skarsgard, Emma Corrin, and Willem Dafoe. But in an interview with The Guardian published this week, Hoult was in a reflective mood about the roles that got away.
Asked about how he felt during the early days of the pandemic, which Hoult called the longest stretch of time he’s had without work, the actor said it was largely fine in terms of his mental health. “I think because I was just home being dad, which was nice,” the actor,...

With 20/20 hindsight, the mega-success of Paramount’s “Top Gun: Maverick” might seem inevitable, since it is a sequel to a familiar title, and it stars Tom Cruise. Of course nothing is a sure bet. And even with its popularity, there was no assurance Academy voters would embrace it.
But the film earned $1.48 billion at the worldwide box office and scored Oscar noms for best picture, adapted screenplay, editing, sound, song (by Lady Gaga and BloodPop) and visual effects.
The best picture nom recognizes four producers: Tom Cruise, David Ellison, Christopher McQuarrie and, after nearly 50 years in the industry, Jerry Bruckheimer, who is celebrating his first Oscar nomination.
A producer’s roles can change from film to film but Bruckheimer is consistently hands-on for every step. As Disney’s Sean Bailey told Variety in 2013: “He knows every detail of each picture.”

Three years after he and his “Big Little Lies” cast mates came up short in their drama ensemble SAG Award battle against the team from “The Crown,” Adam Scott has two new chances at being honored by the acting guild. Three decades into his career, he has earned both individual and ensemble notices for his work on Apple TV Plus’ “Severance,” the second season of which is currently in production. Although he is up against some heavy-hitting SAG Awards veterans in the drama actor contest, the freshness of his performance may give him the advantage he needs.

Since 2012, Bob Odenkirk has amassed 11 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, all of which came for his portrayal of “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul” character Jimmy McGill (aka Saul Goodman). Having already triumphed as a member of the former series’ ensemble, he is now vying for his first solo and cast victories for the latter. Given that this is his last chance to be individually honored for his signature role, he may indeed have no trouble avenging his previous four Best TV Drama Actor losses.

Pascal Siakam is going to the 2023 NBA All-Star game.
After the Toronto Raptors forward was initially snubbed of All-Star status earlier this month — to the chagrin of many in the 6ix — a spot was freed up for Siakam as an All-Star replacement due to Kevin Durant’s injury.
Siakam was named Friday as one of three reserve replacements by NBA commissioner Adam Silver for the Feb. 19 game in Salt Lake City, along with the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards and the Sacramento Kings’ De’Aaron Fox.

In the festival of military might that is Tony Scott's 1986 action movie, "Top Gun," the fighter pilots are surely the stars. At California's Miramar Naval Air Station — the "Top Gun" of the title — the audience watches Tom Cruise's Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, Nick "Goose" Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards), Tom "Iceman" Kazansky (Val Kilmer) and other candidates go through rigorous flight training, shepherded by experienced instructors like Commander Mike "Viper" Metcalf (Tom Skerritt) and Lt. Commander Rick "Jester" Heatherly. Maverick may have gotten a sequel, but it's the Top Gun instructors who train and manage (as best they can) his need for speed.
Jester is played by Michael Ironside, who in 1986 was at the mid-point between playing baddies in David Cronenberg's head trip "Scanners" and Paul Verhoeven's cerebral sci-fi gem "Total Recall" — two movies that bookended a decade where the Canadian actor-writer ascended as one of the most recognizable tough guys on film.

Is Anthony Edwards homophobic? It depends on which Anthony Edwards you are asking about, as there are two Anthony Edwards living very public lives in America. The first is the talented actor named Anthony Edwards. You know him as the beloved and lovable Goose from the hit movie Top Gun, produced in 1986. He starred as a Navy pilot who took the backseat spot in Tom Cruise’s plane before his death. He left behind his wife and young son, and his son decides to follow in his father’s footsteps more than 30 years later in Top Gun: Maverick. There is

With the 2023 Oscar nominations announced today, "Top Gun: Maverick" is flying high with six nominations including Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Best Sound, Film Editing, Best Visual Effects and, finally, Best Original Song for the Lady Gaga's "Hold My Hand." Seeing how the long awaited sequel almost single-handedly brought the moviegoing public back to theaters after the pandemic, the recognition today for Best Picture didn't seem to surprise that many people. Not only is it one of the best sequels ever made, it's grossed almost 1.5 billion at the box office. That kind of mammoth success doesn't usually translate to Oscar gold, but Tom Cruise and company delivered a surprisingly emotional follow-up that doesn't just thrill the audience with aerial acrobatics. It actually has heart.
One nomination that is a little unexpected is Adapted Screenplay. At first glance, the script doesn't seem in concert with the dialogue-heavy screenplays that usually prick up the ears of voters.
