Citadel (2023)
Unadulterated Drivel
Don't waste your time! It may look glitzy and appear to be a type of Bond/Mission-Impossible/Bourne, but after a few episodes of the inane plot you will see how the script is senseless and the characters are plastic. If it weren't for the action scenes, great production and pretty faces this would be totally unwatchable. At the end of the day you need a believable story - or at least one plausible enough to suspend your belief.
The time jigging sequencing is somewhat creative and interesting, but confusing, and the basic premise that the writers thought would be compelling -- amnesia of the two main protagonists -- doesn't really work. Most importantly, the whole story is banal and anodyne.
This production proves once again the importance of good writing! Which was seriously lacking here. Once again, we've been served explosive action sequences, which are "fun" to watch, without much substance. As another imdb reviewer queried-- did Chat GPT script this mess?
Glass Onion (2022)
Superficial Eye Candy
The whodunnit is present - check-- .... and Daniel Craig does his clever detective work -- check--- but other than that this trite "detective" movie bears little resemblance to the classic detective films that created this genre, and is very far from being "another Knives Out". The storyline is banal and the characters are cartoonish, cardboard props instead of real people, which makes it hard to even care about who had the motive or opportunity (big surprise, "everyone" as it turns out) and who did what to whom. Were it not for the beautiful setting and the flashy scenes I would have been bored to tears.
Give me a classic old school whodunnit detective movie anytime over this superficial nonsense.
....and lastly, Daniel Craig's Southern accent was painful on the ears.
Spiderhead (2022)
Mediocre & Predictable
Mediocre, predictable and trashy Netflix productiin, on autopilot. Seems like they are churning out quantity over quality. Would have loved to see this short story put in the hands of Charlie Booker; would have made a fine Black Mirror Episode.
Succession: This Is Not for Tears (2019)
Simply The Best Episode Ever..
Episode 10 was the best Season finale of any Series, ever; nothing further need be said............
.....
But since the parameters of Review submission require a hundred and fifty characters I'll just add....the directing, screenwriting and mainly the story arc are unparalleled...I could not wait to see this amazing turn of events continue with Season 3 Episode 1.
The Hustle (2019)
Pathetic Remake -- UNWATCHABLE
A pathetic remake of an excellent, classic film...awful script, unfortunate casting, worse acting, poor directing ...Go See Dirty Rotten Scoundrels a 10th time before wasting even 5 minutes on this unwatchable drivel.
Breaking In (2018)
Exciting - good flight film or quarantine watching
Check your brains at the door, don't expect too much in the way of character development script or xlarity of plot and you'll be very happy with this one.... very predictable and cliche, and certainly could have been better with a little longer run time, more work on the script and plugging up the many plot holes, but it is what it is, and it wasn't that bad.
Da 5 Bloods (2020)
Cringeworthy
Hokey, preachy, disjointed mess, with some wooden acting (by some good actors, as well) and worse directing, with a whole lot of heavy-handed propaganda indelicately woven into the sometimes predictable and often awkward storyline.
The Stepford Wives (2004)
Worthless Remake
Don't waste your time with a bland copy ..Go see the original from 1975, Katharine Ross, as Johanna, in one to her best performances.
Uncut Gems (2019)
Unadulterated Drivel
From the intrusive, cacophonous soundtrack to the predictable storyline to the obscene caricatures to the frenetic directing to the unbearable yelling of lines ....non-stop "Uncut Crap".
The Loudest Voice (2019)
Excellent
Excellent production, fascinating topic, with great writing, directing and acting. Yhe first episode might be one of the best episodes of any TV show or series ever.
Black Mirror: Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too (2019)
Drivel
How did this slip through quality control? A really dumb story and waste of time...bares little resemblance to the usual Genius of Charlie Brooker.
Operation Finale (2018)
Boring, Inaccurate and Wooden Acting
Forced myself to complete this Movie out of respect for the topic ...awful script, which the actors occasionally delivered as if sedated. Pace was tedious, slow-moving and often meandering (with way too much time spent on procuring Eichmmann's signature on the consent letter!). Lastly, the film is replete with historical inaccuracies and distortions, which really were not necessary to tell this cinema-ready story.
House of Cards (2013)
Disappointing Drivel
No way around it, Season 6 was awful ...in every respect that the first few seasons excelled this fseason 6 failed.. Preposterous and confusing storylines, awful script, poor directing, the episodes had a soap opera like energy, as the saga provided empty thrills, and culminated in the most bizarre and ridiculous finale I've ever witnessed on television.... The first few seasons were great and deserved the highest of ratings; unfortunately Season 6 was a complete waste of time.
I Heart Huckabees (2004)
meaningless philoso-psycho babble with inane plot and lifeless "acting"
This movie was pretentious and an awful waste of time (right up there with Mulholland Drive and Memento). . . . and actually painful to watch through to the end (though I stuck with it as I did for Cold Mountain, Mulholland Drive and The Terminal, the last 3 clunkers I endured, waiting for some redemption in the climax that never came). Huckabees was composed almost entirely of meaningless characters speaking psycho-babble and attemptng pseuodo-philosophical "humor". The storyline was inane and featured some of the most tiresome and lifeless "acting" (other than Wohlberg) I've seen in a long while and was a tedious attempt to achieve something "meaningful". A film should excite you, exalt you, educate you, make you laugh or change your life; this movie does none of the above, and, other than a few chuckles and an occasional moment here and there, I would have fallen asleep from sheer boredom.
