Transformers One (2024) is the first theatrical animated movie in 38 years since the original movie, The Transformers: The Movie (1986). This movie takes place on the planet Cybertron, centering on the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron going from brothers-in-arms to enemies.
Chris Hemsworth had joined the project after being impressed with the screenplay. Hemsworth made efforts not to use his regular speaking voice for Optimus Prime. In contrast, as per the request of Josh Cooley, Keegan-Michael Key remained close to his regular speaking voice for Bumblebee.
Megatron's original name D-16 was the Japanese serial number of the original Generation 1 Megatron toy released by the company Takara in 1984. The letter D is a shorthand for Destron, the Japanese name of the Decepticons used in older media.
This movie had been in development since 2015, when a writers' room was set up to expand the Transformers movie franchise, after the success of Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014).
