The mystical realm of Harry Potter serves as the perfect backdrop for a go-to comfort movie. Under the aegis of directors like Chris Columbus and David Yates, the movie adaptations of the globally cherished novel series were a prominent success. But would the wizardly creations have been as revered, had someone like the three-time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg helmed the project?

Astoundingly enough, the Jurassic Park director did come incredibly close to directing a Harry Potter film, only to forsake it after a few initial months. Turns out, the magic-infused world of Hogwarts wasn’t enticing enough for him to recreate on the silver screen. Or challenging, for that matter.

Sounds like Daniel Radcliffe won’t be returning to Hogwarts anytime soon.
The “Harry Potter” alum, who last appeared in the title role when he closed out the film franchise with “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” told E! News that he and his fellow original actors will probably not appear in the upcoming “Harry Potter” series being developed at Max.
“Like the rest of the world, [I’m] very excited to watch as an audience member,” Radcliffe said, before adding an “I don’t think so” as to whether he will make a cameo.
“I think they very wisely want to [have] a clean break,” Radcliffe continued. “And I don’t know if it would work to have us do anything in it.”
Radcliffe punted on whether or not Max approached him to star in the series, which is slated to premiere in 2026.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Part of the series, produced by Sameer Nair for India’s Applause Entertainment and directed by Hansal Mehta, follows the young Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi when he was in London to study law and missing vegetarian food. It is absolutely wild to think that Robin Williams got passed over for the part of Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter series because he wasn’t British! Now, while David Thewlis undoubtedly did justice to the character, one can’t help but wonder what kind of magic Williams could have brought to the role. Because one can never accept Williams to be a wrong choice for anything! The Harry Potter crew really missed out on something special with that one silly rule.
Robin Williams in Jumanji (1995) Robin Williams Was Denied the Role of Remus Lupin Because He Wasn’t British
Robin Williams, known for his extensive Hollywood career and a string of iconic roles, is often regarded as one of the few actors universally loved in the industry. Many would assume that Williams could land any role he desires.
However, that wasn’t the case when he wanted to enter the Harry Potter series.

While it may have been almost a decade and a half since the last film in the iconic Harry Potter franchise was released for the big screen, the legacy of the cinematic experiences as well as the literary excellence achieved by author J.K. Rowling will always be dearly remembered by the fans.

Miriam Margolyes is one of the most versatile actresses you can come across. She initially gained fame as a voice artist until she eventually expanded into film and television in ‘Stand Up, Virgin Soldiers’ (1977), and various characters in ‘Blackadder’ alongside Rowan Atkinson. Leaving the spin-offs aside, the mainline Harry Potter franchise remains one of the few IPs that didn’t lose its magic throughout the series, as it stuck close to the books by Jk Rowling. And unlike many great adaptations that stumble upon their ending, with the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, the creators stuck the landing, giving fans a satisfying conclusion to the saga.
However, per reports, things could’ve been exponentially different with the ending if Jk Rowling stuck with her original planned conclusion to the books, which would’ve witnessed Voldemort live.

Warner Bros. Discovery has an update about the Harry Potter TV series and not every Potterhead is rooting for the project after the update. David Zaslav, Wbd CEO, has suggested that author J.K. Rowling will be heavily involved in the series. Earlier, it was reported that she would executive produce the series. Rowling’s inflammatory comments about the trans community have made her a controversial figure in recent times.
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson in the first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, the last movie in the film franchise, was released in 2011 and Zaslav believes that it is time for a reinvention. However, the franchise had not been dormant, as three movies came out in the Fantastic Beasts series.

So, I guess Warner Bros. Discovery is actually serious about this "Harry Potter" reboot series, huh?
The Wizarding World lost a whole lot of its glamor in the years immediately after "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" brought the saga of The Boy Who Lived to a close on the big screen in 2011. Between her sometimes exasperating additions to the franchise's lore, her constant attempts to insist the "Harry Potter" books are more inclusive than they really are, and her muddled efforts to continue the property in film form with her underwhelming "Fantastic Beasts" scripts, J.K. Rowling spent most of the 2010s burning through the goodwill she had amassed faster than a Golden Snitch whizzing around the Quidditch field. This was all before she damaged her legacy for good with her openly transphobic rhetoric and behavior, which reportedly includes donating £70,000 to an anti-trans group's battle over the legal...

Harry Potter is set to return — to the small screen — in 2026.
The first installment of the Harry Potter TV series is targeted to hit the Max streaming service in 2026, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said on the company’s Q4 earnings call Friday. The series is expected to span seven seasons, adapting each book in J.K. Rowling’s best-selling fantasy book series.
“We’ve not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter,” Zaslav told analysts, noting that the last film in the series from Warner Bros. Pictures was made more than a dozen years ago. (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” was released in 2011.)
Zaslav said he was in London a few weeks ago with HBO and Max content boss Casey Bloys and Channing Dungey, chairperson of Warner Bros. Television, to meet with author J.K. Rowling about the show.

Harry Potter is one of the most significant franchises across various mediums, encompassing books, movies, and games. The series features a diverse cast of characters, including Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and many others. Daniel Radcliffe took on the challenging role of Harry Potter in the film series, showcasing his talent at a young age. With that said, Millie Bobby Brown decimated Daniel Radcliffe in just one line after he gave her tons of compliments.

Believe it or not, the Harry Potter film franchise came to a conclusion with 2011′s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Thirteen years later, our favorite young witches and wizards of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry are all grown up and becoming parents.
While so many of us remember the franchise’s actors as the fresh-faced children they were at the very start of their careers, the reality is that they are adults with little witches and wizards of their own.
In fact, eight co-stars who played students at Hogwarts have welcomed children in recent years. Two of those are first-time parents who shared big news in 2023.

Hollywood actor Gary Oldman, whose streaming series ‘Slow Horses’ returned for a third season last month, critiqued his performance as Sirius Black in the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise on the latest episode of Josh Horowitz’s ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast.
Gary Oldman, 65, thinks his portrayal of the beloved Harry Potter character was “mediocre”, reports People magazine.
After telling Horowitz, “I think my work is mediocre in it,” the Oscar winner said he believes he could have performed the role “differently”.
As per People, his approach may have been different if he had read J.K. Rowling’s original books before starring in the films, as his late co-star, Alan Rickman, said. “Maybe if I had read the books like Alan, if I had got ahead of the curve, if I had known what’s coming, I honestly think I would have played it differently,” Gary said on the podcast.

It’s been more than 12 years since “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” wrapped the fantasy series on the big screen, but that doesn’t keep fans from approaching its star Daniel Radcliffe with shouts of “It’s Harry!”
Unfortunately, as he explained to host Kelly Clarkson and his “Merrily We Roll Along” Broadway costars Lindsay Mendez and Jonathan Groff, he’s aged a bit in the interim.
“I’m like, ‘I’m sorry.’ They’re like, ‘You’re old now, what happened?’” Radcliffe said of these interactions, joking that he disappoints “kids on, like, a regular basis.”
The conversation picked up on Monday’s episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” as the three musical theater stars of the Stephen Sondheim revival reflected on their lives as parents.

Before the “Harry Potter” films, there were J.K. Rowling’s books. The first book, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” was published in 1997. Nearly 26 years later, eleven films, one reunion special and a Universal experience dedicated to the magical Wizarding World have grown out of Rowling’s literary staple in childhood fiction.

While there is still a chunk of the year left to go, the summer movie season is officially behind us as "The Equalizer 3" topped the charts over Labor Day weekend. With that, we move into fall where awards season hopefuls will enter the fold, and horror movies will look to cash in around the Halloween season. Sure, a movie could break out big between now and December 31 but, by and large, the biggest movies of the year are probably behind us. And, for the first time in more than 20 years, the three biggest of the big movies are not sequels.

“Barbie” has conquered North America, and now, the world.
Greta Gerwig’s fantasy-comedy has generated $1.36 billion at the global box office, overtaking Universal and Illumination’s animated adventure “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” ($1.35 billion globally) as the highest-grossing worldwide movie of the year.
“Barbie” has accumulated $600 million in North America and, earlier in August, passed “Mario” ($574 million) to become the biggest release of 2023 at the domestic box office as well. At the international box office, the film has grossed a staggering $760 million to date.
The very pink blockbuster has been casually crushing expectations since opening in theaters in July with $162 million, the best debut of the year. “Barbie” remained the No. 1 movie for four consecutive weekends and eventually became the highest-grossing movie directed solely by a woman. It’s currently the 14th-biggest domestic release and 15th-biggest global release in history.

In the studio's storied 100-year history, no film has made more money from ticket sales around the world, and that is an undoubtedly impressive feat when we look at the movies "Barbie" had to overtake to secure this record.
"Barbie" added another $17.1 million to its ever-growing domestic total over the weekend, in no small part thanks to National Cinema Day. More importantly, with another healthy showing internationally in its sixth weekend, the film has now earned $1.34 billion worldwide, per The Numbers. That puts it above the lifetime gross of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" ($1.315 billion) to become WB's biggest movie ever at the box office. It now...

It was going to happen eventually, but now the box office record is official. Greta Gerwig‘s “Barbie,” starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, has become the highest-grossing movie of the 2023 calendar year, at least domestically.
It did so by slowly creeping up on the $574.3 million grossed by Universal’s animated “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” earlier in the year, passing that mark on Wednesday to hit $575.4 million. Still, this means 2023 has now seen two movies enter the Top 15 for all-time highest grossing movies domestically, with “Barbie” still playing well in theaters and vying to get to the $608.6 million made by Disney-Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” back in 2018.
Globally, “Super Mario Bros.” is still victorious with $1.36 billion worldwide, but “Barbie” is already at $1.28 billion, so it only needs another $72 million globally to become the year’s biggest global blockbuster. Being that “Barbie” hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down, that...

While it has been expected to happen for some time now, it's finally official: director Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" has overtaken "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" to become the biggest movie of 2023 at the domestic box office. It's Barbie's world and we're just living in it. What's most impressive is that the movie still isn't done breaking records and passing milestones, with more dominoes likely to fall in the coming days/weeks. The biggest movie of the year is only going to get bigger.
According to The Numbers, "Barbie" has now earned $575.4 million domestically since it hit theaters in July, putting it just past the impressive $574.2 million total put up by "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" earlier this year. In terms of the bigger picture, Margot Robbie's latest is now the 14th biggest domestic earner ever, sitting behind "Incredibles 2" ($608.5 million). That number is not totally out of the...

This “Barbie” is officially the highest-grossing movie of the year in North America.
Greta Gerwig’s fantasy-comedy, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, has generated $575.4 million at the domestic box office, overtaking the previous champion, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which has collected $574 million domestically.
“Barbie” has grossed $1.3 billion globally and will soon surpass “Mario” (with $1.35 billion globally) as the biggest worldwide release of 2023 as well. Only two Hollywood blockbusters this year have crossed the $1 billion mark and, notably, neither were superhero adventures or sequels in popular franchises.
“Barbie” started its record-breaking theatrical run in July with the best debut of the year ($162 million) and remained the No. 1 movie for four consecutive weekends. It also landed the biggest opening weekend for a film directed by a woman and became the highest-grossing movie directed solely by a woman. At this point, “Barbie” is the 14th-biggest domestic release and 20th-biggest global release of all time.

Another day, another landmark moment for the "Barbie" movie. Even though director Greta Gerwig's smash hit finally surrendered the top spot at the box office over the weekend to "Blue Beetle," things are continuing to go well with the film actually coming out on top again on both Monday and Tuesday domestically. Coupled with ongoing ticket sales from overseas markets, Warner Bros.' can now count the blockbuster as one of the 20 highest-grossing movies of all time.
According to The Numbers, "Barbie," which stars Margot Robbie as Mattel's enduringly popular doll, has now earned $1.286 billion at the global box office. That includes $572.8 million in North America, to go along with $713.3 million internationally. More importantly, that running total is enough to put it past Disney's 2013 smash hit "Frozen" ($1.284 billion) to enter the top 20 all-time. It should soon pass "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" ($1.3 billion) as well to climb to number 19. More importantly,...

Greta Gerwig’s fantasy comedy “Barbie” has crossed $537.5 million at the domestic box office, overtaking Christopher Nolan’s 2008 superhero epic “The Dark Knight” ($536 million) as the highest-grossing domestic release in Warner Bros. history.
And the box office records aren’t expected to stop anytime soon. In the coming days, “Barbie” will surpass Universal’s animated “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” ($574 million) as the biggest domestic release of 2023. At this rate, “Barbie,” which just hit $1.2 billion globally, also has a shot of eclipsing “Mario” ($1.35 billion) as the highest-grossing worldwide release of the year.
It’s been a wild run for “Barbie,” which has remained the No. 1 movie for four consecutive weekends. After 17 days in theaters, it became the fastest Warner Bros. film (and eighth in the studio’s 100-year history) to join the $1 billion club. It could also outpace 2011’s “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” ($1.34 billion) as the...
