Ever walk in on a relative in an intimate moment and you really wish you hadn’t? Yeah, imagine that it’s your mother (Nicole Kidman) … with your former boss (Zac Efron). That’s the reality for Zara (Joey King) in A Family Affair, directed by Richard Lagravenese. In the new trailer for the film, you can see Zara bear witness to that extremely awkward — and, unfortunately for her, painful — surprise. Upon seeing her boss and mother in bed together, Zara spins on the spot and collides directly with the wall.
It took quite a few takes to get the perfect doorframe collision on film. “I did it about three times, and then took a moment to watch those takes back and decided I needed to keep trying until it was perfect,” King tells Tudum. “The hit on the head wasn’t looking real enough...

A simple Google search of "the best rom-coms of all time" will take you down a nostalgic hole of '90s and early-'00s movies like "10 Things I Hate About You," "While You Were Sleeping," and "P.S. I Love You." These classics, among many others, have shaped how we view love on screen. But through these films, we've learned what love looks like through white protagonists; many Bipoc communities have failed to see themselves reflected. While we saw Latine actresses like Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, and Christina Milian make their mark early on in romantic comedy movies, for years the entertainment industry has undervalued and underrepresented Latine communities on screen and behind the camera.
Camila Mendes is shifting that narrative. You likely recognize her from rom-coms like "Palm Springs," "The Perfect Date," and "The New Romantic" - and she's starring in and serving as an an executive producer for the new rom-com film "Música,...

Times are changing. And for the better. Over the course of the past decade, the industry has achieved great heights in promoting inclusivity. The atmosphere has improved and sections who were once shunned have luckily been able to put the days of discrimination behind. It was for this reason that Hilary Swank has revealed that she would refuse to do a role that would go on to win her an Academy Award.

Throughout most of his early career, Jeffrey Dean Morgan was cast in roles that had him playing “good guys,” especially in guest roles on Grey’s Anatomy, Supernatural, and in the romantic comedy film P.S. Morgan, who has since gone on to star on The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: Dead City, at the time of Watchmen’s release he told us that he was anxious to play against his usual type in Watchmen, though it was not an easy role to play. In 1963, the songs The Beatles released laid the groundwork to establish them as the biggest band in the world. They had a handful of hits that year that completely changed their lives. While they were proud of each release, Paul McCartney said one of these in particular felt like a big step forward for the group. He shared how the introduction of a chord made him feel like they were growing as artists.
Paul McCartney said 1 early Beatles song felt like a step forward for the band
In 1963, The Beatles released their debut album Please Please Me. For years before this, though, McCartney, John Lennon, and George Harrison had performed together. Lennon and McCartney had long been writing songs and had amassed a catalog of music.

When The Beatles released “Please Please Me” in early 1963, both Paul McCartney and John Lennon received writing credit. The pair wanted to be the next Rodgers and Hammerstein, and they established the precedent of earning joint credit for their songs. According to McCartney, though, he didn’t have all that much to do with writing the song. He admitted that “Please Please Me” was more of Lennon’s song than his own.

After achieving success with “Love Me Do,” The Beatles exploded with the release of “Please Please Me.” It was a song McCartney and Lennon worked on together, but McCartney admitted that it was more of Lennon’s song than his.

Actor Hilary Swank and 300 star Gerard Butler once teamed up for a romantic movie as love interests. But Butler let Swank know beforehand that he wasn’t in 300 shape so he wouldn’t disappoint his onscreen partner.

Prior to doing P.S. I Love You with Swank, Butler starred in Zack Snyder’s 300. The actor famously portrayed the king of Spartans in the 2007 blockbuster hit. The role required all of its actors, including Butler, to get into peak physical shape to properly portray these ancient warriors. This meant Butler had to dedicate himself to an intense training regimen hours for hours on end for more than half a year.

Two decades ago, one jilted heart found its way to Italy as part of the iconic, genre-redefining film “Under the Tuscan Sun.” Starring Diane Lane as Frances, a San Francisco writer who jets to Europe after realizing her soon-to-be ex-husband is cheating on her, the 2003 film cemented the early aughts’ obsession with starting over again. “Under the Tuscan Sun” was based on a real-life Frances, author Frances Mayes to be exact, whose memoir was adapted by late writer-director Audrey Wells for the big screen.
Frances, newly jilted and with the emotional support of her best friend Patti (Sandra Oh), escapes both midlife crises and bad American men by traveling across the globe for a luxury vacation. She falls in love with a Tuscan villa and opts to renovate it while bonding with locals, including the seductive Marcello (Raoul Bova).

Producer George Martin hated The Beatles‘ “Love Me Do.” In addition, he wasn’t a big fan of some of the band’s early covers. Notably, John Lennon had quite a bit to say about “Love Me Do.”
The Beatles put ‘Love Me Do’ and ‘Over the Rainbow’ on their demo tape
During a 1995 interview with The Christian Science Monitor, Martin discussed hearing The Beatles’ demo tape. It included covers of “Over the Rainbow” and “Your Feet’s Too Big,” as well as the original compositions “Love Me Do” and “P.S. Most people who [first] heard The Beatles thought they weren’t much use.”

In addition to being expert songwriters, The Beatles also had a strong b.s. detector. They wrote nearly two dozen No. 1 hits in the United States but also walked away from music they knew wouldn’t perform well. It’s hardly a stretch to say The Beatles dominated the 1960s, especially from 1963 onward. Their energetic debut album, Please Please Me, bowled over young English music fans. The United States finally caught up nearly a year later with the Fab Four’s historic appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. The fact that The Beatles had 71 songs land in the top 100 of the Billboard singles chart is as impressive as their 20 No. 1 hits.

Scottish actor Gerard Butler has been headlining some of Hollywood's biggest, most successful, and most talked-about blockbuster releases for three decades. If any 2000s action star has a claim to A-list status, it's him. However, it still feels like not enough people discuss his acting talents.
For most of his career, Butler has prioritized a kind of unapologetically corny and popular cinema that often skews ... controversial, to say the least. Good and campy fun is Butler's bread-and-butter -- whether it's action, romance, adventure, or a musical. The key to appreciating him as a performer is to understand this fact and fall in love with the easy-watching pleasure these movies provide. However, it's also worth noting what deeper dimensions Butler brings to these roles, too. So here's an appraisal of the 12 best Gerard Butler movies. For the unacquainted, these picks will help viewers fall in love with the man's unique brand of crowd-pleasing entertainment.

The Beatles‘ cheesiest songs tended to be about love. At least the band knew how to change it up a bit most of the time. Thankfully, they grew out of writing about love all the time halfway through the 1960s. Here is a list of 10 of The Beatles’ cheesiest love songs.

“Misery” is one of The Beatles’ most miserable songs but is also one of their cheesiest. It’s an almost too-depressing breakup song where the speaker is talking about losing the love of their life. The corniest lyric in the tune is: “Send her back to me/ ‘Cause everyone can see/ Without her, I will be/ In misery.”

Ringo Starr joined The Beatles significantly later than his bandmates, so he didn’t live through some of their earliest experiences as a group. He also wasn’t on all the songs they recorded, though this continued to happen after he joined the band. For various reasons, Starr was not the drummer on five Beatles songs.

Soon after joining the band, Starr joined them in the studio to record “Love Me Do.” He struggled with timekeeping, though, much to the frustration of producer George Martin. Ultimately, Starr’s version of “Love Me Do” made it on the album, but he wasn’t so lucky with another song.
“They started ‘Ps I Love You.’ The other bloke played the drums and I was given the maracas,” Starr said in the...

Several Beatles’ songs reached No. 1 during their career. Fans loved many of their tunes, but sometimes the band members didn’t. John Lennon hated several Fab Four songs, even some that he wrote. The Beatles’ worked hard on one unreleased song they didn’t like and it still hit No. 1 — for someone else.

They eventually changed everything about pop music, but The Beatles didn’t begin on top of the mountain. They were like every other band when they started out — they had to take marching orders.

It’s 10pm on Monday 11 February 1963, and as the Abbey Road clock ticks down the final minutes of an exhausting 12-hour session, John Lennon strips to the waist, doses up on Zubes throat lozenges and throws himself into one final death-or-glory charge into rock’n’roll history.
“The last song nearly killed me,” he’d say later, recalling that last-minute take of “Twist and Shout”, which The Beatles managed to squeeze into the closing seconds of the one-day recording session for their debut album Please Please Me. A second take was abandoned as Lennon’s voice gave out altogether after a full day of howling and harmonising, powering through on throat sweets, milk and the ferocious Hamburg spirit that had seen them through countless late-night rock’n’roll marathons at the Kaiserkeller. “My voice wasn’t the same for a long time after,” he said. “Every time I swallowed it was like sandpaper.

The Irish accent is consistently voted one of the most attractive in the world, yet even some of the world’s finest actors have trouble with it. Leonardo DiCaprio tried, as did Julia Roberts (twice), and dare we even mention Brad Pitt?
Today (17 March) marks St Patrick’s Day, and if you have no pub and/or beer plans, why not experience the next best thing: reminiscing about the wonkiest Irish accents in film history.
Relatively new to this great lineage of bad accents is Wild Mountain Thyme, a romantic drama released in the UK in early 2021 and so inexplicable that even literal Irish actors seemed to speak with fake Irish accents in it.
Such is the evil power of this particular bit of fakery, though – Hollywood’s bastardised visions of Ireland so all-encompassing and destructive that few can survive it.

February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.
This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. Amazon’s original offerings kick off with the release of Dave Franco-directed romcom Somebody I Used to Know on Feb. 10. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The show stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne and this batch of episodes will be its swan song. Meanwhile The Consultant on Feb. 24 is a dark comedy workplace thriller starring Christoph Waltz.
The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.

Hollywood actor Gerard Butler is still feeling guilty over an incident with co-star Hilary Swank on the set of their 2007 romcom, ‘P.S. I Love You’. During a recent episode of ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’, the 53-year-old actor talked about how he “almost killed” Swank on the film set, reports Deadline.
It seems that Butler’s character was required to dance shirtless, garbed only in a pair of suspenders. “I literally shot that scene for a day and a half and I had to dance like an idiot in the suspenders,” Butler recalled, quoted by Deadline. “At one point, the clip, which was a crocodile clip, got stuck in the television as I’m crawling towards her and she’s right in front of me and she’s laughing hysterically.”
The clip was “so dangerous” that the camera crew devised plastic covers as protection.
“I had to ping it, and it would go past my face.

Gerard Butler revealed on “The Drew Barrymore Show” that he was the cause of a freak accident that sent Hilary Swank to the hospital during the making of their 2007 romantic drama “P.S. I Love You.” The film, directed by Richard Lagravenese and based on the 2004 novel of the same name, stars Swank as a widow who receives letters from her late husband (Butler) written before his death that encourage her to move on and set out on adventures. Butler said one scene in the film “almost killed” Swank.
“You know the scene where I’m dancing and I [am wearing] suspenders? I shot that scene for a day and a half, and I had to dance like an idiot in the suspenders,” Butler said. “At one point, the clip, which was a crocodile clip, got stuck in the television as I’m crawling towards her, and she’s right in front of me,...

Nearly two thirds of gardeners play music to their plants, according to new research.
Studies have shown that music helps plants to grow, with the vibrations stimulating their growth.
In a survey by music licensing company Ppl Prs, which studied 1,000 gardeners, 63 per cent said they played music to their plants.
Like people, plants enjoy listening to music, while different plants prefer different genres.
Classical music is most effective on the growth of roses, while chrysanthemums thrive after just 30 minutes of play.
Ppl Prs’s gardening expert Michael Perry (Aka “Mr Plant Geek”) said: “Using sound to stimulate growth is an entirely natural phenomenon.
“To that end – and as strange as it might seem – research suggests that plants enjoy music. With houseplants, a good beat can mimic the natural vibrations they would experience outside.”

Gerard Butler has shared a previously unknown story from his time filming Ps. I Love You.
Apparently, the actor almost took out co-star Hilary Swank’s eye out in one of the scenes.
In the 2007 rom com, Butler plays Swank’s on-screen husband, Gerry, who leaves her letters after he dies.
Speaking to Drew Barrymore as a guest on her show, Butler recalled the moment from the scene where he dances around in Irish themed boxers and braces.
“I literally shot that scene for like a day and a half and I had to dance like an idiot in the suspenders,” he told Barrymore.
The actor explained how he had to get the crocodile clip attached to him to ping off his boxers.
“The camera people had these plastic fronts to protect themselves from this crocodile [clip]because it was so dangerous,” he said.

Gerard Butler has said he is “devastated” after the death of his friend Darius Danesh.
The Scottish singer-songwriter and actor, who rose to fame on the talent shows Popstars and Pop Idol, died at his home in the US aged 41 on 11 August.
Paying tribute to his “brother in arms”, Butler shared a photo on Instagram of the pair smiling, along with the caption: “I am devastated by the sudden passing of my dear friend Darius, a true brother in arms. My thoughts and love go to his wonderful mum and dad Avril and Booth and his two brilliant brothers Aria and Cyrus.
“To those lucky enough to have met Darius for more than a few minutes, they were deeply moved by his infectious laugh and barely containable zest for life.
“He was always armed with a smile, a booming voice, and a genuinely warm embrace that few could resist – nor would they want to!

We knew it was coming, but it didn't hurt any less.
The series said goodbye to Paula when they treated us to a bittersweet montage of Paula and Mike's short, happily domesticated life together on the opening of The Big Leap Season 1 Episode 10; then, she collapsed and passed away before the opening credits.
But via video recordings she left with Wayne, we got a few more glimpses of her as she left messages to Mike, encouraging him to carry on and not fall into the familiar depression hole he was in before he met her. Of course, interestingly, Nick's been having a difficult time, and the show crumbling before his eyes is only part of it.
We have to give it up for Piper Perabo. She made Paula one of the most endearing characters in this series and brought many characters together unexpectedly.
The montage was sweet. Mike and Paula...

Continuing our series of writers sticking up for loathed films is a defence of the commercially successful yet critically lambasted romance
I’m not here to defend the accent. You can have that. I am not going to say that in Ps I Love You, Gerard Butler – whose real accent will remain a secret until the day he dies – does a good impression of an Irishman. Although it’s a lot better than reviewers gave it credit for, that is not a hill on which I will get wounded, let alone die. But I have to stand up for one of the most unjustly smeared films of the last 20 years, nay of all time.

Congruity is important in fiction. Trust and verisimilitude are the first casualties when breaches of the unspoken contract between creator and audience occur. Each of us has our own limits on what we’re prepared to accept before that crucial tipping point is reached and our minds unmoor from a piece of fiction. Although we understand that show-runners and directors will sometimes bend reality or sacrifice elements of the truth or historical record in the pursuit of spectacle or entertainment, some things are sacrosanct.
Arguably our ears are the fiercest arbiters of truth. These days, botched accents or dialects in entertainment vehicles are the elements most likely to trigger flash-bangs of furious incredulity, and offend cultural sensibilities (especially now that we’re past the era of casting people in serious dramatic roles out-with their own ethnicities). Though the 1995 movie Braveheart was rife with historical inaccuracies – akin to Abraham Lincoln teaming...
