Ryan Gosling is making the dreams of “Saturday Night Live” writers come true.
In addition to reprising his iconic role for a sequel to skit “Papyrus,” penned by Julio Torres, it’s now been revealed that Gosling’s viral “Beavis and Butt-Head” sketch was a shelved idea from 2018, with Jonah Hill originally being set to portray one half of the cartoon-character duo.
“SNL” hair stylist Jodi Mancuso and makeup artist Louie Zakarian both told The Ankler that the skit was originally pitched when Jonah Hill was hosting a Season 44 episode in November 2018. However, it was canceled due to challenges with the necessary prosthetics.
“Even at that time it was late coming into the show, so there wasn’t a lot of prep time and I wasn’t fully happy with the wigs,” Mancuso said. “Then I think we tried it again, and again I wasn’t happy with it. So...

“Saturday Night Live” hair stylist Jodi Mancuso and makeup artist Louie Zakarian recently told The Ankler (via People) that the now-iconic Beavis and Butt-Head sketch with Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day was originally pitched for host Jonah Hill in 2018. The “Superbad” favorite hosted the Nov. 3, 2018 episode during Season 44 with musical guest Maggie Rogers.
“Even at that time it was late coming into the show, so there wasn’t a lot of prep time and I wasn’t fully happy with the wigs. Then I think we tried it again, and again I wasn’t happy with it,” Mancuso said. “So we fully gave up on it, this is not going to happen.”

Few Saturday Night Live sketches from last season were as celebrated and pored over as the brilliantly dumb “Beavis and Butt-Head” bit, in which Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day attended a boring talk show on artificial intelligence as the famous Mike Judge cartoon characters. Gosling and Day looked so insane that not even Heidi Gardner — who was playing the moderator — could keep herself from laughing, setting off a chain reaction of breaking onstage.
That sketch wouldn’t have been possible without two key behind-the-scenes figures — hair stylist Jodi Mancuso and makeup artist Louie Zakarian.

She’s worked with some of the biggest names in pop culture over the six years she’s spent on the cast of Saturday Night Live, but there’s one would-be host who remains Heidi Gardner’s white whale.
In a new interview with her hometown paper, Kansas City’s The Pitch, Gardner was quick to answer when asked who’s on her must-have host list. “Obviously, [Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick] Mahomes would be incredible to get,” she said.
Referencing Travis Kelce’s 2023 SNL hosting stint, Gardner added “Just the fact that a Kansas City Chief hosted SNL is so cool. I’m probably pressing my luck trying to get another one.”
It’s not exactly a pipe dream. Mahomes recently let slip that he turned down hosting the show this season, but said that it remains on his bucket list.

Heidi Gardner knew that “Saturday Night Live” Beavis and Butt-Head sketch was taking off after a chat with a lifelong friend.
“My friend Michelle, I’ve known her since second grade,” Gardner told IndieWire during a recent interview. “It was really cute after ‘Beavis and Butt-Head,’ she was like, ‘I loved seeing you laugh in that sketch because I know that laugh.’ And [I said], ‘Yeah, that’s because we’ve laughed like that for so many years.’ That’s what is special to me about [the sketch]. Mikey [Day] feels like a friend I’ve had since I was a kid. To get to show the world, ‘Yeah, I think this person is so funny,’ I welcome it.”

Saturday Night Live, which just wrapped its 49th season last weekend, has already gotten a head start on sponsorships for its golden anniversary.
NBCUniversal said Tuesday it has locked Allstate, L’Oreal Groupe, T-Mobile, and Volkswagen of America as sponsors of the show’s 50th season. The milestone will be highlighted by a primetime special on Sunday, February 16. T-Mobile, which has sponsored the past two seasons of the series, is going to expand that relationship next season.
As presenting sponsors, the four brands will be “closer than ever” to the program via “curated custom content and experiences” across the NBCU portfolio, the company said. Throughout the 50th season, “generations of comedic talent” will be celebrated via custom content and experiences, it added.
At last week’s NBCU upfront presentation to advertisers in New York, SNL cast members Heidi Gardner, Bowen Yang and Kenan Thompson made an appearance to tease the upcoming anniversary.

On Saturday Night Live‘s cold open over the weekend, Donald Trump, played by James Austin Johnson, auditioned fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter as his vice presidential running mate. Trump addressed a crowd outside the mock Manhattan courthouse where his hush-money trial is taking place.
“I don’t like being in court because they say very mean things about me while I am trying to sleep,” Johnson’s Trump said. The real Trump’s legal team had to find ways to keep the former president awake during his New York trial.
The former president spoke about the trial from the barricades outside the courthouse, referred to as “Trump’s new home,” and thanked the crowd for visiting him at his “cage at the zoo.”

There are a plenty of longtime Saturday Night cast members, yet there were no big exits — or hints of departures — on tonight’s Season 49 finale of the venerable NBC late-night program.
No SNL veterans were tearing up at the end of their sketches like Kate McKinnon did in the 2022 finale, it was all smiles and fist bumps at the curtain call, and, after another brutal joke swap, Colin Jost and Michael Che wrapped their 10th season together on Weekend Update by wishing everyone a great summer.
This was to be expected, given that no one from this year’s 17-strong troupe would willingly miss next year’s big celebrations – The Big 50.
Host Jake Gyllenhaal set the stage for what is to come in his opening monologue, noting that the finale was “the last episode before the big anniversary season.”

James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump returned to “Saturday Night Live” for one more appearance this season, with the cold open spoofing one of Trump’s many rants outside his criminal fraud trial. And, during this particular press conference, he ran through his shortlist for VP — from Kristi Noem to Hannibal Lecter.

Naturally, he acknowledged the gag order put on him, though he complained that it “sounds like a challenge on RuPaul” more than anything else.
After following suit of the real Trump and complaining about how unfair the trial is to him, the fake Trump brought out his “short bus,” er, short list of VP candidates, though he caveated that the actual choice would be “determined by the winner of the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight.

Saturday Night Live‘s Mikey Day understands why Heidi Gardner couldn’t get through last month’s now infamous Beavis and Butt-Head sketch: His Butt-Head face was just too much to take in all at once.
On Late Night With Seth Meyers this week, Day recalled the sketch, which co-starred Ryan Gosling as the Beavis look-alike, and how the dress rehearsal, though the two were in full costume, didn’t have quite the oomph as the on-air version. Gardner, as millions of viewers have seen, was playing a NewsNation host moderating a town hall who doesn’t realize that two men with uncanny resemblances to the cartoon duo are in the audience.
When Gardner turned around to look at Day, she lost her composure and couldn’t stop laughing.

Dua Lipa knows how to bring the party. And apparently it runs in the genes. While making her “Saturday Night Live” hosting debut last night, the award-winning pop star acknowledged how she’d made her television debut in the same building eight years ago and gave a special shoutout to her parents — who were in the audience cheering her on — telling a story about an unlikely run-in she had with her folks one night.
“As you can see,” she said, “they’re kind of cool. They love to party. One night, I was out with my friends and we ended up at the club at three o’clock in the morning and who do I bump into but my parents. Which is embarrassing, cause the last thing you want to see when you’re super high and drunk-off-your-ass is your daughter.”
The punchline got a huge laugh, particularly from her parents up in the balcony.

Dua Lipa went all in on Saturday Night Live for the NBC show’s May 4 episode.“I’m here, I’m hosting, I’m performing, I’m making the wigs, I’m dealing Adderall to the writers, I’m doing it all,” she said in her opening monologue. “So tonight, I promise you, I’m gonna give you everything.” She also dealt out Radical Optimism — the name of her new album — to audience members in tough spots… though she couldn’t help South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (played by Heidi Gardner). Check out highlights from Lipa’s episode below. Dua Lipa is schooling Saturday Night Live on the bad blood between Kendrick Lamar and Drake.
During a local news segment sketch, the “Dance The Night Away” singer appeared as a culture critic Wanda Weems to catch audiences up to speed on all the jabs the two rappers have taken at each other in diss tracks over the past few days.
But, as it turns out, Good Morning Greenville‘s culture reporter isn’t quite so tapped in.
“One clue on the song ‘Euphoria,’ when Kendrick describes Drake as Canadian, that’s because Drake is from Toronto,” she says, stating an obvious fact about the “Hotline Bling” rapper.
She continues, “And he calls Drake ‘Crodie,’ which is a term used by the Crips, which according to Wikipedia is an alliance of street gangs based in Southern California.”
While none of her insight is much more helpful than that, things take...

Saturday Night Live‘s latest cold open centered on Columbia University’s handling of the pro-Palestinian protests on campus amid the Israel–Hamas war.
During the sketch, Mikey Day, Kenan Thompson and Heidi Gardner played concerned parents of students participating in the protests.
Last week, hundreds of demonstrators were arrested after the school’s president called the New York Police Department to help restore order on campus. Police cleared the university’s Hamilton Hall after protesters occupied the administration building earlier in the day.
After being asked their thoughts on the protests, Gardner initially responded, “It’s been tough. Now, I’m all for free speech, but I don’t understand what they think they’re accomplishing and that’s really putting a strain on me and my daughter’s relationship.”
Thompson later shared his thoughts: “Nothing makes me prouder than young people using their voices to fight for what they believe in.

2023 was the end of an era in the Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy category. For the first time in 10 years, “Saturday Night Live” was snubbed in the category in which it has been nominated a record 22 times and has won twice, both for Kate MicKinnon. Can it rebound in 2024?
Ever since the TV academy allowed “SNL” cast members to enter in the comedy acting categories in 2008, the sketch series has dominated supporting actress, with 2013 and 2023 being the only years it has failed to earn a nomination. There is a lot of hype surrounding this month’s The Fall Guy, and considering it’s a tribute to the world of cinematic stunt work, it’s no surprise that Tuesday’s Los Angeles premiere pulled through, with stuntmen jumping through glass and leaping off balconies to dazzle the crowd before the movie even started. But Ryan Gosling had his own moment, reprising his runaway rendition of Beavis (to Mikey Day’s Butt-Head), bringing the metalhead slackers to one place you’d never expect to see them.
Appearing at The Fall Guy’s premiere, Gosling and Day stepped out as the characters, dressed from enormous head to toe just as they were on Saturday Night Live last month – although it is still a little bothersome that their Beavis and Butt-Head are in shirts that say “Death Rock” and “Skull”, since Beavis would always rock a Metallica shirt and...

Ryan Gosling celebrated the Hollywood premiere of his new movie The Fall Guy by bringing back his viral Saturday Night Live character, who looks like Beavis. After walking the red carpet in a more traditional suit with co-star Emily Blunt, Gosling returned in costume alongside SNL cast member Mikey Day, who was dressed like Butt-Head.
The duo’s live-action versions of Beavis and Butt-Head first appeared in an SNL sketch that aired during the April 13 episode, which Gosling hosted. In the skit, Heidi Gardner played a news anchor interviewing...

Beavis and Butt-Head made an unexpected red carpet debut at the Los Angeles premiere of “The Fall Guy” on Tuesday night.
Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day appeared on the carpet together dressed as live-action versions of Beavis and Butt-Head, respectively, from the infamous “Saturday Night Live” sketch.
After initially posing for photos in a mint green monochromatic suit, Gosling disappeared while his “Fall Guy” co-star Emily Blunt, along with the rest of the cast and crew, did interviews. When he returned to the carpet, Gosling — wearing a prosthetic nose, blonde wig and Beavis’ signature “Death Rock” T-shirt — had a peculiar plus one by his side: Butt-Head (Day).

Ryan Gosling stars in The Fall Guy and during the L.A. premiere of the David Leitch-directed film called the movie “love letter to the stunt community.”
“They are the hardest working people in show business,” Gosling said before the screening. “This movie is just a giant campaign to get stunts an Oscar.”
He continued, “We are the face of these films, but the crews really make the movies, and this is a love letter to them.”

It appears Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day reprised their iconic Beavis and Butt-Head characters sooner than fans were likely expecting.
The actor was joined by the Saturday Night Live star on Tuesday night at the Los Angeles premiere of Gosling’s latest movie, The Fall Guy.
After the Barbie star initially walked the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in a mint-green Gucci suit with his co-star Emily Blunt, Gosling later returned — only this time looking a bit different.
Gosling and Day posed for photos as their live-action depictions of Beavis and Butt-Head, the main characters from the hit ’90s adult animated series. Gosling was seen with a blonde wig and blue shirt with words that read, “Death Rock,” and Day had on a gray shirt with the word, “Skull.”
