Last year’s Grammy Award lineup for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance was somewhat weak, with most of the nominees being deep album cuts rather than big singles. Even the ones that were singles were not particularly major hits, at least not to the level that past winners in the category have been. Is this becoming the new normal? This year’s lineup is also looking pretty scarce so far, although there are some contenders whose wins would be significant due to certain other factors.
The frontrunner right now seems to be Taylor Swift and Post Malone’s “Fortnight,” which has made huge waves. The single served as the lead for Swift’s new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” and became an instant hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and breaking the record for the most streamed song in a single day on Spotify. Primavera Sound Barcelona has long been renowned for brilliant lineups in an idyllic setting, the setting flanked by the Mediterranean Sea with the Spanish city as its backdrop. This year’s iteration was no exception, drawing an estimated 193,000 people from around the world to witness an eclectic mix of artists that included Lana Del Rey, Sza, Pulp, Troye Sivan, and Pj Harvey.
But Primavera’s appeal goes beyond the music. It serves as a reminder of what drew fans to festivals for decades prior: bonding over music, feeling a sense of community,...

Rock music is far from dead. Last year’s Grammy nominations proved that, with some of the leading acts in music being present in the rock categories. Alongside legends like The Rolling Stones and Metallica, the field was graced by the presence of Gen-z’s favorite artists, such as Boygenius, Arctic Monkeys and Olivia Rodrigo. So to find great rock music these days, you just have to pay attention. We are certainly paying attention this year, with a slew of buzzy releases already in the conversation to take home the gold come Grammy time.
One of the biggest stories in rock this season is the return of The Beatles with the single “Now and Then.” It’s unclear if the song will be competing in pop or in rock, but either way it’s for sure getting them a nomination. A music video made to their hit song “I’m...

On a hike with his snacks of choice — his fiancé Noah Galvin and chocolate mushrooms — Ben Platt saw the light.
“I was feeling really joyful and really present with [Noah] and I think he could really sense that. We were having one of those deep talks on our walk and he was asking me to describe what was allowing me to feel that way, and I started to talk about what it feels like to be in our relationship and my love for him and I started to envision a physical manifestation of what it might look like inside my head,” Platt tells The Hollywood Reporter.
“Because I am super anxiety prone and a very stressed person generally, I imagine there’s lots of jagged edges and lots of sharp things poking out and prodding, and when I envision what love does, it doesn’t necessarily make those things disappear or replace them.

Charli Xcx enlists an all-cool cast — including Rachel Sennott, Chloë Sevigny, Emma Chamberlain, and Julia Fox — for her new video for “360,” the latest track off the singer’s upcoming LP Brat.

Charli Xcx is back with “360,” her latest single and the opening track of her forthcoming album, Brat.
Featuring a percussive synth-scape that’s a signature sound of Brat producer A. G. Cook, “360” sees Charli deliver an infectious melody with crisp, hyperpop vocals. On the second verse, she name-drops Cook (“You gon’ jump if A. G. made it”) and for the chorus, she sings a memorable refrain shouting out her good friend, Julia Fox, with lyrics, “When you’re in the mirror, do you like what you see?/ When you’re in the mirror, you’re just looking at me/ I’m everywhere, I’m so Julia.”
Arriving alongside the single is a cinematic music video starting with a sketch about Charli attending a meeting to “fulfill the prophecy of finding a new ‘Hot Internet Girl,'” along with Rachel Sennott, Chloe Cherry, Richie Shazam, Gabbriette (from the band Nasty Cherry), and Fox herself.

One day after the release of her third studio album, Radical Optimism, Dua Lipa pulled double duty as host and musical guest of Saturday Night Live. Though her overall screen time constituted over 36% of the May 4 episode, her specific sketch time of less than 16 minutes is the lowest for a Season 49 host so far.
Scroll down to see how Lipa stacked up against each of the show’s named performers, including surprise guests Jerry Seinfeld and Troye Sivan. Note that our screen time data is calculated using a method that prioritizes face time, meaning that any contiguous (off-screen but in-scene) moments and practically all partial body appearances do not count. Screen time in the show’s opening credits, bumpers and goodnights are not included, nor do those portions factor into our assessment of the episode’s total running time.

Last year the Grammys introduced a new category: Best Pop Dance Recording. The purpose of the category was to cleave the dance-oriented pop musicians out of the electronic categories and thus make it fairer for electronic DJs and producers who usually can’t compete against huge names like Lady Gaga or Beyoncé. The category seems to have been a success, giving space to acclaimed artists like Troye Sivan and Kylie Minogue to get on the Grammy stage; Minogue ultimately won for “Padam Padam.” While last year’s set of nominees was quite well-known, this year could produce an even more star-studded pack.

Like the hair of a Chia pet Troll doll, the "Trolls" franchise seems to never stop growing. The glittery DreamWorks reimagining of Thomas Dam's ugly-cute collectibles kicked off in 2016 with the music-filled animated adventure movie "Trolls." Since then, the movie has spawned two sequels, two holiday specials, two TV shows, a series of short films, and countless toys and tie-ins. It's also picked up an Oscar nomination (for Justin Timberlake's song "Can't Stop the Feeling!") and a cool $600 million at the box office (per Box Office Mojo) despite one of its three installments debuting during pandemic lockdown.
The "Trolls" movies are successful, but they aren't exactly the most coherent kids' movie franchise around. If you're anything like me, you've likely caught bits and pieces of several movies, potentially out of order, when the little ones in your life decided to watch (and rewatch ... and rewatch) them. Celebs have made headlines over the years when they publicly talked about their sexual preferences in bed.
Troye Sivan and Lil Nas X aren’t the only LGBTQ+ celebs who have opened up about whether they are a top or bottom in bed, so we decided to round up all the quotes.
For those who don’t know, a top prefers to be in control while having intercourse and will be the one penetrating. A bottom likes to be penetrated and to give up control. Many people consider themselves to be “vers,” which means they are versatile and swing either way in the bedroom.
While no celeb has admitted to being a “side” yet, a side is someone who does not enjoy anal penetration, but does enjoy other activities.
So, who is a top, a bottom, or vers?

Allie X is gracing New Music Friday with an album full of her signature maximalist anthems!
Exactly four years after dropping her album Cape God, the hitmaker returned with her new body of work Girl With No Face on Friday (February 23).
The album marks a new era of creativity for Allie, who experienced viral success for the first time 10 years ago with her single “Catch.” Since then, she’s worked with everyone from Troye Sivan to BTS.
Girl With No Face sees her standing on her own, and it packs a lot of fire into the tracklist overflowing with bangers like viral single “Off With Her T-ts.”
Last week, we had the opportunity to catch up with Allie to learn more about the album. She broke down its creation, which started during the pandemic. She also opened up about touring, what’s next and her very best songs.

Update: Gwyneth Goes Skiing, the stage musical comedy parody of Gwyneth Paltrow’s infamous ski trial will slide from London to the United States, via Edinburgh, later this year, with Paltrow’s former Glee co-star Darren Criss lending some pre-recorded vocal tracks.

The musical stars theater actors Linus Karp as Paltrow and Joseph Martin as optometrist Terry Sanderson, with Criss and comedian Catherine Cohen lending pre-recorded singing vocals to an unspecified number of songs for the Edinburgh and Park City stagings.

In The Heirloom, a couple facing lockdown decide to adopt a pet. It’s wintertime in Toronto, and Eric and Allie are chipping away at their Covid-restricted lives. Eric, a screenwriter, has hit a block. Together they goof around until Allie eventually asks the eternal question: why don’t we get a dog? Heirloom is the first feature of Ben Petrie, who is credited as director, editor, writer, and producer. He also stars in the film alongside his longtime creative partner Grace Glowicki, who also co-produced it––making The Heirloom not quite a Petrie-dish. What’s more, they have to share the screen with Milly, an auburn whippet rescue dog from the Dominican Republic whose cautious eyes and darting movements often steal the show.
Much like Milly, Petrie’s film works itself into a charmingly anxious mood. With few distractions, and some reason to procrastinate, Eric and Allie begin obsessing.

The Last Dinner Party put a baroque glam spin on Troye Sivan’s “One of Your Girls” during an appearance on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge.
The U.K. outfit transformed Sivan’s original from a breezy yet smoldering pop gem (off his 2023 album Something to Give Each Other) into something that seemed plucked from a dusty Seventies vault. “Give me a call if you ever get desperate/I’ll be like one of your girls,” vocalist Abigail Morris coos over a grimy, glittering wash of guitars and the pristine keen of electric keys.

The 2024 Grammy Awards ceremony is being held this weekend and we’re predicting the winners in all of the major categories!
Sza leads the pack this year with nine nominations.
In general, women are totally crushing it: Sza, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, and Miley Cyrus all dominated the biggest categories. Jon Batiste is actually the only man in the Record of the Year and Album of the Year categories.
Taylor has a chance at setting a record for most Album of the Year wins if she picks up the award for Midnights. She currently is tied for the most wins in the category with three previous wins!
Make sure to tune in on Sunday for the Grammys, hosted by Trevor Noah for the fourth time. The show is airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ starting at 8pm Et. Check out the full list of nominations.

It was a clean sweep for Taylor Swift at the 2024 Gold Derby Music Awards. She came into our fourth annual event with nine nominations and walked away with nine victories including Artist of the Year for the fourth year in a row. Watch the announcement video above for winners in all categories, and scroll down for the complete list.
In the history of the GDMAs thus far, Swift is the only artist who has won Artist of the Year. She’s also the only artist who has won Record of the Year and Song of the Year. But her Album of the Year victory for “Midnights” is only her second in that race. She previously won in 2021 for “Folklore,” but Lana Del Rey claimed that honor in 2022 for “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” and Beyonce prevailed in 2023 for “Renaissance.”

Sza enters these awards with the most nominations (nine), followed by R&b breakout Victoria Monet, alternative singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers and engineer/mixer Serban Ghenea with seven apiece. This year’s awards also marked a number of changes and updates. The Recording Academy consolidated its categories into just 11 fields in order to give voters more flexibility as to which categories they participate in.

The exciting new category of Best Pop Dance Recording at the Grammys will crown its inaugural winner soon, and it’s looking like a tight race. Right now I’m inclined to believe it’ll be Troye Sivan‘s “Rush” to take the award home.
Sign UPfor Gold Derby’s free newsletter with latest predictions
“Rush” seems to be the perfect balance of success and acclaim, unlike the other nominees. For example, many predict Kylie Minogue’s “Padam Padam” will win, especially considering the acclaim it’s gotten. But it might be at a disadvantage because the song did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100, unlike a couple of the other nominees, and has only recently crossed 100 million streams.
Inversely, there’s David Guetta, Anne-Marie, and Coi Leray’s “Baby Don’t Hurt Me,” which was pretty big, racking up 369 million streams and peaking in the top 20 on the pop airplay chart.

Google DeepMind is developing AI-driven tools that can make life easier for creators across the globe, but the development of those tools has been wrapped up in controversy. Beyoncé’s name is also in the mix, thanks to special recognition for her concert documentary, Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce from AMC Theatres. It’s not a new experience for the superstar as she was moved to tears in 2019 while accepting GLAAD’s Vanguard Award alongside Jay-Z.

I am literally getting thrown into life right now.”
Dua Lipa is thinking about her Saturn return as she says this. At 28, she’s deep in it now, but the astrology-loving star had been anticipating the foreboding planetary event for a while. Ariana Grande, who recently posted that she has completed her long-awaited seventh studio album, announced on Sunday morning that the first single from it will arrive on January 12, reports ‘Variety’. The song is apparently titled ‘Yes, And?’, a playful progression from Grande’s 2019 semi-autobiographical single and album, ‘Thank U, Next’.
The singer, notes ‘Variety’, has been featured on several hit singles in recent years — most notably the Weeknd’s remixes of ‘Save Your Tears’ and ‘Die for You’ — but she has not released an album or even a single under her own name since her sixth full-length, ‘Positions’, dropped in October 2020.
She has been hard at work on Universal’s big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical ‘Wicked’, which is due in November, and more quietly, she also split with longtime manager Scooter Braun and is now repped by Brandon Creed, adds ‘Variety’.
