A live-action Dungeons & Dragons TV series was in development for Paramount+ and had even been given an eight-episode, straight-to-series order by the streaming service, but Deadline now reports that the project is no longer moving forward.
However, the Dungeons & Dragons series isn’t entirely dead, as Hasbro Entertainment will be shopping it to other potential buyers. It’s also said the series will receive a creative update which will be tackled by a new creative team. The version which was sold to Paramount+ was overseen by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Skyscraper), who wrote the pilot script and was going to direct the first episode. Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) was brought on to serve as executive producer and showrunner last year.
The report states that Hasbro remains committed to the Dungeons & Dragons TV series, meaning that it will likely be a matter of when, not if, the project emerges elsewhere.

What really happened during the 48 hours leading up to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy — at least according to mob bosses — is heading to the big screen in the upcoming film “November 1963: The Killing of a President.”
The mob’s version of events were passed down to Chicago mob boss Sam Giancana’s nephew, Nicholas Celozzi, by Sam’s brother, the late Joseph “Pepe” Giancana, who drove around with his brother Sam during those two days.
“The reason why there’s this fascination or anxiety is because people know that what they’ve heard so far doesn’t make sense,” Celozzi tells Variety of the ongoing interest in the circumstances surrounding JFK’s assassination, even 60 years later. “They keep talking about it because they’re waiting to hear something that makes more common sense.”

“The Gray House,” the Kevin Costner-produced limited series about a female spy ring during the Civil War, will open Monaco’s 63rd annual Monte-Carlo Television Festival in June.
The six-episode limited series tells the hidden-history tale of four Southern women — a Virginia socialite and her mother, a formerly enslaved Black woman and a high-end prostitute — who served as key espionage agents for the Union. The foursome are credited as unsung heroes who helped end the nation’s brutal cleavage in 1865. Mary-Louise Parker, Amethyst Davis, Daisy Head and Ben Vereen lead the ensemble cast.
Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary produce through their Revelations Entertainment banner alongside Costner’s Territory Pictures and Big Dreams Entertainment from Republic Pictures. Paramount Global Content Distribution is handling distribution of the series but it’s not yet clear where “Gray House” will land in the U.S.

This article contains mild spoilers for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
Between Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Baldur’s Gate 3, fans of the popular tabletop roleplaying game (Ttrpg) Dungeons & Dragons had a lot going for them in 2023. Both have a lot to offer longtime fans, and prove that the game can transcend mediums and still be thoroughly enjoyable. But what’s even more compelling about the love that Honor Among Thieves and Baldur’s Gate 3 have received is the fact that they’ve brought so many newcomers into the world of Dungeons & Dragons.
Even if you don’t know a thing about D&d, Honor Among Thieves is such a fun movie to watch. The story makes this fantasy world accessible, and the cast does a great job of bringing the film’s chaotic but well-meaning band of misfits to life. There are plenty of easter eggs for D&d lovers,...

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves may not have been a box-office success, but it did receive some pretty rave reviews, but is that enough to justify a sequel? Chris Pine believes so, as he recently teased Dungeons & Dragons 2 while speaking with GamesRadar.
“I’ve heard some rumors about it,” Chris Pine said of a possible Dungeons & Dragons 2. “But I don’t know anything yet. But I feel pretty confident that it may happen.” When asked if he would return to reprise his role of Egdin Darvis, Pine responded, “Absolutely.“
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure which follows “A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people.

When the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes got underway earlier this year, many Netflix shows were left with fates up in the air.
Now that the strikes are over and Hollywood is getting back to normal, the series won't be making the cut for additional seasons are being revealed.
Deadline revealed Wednesday that Shadow & Bone, Glamorous, Agent Elvis, Farzar, and Captain Fall will not be returning.

Despite the freshman season garnering considerable buzz, Shadow & Bone Season 2 launched earlier this year to little fanfare.
Based on the Grishaverse books by Leigh Bardugo, Shadow and Bone Season 2 follows Alina Starkov, who is now on the run.
The series stars Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov), Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev), Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik...

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a movie starring Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez, as well as the great Hugh Grant with his peculiar (and marked) English accent… in the lands of Tolkien.
Very nice and with a lot more sense of humor than the previous ones. A film that blends comedy and the most inconsequential adventure genre very well.
The kind we all love.
And, above all, it knows how to distinguish itself in treatment and narrative approach from the rest of fantasy productions so hackneyed lately.

Dungeons & Dragons series: Drew Crevello joins the party as showrunner of the live-action adaptation
The Dungeons & Dragons series is gaining another party member in Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) as the showrunner of the live-action adaptation for Paramount+. Crevello will work closely with Rawson Marshall Thurber, who wrote the pilot script and will direct the first episode. The eight-episode series is a co-production between eOne and Paramount Pictures, with eOne leading the charge.
According to Deadline’s previous report, “Adapting Dungeons & Dragons for television has been a major focus for eOne under President of Global Television Michael Lombardo following the company’s 2019 acquisition by Hasbro. The live-action series has been tipped to be the studio’s largest-scope TV project ever, potentially launching a Dungeons & Dragons universe spanning multiple scripted and unscripted shows.”

The following post contains spoilers for "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves."
Before we begin, I have a confession. I've never played Dungeons and Dragons. I've always wanted to, but all the players I knew were deep in campaigns with more characters and subplots than a Tolkien appendix. It was daunting to jump in. Before seeing this movie, I didn't know a mimic from a displacer beast, and I only had a vague idea of the dangers of gelatinous cubes. After "Honor Among Thieves," I'm posting a Craigslist ad for a bard seeking a patient Dungeon Master and other rogues to join his party. Lucky for noobs like me, the internet is littered with beginner's guides. Goodbye, hours of my life. Hello, new nerd obsession.

“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” took on a big challenge as the first official D&d story to roll initiative in actual movie theaters, as opposed to playing out on tabletops and the “theater of the mind.” How the film looks — from oozes and owlbears to the towers of Castle Never to the magic missiles flung by wizards — needed to harken back to the fun of the game and work as a live-action fantasy with realistic visual logic. This was a particular challenge when it came to the many, many spells available to magic practitioners in the Forgotten Realms. The spells have a long history of what they’re designed to look like, but there was no guarantee that those beloved designs would work inside the film.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves opened to an honorable enough $38.5 million at the domestic box office, enough to take out John Wick: Chapter 4 and top the chart.
The big-budget movie — based on Hasbro’s fantasy tabletop game — came in ahead of expectations but will still need strong legs throughout April and into May in order to launch a new movie franchise for Paramount and eOne after costing $150 million to produce before marketing.
Dungeons & Dragons certainly has that chance: it earned stellar reviews and an A- CinemaScore from audiences. Upcoming spring breaks and the Easter holiday will be another advantage. But adapting games has always been tricky business. Last year, Sony’s Uncharted debuted to $44 million domestically on its way to ultimately being considered a success.

As my only experience with Dungeons & Dragons comes from the godawful live-action movie starring Jeremy Irons, I haven’t been quite sure what to expect from Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Imagine my surprise when the positive reviews started pouring in, but I shouldn’t have bet against the appeal of Chris Pine playing the lute. The film has gotten off to a great start with $5.6 million in previews and is now playing in theaters.

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses an unannounced cameo in the film “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” which is currently playing in theaters.
For “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” writer-directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley pulled from the expansive trove of creatures and lore created over the 50-year history of the Dungeons & Dragons role playing game. There are paladins and sorcerers, red wizards and owlbears, bards and barbarians — all of them written by Goldstein and Daley and performed by Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Hugh Grant, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis and Daisy Head with the same good-natured pluck that has imbued the countless campaigns waged by the game’s players.
Throughout the film, the roguish bard, Edgin (Pine), talks with the gruff warrior, Holga (Rodriguez), about Holga’s ex, Mariamin, for whom she’s still harboring feelings. At one point in the characters’ journey, Holga decides...

Who needs heroes when you have thieves?
That’s the tagline for Paramount Pictures’ “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” a big-screen adventure based upon the role-playing tabletop board game popularized in the ’70s and ’80s. The Netflix hit “Stranger Things” introduced a whole new generation to “Dungeons & Dragons.”
“Honor Among Thieves” is not the first “Dungeons & Dragons” feature film adaptation. The first, aptly titled “Dungeons & Dragons,” was released by New Line in 2000 followed by two direct-to-dvd sequels.

Chloe Coleman plays Kira, Michelle Rodriguez plays Holga, Chris Pine plays Edgin, Justice Smith plays Simon and Sophia Lillis plays Doric in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves from Paramount Pictures and eOne.
So, it appears that the Spring of 2023 may just be recalled as the season of big movies based on toys (I know Barbie is still several months away). Well, maybe not toys as much as games. The Tetris movie is streaming, and that plumbing duo returns next week, but this new/reboot flick harkens back to those pre-video game olden days. It’s not based on a board game (the box office dud Battleship may prevent another one for a while), but rather the “in-between” era. This is based on the big role-playing game juggernaut that swept the nation about 40 or so years ago. Sure there was a big studio adaptation way back in 2000 and a couple of minor sequels followed.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein bring us their latest game, sorry, film, “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Amongst Thieves,” which adapts this game of the nerds into a film about a heist, found family, and magical beings. Sound a bit familiar? Yes, yes, it is, but does that stop “Dungeons & Dragons” from being great? No, it doesn’t. As someone who has never played a video game in her life except for that one game of FIFA that was horrendous, or if Just Dance on the Ps counts, this film was still very impressive. Everyone is going to say it, so I’m going to say it too: it does remind one of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” but the film holds up wonderfully on its own and doesn’t really warrant any actual comparison.

Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez headline this fantasy action adventure thriller based on the titular Role Playing Game. Co-directed by Game Night duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves ticks all the right blockbuster boxes and could find its way to a successful franchise, with a prevailing role of a D-20.

This year's SXSW Film Festival opened with the star-studded world premiere of "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" at the historic Paramount Theater. Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Daisy Head, Rege-Jean Page, and writer/directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley were in attendance and got to bask in the glow of the explosive audience reaction.
SXSW audiences are notoriously excitable, and when that 2000+ strong crowd sees a comedy they like, the very walls shake with their laughter and applause, as evidenced by this glowing review from /Film's Jacob Hall. "Dungeons & Dragons" played very well, and that's a testament to the approach Goldstein and Daley took in crafting a movie that can work for an audience that has never rolled a D20 in their lives while also throwing in some big Easter eggs for the hardcore fans.

This weekend’s box office race sees Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves taking on John Wick: Chapter 4 in what’s bound to be an interesting contest.
Directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, Dungeons & Dragons is based on Hasbro’s influential role-playing game and features a star-packed cast led by Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Chloe Coleman, Daisy Head and Hugh Grant.
Tracking suggests the movie will open to a somewhat subdued $30 million domestically, but many box office analysts believe that number will come in higher thanks to strong early audience reaction and stellar reviews commending the movie’s smart sense of adventure and jovial spirit.
Paramount and eOne, which is owned by Hasbro, co-produced and co-financed the big-budget fantasy pic, which cost a reported $150 million to make before marketing. The film also launches in more than 50 markets overseas, including the U.

Regé-Jean Page played a "big game" of 'Dungeons' and Dragons' with his castmates to get into character for the movie adaptation. The 34-year-old actor stars as Xenk Yendar in the movie adaptation of the classic board game - which sees players embark on epic quests and level up in fantasy worlds - and revealed that just before shooting 'Honour Among Thieves', he and his castmates Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Hugh Grant, Chloe Coleman, and Daisy Head all sat down together to play the game. He told ScreenRant: "That was the most fun part of this journey, in terms of finding that dynamic with the cast. First and foremost, it was incredibly easy because you have the privilege of working with an incredibly sharp, incredibly talented, very creative cast. The way that we did that initially was we played a big game of 'Dungeons and Dragons'...

From being a magician’s victim in Netflix’s The Sandman to being a Grisha in Shadow & Bone and becoming a mysterious magical power of her own in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Daisy Head has deftly navigated the fantastic in her recent projects. Den of Geek asked her for a behind the scenes look at her character, Sofina, and the movie magic she uses in the film.
Den of Geek: Your character has an exceptionally cool series of looks in the trailers. What can you tell us about the makeup process?
Daisy Head: Firstly, I did not have to shave my head. It’s probably one of the first questions that I personally asked myself before signing onto the project, just in case. We did have to cut about half of its length so that it could fit underneath a cap.

We’re just one week away from the March 31st theatrical release date of Paramount Pictures’ Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which is based on the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game franchise – and just in case the positive reviews (there’s a bunch of them quoted in the final trailer) haven’t convinced someone to see the movie, Paramount is now using the Freaks and Geeks connection to try to lure in viewers. In the new ad that you can check out in the Twitter embed below, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves director John Francis Daley is reunited with Samm Levine and Martin Starr, his co-stars from the short-lived but beloved TV series Freaks and Geeks, which went off the air twenty-three years ago after just one season.

When I was a kid in the late 1980s, the world was very different. We didn’t have the internet, we didn’t have mobile phones, we didn’t have thousands of channels to surf and our computer game choices were limited, even more so given their expense. However, there was one option that many kids of that age in the UK had in common: the fantastic, immersive books Fighting Fantasy by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson that allowed you to make decisions and choose your adventure. They were the best thing since sliced bread, frankly, but we mention their existence here as Livingstone and Jackson were also central in bringing Dungeons and Dragons to the UK in the late 1970s which, in turn, has led us to 2023 and the latest attempt to get the famed game to the big screen.

For Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves star Chris Pine, it all started with the story.
“I have to like the script,” Pine told The Hollywood Reporter Sunday evening at the film’s Los Angeles premiere about what made him say yes to his role as the lovable, lute-playing bard Edgin. “For me, it was the fact that [Dungeons & Dragons] felt earnest and heartfelt and grounded. It didn’t feel jaded or cynical or meta or postmodern. It just was big-budget, old fashioned moviemaking. The kind of feeling of The Princess Bride and Willow and The NeverEnding Story, and all the stuff that I watched as a kid.”
With a screenplay by Michael Gilio and director duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein — and story by Gilio and Chris McKay — Honor Among Thieves is rooted in comedy, unlike some of the darker, more serious fantasy films in recent years. The...

Chris Pine is hopeful that “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” gives moviegoers a true escape from real-world problems.
“I’ve seen this film probably more than I’ve seen many of my other films because I love watching it with an audience,” the actor told me on Sunday at the film’s Los Angeles premiere. “To come out and see audience’s faces, you see exactly what cinema should do, which is people are, like, alive. They want to talk about it. They’re in a great mood. The world is so shitty so why not use this vehicle — big budget cinema — to make people feel better.”

It’s hard to believe, but it took almost a decade to bring Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves to movie screens. The film has been in development hell since 2013, with Warner Bros. initially expressing interest in bringing the tabletop role-playing game to life.
However, the film later moved to Paramount Pictures. Chris McKay and Michael Gilio were originally tapped to write and direct the movie, but were replaced in 2019 with Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who used elements from McKay and Gilio’s script.
And though there are plenty of references to the Dungeons & Dragons game, the film’s directors said they “definitely took some liberties” when making the movie.

“Shadow and Bone” Season 2 expands an already complex universe by taking on more source material from Leigh Bardugo’s books, unfurling the fictional fantasy map to explore countries in the Grishaverse and four completely new characters. And in an exclusive new behind-the-scenes featurette, costume designer Wendy Partridge explains how the season’s costumes helped tell the story.
Ben Barnes, Jessie Mei Li, Archie Renaux and the original Crows Freddy Carter, Kit Young and Amita Suman return alongside brand new characters. Both new and returning characters continue to shed layers of identity as the story develops, and these characters’ costumes reflected subtle shifts in their roles as well for Season 2.
As for where the show is headed, some of the characters’ costumes hint at that as well. Costume Designer Wendy Partridge kicked off the season by coordinating colors between Alina and Mal as they became more open about their affection for each other.
