Exclusive: Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories has teamed with producer Monica Saunders-Weinberg to adapt Fiona McIntosh’s novel The Pearl Thief as a feature film. One Life screenwriter Nick Drake is attached to write.
The Pearl Thief is billed as a sweeping, epic story love and betrayal set between 1939 and the early 1960s. Saunders-Weinberg acquired the rights and took the project to Nine Perfect Strangers maker Made Up Stories, which then attached Drake to the project.
Synopsis reads: “The stakes are high in this gripping novel set between the city of Prague and its snowy woodlands on the cusp of World War II, and later in the streets of Paris, London, and the heather-covered moors of Yorkshire in 1963.”
The plot will follow Katerina, a museum curator determined to overcome the trauma of her past and avenge the pain inflicted upon those she loved and those she’ll never know.

The Grammys are handed out every year by the Recording Academy, an organization composed of music professionals representing different genres across the industry. For multiple years their nominations for Album of the Year were decided by clandestine nomination review committees, but the academy got rid of most of those in 2021, so now the decisions are made entirely by members at large. Scroll down for our latest racetrack odds, which are based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users. Those odds are constantly changing, so we’ll be updating this list throughout the season.
SEEGrammy Album of the Year: All the Winners in Grammy Awards History
Not everyone in the industry appreciates the Grammys, though. At the 2021 awards The Weeknd didn’t get a single nomination despite an acclaimed album (“After Hours”) and a song (“Blinding Lights”) so popular that Billboard ranked it as their number-one single of 2021 and the number-one song of all time.

Drake has always been a magnet for attention. His strange journey has taken him from teen fame on Degrassi to blockbuster rap stardom. In 2024, his beef with Kendrick Lamar has blown up into one of the all-time biggest hip-hop beefs. They went from zero to 100 real quick, sending deadly insults and accusations back and forth. Yet he’s also the Drake the pop icon, the certified loverboy who sings emo ballads like the 2015 classic “Hotline Bling.”

In November, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura filed a federal lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs in New York federal court. Her lawsuit includes graphic claims of sexual assault, physical abuse, and an allegation that Combs, her ex-boyfriend, would force her to have sex with male sex workers while he watched. Ventura’s claims are among the worst, but not the first controversy that the music mogul and entrepreneur has been alleged to be involved in.

A year after hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, and only a few weeks after Kendrick Lamar’s feud with Drake culminated in a chart-topping track where he calls Drake a “colonizer,” the hottest topic on the rap internet right now is a white kid from St. Louis rapping over vintage-sounding Atlanta rap beats. Ian, whose debut mixtape, Valedictorian, caps off a run of viral hits that have quickly caught the attention and ire of rap fans online, leans heavily into the dissonance between his look and his sound. In the video...

It was the feud heard round the world — still is, really. Kendrick Lamar and Drake have traded diss tracks back and forth, and they went beyond petty beefs. Drake accused Lamar of domestic abuse, while Lamar called Drake a “certified pedophile.” In the end Lamar was considered the winner of the war according to Andre Gee of Rolling Stone and Joseph Patterson of Complex UK and Trench Magazine, among others, and their relative commercial performances bear that out, with Lamar’s “Not Like Us” topping the Billboard Hot 100. But could Grammy darling Lamar win more Grammys for so directly calling out another Grammy winner?

Denzel Washington is easily one of the most admired and respected influences in the entertainment industry, with a presence that never ceases to catch the attention of the entire room he walks in. And yet, he was very well humbled when he came in the presence of the late legendary actor best known for playing James Bond: Sean Connery.

Interestingly enough, this happened at the Oscars, and the way Washington realized — even before the announcement of the results — that he had truly been defeated by the now-deceased actor on the biggest stage in Hollywood was through one simple act that was, perhaps, common for an actor as tremendously acclaimed as Connery: A 3-minute standing ovation!

Pacific Heights has mixed aspects of status culture, domestic and psychological thriller, giving us an intense, melodramatic, and juicy entry into one of the best subgenres. Add to that a surprisingly energetic directing style, alongside Michael Keaton going full psycho, and you get a decent early 90s Thriller. Today on Revisited, we head back to the 90s and dig into Lance Vlcek’s second entry into his Domestic Thriller Trilogy.
The film stars Michael Keaton, Matthew Modine, Melanie Griffith, Mako Mako, and Laurie Metcalf. It has the following synopsis: Unmarried yuppies Patty (Melanie Griffith) and Drake (Matthew Modine) move into an expensive dream home in a high-end neighborhood in San Francisco. As they renovate the house, they look for a tenant for the first floor of their house. Dark Times contains 13 tracks and was recorded over seven months in North Hollywood. In an Instagram post, Staples revealed the album is his final release on Def Jam.
“Eleven years ago, a young, uncertain version of myself was given an opportunity with Def Jam Recordings,” he wrote. “I released my first project under their banner, Shyne Coldchain Vol 2, a year later. I was unsure of what to expect from the world of music but deeply aware of what I needed: a change in my surroundings and a clear understanding of self. Taking cues from The Cosby Show’s iconic spinoff A Different World but updated for some 30 years later, Grown-ish, the Black-ish spawn premiered on Freeform in January 2018 by following Yara Shahidi’s Zoey Johnson, Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Bow’s (Tracee Ellis Ross) firstborn, to college. Similar to its predecessor, Grown-ish tackled many controversial topics, including university investment in the prison system, drug use, pre-nil exploitation of college athletes, sex, the value of college and more, but did so with a fresh voice and perspective.
Zoey’s college world included her competing love interests — woke Black campus activist Aaron (Trevor Jackson) and ultimate hipster Luca (Luka Sabbat) — as well as Latina Republican Ana (Francia Raìsa), Jewish rebel Nomi (Emily Arlook), first-generation Indian American and all-around hustler Vivek (Jordan Buhat), Olympic-bound South Los Angeles track stars Jazz and Sky (sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey, who perform the show’s theme song) and later,...

Apple Music named its top 10 albums of all time and it focused entirely on popular music. While some older records showed up on the list, the top spot was taken by Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Hill herself reacted to this ranking.

Lauryn Hill wouldn’t have made Apple Music’s top 10 albums without ‘sacrifice’
In 2024, Apple Music named The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill the greatest album ever. It beat out several other classics. When it comes to the music industry, there is always some drama going on. Be it subtle hints hidden in lyrics or outright diss tracks, those who follow the personal lives of their favorite musicians are bound to be entertained. While it is rare for an artist to actually speak ill of someone by name, it does happen every now and then.

Over the past week or so, Apple Music has slowly unveiled the titles included in its list of the “100 best albums.” Today, the top 10 albums were revealed, with Miss Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill claiming the No. 1 spot. Rounding out the top five are Michael Jackson’s Thriller; The Beatles’ Abbey Road; Prince’s Purple Rain; and Frank Ocean’s Blonde.
The top 10 also includes Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life; Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city (Deluxe Version); Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black; Nirvana’s Nevermind; and Beyoncé’s Lemonade.
In all honestly, it’s a pretty safe top 10, especially considering the drama that unfolded when Apple unveiled picks 11-20 and slotted Adele’s 21 at No. 15 and Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) at No. 18 — ahead of albums like Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds,...

Ayo Edebiri ruled decisively on the issues that matter most to Americans — taking concert videos on their phone, proper Letterboxd and Instagram comment decorum, and taking food off other peoples’ plates — in a new “Petty Disputes” video for Vanity Fair.
For the clip, the actress was presented with several cases, in which plaintiffs brought charges of socially dubious behavior against defendants, who did their best to justify their actions. With the arrival of the Paramount+ documentary miniseries “Lolla: The Story of Lollapalooza,” alt-rock fans who attended the era-defining Lollapalooza festival in its national heyday will experience a rush of nostalgia, and viewers from Gens Z and Alpha will see and hear what Gen X has been crowing about since 1991. That’s the year Perry Farrell created a touring farewell party for his Jane’s Addiction, invited still-new bands such as Nine Inch Nails and Ice T’s Body Count for the ride, and found a tribe of like-minded rebel youth enthralled with his tribal gathering.
Farrell and the series’ director, Emmy nominee Michael John Warren, spoke with Variety about the new documentary in separate interviews. Warren is more naturally prone to rhapsodize about Lollapalooza’s rich history than Farrell, who isn’t so nostalgically inclined and has his sights set very much on what he believes could happen under...

One of the biggest and most sensational developments in modern hip-hop came in the form of the recent Kendrick Lamar-Drake feud. The two rap giants have moved ahead in a tussle, with several diss tracks being fired from both sides. Additionally, it has also involved other rappers such as the likes of Ye, Metro Boomin, and The Weeknd, calling them to choose their team. Now, in an interesting development, the latest pair to get involved in this mix is the father-son duo of Tom Hanks and Chet Hanks.

The duo’s conversation made its way to social media and has several fans rolling in hysteria and amazement. A detailed explanation from the son to the acclaimed actor, who still appeared clueless, had the Internet in splits. Regardless, the summary still highlighted the intensity of the feud and its knocking on the Hanks’ doors.

Drake & Josh star Drake Bell said in a new interview that his three-year-old son helped inspire him to vocalize the alleged sexual abuse he suffered as a child star. Bell has made headlines in recent months as the principal subject of the five-part docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, where Nickelodeon crew members, child actors, and parents detail a kids network rife with misconduct, discrimination, and abuse. In an interview that aired on Today Monday, he decided to come forward once his mental health took a dive.

Like many other folks approaching 70, Tom Hanks found himself out of the loop when the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake dominated headlines during the first week of May. So, he reached out to his son and hip-hop enthusiast, Chet Hanks, for an explanation and got a far longer response than he expected — so much so that he apparently didn’t bother reading the reply.
Chet posted the exchange in his Instagram Stories today (May 20th), which began with his father saying, “Big Main, can you explain the Drake/Kendrick Lamar feud to me?”
In response, Chet broke down how Drake and J. Cole had long claimed they were among the “Big 3” of hip-hop alongside Kendrick Lamar, which prompted Kendrick to come after them on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.”
He continued by referring to Drake’s short jokes on “Push Ups” before moving on to the meat of the beef on “euphoria,...

It’s a known fact that NetherRealm’s Mortal 1 Kombat brought an existing and fresh reboot for the long-running franchise. Although the game had its issues, fans and critics received it well thanks to its constant updates and additions of new fighters to raise the stakes further. However, one of the most striking aspects of the game was Megan Fox’s feature as one of the fighters in the game!
In Mortal Kombat 1, Megan Fox voiced Nitara, one of the franchise’s most iconic fighters. While talking about her role as Nitara, she revealed she was an avid gamer, just like many of us. While many doubted her skills, Machine Gun Kelly could vouch for her as he will never forget Fox’s gaming dominance.

Whenever we think about blood, gore, and intense violence, only one name pops up in our mind: Mortal Kombat. NetherRealm’s iconic franchise is extremely popular among gamers and features some of the best fighting experiences ever. On the flip side, the Mortal Kombat movie, released in 2021, wasn’t that big of a success.
However, that hasn’t stopped Warner Bros. from taking a second chance and releasing another movie. The upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 is a fresh start and features big names Karl Urban and Jessica McNamee. While that’s all good, Warner Bros. has completely dropped the ball by not casting Dwayne Johson as Shao Kahn.

As in recent finale episodes, Michael Che and Colin Jost wrote each other’s jokes during the Weekend Update segment in this year’s Season 49 finale. The idea is “to give each other fun jokes, almost supportive jokes, that would never ruin our summer or career,” Jost explained. Though, of course, the exercise devolved into the most giggly affair as the two comedians read provocative lines that would otherwise be deemed tasteless.

Kanye West and Elon West were two unlikely celebrities who became friends and supported each other during the 2010s. Musk was especially vocal about West being an inspiration and one of the most influential people of their time. The two continued showing up for each other, but it all crumbled in 2022.
Elon Musk in the Netflix documentary Return to Space
Musk infamously banned West from X for posting anti-semitic tweets and violating the company’s policy. A fan recently brought together the two personalities for a surprisingly well-edited video where the two opened up about their life and their fascination with spaceships and rockets. The level of precision and flow of the dialogues of the fan-made interview is just mind-blowing.

Colin Jost and Michael Che continued their Saturday Night Live “Weekend Update” tradition of swapping jokes and writing zingers for each other to say.
Che started by saying that the last time he tricked Jost into thinking he had invited a civil rights hero, “and that was low. So to make it up to you this time, I invited an actual, practicing rabbi.”
Jost started off by addressing the Jerry Seinfeld commencement speech at Duke where students were seen walking out.
“I think that’s disgraceful. During these difficult times it’s important to support our Jewish friends. That’s why the only chant you’ll hear from me is, ‘Free [Harvey] Weinstein!,'” Jost read.

Forget the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine. Bill Maher spent the first segment of Friday’s Real Time asking about a cultural battle – the feud between rappers Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
To explain the war of words, Maher brought in Michael Eric Dyson, a professor at Vanderbilt University and author of the book Unequal: A Story of America.
Dyson blamed the feud on a personality clash. “Kendrick Lamar didn’t like the fact that Drake was who he was,” a resentment dating back years. It kept brewing until it “blew up in one particular song,” which was Like That, a 2024 collaboration by Future, Metro Boomin, and Lamar.
Dyson said verbal battles are not unusual in the Black community. He pointed out that Drake, a Canadian, has been accused of being a “culture vulture” who is not socially conscious. “So his Blackness was put into question,” Dyson said.

The Drake-Kendrick Lamar showdown will continue — at the 2024 BET Awards.
The rappers will compete in two categories at the June 30 show: best male hip-hop artist and best collaboration. In the latter category, Drake is nominated for “Rich Baby Daddy” with Sza and Sexyy Red, while Lamar is nominated for his guest verse on the remix of Beyoncé’s “America Has a Problem.”
Drake is the show’s top contender with seven nominations, thanks to his album For All the Dogs (Scary Hours Edition). Lamar didn’t release an album that was eligible this year. Cole’s “First Person Shooter,” the late 2023 track that reignited his feud with Lamar.

After knocking her set out of the park at last week’s roast of Tom Brady, comedian Nikki Glaser has been discussing the controversial live TV event, including new regrets from the former New England Patriots quarterback to the live ribbing marathon, and how she received a note from Kim Kardashian calling the experience a form of “abuse.”
Following the May 6 roast of The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady, Brady said on The Pivot Podcast that he enjoyed when comedians took humorous jabs about nearly all aspects of his life but that he didn’t care for the jabs aimed at his family, adding that the comments impacted his children, “the people [he] care[s] about most in the world.”
“I feel like maybe he didn’t consider the backlash from his family and how it would affect them, and I do understand that,” Glaser said on Wednesday’s Today with Hoda and Jenna.
