Every casting director auditioning Brits in their 20s has Nicholas Galitzine and Leo Woodall on their wish list these days, as evidenced by the fact that both have auditioned for roles that ended up going to the other. This conversation — about Galitzine’s “Mary & George,” the Starz series about George Villiers’ affair with King James I, and Netflix’s “One Day,” starring Woodall as Dexter, who falls in love with his best friend over two decades — marks their first time meeting in person. The heartthrobs’ rapport is immediate, thanks to Instagram DMs they’ve already shared about how, as Galitzine puts it, “a lot of acting prep is very pretentious and twat-y.”
Nicholas Galitzine: We just found out that we support rival football teams.
Leo Woodall: We already kind of hate each other.
Galitzine: The fact that you support Chelsea tells me a lot about who you are as a person.

2007’s Children of Men, a dystopian action thriller, made just $76 million at the box office but is still remembered due to the directorial genius of Alfonso Cuaron. Far before Cuaron impressed the world, and us, with his space epic Gravity, he demonstrated his ability to produce innovative storytelling with the use of powerful single-shot sequences, which made the movie an inspiration for newer directors looking to widen their skillset.

Regardless, a recent Twitter post has once again put the spotlight on one particular single-sequence shot, which in itself results in a harrowing scene, that has the potential to scare people even years after the movie was first released.

Harlots (2017-2019)
One of the aspects of life that many shows only briefly touch on is the way aristocrats treated the prostitutes they visited. Harlots focuses on them and follows Margaret Wells, a woman who runs a brothel in 18th century London and does everything in her power to ensure a better future for her own daughters.

In 2016, the National Rifle Association was the single biggest outside donor to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, dropping $30 million dollars to help ensure his election. But a lot has changed since then. In 2020, amid dwindling revenue and revelations the group was misusing funds, the NRA committed roughly half that amount behind Trump’s effort to remain in the White House.

One of the most celebrated comedies of 1999 is “Notting Hill,” starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. Written by Richard Curtis and directed by Roger Michell, the film tells of a famous movie actress named Anna Scott who falls in love with a small-town England bookstore owner named William Thacker. Released 25 years ago in May 1999, “Notting Hill” was a major box office success, grossing $364 million worldwide on a $42 million budget. Read on for more about the “Notting Hill” 25th anniversary.
The nation’s critics gave mostly positive reviews to “Notting Hill,” unusual for a studio romantic comedy. Derek Elley in Variety wrote, “[The film] has buckets to spare of that rarest screen commodity — genuine, engaging charm — plus a cast and production values that fully deliver.” Wesley Morris in San Francisco Examiner said, “Director Michell isn’t content to rest on his stars’ slapstick laurels, mining instead the more sophisticated if subversive socio-romantic pratfalls in Curtis’ script.

France has never had trouble getting people to fall in love with its many pleasures: the Eiffel Tower, the Palace of Versailles, the Louvre, and the island majesty of Mont Saint-Michel. It sells itself, which is probably why it is such a sought-after backdrop for television series.
But in the last year, France has been shown even more love than usual, as more than half a dozen shows, all vying for Emmy attention this season, explored the country through the ages. And no, this wasn’t some elaborate promotion for the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
From the 1600s to the modern day to a post-zombie apocalypse future, no cultural stone went unturned on TV this year, giving viewers even more reason to book their next (hopefully zombie-free) vacation.

A Shenandoah County, Virginia school board voted to restore the names of Confederate military leaders to a high school and an elementary school.
The vote occurred four years after they were removed during nationwide protests demanding a reckoning over racial injustice. In Virginia, local governments were banned from removing Confederate memorials and statues until the law was changed in 2020 after police killed George Floyd in 2020.
Statues of Confederate leaders, including Robert E. Lee, Andrew Jackson and Confederate President Jefferson Davis, were removed from Richmond’s famed Monument Avenue in 2020 and 2021 after protests and vandalizing of these statues.
Shenandoah County is one of the most politically conservative counties in the state.
In a reversal experts think was the first of its kind, Shenandoah County’s school board voted 5-1 to rename Mountain View High School, Stonewall Jackson High School and Honey Run Elementary Ashby Lee Elementary.

D.C. Moore took a rare foray into television for his Starz limited series Mary & George, having last penned an entire series nearly a decade ago with the British drama-comedy, Not Safe For Work.
Taking inspiration from one of the more lively periods in British history, Mary & George, based on Benjamin Woolley’s non-fiction book The King’s Assassin, stars Julianne Moore as a single mother who is determined to gain notoriety (read: money) for her family. Even if it means volunteering her son, played by Nicholas Galitzine, as a lover for King James.
Written by Moore and directed by Oliver Hermanus, the opening episode, titled “The Second Son,” sets the tone for the series and introduces Mary Villiers (Moore) as quite a mastermind in 15th century England. As a commoner,...

Sydney Sweeney has had an interesting trajectory in the industry with the actress being one of the most promising among the current bunch of actors in their 20s. Despite her talent and range as an actress that she has proved in projects like Euphoria, Anyone But You, and Immaculate, the actress has been mostly seen as the sexy blonde who frequently goes n*de in most of her projects.

Sweeney has been open about how she is aware of those criticisms, and how her family is okay and comfortable with her going n*de on screen. However, one of the stars from Bridgerton, Nicola Coughlan had a contrasting response from her parents about the n*dity in her show.

The prequel film we have all been waiting for is finally here and I am really happy to say that it is as brilliant and bombastic as the original film. Obviously, we are talking about Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the prequel to George Miller‘s 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road. Directed by Miller from a screenplay by Nico Lathouris and Miller, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga follows the story of a young Furiosa as she is taken from Green Place of Many Mothers and tries to survive in the wasteland while trying to get back home but the war between great biker horde’s warlord Dementus and Immortan Joe makes it harder. Replacing Charlize Theron from Fury Road, Anya Taylor-Joy takes over the role of Furiosa in the prequel film and it also stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Lachy Hulme, John Howard, Angus Sampson, and Nathan Jones. Kevin Costner rode into Cannes with cowboy swagger, making finger pistols on the red carpet to cheers from the crowd ahead of the premiere for Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1, a partially self-financed western that is one of the biggest swings of his long career.
Inside the Grand Lumiere Theatre, Costner was greeted with extended applause (including from some guests wearing cowboy hats) before the first public screening of the $90 million-plus budgeted film that is planned as part one of a four-part saga.
Three hours later, as the credits rolled, the crowd delivered a standing ovation that began to taper off at around the four-and-a-half-minute mark, but then continued on for a total of around ten minutes, ending when a tearful Costner took the microphone to speak about his film, which he directed, produced, co-wrote and stars in.

Julianne Moore says the film industry has “changed dramatically” since she started out in the early 1990s when it comes to female representation.
Speaking as part of Kering’s Women in Motion program at the Cannes Film Festival, the Oscar winner said one of the most noticeable differences is when it comes to career longevity for actresses.
“Meryl [Streep] said this too the other day [during the festival’s opening ceremony], this idea that when she was 40, she thought it was all going to be over,” she said. “I think we’re now seeing women represented through all stages of their lives, which is very exciting.”
In the conversation, moerated by Variety senior entertainment writer Angelique Jackson, Moore noted that she is now seeing not just more female directors, but more women working as camera operators, grips and in the electric department. “Whereas before there were none,” she said. “But we’re still really far from gender parity.

When people talk about the recent Spanish audiovisual boom, they often highlight as a key turning point the government’s identification of the industry as a “strategic” one. Gone are the days when naysayers jeered the subsidization of a snoozy cinema sector. Today, young people flock to film schools, international producers are setting up shop in Spain and busy crews are getting trained on some of the world’s biggest productions. Times have changed.
Then again, times are constantly changing, and as this story was being reported, the head of Spain’s film-friendly administration, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, announced he might resign over “harassment” of his family, rankling nerves in the film sector. Prime’s prominent chart leader, Anne Hathaway’s romantic comedy The Idea of You has rekindled people’s interest in the movies exploring the topic of the romances between people with significant age differences. However, in the case of Hathaway’s movie and other similar romcoms the age-gaps are still within the bounds of law and moral.
There is a movie, brutally showing the other side of such romances. It was one of the main hits of the last year and nowadays it’s still watched by Prime Video’s viewers a lot.
Its plot revolves around an actress in the research for her upcoming role in an independent film. We learn that she is set to play Gracie, a woman, infamous for seducing a 13 year-old boy Joe when she was 36 and was imprisoned for rape of him.

Following its huge success with Red, White & Royal Blue, the adaptation of Casey McQuiston’s bestseller, which last year came in as one of its top three most-watched romantic comedies of all time, Amazon MGM Studios has greenlighted development on a sequel, with stars Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez set to return.
After making his feature debut with the first film, Matthew López has returned to write the script for the sequel — this time, alongside McQuiston. Berlanti Schechter Films’ Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will return to produce the film, joined by the banner’s Michael McGrath, as well as López. McQuiston will executive produce.
Released last August, Red, White & Royal Blue follows Alex Claremont-Diaz (Perez), who upon his mother’s (Uma Thurman) election as President, is promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, brilliant — his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House.

The biggest rising star of the moment, Nicholas Galitzine is everyone’s favorite, including his famous colleagues. Having recently starred in Starz’s unhinged historical drama show Mary & George alongside Julianne Moore, Galitzine never moved back to the shadows jumping straight to his other big release this year, Michael Showalter’s romcom The Idea of You with Anne Hathaway in the leading role.
While still promoting Prime Video’s new hit, the actor revealed he’d received a very peculiar gift from Hathaway after they struggled filming some specific scenes.
In his recent interview to British GQ, Galitzine said both he and Anne Hathaway had some trouble while filming their kissing scenes. According to the actor, they were so tense that their “intimacy coordinator would come in and give us a Listerine strip” so that both actors would feel more confident fresh mint breath.

Nicholas Galitzine recently told British GQ that he felt somewhat guilty when deciding whether or not to play a gay character as a straight man because he does not want to take up anyone else’s space or opportunities. Galitzine starred opposite Taylor Zakhar Perez last year in Prime Video’s popular gay romance film “Red White and Royal Blue,” and he’s currently a co-lead opposite Julianne Moore in the Starz drama “George & Mary.” Galitzine’s character in the series is queer.
“I identify as a straight man, but I have been a part of some incredible queer stories,” Galitzine told the publication. “I felt a sense of uncertainty sometimes about whether I’m taking up someone’s space, and perhaps guilt. At the same time, I see those characters as not solely their sexuality.”

Drew Barrymore went in a different direction in the ’90s, as the long-time star has now confirmed that she once opted to play Cinderella instead of a porn star. The actress recently shared on an episode of her eponymous talk show “The Drew Barrymore Show” (via The Hollywood Reporter) that she did in fact turn down a role in “Boogie Nights.” Barrymore has long been rumored to have been considered for the Rollergirl part, which later went to Heather Graham.
“It’s so hard when you, like, are thinking of doing a film and then you don’t end up doing it,” Barrymore said. “I have so many of those experiences. I’ve never said this out loud, ‘Boogie Nights.’ There was a moment where we were talking about ‘Boogie Nights’ and I think it’s when I went and did ‘Ever After’ [‘A Cinderella Story’] and I went in a very different direction.

Janet Jackson and Drew Barrymore are looking back at their acting careers and revealing some iconic movies they passed on.
The singer made a surprise appearance on Friday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, and in a preview clip, Jackson shared which legendary superhero she almost played.
After being asked if she was supposed to star in The Matrix, she responded, “No.” Jackson added that she couldn’t remember the film’s name but knew who got the role when she turned it down.
“It was…this is horrible,” the Good Times alum said. “I can’t remember the film, but Halle Berry played Storm.” Barrymore exclaimed in response, “X-Men?”
“I couldn’t because I was just embarking on the Janet tour,” Jackson continued. “But I think that’s what you’re confusing it with. It wasn’t The Matrix.”
