Bad Trip (2021)
It made me laugh!
Is Bad Trip a good movie? Not really. Did I laugh, yes on mutiple occasions! Basically this movie is a series of sketches, similar to Borat and Bad Grandpa. If you liked these movies, chances are you'll enjoy Bad Trip! Most sketches are absurd and gross, ( e.g. The gorilla sketch, the "finger"..trap sketch, the drunk sketch) but I have to be honest, I find that amusing.
It's perfectly fine movie for a Friday evening, when you are tired from your week and had a few beers!
Other than that, you might not enjoy it!
La chute de l'empire américain (2018)
Pure Denys Arcand
If you liked what Denys Arcand did before you should like this movie. So first of all, I'm not a fan of the title, because it might hint that's it's a sequel to the "Déclin" which it is not. (Although Girard and Curzie play in both movies, but it's not the same characters.) They should have kept the original title "Triumph of Money". You will find in this movie very good dialogues, good action and a feel good sentiment at the end. There is a lot of cameos from various Quebec actors. Landry delivers a strong performance, his character, a very intelligent but naive man who seems to despise the world but who's always trying to help the poor and the disenfranchised. Morin is surprisingly good especially since I think it's her first role (and she's wonderfully pretty). Girard, who plays a biker that just got out of jail, is good as usual, (although I felt that some lines could have been from "Les Bougons") and of course I loved Curzie who's playing a crooked investment advisor. Personally, I think it might be my favorite Arcand so far. "Le Déclin" was funnier though. I strongly recommend this movie!
The Rain (2018)
It could have been good but it's mediocre at best.
When I looked the trailer, I was interested. The production seemed good, and I always loved the post-apocalyptic setup. But then, after only a few minutes I started to realize that I might not like that show. I always hate, when they portray the kids in TV shows a complete morons. Imagine that you parents knows that it's the end of the world, I would assume that you would understand the emergency only by looking at your parent's reactions. Instead the writers decided to write stupid characters that you wonder how can they actually survive this situation. It's the end of the world just shout to your kids to shut up and that you'll explain later.
Instead, the kids cause a car accident because they are just stupid by asking questions and complaining. Then they cause the death of their mother, by acting like morons. I kept watching because I was curious to see how it would turn out...
Most of what happens during this season is improbable, not-realistic and plain stupid. Having a bunch of teens is not the best cast for a post-apocalyptic series. They are naive, they always take irrational and bad decisions. And I'm not even going to talk about the plot which is very thin. Overall, I've seen worst, and maybe you 15 year old teen might enjoy, but that's about it. I'm not going to watch the 2nd season.
Battleship (2012)
Anothey cheesy action CGI Movie
I wonder why they still make movies like this one. I've got to say that I didn't expected a lot at first, mainly because of the trailer. It was pretty clear form the beginning that this was another action flix. Anyway, this was an okay action movie but jeez, this movie is a bunch of cheesy stereotypes. I would say that it's a mix of Transformers, ID4, Pearl Harbour and Star Trek (2009). This movie is a big cliché. It takes 20 minutes to make us understand that the main character is a James T. Kirk like rebel, in his quest to flirt with the hottest women in the bar makes a stupid move. He then enrol in the navy like Kirk did in Starfleet. After a few moments of alien invasion, only one man can save the world. The moron that became the captain managed to stop the advanced aliens. At the end, like every American blockbuster movie, we can tell who's gonna win, and they did. The characters are all clichés and this movie is another pro-army promotion. So, only watch if you like CGI!
Diary of the Dead (2007)
Could the characters be more stupid?
I really like zombie movies and I've watched all the DEAD series, but this one was really stupid. With a zombie movie, we don't need introductions, we all know what to expect and that's okay!
We don't need a big scenario with zombie movies, we want actions, we want blood, we want explosions etc. We don't need to know how the characters feels, we don't give a ****! They are being chased by zombies, we kinda imagine what it fells like. There was too much useless dialogs.
Second thing, the whole idea of filming what happens is not a bad idea, but we sure don't need the whole movie to be filmed a ''handy cam style''. But after I watched this one, I told myself: Could they have made the characters more stupid? The are running for there lives, and the moron films the whole thing without helping his friends?? What kind a imbecile would react like that?
The specials effects were great, but we saw maybe 10 zombies getting the brain blown. And at the end, when they could have made a rampage, the movie ends. So when the movies finishes, we know nothing more than what they told us in the first few minutes. This movie felt like Clover field... VERY Disappointing....
Tears of the Sun (2003)
Nice Movie: Cliché, though good!
When this movie came out, I didn't want to see it because it seemed to be another American war movie. OK, it is! Though it's a good movie. The only part that tickled me was that this conflict never happened. But, I think even if it's an invented story, it could fit with a lot of situations of Civil Wars in Africa. It would have been better if at least they had invented the country's name instead of picking Nigeria... Another interesting thing is how the US Army, reacts to the fact that a lot of civilians are gonna get killed, and they order the soldiers not to bring them. I think that the goal of the movie was to show us to the ongoing conflicts in Africa and third World, how it is difficult to achieve peace and how our Soldiers must react to those situations. It also shows us that Americans (occident maybe) don't really care about Africans I guess, this movie depicts that the soldiers were there only to do their mission. It was a great scene to see that the soldiers were ready to give their lives to save the villagers (Very Cliché, I agree) and finally all dying to achieve a good action. In overall this movie was great. The reason why I saw this movie is because I'm a Hans Zimmer's fan, and I appreciate his dramatic violin Soundtracks. I think that this one is my second favorite after Gladiator.
Anyway, this movie is Hard, violent, there is a lot of blood, and there is a strong moral, but I would not dare say it's better than Blood Diamond, but it's the same genre.
Battlefield Earth (2000)
Okay but...
It's not the best movie out there, but I've seen worst. The general idea was not that bad.(actually I Liked it: maybe if they do a serious remake, it could be nice, but since the critics in general sucks, I don't think so...) and I guess that they could have done better! When I rent this DVD, I had no idea what this movie was about. (I had heard the harsh critics, so I thought that this movie was really bad),but after the completion, I was not frustrated or in laugh because of the petty Special FX, it was OK for a DVD rental ... for a Friday night movie. Personally I love post-apocalyptic movies, so the theme was fine with me. Of course there was a lot of inconsistency (like the fuel in the planes that was still okay after 1000 years... ) but it's a movie and I didn't expected it to be perfect... So if you have low expectations, you may find this film enjoyable!
