Madre Solo hay Dos (2021)
Season 1 was good, but Season 2? Not so much.
I hate the route they've gone with Season 2. I grew tired of all the contrived drama and conflict. I'm highly suspicious now that the creators are just queerbaiting. If they don't develop a clear romance between Ana and Mariana in Season 3, I'm quitting this show.
Friends (1994)
All-Time Best Sitcom
I love this show so much! F.R.I.E.N.D.S is a sitcom that you could easily binge-watch at any time of the day. I was able to finish the whole 10 seasons, which ran for 10 years, in under a month. That's just how great it is! I can't even give it a negative review about anything. You'll just really learn to love all the characters through time. No wonder people have clamored for a reunion with the cast, you just can't get enough of it.
When you're feeling down and think you could use a good laugh, put this one on top of your to-watch list. It doesn't matter that the show ran from 1994-2004, the humor it had is timeless!
In a perfect world where we could pick a series that could run forever, F.R.I.E.N.D.S would be that show. Notice how different TV networks are still doing re-runs at present time even after it has ended back in '04. You'll find that a new generation of viewers who are watching and loving it are surprised to discover that the cast are quite old already. Nothing could beat it.
Begin Again (2013)
A Different Kind of Feel-Good Movie
If you're in to see this movie with hopes of getting a deep story of how things will progress, then you're clearly watching it for the wrong reason. From the trailers itself, it was obvious that the film will have a simple plot, yet holds a promise for a successful soundtrack. The real challenge for the filmmakers was to make this simple plot an enjoyable one, and they pretty much nailed it. The technique they used to show how the characters' paths meet, from their individual stories, is underrated. And while it teased our romantic hearts into thinking there's a love story to be expected somewhere along the way, I commend the fact that the writers didn't give in to the demands of romanticism which could have possibly categorized this as a romance film, when it clearly isn't supposed to be. Another underrated fact about this film is that it shed some light on how the music industry transforms different artists. When applied in the real world setting, this film speaks volumes of whom artists let themselves become when fame hits them.
The music in this film is what brought it to success. If you're gonna judge it based on the story, then look into the background stories that inspired each song to their fruition. Watch this and see that the songs you'll find here are magic, and are sure to linger in your heart.
Me Before You (2016)
Realistic
I did not read the book. When I saw the trailer, I thought the movie was going to be boring, but I was wrong. To regard it as "one of the best romantic films of its time" is a mistake, but to say that it is bad is not exactly right either. While there isn't something breathtakingly new about the film, I could, however, easily recommend it to someone who's tired of watching films with endings which only aim to satisfy most of the audience's desire.
One quirk of Emilia Clarke that kind of distracted me with her acting is her overly expressive eyebrows. She is beautiful and lovely, no doubt about that. But her eyebrows stole the show in some scenes from time to time. I'm not entirely sure either if it was meant to be that way, but the wardrobe they had for Lou (Emilia Clarke) was terrible. I mean I get that her choice of clothes was supposed to make a statement about her personality, yet I was hoping for them to achieve that without making the character look silly.
With regard to the ending, others find it ironic that Will (Sam Claflin) is instructing Lou to do something that he himself intends to defy. But what I think these people fail to realize is that Will and Lou's life conditions are not the same. The challenge Lou faces in her life is not on par with the difficulty being suffered by Will. I believe the lesson to be learned from Me Before You* is to do something significant with your life. And if you pay close attention to what happened in the ending, you will see that both characters were able to accomplish just that.
*Better than "The Fault in Our Stars"
The Mist (2007)
Annoyingly Stupid
I don't understand what the fuss for this film was all about. If you wanna watch a typical horror film wherein the characters' every decision seems so stupid it would hurt your thinking brain, then this is definitely a must-see film to watch.
The storyline is so shallow that you just can't wait for it to be over. And near the end, just when you thought the stupidity of it all is about to be done, the movie ends in the absolute worst possible way. Throw in a bad acting from Thomas Jane in a poor attempt to show how an excruciatingly distressed person reacts, and you've got yourself a painfully awful scene to watch. Funny how it makes you laugh instead of sympathize with the character.
I find myself refraining from using expletives to describe this film, and that pretty much says just how bad it is.
Identity (2003)
A Brilliant Thriller with an Unforeseen Twist
I would have rated it a perfect 10/10 if not because of this:
The movie ended with an inconclusive state for Ginny.
If we say she did not survive, we assume two scenarios: (1) Each key represents the personality that was killed off in Malcolm's psyche. So, all in all 10 personalities have died. (2) Ginny was the sixth one to be killed. This means that she has key #5 with her - remember that we are counting the killings in descending order.
HOWEVER..
It was shown nowhere in the movie how Ginny was killed by Timmy. So, it can be said that aside from Timmy (who was seen walking away from the car explosion), Ginny (whose body was never found after the explosion) also remained alive.
Although we can safely say that the reason why we never saw Ginny's body after the explosion was because it happened at the same time all the bodies started disappearing, it would have been better if they showed the scene where Timmy killed Ginny. Like, for example: As soon as Ginny and Timmy got inside the car, Timmy gets out while Ginny starts the engine. Timmy runs away from the car as far as he can (because he knows it's about to explode), and as Ginny steps out of the car to call Timmy, the car explodes.
Unbreakable (2000)
It could have been great
Unbreakable failed to avoid being characterized as "boring." The slow-paced unfolding of the story would have been acceptable if there was some sort of big mystery anticipated to be revealed that somehow kept you on your seat. Its detailed way of telling a story about a birth of a superhero, which they leave out in most superhero films, may be considered as this film's strength or weakness. In a way, this detailed storytelling about the protagonist's self-discovery is unconventional because it presents a more down to earth perspective of what the character is feeling or is going through. On the other hand, it also makes you realize why these minute details are purposely left out in most superhero films -they only tend to prolong the story without adding real value to the plot.
Moreover, the ending was such a letdown. As soon as Elijah said, "I think this is where we shake hands," you can instantly tell the "big reveal" of the film. You would think that after all the pain they went through in trying to keep this certain revelation unexpected, they would deliver it in a more subtle yet surprising way. But that didn't happen. Overall, it's difficult to recommend this movie to a friend.
Oh, and if anyone makes an excuse and says, "It's just that this movie is not for everyone," well, be informed that I have had my fair share of appreciating films that are "not for everyone," and this film does not make the cut.
