Fickende Fische (2002)
A perfect movie
I had been looking for this movie for a long time because my brother had seen it in a festival and told me how great it was. However, not even once during the time I spent searching for this movie did I read a summary of the plot, I had no idea of what the story was, I knew that the title meant 'Fucking Fish' or something like that but I never stopped thinking of what it would be about; so today as I was watching the movie I was becoming increasingly satisfied and surprised by the plot. It is a love story, but it is told in a magnificent way and due to the conditions of the relation it is not your average love story. Acting is amazing and the characters are easy to identify with. I'm not telling anything more, because I believe the best way to enjoy this movie is being unaware of it beforehand, let the movie take you by surprise.
I know this movie is not easy to get (at least in my country), so if you can get ahold of one copy, watch it and see for yourself why this is a beautiful and excellent story.
Hotaru no haka (1988)
The saddest movie ever
I've just finished watching this movie and I still have tears in my eyes; it's the saddest story I have ever seen, specially in an animated film. It goes way beyond of what someone would think an animation could go. It is almost impossible to bear, as each moment gets sadder. Definitely, it is a must see and, I think, a breakthrough in animation.
Seeing it from a technical point of view, the animation is very smooth and very well accomplished; but in the end that's something that doesn't really matter. The plot is the thing that makes this one of the best movies ever.
There's no way a movie can get sadder. From the first line until the last one, each one breaks a little the heart of the viewer.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
An awesome adaptation
I am a huge fan of Roald Dahl's work and I think that this was an awesome adaptation; yes, there are some major things that weren't on the book (as well as a lot of minor details, like the fact that in the book, both of the parents of every child, except Charlie visit the factory as well); but in general (I think) it's better than the 1971 film.
The performance of Johny Depp as Willy Wonka is way much better than the one that Gene Wilder did once. This new Willy Wonka is more interesting while the one Gene did was very cold. Also, the performance of the children is less cheesy now. The background they gave to Wonka wasn't really necessary but it gave a new spin to the story, when in the end, Wonka won't allow Charlie's family into the factory.
Another thing that shows how well adapted is this new version, is the fact that they respected Dahl's lyrics and gave them incredible music (well, I couldn't expect less form Danny Elfman).
One thing that worried me was the Oompa-Loompas, because everybody had the image of the 1971 film; but the performance of Deep Roy is simply amazing and it was such a bright idea to put him as every Oompa-Loompa.
So, it is a marvelous movie, I would say flawless. I dare to say that it is as good as the book.
Dogville (2003)
Such an amazing movie
When I saw Dancer in the Dark, I saw it just because Björk appeared there. However, the movie turned out to be one of the greatest I had ever seen; so when I heard about this new movie from Lars Von Trier, I thought that I just had to watch it. Specially after seeing the trailer because it seemed really clever and original to use that scenery.
At that time I had heard some comments about the movie telling that it was "slow", "boring", but when I saw it, I didn't find it boring at all. As a matter of fact, it's one of the best movies that my eyes have seen (it is even better than Dancer in the Dark) and I think that everybody (mature enough, of course) should see it. It gives you a lot to think about, and the end it's the most surprising thing ever. I'm not going to ruin the end for those who haven't seen it, but I can tell it's going to shock you. Besides, the movie is filled with different emotions and even thought its duration is longer than two hours, the way that the movie is told makes it so impressive.
So this is a 10.
BTW: Nicole Kidman is an awesome actress
Street Fighter (1994)
A weird, horrible movie
I have always been a huge fan of the Street Fighter series in video games. So when this movie came out I was really excited, of course I was way too young to appreciate a movie, but I can tell that back then I thought it was horrible.
A few years ago it was aired on TV and (I don't why) I saw it again. And I found it kind of funny. The story is all twisted if it gets compared with the video games story; I mean, in the video game, Ryu is the most important character and in the movie it is hardly seen. Cammy is a creation of Bison (in the video game), so she is part of the bad guys, while in the movie she is friend of Guile. A lot of intentional mistakes were made in order to transform what could be a good story into a useless-action-movie.
I hoped to see hadoukens and spinning kicks when I first saw the movie, but there is nothing of that. In other words, the movie sucks.
PS: Kylie Minogue, who played Cammy in the movie, declared later that she was completely sorry of shooting such a bad movie.
