Keinohrhasen (2007)
enjoyable but flawed
I really have to support KWiNK in his statement, that this film was great but could have been much better.
I enjoyed this film very much and I can only recommend it to almost anybody, but it really has some flaws that keep gnawing on your mind when you leave the Theater... why the random nudity, what happened to his sisters son, where the hell did Jürgen go, why did Nora dress up for Tramitz, but not for Jürgen, where did all the eggs and tomatoes in the theater come from...
the result was the Beta-Version of a really really good movie.
7 out of 10 points from me
The Departed (2006)
Nothing new
This Film was really good work, the Actors (expecially DiCaprio and Damon) were perfect and the storytelling was as we'd expect from the director, however this film didn't bring anything new. It is a copy of Internal Affairs from 2002 and while some aspects are better (DiCaprio) some other aspects don't reach the original(check for PhoChris's comment).
This film is worth your 5$, but it's not something extraordinary... In the end I wouldn't rate it higher than the original, which got a straight 8. Check out: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338564/ for the original.
PS: SPOILER : The end seems constructed to satisfy the audiences need for justice, but in my opinion it just was one head shot too much...
Lost in Translation (2003)
What to expect....
Most negative comments criticized the lack of action or story in this film, which is totally true. However one wouldn't watch Rambo 1-3 for the character development or deep emotions either.
When you want to watch this film don't expect a story, but try to be open to the emotions presented in this movie. You will see 2 characters "stranded" in an alien environment, trying to find someone to hold on to.
There is some Character development, some comedy and even some action, but to me the essence of this movie are the strong emotions like loneliness, uneasiness (jet-lag, culture-shock, insomnia) and love.
This film moved me deeply and I give it 10 points for its realistic, strong yet subtle portrayal of emotion.
Be Cool (2005)
I liked it :)
After reading all those bad reviews I'm ashamed to admit that I loved this movie:) Actually I wanted to see something else but then we watched Be Cool and were really surprised (This might have affected my perception of the movie). It surely has a different style from the first movie but the plot is quite similar (many people hate films that aren't what they expected).
Cool guy (Travolta) just walks into a new business playing to his own rules and ...spoiler...winning. The culture clash of Russian mafia meets gangsta meets music business was really funny to watch. However I'm from Germany so its not really the world I'm living in and it might have been boring for Americans/gangstas/Russians who didn't like those stereotypes.
My personal opinion: If you haven't seen the first movie or if you don't have problems seeing a sequel that isn't strictly faithful to its predecessors style this movie is real fun to watch! It has some adult language, random violence and nurtures some bad prejudices, but in my opinion those can be the components of a good comedy.
PS: I love films that pay attention to small details and this movie had lots of them! Like Uma's sofa, John's car and the Rock's eyebrow :)
