A Silly Movie for Silly People
23 August 2023
It's stupendously silly. This is one of those films where if all of Monty Python showed up in a scene to put a stop to it no one would be surprised. The Mystery Science Theater guys would blow themselves out of an airlock to escape this movie, but even they aren't silly enough to appreciate it. But this film KNOWS it's silly. That's what saves it. You don't need alcohol to get through it, but it could trigger a relapse. I'm so glad someone made this movie. We need more goof horror these days. This should be shown in prisons and homeless shelters. That's my wish. I'm serious. Being a film critic is so easy!

The best Nick Cage movie ever, despite the distrubing content.

I didn't see this in the theaters but I wish I had. I was relieved that the movie wasn't more graphic than it is, because the subject matter is pretty rough, but the cast is perfect. It's a gripping film that will definitely move you emotionally, especially in light of the fact that it reflects a grim reality. Definitely not light entertainment. This is heavy, but not in any exploitative way, and it's certainly not a mere action thriller.

The soundtrack greatly enhances the exotic atmosphere of the film's setting, instead of just a collection of strings and rock tunes. Whatever was left on the cutting room floor I don't think would have added to the film's impact.

Hellraiser: Deader (2005 Video)

Deader Should Have Been Killed Before Release
10 October 2022
Well...I blame these sequels on the Weinsteins almost entirely...made for market fluff. Hellraiser: Bloodline was probably the only installment that had anything unique to it, and let us not forget the overwhelming sins of Hellraiser 3: The Greatest Blunder Ever Told.

But I digress. A persistent formula has manifested again: Someone opens the box who doesn't realize what they've done and find out at the end he/she is in the Cenobite's realm and now it's their ass.

I'd really like these movies to stop. Let's have Pinhead's Corner: A segment hosted by Pinhead the film critic where upon completion of the review he tears the soul of the director apart...maybe the producer too. That would be a giggle.

Screamers: The Hunting (2009 Video)

This isn't a movie in real life, but it plays one on TV.

Y'know that feeling you get whenever you've mostly liked an original movie but knew where it messed up, then you catch yourself hoping the sequel will be better than the first film because they must've have learned what not to do?

But then the sequel is actually worse than the first because the new filmmaker learned nothing? Suddenly your bring home the corpse of a squirrel because it was looking at your gold? But you don't have any gold? And you're not prospecting?

It's probably just your mind protecting itself from more harm. Alcohol can help but you're just masking the movie. It's traumatic.

They put a moustache on the Mona Lisa

It's the same story as John Carpenter's version only there are a couple of woman and everyone is Swedish (I mean Norwegian!). There ain't nothing new here. In fact I'm trying to write the sequel to the The Thing (1982).

The Good Cast, Bad Story, Ugly Waste of Time

I watched this because I dig Robert Pattinson and plays Batman well enough but if you want to follow Batbrain in a sewer or running atop darkened streets for 3 hours waiting for The Crow to show up and say "Buddy I got this" then I do believe you will slink into the nearest closet watch Dark City on your phone instead. We don't need to see "Another Side of Bat Dylan" or "Gotham City Revisited". We need to see better versions of the classic villians that the other films eviscerated.

Fans of Ridley Scott will be pleased to see another period piece masterfully crafted and well cast. I would have preferred to have seen French actors playing French characters, however, the performances are very well indeed. The overall narrative structure is a bit demanding since it is divided among three points of view on the same event. Given a 2hr plus runtime, the repetitive presentation can be a bit wearing on the viewer, and it is more like a situation rather than a story.
