Cats (2019)
Just because they say it's bad - doesn't mean it is.
I really think that lots of people made up their mind about this film before they went to see it just based on memes and negativity, like they've seen this through a tainted veil.
The singing and dancing is all great and the cast put in a great performance. I especially love Mr Mistoffellees, Rum Tum Tugger, Monkustrap and Grizabella. The singing and the dancing is the main reason for enjoying a film like this.
There's so much out there saying the CGI is rubbish or creepy that I think it's clouded judgement. OK, not perfect, but really not that bad. I went with my 11 year old daughter and she loved it and loved how the cats look.
The story, or lack thereof, is the same as the very successful stage show so I'm glad they didn't change that and try to invent a story. That's just what the story is.
The only time I thought it looked it odd was when the scale felt occasionally wrong (like when they were walking along rail tracks - they looked more mouse size than cat size.)
Please go see this with an open mind, not a clouded one and just enjoy the show.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
I really enjoyed this!
This film was nowhere near as bad as everyone said it was going to be, so as an X-Men fan I was really relieved. Yes, the MCU has really changed the game in terms of Superhero movies but I didn't judge it next to that and just enjoyed it on it's own merits.
Magneto is great! Nightcrawler gets some proper Bamf moments! Cyclops is less annoying than usual! The section on the train (seen in the trailer) is brilliant! Overall, I enjoyed this more than Age of Apocalypse and so much more than Last Stand.
I would have loved more Quicksilver though and am a bit sad as this is the last time we'll see these guys as these characters. Time to see what the MCU has in store for them now.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Just so disappointed!
I expected so much from this film but just feel so disappointed by it. A poor and incoherent story with so many contradictions within it plus a total waste of my favourite character - amongst others (like Thanos himself). I did go and rewatch it in the cinema a second time and realised that, without all the excitement and expectation I went in with the first time I was just really really bored.
It did have some nice "moments", especially the anticipated big fight towards the end. Some characters get a good inning - love Antman and, of course, Iron Man but this is my least favourite MCU film.
And the ending...........sigh!
