Rabbit Hole (2023)
Is fantastic...
This series was fantastic. It is sad that the studios decided not to renew it for a second season.
The whole plot is brilliant and fantastic with a lot of conspiracy theories and using them in their favor as plot devices.
The characters are interesting. Weir (Sutherland) is complex (although sometimes his character is annoying) but the rest are really interesting and superb.
This show is quite strong in its core message but still manages to have clever lines and even some comedic relief delivered mainly by Ed Homm.
Overall I loved the series and really think that another season would have worked... that being said... the plot is good enough and clear enough as it is with little loose ends.
Castle: A Death in the Family (2009)
is a solid ending for S1
Through season 1 we got to know the characters and their stories and motivations.
Castle is a very enjoyable series that hopped on the "police consultants" train of the 2000s (Monk, Psych, Mentalist, Lie to Me, White Collar, Castle, etc, etc, etc). In this case a writer turned consultant in order to get "the insides" of NY finest.
I watched the series when it first aired and tried to finish it many times but have not been able. This time the goal is to actually finish it.
What i like? The characters and the plots.
This episode (a death in the family) is quite good and is a solid ending to season 1 by giving us more information into Becket´s mother case.
The whole Mafia plot was really good.
Unfrosted (2024)
is an american treasure...
This movie is an American treasure. It is quite interesting to understand how a movie like this managed to be made and receive the studio greenlight but thankfully it was made.
Seinfeld is an american treasure and this is his directorial debut and it was quite good.
The script is interesting and the characters are likeable. I loved Hugh Grant as a a mascot. That was just superb.
This movie is not for everyone. The younger audiences might not enjoy it or might miss many of the references and jokes but if you are over 40 you will definitely laugh and walk down memory lane.
I still wonder, however, the origins of the trend of not biopics but bio-food-pics (flamin´hot for example)
Bodkin (2024)
is pure Irish joy...
Bodkin is a series following a podcaster, a researcher and an investigative journalist trying to uncover thee truth about the disappearance of three people twenty years ago in Samhain festival.
The relationship between the unlikely group is quite interesting as they try to enter the lives of the people living in Bodkin, a small town located in rural Ireland.
The series deals with a lot of Irish lore and modern mythology (the nuns, the troubles, the war, the Good Friday Agreements, catholicism) but manages to do in a respectful way without entering too much into the typical stereotypes (i.e. I loved when Dove tried to sing Zombie by the cranberries yet was interrupted).
I don´t know if netlfix will renew for a second season but i certainly hope so for many plot lines were unsolved.
Nikki & Nora: Sister Sleuths (2022)
is predictable but enjoyable
Like many Hallmark movies, this movie is quite predictable however some plot twists were added and that was quite interesting.
The whole plot is a good idea and works and i really hope they make this a series for the titular characters are enjoyable, fun and witty.
Perhaps in this movie the writers could have developed the characters further and give them more meaning but still... it works.
Like all hallmark mysteries, this one works out just good enough but like i said at the beginning, it is predictable.
While researching a bit, i read online that perhaps some talks to make a sequel were in place but still... no official news from Hallmark...
Historia de un crimen: La búsqueda (2020)
is a good series about a controversial case
Back in 2010 many mexicans woke up with the news of that a little girl had disappeared from her home, she just vanished. I remember many of the details of the case and the series manages to reproduce many of them to the point. Also, they manage to introduce several of the theories around the case while being smart about not accusing directly any of the people around the case.
The fact that they changed names of key persons like the journalist Carolina who is actually Lilly Tellez, now a senator and leader of the opposition was a weir decision but i suppose it was done per request of the people whose identity was covered.
Overall, this series follows a complex and complicated case that to this day *2024* is still unsolved.
Many questions rise about the procedures and the level of involvement from local, federal and other political authorities.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch (2021)
is a series we needed...
After watching the final episode of S3 i can say that the bad batch is one of the best Star Wars content, ever. Period.
This series focuses on different clones than the ones we knew from the movies and that were briefly introduced in the clone wars.
Their group dynamic is perfect, the series does have its bits of humor and overall it brings us characters with heart.
Omega is incredible. She is the one that keeps the group together. Hunter is magnificent. Crosshair is perfect. Wrecker is adorable. Tech was an extraordinary character which i hated to see gone.
Bad Batch was a solid ending to the clone wars arc.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch: The Cavalry Has Arrived (2024)
Is an ending for S3 that delivered
Many viewers complained both here in IMDB and on X and other online forums that this season was slow paced and with many filler episodes. After watching the season and series finale, i think season 3 is the best one because it is the one that gave us a more mature Omega, hence that beautiful ending and also allowed us to get to know better out beloved characters once their whole group dynamics changed both with Tech dying and with crosshair crossing -no pun intended- them.
The finale was satisfying, with many characters achieving redemption and also with giving us the pleasure of watching Hemlock fall to his demise.
Thank you, Mr Filoni.
American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders (2024)
Is interesting but too complex...
This documentary is very interesting but in my personal opinion is way too complex for just 4 episodes.
I believe the information given to the viewer is way too dense to comprehend and absorb in 4 episodes and rather a 6-8 episodes series would have been better in order for all the facts to be better presented and also allow all the characters in the story to have enough time to be presented.
This case is very interesting and what i liked is that both the journalist and the director had a critical eye while also remaining objetive. They heard all versions but tried to form their own criteria instead of believing everything form everyone.
A must watch.
Ricky Stanicky (2024)
Is bad, cheesy but enjoyable...
This is not a pretentious movie. The comedy is simple (a bit vulgar) but works just enough. The acting is lousy (as expected by this performers: a former disney star, a former pro wrestler and two comedians).
The script is actually interesting in its concept but the execution was poor. The ending is very bad and rushed.
This movie is good for some fun a sunday night but nothing more. This is a forgettable product.
Amazon can do better and they should but kudos to them for giving me a good forgetable laugh for some good 2 hours of my sunday.
Do i recommend it? Depends... you have anything else to do then do it, if not... then by all means watch the movie.
Reina Roja (2024)
A great adaptation...
This series is a great adaptation of the book series by Gomez-Jurado. Reina Roja is one of the most important literary phenomenons in Europe of the last years and the series adaptation was very good.
The characters are well constructed and adapted. Both Antonio and Jon are well played and written.
The whole series is a good thriller that builds up to the whole saga plot of Mr. White vs Antonia Scott.
This is probably one of the most important spanish tv series of the last 40 years.
Amazon did a great job and having the writer both as an actor and an executive producer to the series was a perfect approach.
Damsel (2024)
Is a good effort but a terrible execution...
Damsel is an interesting plot with a terrible execution. The whole idea about a kingdom paying up an ancient debt and sacrificing princesses is interesting in itself but the execution for this movie was just terrible.
Bobby Brown is a very talented actress with a bright -bright- future ahead of her but for this movie she is a miscast. In my opinion her interpretation of the character just does not work.
The rest of the cast has maybe 5 minutes of screen time and everyone looks more concerned of their paycheck than their dialogues.
The VfX are in some cases really bad. This could have worked better as a graphic novel or maybe even a short videogame, not as a movie.
The Creator (2023)
is a must watch for the future of AI
Sci-Fi usually takes a lot to become a reality. Very few times a movie comes out and the topic it handles is inmediateley part of ethic, philosophical and legal questions.
The general topic of this movie is AI vs humans. 30 years ago this whole scenario seemed like a very distant future, yet with the rising of ChatGpt and other similar platforms, the reality this movie proposes might be closer than we think.
The concept, itself, is fascinating and is well written and crafted. The dialogues are sometimes slow and forced. The acting is decent, not the best of anyone but still works.
This movie is a must watch and i think it was underrated and will, eventually, become a classic.
Ferrari (2023)
is faster than you might think...
Ferrari is a movie that is well written and perfectly directed. The movie focuses on two stories: Enzo the family man and Enzo the car maker.
The family man parts are done both in terms of lighting, color and cinematography slow paced, natural and familiar while the car maker parts are fast, erratic, passionate...
Michael Mann managed to capture one of the most important moments in car history and give it its correct proportions and with great respect to many italian heroes and culture.
Driver is amazing. He is one of the greatest of his generation. Cruz -as always- is magnificent.
Ferrari is a good movie that will be enjoyed by car lovers in general.
La sociedad de la nieve (2023)
Is a story on human spirit!
"La Sociedad de la Nieve" is a story about character, strength, tests and endurance. Each of the survivors had to endure horrible moments and make hard choices in order to survive. Each of them were aware that at any moment they could perish yet maintained their faith and their spirit both in their friends and an eventual rescue.
The movie is hard, raw and realistic. It shows all the best of the human spirit but also shows the despair, the anguish and the pain of trying to survive but also deals with survivors guilt.
Bayona is from Spain yet managed to understand what this event meant for Uruguayans.
A must see and a worthy Oscar nominee.
Suits (2011)
Suits is... almost perfect
Suits began as a show about Mike Ross and his dynamic with Haver Specter as a hotshot lawyer and this brilliant kid.
The show had the characters growing and surprising us.
Every season had intense problems for our characters and the way they solved them staying in the grey lines was just perfect.
Harvey: A perfect character. He represents what a corporate lawyer should be. You want him on your side.
Mike: The good kid. He has done bad things yet he fights daily to be on the good side.
Rachel: A strong character that faces her own past and ordeals to become a big strong woman.
Jessica: A great female lead. Strong, leading, smart, powerful yet kind.
Louis: Began as a pain but ended as a strong leader.
Donna: The one that kept it together.
And as Coldplay sings in the last song of the show:
I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
Now the old king is dead, long live the king.
Suits: One Last Con (2019)
Seas would rise when I gave the word...
Wow... what an ending both for the season ant the series...
Regarding season 9:
We had our beloved characters face their biggest challenges yet. With an imposed leader trying to impose her views and opinions on the firm, the partners must rally and have each others back.
Personal relationships are at their highest peak with Harvey and Donna finally being involved, Louis about to have a baby and the rest of our heroes getting along with each other.
The ending is satisfying seasonwise with Faye finally leaving and letting the firm be.
Having Mike back for the ending was perfect.
Regarding Suits:
One of the best legal dramas ever... no other words can define it. Corporate law is boring yet the writers managed to make it fascinating.
The way Harvey walked the last steps with Viva la Vida playing was perfect.
Suits: Harvey (2019)
Good season ending
Season 8 is a really interesting one because of all the plot changes they had to make because of Mike and Rachel leaving the show. New characters had to be introduced while old dynamics had to be maintained and the writers managed balance and harmony through this season.
Having Zane leaving as a hero was nice and Louis as managing partner is the strongest he has ever been. Harvey had been lost through this season but in the end he finally found himself and managed to acknowledge his feelings and that last scene with Donna was something I believe almost every fan had been waiting for.
Season 9 while finally cross all the Ts and dot the Is.
The Greatest Night in Pop (2024)
Part of history of pop and the world
This documentary gives us a glimpse into the whole process of making We are the world. Gathering all those talents and making it work was sure a feat in itself but the whole song and its cultural and social significance is perhaps one of the greatest examples of how music and art brings us together.
The documentary itself is a bit slow paced but it is meant to be. We are lucky enough to still have many of the original members telling their side of the story and that makes this documentary valuable.
We are the world is still an impressive song even after all those years and it still brings unity so watching the documentary is a must.
Suits: Good-Bye (2018)
Rushed departure
This season was a bit bland in the overall plots and twists. Having Harvey getting his act together only for Donna to ruin it for him was a weird situation and the whole Louis Sheila thing was awkward.
We all know why Rachel had to leave but i believe things were way too rushed and they could have recorded in advance many things so that her exit was more "dignified".
The whole Jessica subplot was awful and i believe the writers destroyed the character completely and probably that is why her spin-off failed.
Suits began as a series following Mike and then Havery kinda took over but i don´t Suits could have existed without the Mike character.
Suits: Character and Fitness (2017)
Solid ending
This season was perhaps the best of the series because it showed us Mike dealing with life in prison and then coming out of it only to find that things have actually changed, then we had Jessica leaving the firm basically for good and Harvey and Louis getting to be friends and partners in a good way.
The second half of the season showed us how Mike tried to be a legit lawyer and even though it implied certain shady things, he finally got it thanks to the usual Mike & Harvey shenanigans.
In my opinion, the series should have ended here but anyways... good ending to a great season and solid plot lines.
Priscilla (2023)
Is breathtaking
What a well crafted movie. Coppola is perhaps the best female director (out there with Varda) and she was able to portray the relationship dynamic between Elvis and Priscilla in a masterful way both in the script as well as in the directing.
The film tells the story that many of us wanted to see and hear for many years and Coppola nailed it.
The acting is superb both by Spaeny and Elordi who manage to give life to the characters and make them their own.
To me, the only negative aspect is the fact that no actual Elvis records were used and I think they should have fought harder to get them. F.
Suits: 25th Hour (2016)
One of the best episodes in Suits
Season 5 finale is just amazing. A very strong ending to a very complex season. The season had many interesting plots like the takeover attempt yet again by recurring antagonist Hardman but also the whole Mike getting exposed and having his trial.
The ending was for sure not the expect outcome but it gives the showrunners more freedom to develop the characters with Mike in prison and to see how he will eventually get out and the impact it will have both in his work and personal life.
The whole Mike getting exposed was eventually going to happen and it was managed in a very good way now they hace to manage him getting out in a clever way as well.
Suits: Not Just a Pretty Face (2015)
Solid ending for a not so good season
Suits began strong and solid and some seasons were better than others, IMO season 4 was a bit weak and explored too many things way too fast and solved itself in almost a ridiculous manner.
Eric Roberts was a solid villain and the whole new dynamic with Louis was interesting to explore as well as Harvey and Donna being in troubles.
Mike and Rachel seem to have grown a lot and Jessica seems more a leader than ever.
This season was the weakest of the series so far but final two episodes are good and bring the season to a good rating overall.
The main issue to me was that the arc felt way too long.
Candy Cane Lane (2023)
Not quite there...
This movie had a good premise overall and quite true to Christmas itself however i think some elements were missing and some others were largely exagerated.
What i liked? The message overall about family being more important than anything else.
What i disliked? The journalists characters were weird and out of place; 2) The movie is way too long, it could have been way shorter (40 minutes shorter); 3) The whole plot seems to shift from one direction into another out of clear reason; 4) The VfX are terrible and very bad. No budget? Try for less complicated stuff.
Overall it is enjoyable but forgetable.
