Bigfoot Family (2020)
Political propaganda I wouldn't let me kids see it
Propaganda that tries to shove an ideology down your throat while attempting to be entertaining. How was it? Not one you allow little minds to watch these decisions shouldn't be made until they are adults. Staying away from facts it introduces a story that's untrue giving children the idea bombs are used in fracking. Way out of this world untrue a d it's all about perception. Enough to make me puke. Animation was good, but the movie certainly wasn't entertaining. If they left out the anti-oil propaganda it may have been a fine film.
Us (2019)
It could've been a 9 star but don't let it stop you from buying a ticket
Could've been 9 stars but it has some issues. Ultimately the movie has issues with the narrative that don't add up. The basic story line works but important components are missing a few pieces and it really struggles fitting certain scenes and story lines into place. Some of which is predictable but then this is a horror/thriller movie (touch of comedy) so what would you expect? Avoiding spoilers I won't get into details to why I gave it 4 stars so you will have to buy a ticket and go see for yourself then come to your own conclusion. For the simple numb minded individual who just wants to be entertained and stuck to the edge of your seat at times you will probably find it 8-9 stars.
The OA (2016)
Absolutions Stunning, Brit Marling isn't genius.
Absolutely Amazing this show takes an incredible amount of intelligence and is mind bending intriguing. Brit marling is genius. The shows writing is tight and on par. Season 2 finale is incredible. It all is well explained and pulling together as each episode moves along. I'd be more than happy to explain to anyone confused here however it may be this is just not for you if you are not grasping its concepts. The shows inter dimensional complexities and emotional challenges are intertwined in a way you can't miss even a half an episode or you may miss relevant components that prevent you from illustrating what the writers intended. I watched season 1 twice. First time was two years ago and then I watched it again prior to watching season two in a full straight on binge and I couldn't hardly stop for a bathroom break. The cast is well chosen and the realization that the travelers are engulfed into a much bigger than themselves interstellar spiritual multi dimensionally layered universe that may itself be engrained within the heavens themselves. Where the next 3 seasons take us I can only imagine and I am excited for more genius entertainment.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Not my favorite and in long/short here is why...
Caution Some Spoilers:
First of all there is much controversy over this movie and setting that aside I want to clarify a few things. I probably would've rated this lower for various reasons but I want to try and be as fair as I can despite the movies drawbacks. Captain Marvel (CM) is a movie with a political agenda promoting the SJW (social justice warrior). I'm not a fan of Hollywood, Disney, or any other Film maker using entertainment as a source of either subliminally or guilting the viewer to grasping hold of a agenda while losing hold of the entertainment value. I won't elaborate much here you can view the movie and decide yourself. This has ultimately turned me off and came as an unexpected outcome upon visiting AMC to view the movie in the IMAX theater. Over 200 seats and only 10 of us in the theater made for an underwhelming outcome. The movie starts off dedicating itself to Stan Lee who in turn hadn't any real involvement beyond cameos in the MCU franchise. Brie Larson was very bland and much like a runway gal with little attitude and charisma. The movie as an origin story seemed to pick too much in too little time. What could've been great was cut short of its greatness. The fact is the origin felt rushed through the scenes and gravitated to what felt like instantaneous superhero abilities. For example as she falls from the sky she suddenly learns to fly instantly without difficulty. Remember Superman? It took him days to figure it out crashing in The corn fields. They portray her as this lady who is genius in gaining all these abilities instantly without learning and expertly without practice and this is hard to swallow. She didn't learn? She wasn't taught? There are other issues where the Skrulls are friendly when they're a known enemy in the comics. So friendly they are almost pussycats and seem to be pathetic in a number of ways. The kree come off as the major villains here with Jude Law leading them and they bring in a cat from who knows where that is a flirken or alien monster that looks like a cat named Goose. This cat scratches our nick Fury's eye. The cat also eats 5 white men at once protecting CM and on command of Fury. The cat was the first time I laughed and really felt entertained. During the rest of the movie I was laid back, had no issues getting up to use the restroom as I didn't fear missing any parts it just felt fast action and bland. The should've stretched it out to 2.5 hours, added a few more scenes, and maybe considered an actress who had the superhero feel we aspire too. When I watch these marvel movies it's because I want that feeling like someone is out there saving the world/universe, doing good, etc... this was a CM journey of her own. It wasn't to save the world, it wasn't to save anyone for that matter she was merely looking out for herself and if you happened along and she was there you probably got saved by default. It was really an odd portrayal of a superhero I never anticipated being confronted with. I think the bottom line the movie was about this female SJW who had an underlying political agenda (plug) immigration, etc.., to fulfill a present political view by Hollywood/Disney against Trump (our government) and used what could've been a great movie for a political message to the viewers killing the entertainment value it otherwise would've had. Sadly they messed it up and if Disney plans to continue this route I will plan to discontinue seating myself in front of their films. Go watch it and see for yourself and truly sit back and take a fresh look at it and don't get sucked into the action. Pay attention to what's happening.
Gotti: Godfather and Son (2018)
Gotti the truth you never knew
This is a very interesting series. Gotti was beloved by many people and did what appeared to be a lot of good for his community. Whether a front for his other life or in general how he lived is yet to be known many may have opinions either way. My take from this series is that Gotti had a way he viewed society should be led and that government had no business in his business and as a result made him an outlaw for living how he wanted. While living rather modestly despite his riches he never over exemplified his lifestyle with his family but he did glorify the mob boss lifestyle and the fact for many he was untouchable until his fateful mistake and trust in what would be the Judas betrayal. Had Gotti lived by his decree to absolute he may have had many more years outside of prison and many more body bags would've been filled. He was not the man to go head to head with and being the boss was his ultimate travesty. His son so desperately wanting to fill his fathers shoes had quickly been frightened away from the lifestyle once his toes were wet. The reality of cement shoes and deep lake waters many of Gotti's fellow men had simply disappeared. John Jr. tells his story growing up the son, the Jr., the eventual temporary boss himself realizing his time must end he headed clean to a new life where his family was more important than the power and money he could obtain living the lifestyle of America's most ruthless mob family. A must see if you want to learn some history and find this sort of thing fascinating.
Storm: Letters van Vuur (2017)
Fun, thrilling, adventuresome
A great foreign flick. I have been finding myself watching more and more recently and this one captures the late 1500's very well. Bringing you in a time where printing was extremely labor intensive and the church was burning books mandating what was allowed. A young boy Storm takes on the church after his father is caught red handed printing a writing by Martin luther an advocate against the church. His letters were so influential the church did everything they could to stop them and punish those involved. Will Storm save his father from being burned at the stake? Watch this action packed movie that twists a little love story and enjoy an evening with the forbidden writings.
