The Idea of You, focusing on a love story between the single mother and the band’s frontman, has blown up Prime Video’s Top 10. Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine’s hit film dominates the chart for a whole month, and here’s why.
This top-tier romcom explores the possibility of romance between people with significant age differences. Of course, such a leitmotif is nothing new in cinema, as we saw Carol (2015), Licorice Pizza (2021) and May December (2023). However, the most cultish film following the same topic was released long before The Idea of You, in 1967.
Its plot revolves around Benjamin Braddock, a 21-year-old college graduate with no plans for the future. Ended up doing nothing at his parents' house, he gets unexpectedly seduced by an older woman, Mrs. Robinson, who is tired of her household and marriage.
Soon enough Benjamin falls for another woman, who turns out to be his lover’s daughter,...

London- and Paris-based production, finance and sales outfit Film Constellation has boarded international sales on Titus Kaphar’s drama “Exhibiting Forgiveness.”
The film received strong reviews after its January premiere at Sundance in the U.S. Dramatic Competition section, and was picked up for North American distribution by Roadside Attractions, with plans for a wide theatrical release in the fall and awards campaign.
Film Constellation will screen the film for buyers in Cannes.
In the film, an artist finds his path to success derailed by an unexpected visit from his estranged father, a troubled man desperate to reconcile. Together, they learn that forgetting may be harder than forgiving.
The directorial debut of visual artist Kaphar, “Exhibiting Forgiveness” stars André Holland, Andra Day, John Earl Jelks and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor.
Variety’s Owen Gleiberman gave the film a positive review, describing it as “a forceful drama free of feel-good fakery” and praising Holland’s performance as “fierce,...

When a friend calls, Dave Grohl answers. And when that particular friend is Josh Homme, calling to ask him to make an appearance at the Josh Homme & Friends benefit concert, the Foo Fighters frontman jumped straight into rehearsal mode. Grohl’s process started with pulling up the lyrics to Doja Cat’s rebellious single “Paint the Town Red” and concluded with him penning a completely new song specifically for Homme.

In a keynote conversation Tuesday at Copenhagen’s leading international documentary festival Cph:dox, Academy Award winning filmmaker and producer Alex Gibney talked honestly about the winding road of making it in the documentary world, the creative process, and the lessons of life, partly learned from singer-songwriter Paul Simon.
The inspirational talk at the baroque Kunsthal Charlottenborg exhibition space, with moderator Thom Powers, Toronto Film Festival programmer, was a prelude to the festival’s screening of Gibney’s two-part doc “In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon,” which debuted on MGM+ March 17.
“What I learned from Paul was that when he wrote ‘The Sound of Silence,’ he sat alone and words came to him; creativity started to flow, and just like Bob Dylan with ‘Mr. Tambourine Man,’ [the song] suddenly fit and he felt like a conduit.”
Gibney said letting free associations take over, having an unguarded curiosity and generosity were some...

In January 2019, Paul Simon awoke from a dream. Some voice in his head had informed him, deep within his Rem cycle, that he was going to work on a project called “Seven Psalms.” The singer-songwriter behind “The Sound of Silence,” “A Bridge Over Troubled Waters,” “Love Me Like a Rock,” and several dozen other songs that have likely been part of the soundtrack of your life, willingly or unwillingly, had effectively been retired for several years. Music-wise, he had nothing on deck except for this lovely little riff he’d...

Disturbed and Heart singer Ann Wilson collaborated on “Don’t Tell Me” on the former’s 2022 studio album, Divisive. Now, with the tune climbing into the Top 15 at rock radio, a music video has been released for the track.
Disturbed frontman David Draiman said in a statement, “I have tremendous respect for Ann. In my humble opinion, she’s the greatest female rock voice of all time. I think she’s untouchable. I feel like we were very gifted to have her be a part of this.”
Wilson added, “I was honored when I got the call from David Draiman. Disturbed did a version of [Simon & Garfunkel’s] ‘The Sound of Silence’ that my husband and I both really dug. And so, when the opportunity came to sing a duet with him on a song that meant so much to David emotionally, I jumped at the chance. And then the video turned out great,...

One of the country’s most prolific musicians, Paul Simon was born on October 13, 1941, in Newark, New Jersey, and grew up in Queens, New York City. His love for music and gift for songwriting began at a young age, and he has enjoyed a varied career for over six decades.
Simon’s first successes came as one-half of a duo formed with his childhood friend, Art Garfunkel. Their debut album in 1964, “Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.,” flopped. However, the counterculture movement of the 1960s was just beginning, and before long, the duo’s folk/rock blend would become the anthem for that generation, and “The Sound of Silence” became their first hit.
Fueled by Simon’s masterful storytelling, their unique sound and contributions to the 1967 film “The Graduate,” Simon and Garfunkel became two of the most successful and notable musicians of the time. In 1970, the two released their fifth and final studio album,...

Now, the honor of hosting the American debut goes to the Hamptons International Film Festival this Friday, where the documentary screens as the festival Centerpiece (Simon will appear in person there for a conversation moderated by Rolling Stone’s David Fear). All roads lead to Rome — and all classic rock roads lead to The Beatles. Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” has a major connection to a song from The Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour. One of the songs blew the other out of the water commercially, no pun intended.
Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ connects to The Beatles’ ‘Blue Jay Way’
During a 1972 interview with Rolling Stone, Simon discussed the origin of “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” “Me and Artie [Garfunkel] and [Simon’s wife] Peggy [Harper] were living in this house with a bunch of other people throughout the summer,” he said. “It was a house on Blue Jay Way, the one George Harrison wrote ‘Blue Jay Way’ about.” The two tracks are a study in contrast, as “Blue Jay Way” is a sleepy psychedelic tune, while “Bridge Over Troubled Water” is a forceful power ballad.

Paul Simon wanted a documentary. He was a fan of Alex Gibney’s 2015 “Sinatra: All or Nothing at All” and asked the Oscar-winner (“Taxi to the Dark Side”) to consider devoting a documentary to him on the occasion of recording his 15th album, “Seven Psalms”.
The result is “In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon,” which had its world premiere as an all-rights sales title at the Toronto International Film Festival. It has a running time of three and a half hours. However, the capacity audience at the Princess of Wales theater didn’t fidget and gave Simon a rousing standing ovation. On stage, he admitted that he didn’t have the courage to watch the film in the theater, and asked if he got a standing ovation. The crowd jumped up for a second time. “And it’s my birthday,” he joked. (It’s actually October 13.)

It’s been a Toronto Film Festival like few others. The writers and actors strikes meant that many A-listers opted not to touch down in Canada this year, depriving the gathering of film lovers of the star-studded red carpets and Q&As that make Toronto so memorable. Even if this year’s festival was starved for glamour, it was still a good opportunity to get a clearer picture of the awards race — and to check the pulse of Hollywood at a tumultuous time for the industry.

“People used to say I had my finger on the pulse,” Paul Simon tells Alex Gibney early in his artfully composed documentary, In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon. “I just have my finger out there and the pulse is running under it.” Either way, few people have had as central a role in American pop music and culture as Simon. Gibney, best-known for exposes including The Inventor, about Elizabeth Holmes’ tech-company fraud, and Going Clear, on Scientology, turns out to be the ideal director to explore Simon’s long, varied run.
Simon invited Gibney into his home studio in Wimberly, Texas, where the cameras watch him tinker with the sound on his latest album, Seven Psalms (released in May) and talk about his career, inspirations, aging and what the loss of hearing in his left ear has meant. The mockbuster industry is a fascinating entity. Chief among the studios that specialize in mockbusters (ie. low-budget knockoffs of popular studio titles) is The Asylum, the company behind the "Sharkando" films. In 2023 alone, The Asylum has released a riff on "Cocaine Bear" titled "Attack of the Meth Gator," the latest installment in its "Transformers" ripoff franchise, "Transmorphers: Mech Beasts," and its own animated version of "The Little Mermaid" featuring the voices of Steve Guttenberg and "E.T." star Dee Wallace. And they say cinema is dead!

Bob Dylan is a phenomenal songwriter who doesn’t need much help from other artists to write great music. He did collaborate with other artists, such as George Harrison and Tom Petty, but he has had a fantastic career as a solo singer. One artist who rose to fame around the same time as him was Paul Simon, who did write a song for Bob Dylan, but the folk-rock singer turned it down.

London and Paris-based production, finance and sales company Film Constellation, which is handling international sales, has posted a first image ahead of unveiling a trailer in a pre-official Marché du Film kick-off screening on Monday.
In a world where the inconvenience of human emotion has been eradicated by a government-imposed daily vitamin, Powley and Robinson play a couple who skip their daily dose.
They discover love, joy and sex for the first time, but quickly come to realize they must also handle the emotional baggage that comes with it.
Justin H.Min, Emmy nominee D’Arcy Carden, Nesta Cooper and Griffin Newman (The Tick) round out the cast.
Turn Me On is the second collaboration between director Michael Tyburski and Film Constellation following his Sundance hit The Sound Of Silence, starring Peter Sarsgaard and Rashida Jones.
UTA and CAA Media Finance co-rep North America.
Turn Me On is produced by Zareh Nalbandian, Toby Nalbandian and Gregory Schmidt of Truant Pictures, a division of Animal Logic Entertainment (Peter Rabbit 1&2), and producer Sean Bradley (Paddleton). The script is written by Angela Bourassa who is also serving as executive producer.
Powley is represented by UTA, Curtis Brown and Jackoway Austen.

We here at /Film love a well-placed needle drop. Whether it's the inclusion of Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence" in "The Graduate" to emphasize the complicated future of the two leads or Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" in "Wayne's World" that inspired audiences everywhere to headbang in their cars, there's an art to the (often very expensive) cinematic needle drop. A song choice can truly make or break the effectiveness of a scene and when done properly, the collaboration between song and screen can become synonymous. "Top Gun" and the Kenny Loggin' song "Danger Zone" now go hand-in-hand with one another, and you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who hears the tin whistle opening of "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion and not immediately think about Jack and Rose in "Titanic."

Earlier this week, Gold Derby conducted a poll asking viewers of “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” to name which of the 11 finalists they’re rooting for to win, and the results are not even close. In fact, an overwhelming 44 of respondents voted for Kodi Lee, the inspirational singer who was born blind and autistic, as their favorite. He recently sang “Biblical” on the big stage (watch above), and then told the “AGT” superfans, “Help me change the world.” Now it seems like a realistic possibility the fans will come through for him.
Kodi originally competed on Season 14 of the American version of the “Got Talent” franchise. His song list that year included “A Song For You,” “Bridge over Troubled Water,” “You Are the Reason” and “Lost Without You.” He’s one of just four “AGT” winners to return for “All-Stars,” but the other three were eliminated in the preliminary rounds: ventriloquist Terry Fator,...

Sad Affleck strikes again! Accompanying his wife Jennifer Lopez at the 2023 Grammys, viewers picked up on Ben Affleck looking particularly “miserable” during the ceremony, especially as he remained expressionless as J. Lo rocked out to the tribute performance to Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy by Robinson, Stevie Wonder and Chris Stapleton.
“However bad of a day you’re having, I promise you’re not as miserable as Ben Affleck at the Grammys right now,” one viewer noted, while another pointed out, “Someone get Ben Affleck some serotonin.”
“Ben Affleck” quickly became a trending topic on Twitter during the Grammys telecast.
Likening his somber appearance to the iconic meme of the “Gone Girl” actor looking exasperated as he takes a smoke break, another Twitter user suggested “someone get Ben Affleck a cigarette and a dunkin coffee stat.”

Picture a suburban neighborhood that mostly immigrant families and pensioners call home, hidden under a wide avenue and wedged on the edge of a forest and a river. Or as Swiss director Tizian Büchi puts it: “A hole where no one ever goes, unless they live there.” This is the setting of his first feature film, “Like an Island,” selected in the international competition at Visions du Réel, in Nyon, Switzerland.
Now picture two guards, Daniel and his younger colleague Ammar, patrolling the area night and day to make sure no one goes anywhere near the river. Why? Ammar would love to know. Daniel, who fulfills his mysterious mission with zeal, seems to have answers. As the watchmen make their pointless rounds and develop a friendship, the residents share their own views on what may have happened on the banks of the river.

Samantha Maloney’s story begins where most sexual harassment claims in the music industry end: with a non-disclosure agreement. It was February 2018 when Maloney signed the document that would perpetually silence her regarding speaking out about a sexual harassment incident she allegedly experienced while working at Warner Music Group’s flagship record label Warner Records.
Maloney, a former vice president of A&r at the label, was let go from the company in late September 2017 as part of a company restructuring. She signed a separation agreement and was paid severance.

Denzel Washington’s directorial career includes Oscar winner “Fences” and box office hits like “Antwone Fisher.” Some fans might not realize that it also includes a 2016 episode of the ABC medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” which remains the only television Washington has directed in his career. Washington directed the 12th season episode “The Sound of Silence.” On her podcast, “Tell Me with Ellen Pompeo,” the “Grey’s” lead actress was joined by former co-star Patrick Dempsey and revealed a fight occurred on set between Washington and herself after she went off-script in a scene.
“I was like, ‘Look at me when you apologize. Look at me.’ And that wasn’t in the dialogue,” Pompeo told Dempsey. “And Denzel went ham on my ass. He was like, ‘I’m the director. Don’t you tell him what to do. I was like, ‘Listen, motherfucker, this is my show. This is my set.
