Lily Tomlin Weighs In On Jennifer Aniston’ 9 To 5′ Remake ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Lily Tomlin, one of three stars in the iconic 1980 movie 9 to 5, recently told People magazine that she felt “rejected” after the announcement of Jennnifer Aniston’s remake. The film, which starred Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin and featured the iconic Dolly Parton theme song, was a comedy masterclass about the corporate world riddled with sexism.
Earlier this year, Jennifer Aniston’s production banner Echo Films announced that a reboot is in the works at 20th Century Studios. In a recent interview with People, Lily Tomlin spoke about the sequel written by Oscar-winner Cody Diablo.
While Lily Tomlin wished Aniston the best with the reboot, the Grace and Frankie star also noted that she felt ‘rejected” by the announcement.

Lily Tomlin knows the challenges of a 9 to 5 sequel, which is why she feels Jennifer Aniston’s reimagining of the iconic 1980 film is going to be “tough to make.”
The actress, who starred alongside Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda in the original movie, recently opened up to People magazine about their attempt to write a follow-up to the beloved film in 2018.
“We had one official crack at the script,” Tomlin recalled. “The draft just didn’t work for us. We couldn’t really see the work world today [in the pages]. People work from home. They take gig work. They don’t even know their boss. They’re at home!”
Though all three women were going to reprise their roles for the sequel, Parton later told Entertainment Tonight that they had ultimately “dropped that whole idea.”
“I don’t think we’re going to do the sequel,” the “Jolene” singer said at the time.

It seems that Road House was – in every sense – a hit. Not only did it feature a lot of people getting, well, hit, but it received solid reviews, as well as drawing in millions of viewers on Prime Video. Plenty of reason, then, for Amazon to double down and demand a return trip to the Road House. Yes, a sequel is on the way, with Jake Gyllenhaal back on board for more brawls, booze, brooding, and bro-tactic bodaciousness.
The news was confirmed on social media, teasing few details, but noting that Gyllenhaal will be back in the role of Elwood Dalton – the no-nonsense bouncer who, with his Mma background, makes short work of any rabble-rousers at the ludicrously idyllic bar run by Jessica Williams’ Frankie. It remains to be seen if Conor McGregor’s swaggering troublemaker Knox will be back, after – Spoiler Warning – the first film’s mid-credits sequence made...

Last month, it was announced that writer/producer Judalina Neira is developing a TV series reimagining of the classic sitcom Bewitched for Sony Pictures Television, aiming to turn it into an “irreverent hourlong” show. NBC clearly likes the idea of reviving Bewitched, because now Deadline has broken the news that the network has their own “Bewitched-inspired” show called Something Wicked in the works, and this one already has a star attached: June Diane Raphael, who may be best known for playing the character Brianna Hanson for the 94 episodes that make up the Netflix series Grace and Frankie, which ran for seven seasons.

Exclusive: NBC is developing Something Wicked, a multi-camera comedy starring June Diane Raphael and written and executive produced by Raphael and Dickinson creator Alena Smith.
Something Wicked is described as a comedy with a Bewitched-type premise and an homage to TV sitcom classics. It examines the condition of modern adult womanhood and how even with witchcraft, balancing everything is impossible.
Smith and Raphael write and executive produce. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
This is the latest high-profile multi-camera comedy project at NBC. The network, which has pivoted toward an all-multi-camera comedy slate over the last year and a half, also has a sitcom pilot headlined by Reba McEntire.
Bewitched, which originally aired on ABC from 1964-72, starred Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha Stevens, a witch who marries an ordinary mortal man, played by Dick York and later Dick Sargent, and vows to lead the life of a typical suburban housewife.

This deeply personal portrait of newfound love and a traumatic past, starring Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal, is an emotionally wrenching masterpiece
There’s a half smile that flickers over the face of Andrew Scott, an involuntary wince of a thing, with lips clamped shut and those dark, dark eyes glittering with unshed tears. It’s technically a smile, but I can’t recall seeing anyone look sadder. The actor has a rare gift for peeling back the skin of a character with a single glance, drawing us into decades of kaleidoscoping pain and loss. It’s a gift that has rarely been put to better use than in Andrew Haigh’s gorgeous, shattering and deeply personal fifth feature film, All of Us Strangers.

Rob49 is only 24-years-old, but he’s mastered the art of surprise like a grizzled rap vet. The New Orleans rapper had his “Wassam Baby” single leak months ago, and he made the most of a tenuous situation by officially releasing it with Lil Wayne by his side. The two took turns flirting and asserting their dominance over Macfly Beatz production, making for a fun cross-generational Louisiana link-up. The two connected during a Frankie of Freewater-directed video with clips of cars, women, and choice shots of Rob’s beaming grill.

From “Cheers” to “Frasier,” Kelsey Grammer’s Frasier Crane was a mainstay of comedy TV for 20 years, from the ’80s to the early-aughts. Now, after an equal amount of time off the air, Grammer is back in the role for Paramount+’s “Frasier.”
The streaming series is a revival-meets-reboot that once again spins off Grammer’s character with a new cast of colorful characters. Some original “Frasier” stars will return to guest star. However, David Hyde Pierce won’t return as Niles and John Mahoney, who played their father Martin, passed away in 2018.
That means Frasier – along with “Frasier” fans – will be surrounded by new faces. With that in mind, here’s a handy guide to the new “Frasier” cast and characters, including where you might have the actors before.

Film and TV crew members and support staff have been hit hard by the double Hollywood strikes. The latest relief effort, announced last month, comes from Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman, Paul McCrane and Paul Scheer, who are spearheading a live fundraising event in partnership with The Union Solidarity Coalition.
Titled Give Back-ular Spectacular!, the two-hour variety show at The Orpheum Theatre, which will be live-streamed, will showcase about 30 performers, including Jeremy Allen White, Halle Berry, Bryan Cranston, Lily Tomlin, Lil Dicky, LeVar Burton, Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt. The Oscars are still five months away, but there’s one winner prediction that you can take to the bank. The category of Best Costume Design will be won by a period drama or a fantasy film. In the past 45 years, only one contemporary-set movie has scored the costume prize, with only about one contemporary nominee per decade.
While dressing up monarchs and showgirls and superheroes is a craft that deserves praise, the period/fantasy monopoly also highlights work outside of that mold. And there’s no better recent example of imagination in modern dress than “Passages,” the great drama from director Ira Sachs (“Love Is Strange”), elevated with idiosyncratic, seductive costumes design by Khadija Zeggaï.
Set among the bourgeoisie in modern day Paris, “Passages” focuses on German filmmaker Tomas (Franz Rogowski), who is married to artist Martin (Ben Whishaw) but falls in love with schoolteacher Agathe (Adele Excharpoulous).

God bless British Andrew Haigh, whose best films — “Weekend,” “45 Years,” and now the quietly shattering “All of Us Strangers” — are the rare work of a modern director who knows how to get out of their own way. Haigh’s simple but penetrating dramas couldn’t be more specific in how they depict the strangeness of intimacy and the intimacy of strangeness, and yet they’re also palpably unfilled in a way, like a half-empty room that someone you were looking for just left. In that light, it should come as little surprise that Haigh is so well-suited to an ineffably personal ghost story about the absences that can shape our entire lives if we let them.

June Diane Raphael and Jessica St. Clair launched their podcast, The Deep Dive, in the midst of the pandemic as a way to compensate for the loneliness and disconnect of lockdown.
Each week, the two longtime friends and creative collaborators discuss their pursuit of joy amid a bevy of challenges both relatable (motherhood, aging) and aspirational (finding the correct poolside attire for Miami Beach Pride). Doing the podcast helped lift the actresses out of their own post-lockdown voids, and their motto — “Let Us Live!” — echoes through Apple reviews posted by their ever-expanding listening community.
When the abrupt work stoppage of this summer’s double strike threatened to trigger a similar existential crisis, they were ready with an antidote: They launched the Deep Dive Academy of Significance.
“We started a virtual school, and that is one of the most insane things I think I have ever said,” St. Clair says with a laugh.

Passages opens with one of its leads Tomas (Franz Rogowski) immersed in setting a scene for his latest film. With the director making subtle adjustments to truly capture the intended experience only to grow quickly frustrated with his cast’s inability to give him what he wants. Increasingly micromanaging the staging until his emotions taint the proceedings.
It’s a scene that neatly encapsulates the drama that is about to unfold. As one-half of a stable, if tepid, partnership with husband Martin (Ben Whishaw), Tomas has found himself trapped in personal and professional mundanity. A chance encounter with schoolteacher Agathe (Adele Exarcholopoulos) gives him a taste of the raw, amorphous excitement he has been seeking, but has no idea how to wrestle with it. The tensions between him and Martin exacerbate and an unsustainable affair with Agathe deepens.

It’s a film about desire and our inability to quantify what we want from its fulfilment.

The icons have arrived on the SAG-AFTRA picket lines.
On day five of the actors strike, award-winning actresses Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin attended the strike at Netflix. Last month, Fonda and Tomlin also appeared on the picket lines in support of the Writers Guild of America.
As an industry veteran who has worked with many of the top industry execs through her career (and was once married to media mogul Ted Turner), Fonda implored the studio heads to see reason. “I think that they need to listen to us,” the 80 for Brady star told The Hollywood Reporter. “They have to agree to come back to the negotiating table and be reasonable, because what we’re asking for is reasonable. Their refusal to negotiate these things is really bad.”
Frequent collaborators and longtime friends, Fonda and Tomlin drew a crowd as they walked up and down Sunset Boulevard with their fellow union members.

Ted Sarandos wants striking writers and actors to know he is a union man through and through, and he feels their pain – even as Netflix and other studios and streamers have no plans to restart talks with either the WGA or SAG-AFTRA anytime soon.
“I was raised in a union household,” the Netflix co-ceo declared at the top of the streamer’s latest earnings call this afternoon.
“My dad was a member of Ibew Local 640, he was a union electrician,” the Phoenix, Arizona-born Sarandos said. “And I remember his local because that union was very much a part of our lives when I was growing up. And I also remember on more than one occasion, my Dad being out on strike. And I remember that because it takes an enormous toll on your family, financially and emotionally.”
Brandishing his working class credentials may be prove a hard sell for even the ABC Sarandos,...

When I was a little kid in the 1960s and a teen in the 1970s, there was simply no one cooler than Mel Brooks. He was the guy (along with Buck Henry) who created and wrote the comedy masterpiece “Get Smart,” and even as a child I could recognize the genius behind it. While I was a little too young to appreciate the greatness of his 1967 directorial debut, “The Producers”, once the ’70s rolled around I was in comedy heaven thanks to “Blazing Saddles” and “Young Frankenstein.” Those two classics of big screen comedy came out the same year: 1974.
As a result, I spent much of that year as a high school sophomore and junior laughing my proverbial butt off in movie theaters (those things we used to frequent prior to the advent of streaming technology). The campfire farting scene in “Bs” was my generation’s comedic colossus.

Lily Tomlin, Gloria Allred, Marta Kauffman and top creatives called for entertainment companies to enact stronger health and safety protections for employees working in states that have banned or criminalized abortion at a reproductive health care-themed picket in front of Amazon Studios on Friday.
“Our message to the studios is this: It’s not acceptable to wait until someone dies to take this seriously. It is not acceptable to force people who are pregnant or could get pregnant to have to choose between their jobs and their lives,” said writer-producer Cindy Chupack (Fleishman Is in Trouble, Sex and the City) in a speech at the event in front of the white columns of Culver Studios. “And Amazon, maybe instead of figuring out how drones can safely fly our packages to our door, you could figure out how a medevac could safely fly our crewmembers to a hospital.”

“Trump was indicted yesterday — and again — as Paula likes to remind me,” said Jane Rosenthal as she kicked off her speech Friday afternoon at the ninth annual Chanel Through Her Lens luncheon. The remark drew a roomful of boisterous cheers at New York’s The Odeon restaurant. “So, this seems like a good day for women.”
Paula is Paula Weinstein, and this pair of powerful women and best friends are the venerated one-two punch of the Tribeca Film Festival. Rosenthal, whose producing work includes The Irishman and The Good House, is one of the festival’s co-founders, while Weinstein — the producer behind The Perfect Storm, Grace and Frankie and other hits — has been the executive vice president at Tribeca Enterprises since 2013. For anyone wondering if Rosenthal’s Trump comment went over well, consider that this annual festival luncheon, to celebrate the Chanel-sponsored Through Her Lens program, is rooted in a philosophy of empowering women,...
