“Sas: Red Notice,” the action thriller from director Laurence Malkin that became a hit for U.K. platform Sky Cinema in 2021, is getting a sequel.
Creative details are currently under wraps, but development funding for the sequel was provided by Sky Original Films and the film will be executive produced by Sky’s director of original film, Julia Stuart. Sky will co-finance and take all rights for the U.K. and Ireland. Production financing will come from Ashland Hill Media Finance, led by Joe Simpson, Simon Williams, and Jonathan Bross.
“The global success of the first film inspired me to amplify the Sas universe and deepen our understanding of covert operations,” said Malkin. “The use of psychopaths, both good and bad, was something we touched upon in the first film. This time we’ll get inside the minds of these unique operators and deliver even more visceral action sequences, elevating...

It’s October, so it’s time for two things: pumpkin spice on everything and the start of Christmas marketing. And just in time, the Norwegian holiday horror-comedy There’s Something in the Barn makes its world premiere at Fantastic Fest.
Bill inherits his uncle’s house in Norway after the man dies in a freak accident. We, of course, know it was no accident, and soon enough so will Bill, his wife and Bill’s kids Nora and Lucas (Townes Bunner) will too.
They relocate from California to Norway with plans to open a bed and breakfast, but complications ensue. Both in the obvious cultural differences and, more ominously, what Lucas discovers living in the barn.
It’s a nisse or barn elf. He’s a jolly little...

Sam Heughan was an outlier when it came to casting James Bond.
As he reveals in his new memoir, the “Outlander” star auditioned for the role ahead of Daniel Craig’s casting in 2006 film “Casino Royale.” Heughan told Entertainment Weekly that the process to play 007 was “quite an experience,” but ultimately, the timing wasn’t right.
“It was a stage in my life where I probably wasn’t ready for it,” Heughan said. “But I wonder what would have happened if I had got it.”
In upcoming memoir “Waypoints: My Scottish Journey,” available October 25, Heughan wrote that his audition was “cloaked in so much secrecy” that he “felt like a real-life agent,” mirroring the spy story itself.
“It was so hush-hush that nobody ever confirmed that I was being considered for the main role, but I knew,” Heughan penned, via EW. “Of course, it blew my mind to think I...

Houston, we have an ensemble. The plucky new comedy “Space Cadet,” from Stampede Ventures, has added more star power to a fleet led by the previously announced Emma Roberts.
While character details are under wraps, Gabrielle Union will join Roberts in the film about a Florida party girl who turns out to be the only hope for the NASA space program, after a fluke puts her in training with other candidates. They may have better resumes, but not her smarts, heart and moxie. Liz. W. Garcia is directing form her own script, which we pray will feel like “Legally Blonde” in space.
Tom Hopper also comes aboard with Colombian pop star Sebastián Yatra (Spain’s “The Voice Kids”), sketch veteran David Foley (“The Kids in the Hall”) and Desi Lydic (“The Daily Show”).

Redbox, whose core business remains renting DVDs from kiosks across the U.S., is upsizing its ambitions in the original movie biz as well as expanding its free, ad-supported streaming platforms in a deal with Lionsgate.
Under a multiyear distribution pact, Lionsgate will handle distribution of Redbox Entertainment titles across home entertainment windows and lead licensing efforts of the films to subscription-streaming services. Redbox says it expects to release 36 original movies per year. Originally, Redbox’s strategy was to distribute the films through its owned-and-operated channels but it’s now looking for wider distribution.
In addition, Redbox entered into a licensing for films and TV shows from Lionsgate’s 17,000-title library for Redbox‘s ad-supported AVOD and free ad-supported television (Fast) services.
Recently released Redbox Entertainment films include “Capone” starring Tom Hardy, “Shadow in the Cloud” starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Nick Robinson, and “Sas: Red Notice” starring Sam Heughan and Ruby Rose.

On a Labor Day weekend when “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” exploded to a record $90 million initial four- day gross, Disney also expanded Premium VOD platforms for its $100 million-plus box office “Jungle Cruise” ($29.99). As with other PVOD titles, it’s making a strong debut on multiple charts after an initial Disney+ home exclusive.
“Jungle Cruise” leads at Vudu, which favors higher-priced titles with its revenue tally. Among transactional charts, iTunes has it as #3, with GooglePlay placing it at #5. “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” (Lionsgate/$5.99) repeats at #1 at both iTunes and Google, and at #5 is the highest non-pvod films at Vudu. All of this reinforces that Disney can maximize returns from multiple outlets even as films still do well in theaters.
“Don’t Breathe 2” (Sony/$19.99), a surprise PVOD release after three weeks in theaters, is #2 at Vudu, #3 at iTunes, and #5 at GooglePlay. The film fell a modest 18 percent in...

This article contains spoilers for Sas: Rise of the Black Swan.
Sas: Rise of the Black Swan centers on a hijacking: terrorist leader Grace Lewis (Ruby Rose) and her Black Swans commandeer high-speed train Eurostream while it’s under the English Channel, and the Sas stud Tom Buckingham (Sam Heughan) attempts to thwart the hijacking while protecting his partner Sophie (Hannah John-Kamen), who he intends to marry.
Based on the novel Sas: Red Notice by former British soldier Andy Mcnab, the film is an unflinching political action thriller that ends with a massive explosion, a bloody knife fight to the death, and a massive government cover up. On the surface, this is pretty typical fare for an action-thriller grand finale. But there’s actually a lot going on beneath the surface that sets the stage for an even more explosive story down the line.
Let’s break down what really...

“Respect” (United Artists/$19.99) was released on the big screen on August 13 to high praise for Jennifer Hudson’s portrayal of Aretha Franklin but a disappointing gross of $17 million in its first two weeks of play in over 3,200 theaters. That meant the film got an unusually quick transition to home platforms on August 27. Early results show the film could return a higher amount to the distributor that way than via its theater play.

Here’s your first look at the official World Premiere Trailer of filmmaker Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming horror/sci-fi film, Demonic.
The film uses a patent-pending new method of using volumetric capture (a three-dimensional video technology that turns actors into geometric objects.). The amount of volumetric capture in Demonic is the most ever seen in a feature film.
Demonic – Volumetric Capture 2
When Carly Spenser (Carly Pope) learns that her estranged mother Angela (Nathalie Boltt) has fallen into a coma, she reluctantly agrees to take part in a cutting-edge therapy that will allow her to tap into Angela’s still-active brain and communicate with her. Observed by physician Michael (Michael J. Rogers) and neuroscientist Daniel (Terry Chen), she enters a harrowing simulation of Angela’s mindscape where she discovers the powerful supernatural force that
drove her mother to commit unspeakable acts of violence nearly two decades earlier. Afterward, haunted by terrifying visions,...

Batwoman will continue to chart Kate Kane's journey.
Batwoman Season 2 Episode 8 revealed that Kane survived the plane crash, but series showrunner Caroline Dries later revealed that Krypton's Wallis Day has landed the role, taking over from Ruby Rose.
“I’m sorry I didn’t congratulate @wallisday yesterday,” Rose said on Instagram.
“I knew about the casting beforehand and didn’t know when it aired so I forgot to.
“I’m seeing all the things I’m tagged in with people sad or wondering how I felt,” she added. “I feel great I have nothing but good vibes.”
Rose was the lead in Batwoman Season 1, but she exited the series, and Javicia Leslie was added as Ryan Wilder, a new Batwoman.
Questions about what happened to Kate Kane have been lingering ever since Rose's exit, but the character's long-awaited return will change things in Gotham City.

Ruby Rose played the titular role on The CW's Batwoman, but fans were thrown for a loop when the actress announced she was departing after a single season.
The series continued with a rejigged second season that featured the wonderful Javicia Leslie playing a new character.
But, if you watch Batwoman online, you know the fate of Kate Kane is still very much up in the air.
Fans have been clamoring for closure for Kate Kane, and now Rose is addressing a potential comeback.
"I mean, I'm obviously moving on to other roles as I think I've done about three films since. I would totally do it," Rose explained to ComicBookMovie.com while promoting her new movie, Sas: Red Notice.
"I don't think it would serve the story because I think building the new Batwoman is more important than going back too far into Kate Kane, but of course I would,...

"Get down there and kill her." Vertical has released a new trailer for Sas: Red Notice, an international action-thriller from Norwegian filmmaker Magnus Martens. A small army of well trained criminals have hijacked the Eurostar deep beneath the English Channel. Now with 400 hostages, the plan is to blow up the English Channel and in the process expose the British governments darkest secrets. But little do they know, they have one too many hostages, as Sas operator Tom Buckingham is on the train. With the woman he loves and an unborn baby also on board, Tom has one chance to stop Laszlo and his band of criminals. I admit this a cool setup, but it does look like direct-to-dvd action junk, for the most part. This stars Sam Heughan, Ruby Rose, Andy Serkis, Tom Hopper, Owain Yeoman, and Tom Wilkinson. Described as a "provocative and authentic portrayal of an emergency response...

‘Sas: Red Notice’ Trailer: Ruby Rose, Andy Serkis, Sam Heughan & More Star In New Terrorist Thriller
When you stop and think about it, riding on a high-speed railway system is pretty frightening. Much like flying, one thing goes wrong and you can be in a world of trouble. Add to that the fact that you’re in a tunnel under the English Channel and then your train gets hijacked by terrorists, and well, it’s a pretty shitty day, as seen in the new film, “Sas: Red Notice.”

Former Focus Features exec Jonathan Halperyn and Korda Studios’ Daniel Kresmery are in Berlin talking to partners about their recently minted Central and Eastern Europe-based content and production business Hero Squared.
Halperyn spent over a decade at Focus Features in finance and strategy on the international team. Kresmery established the production service arm of Korda Studios. Their new outfit is based in Budapest.
They have set out to provide production expertise and services for projects that originate from, or can shoot and use post- production services in, the Cee region. It has already been involved with sci-fi film “Archive,” which Independent is selling at the Efm, and Andy McNab adaptation “Sas: Red Notice,” which will star Sam Heughan is being sold in Berlin by Altitude.
Hero Squared said it is hoping to team with partners on projects at an early stage, and use its local smarts to help producers navigate the incentives available locally.
