A rare flagship indie producer left on the French market, Bruno Nahon’s Paris-based company Unité is preparing to conquer international audiences with “Rematch,” a period psychological thriller chronicling the historical battle between world chess champion Garry Kasparov, and Ibm’s supercomputer Deep Blue in 1997.
The sprawling show, directed by Yan England (“The Red Band Society”) and co-created with Nahon and André Gulluni (“Sam”), was commissioned by Arte in France and has already been sold by Federation Studios to major outlets around the world, including HBO Europe for Spain, Portugal, the Nordics, Iceland, Baltics, Central Europe, Greece and the Netherlands. Disney+ has bought first-window rights for the U.K. and will air the show in France after the Arte broadcast.
Nahon, who created Unité a decade ago, has been making bold shows and movies exploring social, religious and political aspects of societies, and has often captured the zeitgeist in the process.

Elizabeth Hurley knows her acting niche.
“I normally play manipulative, cunning, morally bankrupt people,” she tells me on this week’s “Just for Variety” podcast.
The actor, model and producer says it all began with 2000’s “Bedazzled” when she played the devil opposite Brendan Fraser, and continued with a stint on the original “Gossip Girl” and then her starring role as the queen of England on E!’s “The Royals.” And in Marvel’s “The Runaways” on Hulu, she played supervillain Morgan le Fay.
“We like to think it’s charming evil, as opposed to just stab you in the eyeball with a pencil evil,” Hurley says.
But she’s taken a turn to the lighter side of things with her new rom-com, “Christmas in the Caribbean.” She stars as a London theater critic whose fiancé ditches her at the altar, so she brings her two best gal pals on...

Exclusive: Ted Lasso writer-actor Keeley Hazell’s memoir Everyone’s Seen My Tits has landed at Grand Central Publishing, a division of Hachette, in a competitive situation.
Everyone’s Seen My Tits chronicles Keeley’s experiences and struggles being a young woman growing up in a working class, poor family on a council estate (the ‘projects’), to becoming an object of male desire as one of the UK’s most successful Page 3 and glamour models of all time. The book explores class, feminism, fame, abuse, sexual violence, and what it means to be a woman.
Hazell, a writer and actor on Apple’s Emmy-winning Ted Lasso, began her career as a model, working with magazines such as FHM, Loaded, Nuts and Zoo Weekly, before transitioning to writing and acting. She is the inspiration behind the Ted Lasso character Keeley Jones, played by Juno Temple, who, like Hazell, is a model.

The impact of the death of Queen Elizabeth II is being felt widely outside Britain. Many global broadcasters tore up their usual programming schedules within minutes of the news, in order to pay tribute to a beloved monarch’s legacy.
“Whenever something of this massive scale happens, whether it’s a death, a natural disaster, a declaration of war or an attack, news takes priority over all programming,” said Aline Pivot, head of news at TF1, France’s leading commercial TV channel.
Pivot said her news department began to get ready its dedicated coverage from Thursday morning when the BBC first reported that the Queen had been placed under medical surveillance. “We immediately sent correspondents to Balmoral [in the Scottish Highlands, where the Queen died],” Pivot continued.
TF1’s programming was entirely dedicated to the Queen’s death on Thursday evening, with a special magazine show hosted by a pair of star journalists from around 7:30 p.m.

“One Tree Hill” fans were completely shocked 16 years ago when the beloved Uncle Keith, played by Craig Sheffer, was shot and killed by his brother, Dan (Paul Johansson), on the WB show. Sheffer, however, was the one completely blindsided, he revealed during a new interview on the “Drama Queens” podcast.
“It was actually really, extremely disappointing because I had just made a movie and financed it myself for, like, a million dollars,” he shared with hosts Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz on the Monday, April 4, episode, noting that creator Mark Schwahn had a discussion with him after Season 2.
“Because they had let me go for the last six shows the season before, I was like, ‘Are you going to cut me?’ He came to dinner to tell me. He’s like, ‘No, no, no. As long as the show runs, you’re gonna be on it. You...

Milo Ventimiglia has potentially found his next starring vehicle.
The This Is Us actor is to star in and exec produce The Company You Keep, a con-artist drama that has landed a pilot order at ABC.
The project, which is based on Korean format My Fellow Citizens that ran for more than 30 episodes on KBS2, follows con man Charlie and undercover CIA officer Emma. A night of passion leads to love between the pair, who are unknowingly on a collision course professionally. While Charlie ramps up the “family business” so he can get out for good, Emma’s closing in on the vengeful criminal who holds Charlie’s family debts in-hand — forcing them to reckon with the lies they’ve told so they can save themselves and their families from disastrous consequences.
