How far will they go this time around?
On Wednesday, Disney released the first teaser for “Moana 2,” the studio’s anticipated sequel to the blockbuster hit “Moana.” The animated film – which was originally designed as a television series for Disney+ before being turned into a feature project and dated for this year – once again stars Auli’i Cravalho as the title character and Dwayne Johnson as the outlandish demigod Maui.
Here’s the logline, provided by Disney: Moana and Maui reunite three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.

The last few years have been tumultuous for the House of Mouse, as some of their biggest releases didn’t land well among critics and fans. This is especially notable in their animated division, which isn’t exactly thriving, with both Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios failing to live up to their potential with their last major releases.
However, with the sequel to one of the best Disney animated releases of 2010 set to release later this year, which will see Dwayne Johnson return, things might change for the better.

The first trailer for Moana 2 has just dropped (via Toonado.com) ahead of the sequel's release in theaters this November.
This sneak peek doesn't give too much away about the story, though we see that Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) will be heading on a new adventure which reunites her with the demigod Maui (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson).
It was only in February when Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed plans for a Moana sequel. While the news generated excitement among Disney Animation fans, it felt like the movie came out of nowhere.
It was in 2020 when we first learned of plans for a Moana sequel TV series on Disney+. The idea was for it to serve as a loose follow-up in the same way as the streamer's Big Hero 6, Zootopia, and Up sequels. So, what changed?

Walt Disney recently released the first trailer for Moana 2, set to be released on November 27, 2024. Starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Auliʻi Cravalho, the movie aims to build on the success of the original 2016 release, which grossed around $687 million at the box office. The trailer itself promises an entertaining watch, which sees Moana set sails into unchartered territory once again, in a bid to ‘sail new waters.’
However, despite a promising trailer, it seems as if the Dwayne Johnson movie has run into a snag already, as its release date clashes with another major project. It stars none other than Ariana Grande, and boasts of Michelle Yeoh, Cynthia Erivo, and Jeff Goldblum as well. Based on characters from the 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Wicked also releases on November 27, 2024.

Released back in 2016, Moana was a proper hit for Disney and became one of the company’s most beloved new movies, with Moana soon becoming a part of the Disney Princess brand. Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson did a great job in providing the voices for Moana and Maui, respectively, which is why the announcement of a sequel did not really surprise us; the film was a hit with children, and the adults liked it as well. It also represents Disney’s diversity policy well, so the announcement of a sequel wasn’t all that surprising. We reported earlier that a trailer was shown to people attending CinemaCon, and we can now confirm that the trailer is officially out, confirming the release date of the film, which is set for November 27, 2024.

A sequel to hit Disney musical Moana arrives in November. Take a look at the first Moana 2 trailer.
Though Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has a string successful films to his name, few have embedded themselves in the public consciousness like Disney musical Moana. The film was a critical and commercial success upon its release in 2016. In fact, the biggest surprise is that it has taken this long for a sequel to materialize.
The first film follows the titular girl as she teams up with demigod Maui to stop a curse he accidentally unleashed.
A live-action remake is also in the works. While Johnson will reprise his role, Auli’i Cravalho, who voiced the titular character, will not return for the live-action version. Original screenwriter Jared Bush will return to pen the script together with Dana Ledoux Miller. The film is scheduled to be released on the 10th July 2026.

Aloha, Moana. (The hello kind.)
Disney released a teaser trailer (below) for “Moana 2” on Wednesday. Our princess of Motunui is still out there voyaging, still drumming with her dead ancestors, still battling coconuts — it honestly just looks like additional “Moana” footage. That’s not automatically a bad thing. Also, it’s not yet the trailer trailer, so we’ll cut it a break — especially considering the feature film’s own origin story.
“Moana 2” was originally planned as a Disney+ series. Well, upgrade. Now a proper sequel, “Moana 2” welcomes back Auli’i Cravalho (as Moana), Dwayne Johnson as Maui, Nicole Scherzinger as Sina, and Temuera Morrison as Chief Tai.
Also an “upgrade” is Maui’s “boat snack” — the pig, Pua, has joined Heihei the chicken on Moana’s boat. Johnson gets the big joke of the teaser trailer: “Bacon and eggs!?! Why didn’t you bring the pig last time?...

Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho are back in action with the first trailer for Disney’s sequel movie Moana 2.
David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller directed the animated feature that is set to hit theaters Nov. 27. The film centers on Moana (Cravalho) heading out on an unexpected adventure in long-lost waters after receiving a call from her trailblazing ancestors. Johnson reprises his role as demigod Maui.
“This is a call from the ancestors to sail to new skies and reconnect our people across the entire ocean,” Moana says in the trailer as the adventure is teased.
The project was originally developed as a television series before being reworked as a theatrical sequel. Featuring new songs from Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Moana 2 counts Osnat Shurer as a producer, while Jennifer Lee executive produces.
Disney is also behind a live-action Moana remake from director Thomas Kail.

See the line where the sky meets the sea? In 2016, audiences heeded the call of "Moana," capping off a fantastic year for Disney Animation that also saw eventual Best Animated Feature Film Oscar winner "Zootopia" top over a billion dollars at the box office. Closing in on a decade later, however, the House That Mickey Built has fallen on harder times after suffering one of its costliest box office misfires ever with "Strange World" and releasing what was intended to be the crown jewel in its 100th-anniversary celebration, "Wish," to middling reviews and even worse financial returns. It's under these circumstances that Bob Iger, fresh off having un-retired from his position as Disney's CEO, has announced further adventures with both the furry members of the Zootopia Police Department (Zpd) and the studio's beloved Pacific Islander princess.

Walt Disney Pictures has announced that the first trailer for its upcoming animated sequel, Moana 2, will be released online tomorrow, and star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has taken to social media to share the first theatrical poster.
Johnson will reprise the role of shapeshifting Polynesian Demigod Maui, alongside Auli'i Cravalho, who will once again provide the voice of the title character.
The Moana sequel was originally envisioned as a Disney+ series, but studio execs were said to be so impressed with writer-director David G. Derrick Jr.'s work on the initial episodes that they decided to revamp his ideas for a single big-screen feature.
There is also a live-action remake of Moana in the works, which is currently set for a 2026 release. Johnson will return as Maui, but Cravalho will not be portraying her character.
Johnson recently revealed that an actress has been cast in the role, but has yet to be officially announced.

It’s been 8 years since the first Moana movie aired. Following in the footsteps of a long range of Disney flicks, the movie was a critical as well as commercial success. After all, everyone fell in love with the story of a girl who dared to dream, as the movie proved to be one of the best redemption arcs mankind has ever witnessed. The only ones who didn’t enjoy the cinematic masterpiece were the people with a certain (dis)inclination towards the likes of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. But even they will find it difficult to hate the latest official poster of Moana 2.

Many people have dreams of being an actor, sometimes in film and sometimes in television roles.
Some actors fall into the opportunity through lots of auditions, training, and from knowing the right people. But others get their start by becoming a famous name first.

While John Musker's name won't necessarily be instantly familiar to a lot of you, he's written and directed iconic Disney movies such as The Great Mouse Detective, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Treasure Planet, The Princess and the Frog, and Moana.
However, despite his lengthy working relationship with the House of Mouse, the filmmaker has now lashed out at the studio's recent offerings. Like many fans, Musker believes Disney needs to dial back the political messaging in its movies, something even Disney CEO Bob Iger has strongly hinted will take a backseat moving forward.
"I think they need to do a course correction a bit in terms of putting the message secondary, behind entertainment and compelling story and engaging characters," he told Spanish outlet El País (via Toonado.com). "The classic Disney films didn’t start out trying to have a message."

Here in the USA, we tend to cling to certain stereotypes about our Canadian neighbors. That they’re exceptionally polite. That they’re obsessed with ice hockey. That they say the word “eh” a lot. Some of that may even be true. But there’s one cliché aboot — um, about — the Great White North that turns out to be demonstrably false: The place is much more diverse than you might think.

In a recent interview with Spanish outlet El País, he stated that Disney needs to perform a course correction to refocus on entertainment and compelling story, rather than prioritizing political messages.I think they need to do a course correction a bit in terms of putting the message secondary, behind entertainment and compelling story and engaging characters. Animated filmmaker John Musker — who directed such Disney films as “The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin” and “Hercules” — called out the Walt Disney Company for prioritizing political messaging over story in its recent films.
“I think they need to do a course correction a bit in terms of putting the message secondary, behind entertainment and compelling story and engaging characters,” Musker told Spanish outlet El País at this year’s Animayo International Summit in Gran Canaria, Spain.
“The classic Disney films didn’t start out trying to have a message. They wanted you to get involved in the characters and the story and the world, and I think that’s still the heart of it,” Musker added. “You don’t have to exclude agendas, but you have to first create characters who you sympathize with and who are compelling.”

The FX-produced Hulu series had 608 million minutes of viewing time for the week of its finale, April 22-28. Its previous best was 513 million minutes for its premiere week, which featured the debut of two episodes.
Fallout claimed the overall No. 1 spot for the third straight week, the first such streak for a show on Amazon’s Prime Video. The series had 1.53 billion minutes of viewing, down by about 41 percent week to week. Its three-week total is now a little over 7 billion minutes.
Netflix’s water-cooler drama Baby Reindeer saw a 36 percent jump in viewing, climbing to 915 million minutes from 673 million a week earlier. Several original series also made...

Netflix’s Baby Reindeer entered the streaming top 10 in mid-April, and given the continued buzz around the series, it’s likely to stay around for a while.
The show drew 673 million minutes of viewing for the week of April 15-21, according to Nielsen’s latest streaming rankings. That was good for third place among original series and ninth among all titles.
Prime Video’s Fallout had a second straight huge week, if not quite as big as its first. It had 2.62 billion minutes of watch time, off a slight 10 percent from its opening week, which was the best single week for a Prime Video show since Nielsen began its streaming rankings almost four years ago. It’s also the first show that doesn’t stream on Netflix to have back-to-back weeks above 2 billion minutes of viewing.

It’s no secret that sequel films typically send people running to movie theater seats. They’re a safe bet for a studio like Walt Disney — if audiences loved an original film, they’re sure to enjoy a new adventure with the same charismatic characters and the addition of some new ones (preferably one that can be turned into profitable theme park plushies). For better or worse, Disney has boarded the sequel train and doesn’t seem to be hopping off anytime soon. For the next solid three years, the studio has multiple sequel projects slated to drop — ranging anywhere between the second and fifth film of a franchise. While it can be nice to revisit fan-favorite universes like ‘Avatar’ and ‘Toy Story,’ there’s also a major demand for Disney to return to their original storytelling roots. Walt Disney himself was incredibly opposed to sequels, saying he always had...

Walt Disney World has shared new details regarding Island Tower – the new 10-story resort tower currently under construction at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. According to Disney, the new tower – first announced in 2022 and projected to open in December 2024 – will overlook the Seven Seas Lagoon and will take guests on a storytelling journey that brings to life the spirit of Polynesia, the natural world, and of course, the magic of Disney.
Like the rest of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Island Tower will be within convenient walking distance to the Disney Monorail, for easy access to visit Magic Kingdom and Epcot.
The exterior of the tower will feature traditional Polynesian tattoo designs, including “a gorgeous Manta Ray that symbolizes freedom, protection and grace in the Polynesian culture. The Manta Ray is also revered as a guardian of the family, kind of like Gramma Tala in the Walt Disney Animation Studios film Moana.

Prime Video has touted the viewer response to Fallout as its second-biggest series ever worldwide over 16 days of release. In the United States (and over a shorter time period), it’s No. 1.
Fallout recorded 2.9 billion minutes of viewing time in the U.S. over its first five days, according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings for April 8-14. That’s far and away the best opening for a series on the Amazon-owned Prime Video, beating Reacher’s series premiere week in early 2022 (1.84 billion minutes) by more than a billion minutes.
The series also had more than double the second-place show on the list for the week: Bluey had 1.39 billion minutes of viewing in the week leading up to and including the release of its special episode “The Sign,” which premiered on April 14.

“We’re slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four, and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two— a maximum of three,” he continued.

After debuting early last weekend, Universal’s The Fall Guy expanded to 78 overseas markets during its sophomore session, adding $25.4M for a running total of $36.9M at the international box office. That’s in line with Bullet Train and above The Lost City at the same point in release. Globally, the David Leitch-directed action romance is at $65.4M.
This is a fun picture with positive scores and exits so there’s hope for some legs here and playability throughout upcoming holidays. Still, an expensive movie, it came in slightly below projections domestically.
Internationally, the UK was a No. 1 debut with a strong $4.4M from 1,400 screens. Odeon was the top-performing circuit, and Everyman registered a 9% share, 3.1 points higher than their average for the year. Performance across 51 IMAX screens made up 7.6% of the total. The weekend result is well above Bullet Train and The Lost City. Monday is a holiday.
Mexico opened to $2.5M at No.

Well, get ready to witness the magic of ‘Lion King’ in a whole new way as Mufasa: The Lion King’s first teaser trailer was recently dropped (April 29). And we got to learn that Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda is in charge of the soundtrack for the live-action animated prequel to The Lion King.

With the arrival of the first trailer for the "live-action" "Lion King" prequel "Mufasa: The Lion King" came news that the film's music is being spearheaded by Lin-Manuel Miranda. In the aftermath of the smash success of his stage musical "Hamilton" (which was eventually released as a movie on Disney+), Miranda seemed to be the guy in Hollywood, working on music for things like "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "Moana," "Vivo," and "Encanto," just to name a few, while also physically appearing on screen in "Mary Poppins Returns," "In the Heights," "His Dark Materials," and more. The dude was everywhere, and, as often happens when someone becomes overexposed, a backlash began. His past couple of years have been more subdued, and "Mufasa: The Lion King" marks his return to the familiar arms of The Walt Disney Company.

The first teaser trailer for Disney’s “The Lion King” prequel, “Mufasa: The Lion King,” ended with a surprise reveal. The upcoming photo-real live-action animated feature, directed by “Moonlight” Oscar winner Barry Jenkins, will feature new music from Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Emmy Award-, Grammy Award-, and Tony Award-winning artist who is one Oscar away from becoming a member of the Egot club.
“Elton John. Tim Rice. Hans Zimmer. Lebo M. Mark Mancina. Beyoncé, Labrinth, Ilya Salmanzadeh. Beau Black, Ford Riley, the incredible music team on ‘The Lion Guard,’ and so many musical contributors over the years. ‘The Lion King’ has an incredible musical legacy with music from some of the greatest songwriters around, and I’m humbled and proud to be a part of it,” Miranda said in a statement. “It’s been a joy working alongside Barry Jenkins to bring Mufasa’s story to life, and we can’t...

The road to movie stardom for Dwayne Johnson is one of the unlikeliest in recent memory. A third-generation professional wrestler known the world over as “The Rock,” Johnson nabbed a supporting role in 2001’s “The Mummy Returns” and made such an impression that he starred in a successful stand-alone film, “The Scorpion King,” the very next year.
As his film career progressed, it became evident that, despite his success in action films, Johnson had a distinct flair for comedy, which he began to show off in such films as “Be Cool” (2005), “Central Intelligence” (2016), “Moana” (2016) and in his biggest-grossing film, “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” (2017). One of the most recent was “Jungle Cruise” (2021) for Disney.
But it’s in high-concept action cinema that Johnson has found his greatest success, especially after hopping aboard the highly lucrative “Fast and Furious” franchise. He even got his own spin-off adventure, “Hobbs & Shaw” (2019), which...

Netflix’s 3 Body Problem delivered its second straight No. 1 showing among streaming titles, leading the rankings for the last week of March. The acquired series top 10 had several new entrants, thanks in part to a change in how Nielsen reports the numbers.
The ratings service says it made an “enhancement” to its Streaming Content Ratings, which is the basis for the weekly top 10 lists, that results in a number of programs being added to the Scr product. (They weren’t previously “due to business agreements which preceded the rankings, coupled with the associated technical aspects of measurement.”) The affected programs stream mostly on Hulu and Peacock after airing on linear networks.
The upshot is that former Fox series The Resident (1.48 billion minutes on Hulu and Netflix) and animated mainstays Family Guy (837 million minutes on Hulu) and American Dad (619 million on Hulu) all made their first appearance in the top...
