NBC’s “Chicago Fire” was red hot on Thursday night in the ratings. The Dick Wolf show, which airs in the middle of the “One Chicago” block at 9 p.m Et/Pt, won the night in overall ratings and in the advertiser-loved 18-49 demographic. The series took home a 0.91 in the demo, and more than 7.1 million viewers. In fact, all three of the Chicago shows outpaced shows on other networks making NBC No. 1 for Wednesday. “Chicago Med” at 8 p.m. Et/Pt earned a 0.85 in the demo and had 7.053 million viewers, while the 10 p.m. airing gritty “Chicago P.D.” saw 6.383 million viewers, but a 0.86 in the demo. “Survivor’s” two-hour Season 42 premiere, which saw two contestants exit, was the fourth most-watched show in viewers with 4.96 million viewers, but 0.84 in the demo, down from Season 41 last fall, which earned a 1.0 and 6 million viewers. Fox’s “The Masked Singer” Season 7 premiere slightly...

Genesis played their first concert of 2022 Monday night at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, Germany. It’s the start of a 14-show European run that the group says will be the last gigs they’ll ever play.
“When we do the final show next year, that will be it,” keyboardist Tony Banks told USA Today in September 2021. “So I’d say if you want to see Genesis, don’t put it off ‘til the next one. We’re not like the [Rolling) Stones].”

Last but never ever least, Fox — following The CW, CBS, ABC and NBC — has revealed its schedule for the Fall 2021 season, and lo and behold they’ve put together a traditional “Premiere Week.”
As previously reported, 9-1-1 is staying put on Mondays though offshoot Lone Star is being held for midseason. (Taking over Lone Star‘s cushy perch this fall will be the Scott Foley-fronted dance dramedy The Big Leap.)

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the two-hour Season 4, Episode 10 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired Dec. 2 on Fox.
It was a mega unmasking on Wednesday as Fox’s “The Masked Singer” revealed three celebrities in a special 2-hour semi-final edition: Singer/songwriter Tori Kelly (as the Seahorse), music icon Taylor Dayne (as Popcorn) and snowboarding Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim (as Jellyfish) were all eliminated.
Among the panelists, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Nicole Scherzinger and guest panelist Craig Robinson figured out that Popcorn was Dayne. Robin Thicke and Ken Jeong thought it was Tina Turner.
Jeong determined that Jellyfish was indeed Kim, which Robinson then copied. Thicke went with another Olympic gold medalist, Gabby Douglas. McCarthy Wahlberg also went with an Olympian: McKayla Maroney. Scherzinger thought it was Grimes.

Popcorn proved she had a voice like butter in her last appearance on “The Masked Singer” on November 11. Back then she made it into the final six competing on December 2 by winning her Smackdown against the Snow Owls. After Popcorn nailed her cover of “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” by Bryan Adams, the Snow Owls were revealed to be country singer Clint Black and his actress wife Lisa Hartman.
Popcorn was in peril on episode 7 when the four judges were not won over by her cover of “Domino” by Jessie J. That song was not suited to her powerhouse vocals. Popcorn had shone earlier in the competition with her rendition of the Pink chart-topper “What About Us” on the premiere episode and her cover of the Harry Styles ballad “Falling” on episode 3.
We’ve watched all of those performances by Popcorn again as well as her clues videos.

“Domino: Battle of the Bones,” a comedy from NBA player-turned-filmmaker Baron Davis, has scored domestic distribution rights from TriCoast Entertainment.
The uplifting comedy stars Snoop Dogg and David Arquette, and tells of an elderly Black man who teams with his awkward, white step-grandson to defeat his rival in a domino tournament.
Davis was an Emmy nominee for co-producing the documentary “Crips and Bloods: Made in America” in 2008. “Domino” marks his feature directorial debut. Joining Snoop and Arquette is Lou Beatty Jr., Tasie Lawrence (“The First Wives Club”), Megan Sousa and a slew of social media influencers including Anthony “Scruncho” McKinley, Tom “Tiny” Lister Jr. and Haha Davis.
“Growing up, dominos was a way of life and a way of culture. Not only is it just a game — it’s a recipe for human connection and human communication. If you’ve sat down with a stranger to play dominos, you’ve met a friend,...

Sardinia, a longtime a magnet for international productions spanning from James Bond classic “The Spy Who Loved Me” to George Clooney-directed TV series “Catch-22,” is ready for its close up again.
Following a hiatus due to the coronavirus crisis, the Italian island known for its emerald coast and ancient monuments is now hosting shoots for food and travel TV shows while scouting is under way for prospective big productions, including several from global streaming giants.
“We are doing lots of location scouting with Netflix, Amazon and Disney,” says Nevina Satta, head of the Sardinia Film Commission, who has long been a champion of eco-friendly best practices on set.
She has been busy training local executive producers in Covid-19 safety protocols alongside previous “green set” directives that the film commission had in place. Incidentally, during the pandemic, Sardinia had the lowest rates of coronavirus infection in Italy.

Coronavirus. It sounds like the title of a classic Bond movie, à la “GoldenEye,” “Moonraker” or “Octopussy.”
April 10 was supposed to see the release of Bond’s latest adventure, “No Time to Die.” Instead, action fans are stuck at home, an invisible villain is threatening world domination, and 007 has done the unthinkable: He’s chickened out and gone into hiding, leaving us to sort out this catastrophe on our own, only to circle back and “die another day” when the smoke clears.
Not cool, 007. Not cool.
Fortunately, no franchise has inspired more imitations, homages and parodies than Bond, leaving us with plenty of backup options available for home viewing. So if you’re thirsting for Bond and a well-shaken quarantini won’t quench it, here are 14 (the double of seven) recommendations to tide you over.
Layer Cake (2004)
Why not start with the movie that proved Daniel Craig could fill Sean Connery’s shoes?...

There are few directors that have had a roller-coaster career such as Richard Kelly. The filmmaker burst onto the scene with the cult-classic film “Donnie Darko,” which to this day is held in high esteem by many cinephiles. He then went on to write the script for Tony Scott’s “Domino,” which isn’t the best film, but Tony Scott is great, so that’s a win for Kelly.

While he didn’t partake in any publicity for his latest film, the clearly compromised but no less entertaining Domino, Brian De Palma has granted the now-rare interview on the occasion of his latest project: the entertaining, female-led revenge novel Are Snakes Necessary?, co-written with Susan Lehman. Far from an “old man yells at clouds” tell-all, his chat with the Associated Press is evidence of a filmmaker who is still eager to discuss his passion for cinema even if he’s disappointed with how the industry has transformed.
He discusses the painful shoot for Domino: “We finished it. But I was so disenchanted with the people who financed it … that I said, ‘Guys, here it is. Good luck.'” His career peak: “In my mid-50s doing Carlito’s Way and then Mission: Impossible. It doesn’t get much better than that. You have all the power and tools at your disposal.

Singer-songwriter Nicole Atkins unveiled a new love song, “Captain,” from her upcoming album, Italian Ice, out April 17th via Single Lock Records.
The track is a rich, country-tinged ballad that boasts backing vocals from Spoon’s Britt Daniel and finds Atkins offering a struggling partner a helping hand: “And when you’re found a wreck,” she sings, “I’ll pull you on deck/I can be your captain for once.”

Welcome to this week’s Monday Night Raw review, right here one Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and James Taylor says “You’ve Got A Friend”, but I think he’s full of $#!@. Folk rock, punk skunk, d–k-wad. On this episode of The Charlie Rose Show, women stare at me for an hour with terror and disgust, but not as much as I’m staring at Raw to give it a good review!

It’s been a while since we had an update on Scarface and Carrie director Brian De Palma’s Harvey Weinstein-themed project. Today the director gave one at the Venice Film Festival.
In an interview with Reuters, the veteran director said of the project, which is inspired by the Weinstein scandal, “Because of my years working in and out of Hollywood, you were very aware of the kind of abuse to women that was going on. And being a director who directs women all the time you are very sensitive to how they are treated in the movie that you are making. So I was aware of some of the things that were happening during the Harvey Weinstein era and it is an interesting story to tell, plus, I like the suspense drama and I created a script that is sort of based on some of the real cases...

It looks like there might be some film icon beef percolating on social media. Paul Schrader, the legendary screenwriter and director who got a major late-career boost last year with the release of “First Reformed,” took to Facebook this week to share some critical comments on fellow New Hollywood icon Brian De Palma.
In a since-deleted Facebook post (via The Playlist), Schrader wrote, “Don’t get me started on Brian De Palma. I re-watched ‘Redacted’ last night because thought that given total artistic freedom he could reach for the stars. And he did. But the stars were beyond his reach. The script is trite, it is weak. That’s because Brian is trite, Brian is artistically weak. Skate fast on thin ice. That’s his story. That’s his con.”

Eva Longoria, Patricia Arquette, Claire Forlani, Marta Milans and Julia Stiles are among stars expected on the island of Sardegna (or Sardinia for English speakers) for the second edition of the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival, the Italian summer shindig celebrating the ongoing crossover between high-end film and TV content and the power of women driving that crossover. Festival runs June 13-16.
“I’m trying to give it a modern stamp,” says former Taormina Film Festival general manager Tiziana Rocca, who last year launched this innovative fest in the capital city of Cagliari and nearby Forte Village resort as an offshoot of her annual Filming in Italy/Los Angeles event that promotes Italian cinema, locations and talent.
Alternating movies and series, the 2019 edition will open with the Italian launch of Brian De Palma’s high-voltage thriller “Domino,” starring “Game of Thrones” alums Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Carice Van Houten — both expected to...

For decades, Italy’s box office has suffered the summertime blues due to a scarcity of blockbusters from the Hollywood studios, which noted that Italian audiences were more interested in going to the beach than a movie theater. However, that is changing.
The Filming Italy Sardegna Festival, which runs June 13-16 and is Italy’s single start of summer event, is perfectly positioned to become a prime driver for this crucial seasonal push.
“I’ve been saying for years that summer festivals should promote summer releases,” says Tiziana Rocca, who launched the fest on the island of Sardinia in Italy last year.
Italy’s push for summer releases is the result of a joint effort between the studios and all sectors of Italy’s film industry, largely prompted by the government that recently got all sides to sit at the table and agree to remove this anomaly that was causing...

“Plottin and planning. Thinking I should start to create again,” Tatum, 39, wrote, making sure to give his girlfriend photo credit. He also included the hashtag “Leica Q,” a type of digital camera.

Brian De Palma has used the Italian film composer Pino Donaggio on and off for over 40 years, ever since their first (and still greatest) collaboration, “Carrie,” in 1976. Donaggio, with his lushly purple neo-Bernard Herrmann dissonant extravagance, is to De Palma what Angelo Badalamenti has been to David Lynch: a composer of rapturous dread-infused melodies that evoke a kind of meta-romantic Old Hollywood delirium. Yet to hear the unmistakable sounds of yet another lavishly orchestrated Donaggio swoonfest laid over the flat, static expository scenes of the choppy benumbed “international” police thriller “Domino” is to watch De Palma trying to create cinematic fire out of burnt-out match sticks.
There are legendary examples of directors claiming that their work was cut to ribbons by clueless producers: the 1954 George Cukor version of “A Star Is Born”, or Jonathan Demme’s “Swing Shift.” But what are we to make of a movie like “Domino,...

Brian De Palma’s “Domino” was a troubled production story for the ages: underfunded, shot by the seat of its pants, and cut to ribbons without the director’s approval or supervision. But that’s the least of the issues with the final product. There’s little indication this low-rent, high-minded terrorism shlock ever had any hope of being a better film than the version now making its way to VOD and a few sad movie screens. Too much of the material is intact to suggest that some kind of late-career masterpiece has been lost along the way, and too many of De Palma’s fingerprints are still visible to believe that additional money or context would have yielded a substantive thriller that’s more than the sum of its parts.
On the contrary, the most damning thing about “Domino” is that it reaffirms what all but the filmmaker’s...

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is dangling off a rooftop. To his left, he can see his best friend through a window, dying from a slit throat. To his right, he can see the murderer, also hanging for dear life. It’s a hell of a scene, a hell of an image, and yet — we feel nothing.
That’s “Domino,” a couple of interesting set pieces in search of a reason to exist, from director Brian De Palma. For most of his career, De Palma has been hailed as a modern master of suspense, or at least a dynamite visual stylist. And although many of his films — including “Carrie,” “Blow Out” and “Dressed to Kill” — are now classics, even misfires like “Snake Eyes” and “Passion” usually have some bravura cinematic showpieces that make them worth watching.

You do not have to squint very hard to see Brian De Palma in Domino. Not literally, mind you … he doesn’t usually take his Hitchcock fetish to constant-cameo lengths. But he’s there in the ominous zoom-in to a gun that a Copenhagen cop named Christian (Game of Thrones‘ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) has left on a chair in his apartment. He’s there in the sequence of Christian hanging perilously off a tall building’s breaking rain-gutter, chasing after the man who attacked his partner — a Vertigo reference writ large.

“I had a lot of problems in financing [the film]. I never experienced such a horrible movie set. A large part of our team has not even been paid yet by the Danish producers. The film is finished and ready to go out, but I have no idea what its future will hold, it is currently in the hands of the producers. This was my first experience in Denmark and most likely my last.” These are the words of director Brian De Palma, nearly a full year before this week’s release of “Domino.” There are few directors that cinephiles are aching to return to form more than Brian De Palma, but unfortunately, his string of misfires continues with this picture.

The process of bringing “Domino” to the theaters has been difficult and well-documented. While the film has seemingly sat on the shelf for a while, with filmmaker Brian De Palma sharing some harsh words about the working conditions, the upcoming terrorist thriller is finally arriving on the big screen later this month. And no matter what, more De Palma is always a good thing.

Eight years and eight seasons later, the “Game of Thrones” cast finally has some downtime to relax or move onto other projects. Laine Hardy could well win “American Idol” on Sunday according to our poll of viewers. He has narrowed the gap with frontrunner Alejandro Aranda to just seven points (48-41). Right after the Top 3 were revealed on the May 12 episode of “American Idol,” Alejandro enjoyed a 10-point advantage. In the intervening week, the third finalist, Madison VanDenburg, has slipped even further behind, with just 11% support.

Madison VanDenburg has sung nine songs so far on “American Idol” and viewers think that four of these were real winners. In our poll asking viewers to pick her best song so far on season 17, her Top 14 cover of the Alicia Keys hit “Fallin’” racked up 22% of the tally to date. Conversely, her version that night of Lady Gaga‘s “You and I” merited a mere 3$ of the total vote count.
Her Top 6 performance of the Celine Dion power ballad “I Surrender” was a hit with “Idol” fans, earning 17% in our poll. Also registering double digit support were Madison’s Top 40 song, “Who’s Lovin’ You” by The Miracles (it has 15% as of this writing), and her Top 10 cover of the Disney tune “How Far I’ll Go” from “Moana,” which is at 12%.

Laci Kaye Booth is almost certain to face elimination on “American Idol” this Sunday according to the results of our poll of viewers. She only made the final five on last Sunday’s episode when Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie decided to use their one judges save of the season to keep her in the competition. But she has earned only a measly 6% in our survey of “American Idol” fans heading into the Top 5 show on May 12.
The other contestant joining her in the bottom two is likely to be Madison VanDenburg who merited a mere 8% in our poll results. All five singers still in the competition will take to the stage on Sunday to perform a trio of tunes. Each will sing a song from the Elton John catalog, another picked out by mentor Bobby Bones and a third in honor of Mother’s Day.
